mendes911:Be like say you woke up from the wrong side of your bed. U don see person way get time to fight. Abeggi, face ur lane make me face my lane. |
mendes911:I agree, probably, it will sell for 20 kobo by year end. |
ojesymsym:I thought that it takes 3 extra days for stocks to register. Even if he bought today chances are he won't make it. Good strategy. |

Stan2330:What is involved in diligent research is a loaded question because there are several ways to appraise a stock, some more favored than others. I am not going to go in-depth, but here are a few that I know of: *You can find good information on this thread, but be aware of the "monkey hunters." *Fundamentals are important, and you need to go through the company's financial results to extract a few lines that can help you estimate fair value, as well as looking at the economy in general. *Technically, here you should be more interested in the chart and what it tells you. *Statistics are also helpful, and you can apply some basic statistics to the numbers to see if you can discover patterns. In essence, you should invest some time in learning how to value stocks before investing in them. |
Afromentalist:When you say 'beat the Nigerian market' I assume you're referring to beating benchmarks like NSE30, ASI, and a couple of others. I usually read about people claiming that their trading system performs better than the S&P 500 on Reddit. I think I will be paying closer attention to our indices and their performance from now on. There aren't many stocks on the NGX that trend in the mid to long term, as most of them just move sideways. To outperform these stocks, you need to identify their low and maximum points, queue at the low, reap at the peak, pray the circle continues, rinse and repeat. ![]() |
comatekeke:Stocks can yield good returns if proper research is done. For example, I bought GTCO shares last October at 17 naira per share, and currently, the share has gained 41% since then. I am due for a dividend on Thursday, which amounts to 14.8% of my investment, resulting in a total ROI of 56.8%. I am not saying that investing in stocks is easy or without risks, but with diligent research (here and beyond) and some luck, a regular 26% return is achievable. By the way, I am planning to sell my GTCO shares tomorrow since it no longer holds a priority on my stock screener. He go well. |
RabbiDoracle:Unlike what transpired with Ghanaian bonds, which had bonds swapped for a lower face value and lower annual coupon rate, the US bonds have only been repriced on the secondary market due to interest rate hike. Therefore, investors can remain unaffected if they hold onto the bonds until maturity or until interest rates return to normal. The question is whether banks can operate without dipping into their bond reserves. Also, we are assuming that the reserves are in the form of bonds rather than cash. |
Agbalowomeri:What stocks did you bag last year and percentage, make we newbies dey get moral. |

Frangel:Good morning. I am not clear yet. When PAT is zero and no PPE is purchased in a given year, I understand these happen: 1. From the revenue depreciation is deducted along other expenses including tax and interest. So, because depreciation is a non cash (it is not actually expended) item on the income statement there is actually a net income despite PAT being zero. 2. On the balance sheet, If depreciation is deducted from the cost of the asset on that given year then we have a PPE account that is reducing. If equity remains unchanged, I think there has to be some other account on the balance sheet that was increased to offset the reduction in PPE. Which of the accounts get credited with depreciation proceeds to maintain equity unchanged? |
Frangel:Thanks, I would also like to know where is the deducted depreciation (in d income sheet) accounted for in the balance sheet? I think it is added to cash account, what confuses me is that it seems to be deducted again in a counter account under PPE. In another example, where PAT is zero and no PPE was purchased equity suppose to grow from excess cash due to depreciation not being a cash expense? |
I have just finished watching Severance, and all I can say is that the director and show writers are extremely cunning. Picture this: someone gives you a mysterious box. You shake it and hear a promising sound. It feels slightly heavy, indicating that there might be something valuable inside. The longer you hold onto the box, the more excited you become. Finally, you manage to take a peek inside and catch a glimpse of the goodies. However, just as you are about to explore further, the person snatches the box away and tells you to wait until Christmas. ![]()

If a company made zero profit after tax and purchased property and equipment from its cash, would the equity remain same? Should d reduction in cash account cancel out the increase in property and equipment account? |
RabbiDoracle:Bigger than COVID? Wahala dey o, what should we do now? |
Agbalowomeri:Hahaha, your own na to dey catch cruise on to people matters. |
onegentleguy:You didn't get my joke, 67k eps most be audio for price to be heading to 35k. Whatever method he used to get at that figure need to be rechecked. Even if we project future earnings in view of subsidy removal and etc and discount to present value I doubt it will get that low. |
RabbiDoracle:The current annual EPS is 70 kobo, could it be audio earnings? ![]() |
Agbalowomeri:You are right sha... |
Agbalowomeri:About 2% only for round trip, if u check the chart well u see that the lows to highs are more than 10%. But then, even 8% for 3 months is not bad. Alternatively, an investor may choose to position themselves at the bottom of the channel or below, in anticipation of a potential upward movement of over 60% in the future... |
Sterlnbank has consistently traded within a narrow range of 1.44 to 1.62 naira since 2021, offering a skilled trader/gigoist a 10% return on a three-month holding time on d average. Although d latest financials values it at 2.7, I believe it is unlikely to reach that level unless it significantly increases its dividend. However, I anticipate that it will continue to trade within the same range, providing a straightforward 10% return for the bold trader.

Ginalex:No... , dividends paid out of profits exempted from income tax are not subject to withholding tax, and if you check WAPCO 2022 audited report on page 65 you will see that company income tax is 0. Check d finance act for further detail here: https://www.budgetoffice.gov.ng/index.php/resources/internal-resources/budget-documents/2022-budget/finance-act-2021 |
Zagee:No, volatility is more like how much the stock price varies over a period of time. You should not confuse it with range. In ur example, I can see that the stock ranged between 50ish and 164, which is a lot more than our -10% to 10%. Two stocks can have this same range, but if assuming one of them follows a straight line from 50 to 164 and the other does a lot of bouncing around before closing at 164 the later will be considered more volatile. We can measure volatility with standard deviation or ATR in TA. |
You get family sef, some people never even marry and they are past 40. |
currentprice:I will buy more at 17 before the final bus that will take it to 22 and above. |

Laso09:Not true, given that labor costs are significantly lower in Nigeria compared to Europe and that the revenue generated by the refinery will be subject to taxation by the Nigerian government, other products such as various types of plastics are likely to be more affordable. For instance, a small-sized plastic bucket is currently sold for 600 Nigerian Naira, and plastic chairs and tables are all many times what they used to go for. |
