It's not only the president, even on Nairaland here. I agree we often want to express ourselves the way we feel but only one thing prevents you from expressing yourself the way you feel without insulting which is the lack of appropriate word, English or vocab or on the contrary, it only shows our upbringing.
thank u sir.

So you're 23 years old? I'm not surprised the Nigerian education system has failed you! In 10 years time I'm convinced you'll be singing a different tune.

@ Desola
JONASATAN, that is a new one.
By this time d OP would have given up.
hahahahaha

@drummaboy. on the contrary i am jst surprise wen we as Nigerians resulted to insult as a means of expressing our grievance.

sumtin hav gone wrong pastor Bakare put it dis way , they have forgotten that years of neglect, years of abandonment, years of fatherlessness, “motherlessness”, “directionlessness” in a nation will raise children who are lawless, and who don’t care whether they live or die. And they will be prepared to take anyone down to the grave with them including the society. Has the nigerian society degraded to this level? that we hav no moral compass of respect?

am in ma very early 20's nt more dan 23 i find it depressin to talk to pple who r believe r far more mature dan me in age n intelligence abt respect.

MODERATORS I think its about time this thread gets locked, it really silly and dumb, there is nothing to be gained here, enough as being said already by Beaf and co.
that beaf n co has been abusin past presidents (even if that is true) doesn't justify the fact that we shouldn't respect the president.stil dis day i am yet to see where two wrong made a right. luk at this thread on its merit nt dat pple has been insultin past president so it is okey for current n future generations to insult the president.
Politics › Re: Stop The Insult On Mr President by osifred(op): 2:27am On Sep 02, 2011
to say i am shocked by certain comments in regards to the thread is infact an understatement. there is a reason y certain sentences of this thread was bolded. Jonathan is the president of our grt nation make no mistake abt dat and an insult on him is an insult to the Nigerian nation.

if u think insulting the president or any other political office holder by derogatory name calling wil bring abt the much needed better Nigeria is living in the malady of ones own malady.

a friend of mine in a foreign land referred to the president as odechukwu coursy of nairaland am sure, which i consider as an attack on ma nation bt wht can i do wen ma very own pple r at the font-front of insultin the president who is symbolic to the Nigerian nation.

@dayokanu, i am therefore by means of this thread advocating that we respect other public office holder and thus must criticize with public decency and decorum.

truth of the matter is dose that insult the president has little or no knowledge of governance.

i hate it dat by the reason of this thread pple see me as a pro gej. respect is earned, true. respect is reciprocal, do nt expect respect from ur subordinate if u cant respect mr president cos u r criticizing him. enof said

Stupeed thread! Respect ko respect ni I should respect people who perpetually put my country in poverty due to their unquenching thirst for money, those who disregard my rights as a human being? Go and preach this sermon of respect to those who have been on empty stomach, to graduates who can't find work, to those who lost their relatives just because they can't afford hospital bills, to those are are being continuously brutalised by the Nigerian police and other security agencies etc respect ko respect ni. Hiss at the thread
so Mr man, u r telling us that if say ur fada refuse to provide u with certain amenities which u serve u wil resort to insulting him as a means of expressing ur grievance?
Politics › Stop The Insult On Mr President by osifred(op): 10:15pm On Aug 31, 2011
It is time we stop insulting Goodluck Jonathan and respect him for who he is the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria

Make no mistake about this, I am not a fan to the president in any way, I have never been and I doubt the possibility of ever been with the current state of affairs of the nation.

I don’t like his style of governance and infact his recognition of the rebel group in Libya has made me loose all respect I had for him as a person, but nevertheless he is still the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and for that reason as true Nigerians and a patriots we owe him a duty of respect and even if we must criticize him. It must be constructive and done with decorum for in insulting him we insult not his personality but the exalted seat of the presidency of the Federal Republic of Nigeria [s](that is if the seat is indeed exalted. I believe it is still exalted)[/s] which he currently occupies.

For this reason I would implore my follow forumites (nairalanders) who I believe has the interest of the nation at heart to entreat courtesy in referring and addressing the Commander in Chief of the arm forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria.

In doing this, we are not doing it for him but protecting the image of the country as well as the seat of the presidency. We must therefore put aside our differences be it political, tribal or religious and respect the president especially in public forum like this which attract the interest of the international community.

I hope to see threads and posts in the future devoid of derogatory words in reference to Mr. President.

a university doesn't only offer you a degree it also offers you other benefits such as exposure.
Bill gate and Mark zuckerberg may not have been university graduate yet they discovered themselves in the four walls of a university. Harvard University

if you think the importance of a university is jst the degree den ma buddies u r day dreaming cos the benefit of a university far transcend beyond jst a paper qualification.

like seun said nt havin a degree is a huge disadvantage, it is even far more than that cos so many dreams will nt be achieved jst for the sake of lack of a university degree. u cant neva be a professional e.g doctor, accountant, lawyer etc unless hav a degree
Education › Re: What Is The Relevance Of A University Degree To A Nigerian Youth by osifred(op): 9:18pm On Aug 18, 2011
@ benzion i am nt looking down at my friend on any other person simply becos he or she didn't attend a university bt certain truth must be made known.

i hav dis to tell those who keep propagating the gospel of university education is not important cos bill gate n co. were nt university degree holders, by the way FYI Bill went back to school nt sure if it was for a bachelor degree bt i have it on gud authority that he got some degrees now.

Forbe estimated 3000 people out of the total world population to be billionaires. please check for yourself how many of the billionaires in US dollars are university graduate and compare it to those who are not university graduate.

my point is no matter wht, the relevance of a university degree in this 21st cant neva been be over emphasized.

so u know, bill gate is not a university graduate but i wonder if u can get a good job in Microsoft corporation if you are not a university graduate

Delafruita:
Democracy is all about the will of the people.it is my opinion that a single term of 6 or 7years will be detrimental to our democracy.it will serve to make our politicians more desperate with the knowledge that they will serve just one prolonged term.furthermore it take away the power of the people to reject a leader who has failed from getting another term.
If GEJ says he wont contest, thats his personal decision and that doesnt stop the state governors from contesting even those who have been reelected for another term.so i can understand why they will decide to supprt his idea because it is beneficial to them.PDP is just a party of slow old cargoes who have nothing to offer except "fresh air".

gentleman i doubt if u r really familiar with the political structure of Nigeria cos wht we hav on ground is technically 8yrs tenure system. for once am 100% in support of this bill provided certain clauses such as the no immunity clause for serving governor or president, a workable system to impeach any non performing governor etc are put in place

Education › What Is The Relevance Of A University Degree To A Nigerian Youth by osifred(op): 3:36pm On Aug 11, 2011
Well, I would not bore you with unnecessary details. I am an undergraduate student and each time I try to convince a friend of mine about the importance of university education, he will with confidence and pride tell me that university education is not important as many people he know have made it in life without the university degree likewise many people with the university degree have not been successful

I try to explain to him that a university degree is atleast the basics that you will live a comfortable life but he strongly disagrees with me and instead insist that self actualization will rather determine how successful you will be, then again I try to explain to him that the university especially one with sound curriculum is the best place for self actualization of one’s potential which he equally disagree that will the nature of university curriculum one can hardly get to the point of self actualization.

My friend is well exposed no doubt and he is a reader and lover of inspiration books and also in the Nigeria film making industry who has great aspiration of becoming rich and impacting the world positively.

Now the question is, all things been equal are mine right to point out that university education is the basis of a good and comfortable life or is my friend right for insisting that university education doesn’t really has a direct correlation with success. (If the later is right that means he is of the view that we should therefore not waste about 4 to 7yrs of our life in the university which we would have use to do some other thing profitable)
Please intelligent answers only

i wonder wht some pple use as there yardstick to measure good government. perhaps the absence of good governance in the Nigerian polity has left us beclouded as to wht gud governance is.
Amaechi like Fashola is a publicist concentrating only mostly on white elephant project to get a cheap hype of media praise.
am a diasporan Nigerian bt am very abreast with the state of things in ma state.

in all honesty one cant fully condemn the leadership of Rotimi Amaechi as well as one cannot praise his leadership style.
i dont understand why Amaechi is making Rivers state a one city state wen we hav other towns in Rivers State.

the question is, is Rivers State a one city state?
