follow "mysoftlanding" on instagram. Its operated by Nigerians in Toronto who can assist you with settling in.

iGary:
Thanks for all the informative posts.

I will be landing as a PR in the second week of September in Toronto but i'm a bit apprehensive about the settlement process. My previous visits to Toronto and Montreal in the past have been about visiting restaurants, tourists attractions and malls but i realise emigrating is some next level sturvs.

Can anyone please refer me to an active community (preferably nigerian) that can make the settlement easier i.e in terms of every day life, social and professional networking and so on. My intentions is to get temporary Airbnb accommodation till i get a more permanent living arrangement but i don't want to be holed up somewhere as if i'm on vacation when i can be out and about.

As other experts in the house have previously mentioned, if the amount(s) are quite significant then it's safe to just explain them. If they are not, then you could go ahead to explain what NEFT means. But i'm pretty sure they have seen a lot of transactions in statements of account with payment description as NEFT, hence they are interested in the amount(s) grin

[quote author=Julie2018 post=69274594]Thank you smiley

Yes it was a payment from a POS transaction powered by Unified Payment. smiley. The credits were remittances from the transactions.
But I also wanted to be sure about how to appropriately address the question " please explain what NEFT from Unified Payment/ POS transaction on your bank statement is". smiley

NEFT is a payment method that stands for National Electronic Funds Transfer. It means you received a payment from UNIFIED PAYMENT which is a payment transaction processing company in Nigeria, situated at Idowu taylor VI, lagos. you received a payment from them or ?

Please does any one have a good idea of how I can appropriately go about the explanation.

Okies, didnt know there will be any backlash for getting in touch with MNPNP.

In that case, he/she should choose one and kindly ignore the other.

That should work!

He should get in touch with MNPNP?

With Basic understanding as to how IT systems work, if you accept one and ignore(do not delete) the other one, you should be fine.

But i will advise if you can get in touch with MNPNP authorities to clarify so that you can have peace of mind.

This sounds more like the reason your RSA was sort of overlooked. POF over complete from bank statements na grin grin

see you in canny bro.

Guitarlife:

Yes I did a tabulation.
I suspect the case analyst probably did not bother to check my RSA since I met the POF requirement already with my bank account statement.

Maybe if my fund in the account statement was short he could probably have checked the RSA too.

Cos I used stanbic statement and Crusaders pension statement and the only thing mention in my POF recommendation was stanbic statement nor reference to crusaders pension statement at all.

Also my funds did not stay up to 6 months o, altho I added a staff statement of account showing regular inflows .

They will receive the email, if its not already received. In my own case, i have the feeling they have already received the email but they just need some greasing of their palms to actually respond to the email. i have been following up religiously with them today. Palms have been greased already, let me see how the week goes by. * This is Nigeria*

Exactly my point. But I just need to wait for them to see the mail because as it stands like this, they will only get copies of the certificate. Mail will not drop

standard procedure from WES. once the transcript is received from school, they send via email and by post, photocopies of the received document for school to verify as genuine. You just have to follow up with your contact to check properly. I'm also at same stage. same story, as my contact in school said they are yet to receive any email from WES. they are still checking while expecting the copies sent via post.

But from my knowledge of IT (little knowledge, i like to say), e-mail should be instantaneous.

Compu001:
Please if you know anything about Wes verification of Lautech Nursing kindly help me with this question.
Lautech sent my spouse transcript for verification purpose but Wes said that they have sent Photocopies to Lautech and her verification is now on hold. Please, I want to know is this is the normal routine as my contact is saying that they are yet to receive any mail from Wes. I wasn't expecting photocopies to be used, I was expecting mail to be sent.

lolzzzz, nice landing gist. Your English no bad at all. you try. cheers

Aka2003:
Silent reader landing gist

PPR gist has already been given on the express entry thread.
COPR came approximately 10 days after passport were sent to the VFS guys (middle February). TRV that came with the PPR was valid until April 4th so we had to plan for a quick landing.

We decided to land in Calgary in the middle of March 2018 ( cold dey that time oo grin). Flew Lufthansa so had to do a stop over in Frankfurt and then the flight to Calgary. Food on the flight was okay but know say them no serve iyan with efo oo. Na pasta them serve oo. Plenty of drinks served on request ( wine, juice etal dey but no rose oo. Maybe the guys in the first class get rose but me no know grin)
Anyways we arrived YYC by 15.55 Calgary time (no forget say time difference of 7hrs dey oo) so we had effectively been travelling for 24hrs.
Luckily the kids were relatively well behaved. The two smallest kids slept well on the flight and in the airport ( waiting times). The oldest dey form strong man and refused to sleep. By the time the jet lag hit the guy ehh person no need tell am to arrange himself lol

There was a relatively long line in immigration so we had to wait for sometime. If we had known one person would have gone to the landing desk and taken a number, but as JJC na we wan do all step by step. Immigration stamped us in and sent us to the area for landing PR's. We had to wait a couple of hours there as people many ( I spied about 2 naija families as well).
The lady that attended to us asked if we had any goods to follow but we said no. She was now telling us about Calgary and their Chinook. Me was just nodding my head like mumu. I no even ask her wetin be Chinook lol. She was kind enough to allow me do all the documentation while my wife stayed with the little ones sleeping. Just had to call my wife to sign her own COPR. I signed for the kids. The lady asked for our address in Calgary so that they could send the PR cards there..We had already rented a town house in Calgary so I just gave her that address. She did not ask anything about available funds.I asked the lady if we could get SIN at the airport and she said NO. She said we had to go to a Service Canada office to get that.

From the airport we took a maxi taxi to the house. Cost about 50CAD with tip included. The landlord was waiting for us in the house and handed over the keys. House was already furnished so we had a bed and everything necessary. We rented the house through rentfaster.ca. I had to pay the first and last months rent when we met up with the landlord. Anyways 30 minutes after arriving all man wan kpai of hungry grin. Nothing to cook. But we sha survived that night.

The next day a friend took me to a car rental place. I was able to rent a full size car for 985CAd for one month. That same day we went to the Service Canada office and sorted out SIN numbers. We also went to the RBC nearby the house and got our accounts. We went to Walmart close buy and bought stuff for chopping.
The following Monday my wife now went to attempt the driving knowledge test. She missed the pass mark by one point lol. Anyways, we went back the next day and she passed in flying colours (all she needed to take the exam was a proof of address in Calgary. We had a lease agreement so she used that). For me I had to go back ( work things) so I did not bother with changing my license just yet.

We also went to the registry to register for Alberta health insurance. Please check the details correctly as the registry guys can make mistakes in things like name and address. This will delay your health card. In our case they missed one digit on the address and other small mistakes.

We also had to get the little one enrolled in school. It was surprisingly straight forward to get this done and luckily there was a space for him to start kindergarten immediately. He started school a few days after we landed.

So I was in Calgary for approx. one month an then had to go back to continue my work. My wife got my PR card and sent it to me by courier. Surprisingly only my PR card came ( as if they knew I would need it ) . My wife and kids have not got theirs till now ( hope there is nothing to worry about). Called IRCC in June but it seems that the cards take a while ( don't ask me how the did mine in a short time oo cos I no know)

Signing out folks. Abeg no comment my spelling and grammar oo English no be my native language oo na learn I learn am ooo

Wow!!!! congrats and best wishes. The new land will favour you and yours

Randomsue:
Hello Everyone,

I would like to start this week by dropping my timeline and state that I'm grateful for God's mercies. My application was processed in less than 40 days...never hespered it!

CRS: 450
ITA: April 25
AOR: May 30
MEP: June 12
IP2: July 6
PPR: July 7 (no ghost update)

Passport submitted: July 9

(Was a little short on cash and met a lady who without any fuss, gave me the required cash in exchange for a funds transfer. If you are on this forum, i really appreciate you and you confirmed to me that we have good people in this country)

NOC: Thank you @newmum for helping me see that i had chosen the wrong NOC even though i was post-ITA so that i could change it to the closer match before submitting. Getting my reference letter wanted to be a real war but God intervened and somehow i got it through an unexpected twist of events.

Background: My application was pretty simple; married with children and more than 6 years experience in my primary NOC. Hubby's work experience was detailed in personal history.

IELTS: Aced on first try and honestly used it as a fleece to confirm if God wanted me to embark on this journey at all and also to confirm if all the grammar i think i speak was worth anything... grin grin grin . My speaking was HORRIBLE and i was sure i had failed but ended up with an 8, overall band was 8.5.

ECA: This was the second curve ball, it took 4 months to conclude due to NASU strike but i was just chilling as POF was kuku not complete.

POF: Didn't know how much was expected when i started this journey and honestly if i knew, I would have chickened out.
Got to know after acing IELTS and it was too late to turn back. POF was half complete as at ITA but the funds showed up barely a month after. Got two gift deeds from close family members for up to 50% of total POF and didn't notarize any based on info from this forum. Submitted all my account statements and even salary account for good measure even though the balance was meager, major funds were in money market funds and 25% of pensions contribution for both me and hubbs.

@Newmum i'm still very much rooting for your PPR story so i'm posting mine before the avalanche of congrats for yours comes this week.

@Everyone still trusting and waiting to complete one stage or the other, it will happen as long as you keep pressing forward.

I appreciate the wealth of information gathered from this forum and really believe we still have honest folk in this country.

In addition to this, you can also clear your browser cache and browse ingonito mode. That way cookies that can help to identify you are rendered useless, so that you get genuine search results every given time.

smslive2:
To get a cheaper flight, you will need to perform a search with +/- 5days... That would give you a weekly view of prices. Another option would be to try your search during off peak (midnight)

They better stop that rough play o! RSA na life saver for this journey o. grin grin

Guitarlife:
Hi guys my gcms notes came through and everything looks good.
However, I noticed when my pof was computed the CAD recorded was less than my actual declared CAD thank God it still met the pof requirement for a family of 1.

I did some computation and it seemed the difference was the RSA amount that I added, it seems CIC nor wan dey gree with RSA again o.
I became even more sure of that when someone in my group chat march aor got his gcms and it was stated that review for pof and he added his pension rsa too.

This may not be true tho but this is what I noticed. On the basis of the computation of my own funds then I can boldly say CIC did not include my RSA funds.

Good Morning everyone, Praying for all those expecting their PPR's, that this week will even see more of them than last week.

I'm asking again concerning My verification mail sent by WES to school on 26th June. As at Friday(7th July) , they checked and said could not see
any mail. I'm beginning to wonder if the mail is being transported by camel. The contact in the academic office says its normal, that the mail will drop when we don't expect it,latest this week.

I just want to ask if anyone has gone through such experience or i need to contact WES to send verification mail again?

Responses will be highly appreciated. Thanks!

Wow @ 8 times writing IELTS. Your perseverance and determination knows no bounds.

Best wishes as you relocate to your new country

Dappydappa:
So, I shared this long epistle on the 6th of April, 2018.

Hey mate, it's ok to cry but make sure you get up, dust ur ass and do the exam again. However, I suggest you do not attempt a re-evaluation. They will just take ur money and give same results. Lemme share my IELTS journey with you.

1st attempt.....5.5, 5.5, 7.0, 7.0
2nd attempt....6.0, 7.5, 7.5, 7.5
3rd attempt.....6.0, 5.5, 7.5, 7.0
4th attempt.....7.5, 7.5, 7.5, 7.0
5th attempt.....6.0, 6.5, 7.0, 7.5
6th attempt.....8.5, 6.5, 7.0, 7.5
7th attempt.....9, 7.0, 6.5, 8.0
8th attempt.....9, 8.5, 7.0, 7.0.

Note that where I live, the BC IELTS test is about 110k, re-evaluation is 63k and I spend a minimum of 150k for each of these attempts. IELTS humbled me but I eventually conquered.

For the listening practice, I wish I had stumbled into IELTS-mentor.com prior to my 6th attempt. You should definitely use this website and, attempt finishing the listening practice tests. There are about 14 of them. The answer section will show/tell you all that you had done wrongly in the previous exams. At the point where it says "you have sometime to look at your answers" during the listening test, kindly move on to next session if you have nothing to look at. That's actually the trick to have a headstart.
(Pls, don't apply for another exam unless you start to score 37 and above in the listening practice).

Also follow Jay on E2 language (YouTube) or his blog if you have money and don't mind paying for his teaching classes (I didn't). He is quite resourceful in reading, writing and speaking. Always write your answers (listening) in block (capital) letters.

Finally, do not stay down. It's okay to fail, weep, cry and feel devastated but, make sure you don't stay down. Get up, dust ur ass and always remember that it's only IELTS that is stopping you from getting your MAPPLE card.

***Shout outs to Gliterringstar and Amoese. I don't know how to thank you guys.

Then,
I got ITA on the 11th of April, 2018... CRS was 449
eAPR on 3rd May
ADR on 4th July
PPR on 6th July.

I don't know the VO

We all need to take note so as to avoid stories that touch.

Very good response. @BlackMimir the items listed below should be your main drivers in determining where to settle.

Now the part where you mentioned landing in ontario? you applied through PNP or ?

DereI:

The decision is entirely yours to make. I believe this research should have been done much earlier than now but in any case, just check out where you'd like to live, why youd like to live there, affordability of accommodation, job opportunities, advancement opportunities and then, make your decision.

Congrats on your successful landing. Best wishes as you settle in.

LOL @ entourage grin grin

So it means we have to get PR cards before getting proper phone line?

threadstone:
Landing gist'

Departure date was July 2 via EgyptAir. Flight was billed for 1:40pm, We left home with the entourage around past 10 (my house was close by). Got in, tipped a little for entourage to get in. plus those that wanted to disturb sha. Dropped bags at the weighing point, all bags were way over the 23kg limit. Left the place to print out goods to follow forms and before i returned, bags had been reduced to 49kg (3kg extra) and 47kg (1kg extra) with a little motivation wink- the rest will have to be cargoed down. Hand luggages were about 11kg each and i still had a Laptop backpack with a laptop, our credentials and a few books. Checked in online the previous day so everything was kind of smooth. Said a few goodbyes, then I and the mrs went in towards the boarding gate. Plane took off for cairo at 2:40pm, a mini plane and it wasn't even full. Inflight entertainment were two movies. Jumanji and Ferdinand (cartoon). Food was nice at least. We Landed at Cairo minutes past nine (local time) for a four hour lay over, bought wifi minitues (surprised it wasnt free), 2dollars for an hour each to update peeps at home (30 mins free additional browsing was allowed). Mailed Airbnb host if We could come and drop our luggages before check in time of 3pm and he replied that there wont be anyone at the apartment to let us in. Light dinner at burger king. We boarded and left around 2am in a much bigger aircraft for the tedious 12 hour flight to Toronto. Inflight entertainment was on demand (more movie options), two meals were served as well as snacks, juice and water at intervals. we were giving declaration cards to fill while close to YYZ.
Landed at Toronto Pearson at 8am July 3 then proceeded to clear, got SIN nos, then our luggages. Everything was done in less than hour so since we had time to kill, we just sat down and continued enjoying free wifi at the baggage collection point. One airport security approached us hours later that we aren't meant to sit there for long that we should clear with immigration and sit at the exit lounge. so we went in and the dude was asking about cash, food items(we said no dairy or meat foods were in the bags) and why we were just coming to clear since we landed hours ago. He asked how much we had on us and wanted to see the money so i removed from my inner jeans pocket (wore two jeans trousers) and dropped on his table, he just signed off the form without counting. For tbills letter, he said it wasnt necessary (money on the table was a little below the 15k cad pof requirement). Goods to follow form was full and a bit overvalued and he signed and told me to take to cashier. Cashier sends for him and they had a loong discussion and he came back saying I will have to reduce the values of items i wrote and perishable foods are not part of goods to follow as they are non taxable bla bla bla. We sha ended up reducing the total to $8,600 from $16k and we were off. We sat down at the lounge for another hour and then ordered an Uber from the airport to destination in Brampton(20 mins away). Driver was a Kenyan immigrant- very lively and helpful. Uber cost $38 and it asked if We wanted to add tips which I declined. On a second thought, I remembered how helpful the guy was in moving our luggage both at airport and at airbnb location so I added something extra.
Host's wife gave us the key to the apartment and we settled in. There was free wifi and cable TV included plus some goodies in the fridge and cabinet. Watched England kick Columbia out then jetlag set in. Slept and woke up by 1 just to sleep again a few hours later.

DAY 2

Took an Uber to a RBC branch nearby and was on the verge of opening an akant and getting free ipad (with some not so hard conditions) but we told the customer service lady that we were moving to Winnipeg soon so she said we should wait till we get there to open the account. We opened a savings and US dollar account to save the cash we had on us and proceeded to the electronic store next door to buy adapters for our phone/laptop chargers as the regular plugs in Nigeria wont go into the wall sockets. Lunch at a restaurant next door, some minor grocery shopping, enjoying free wifi everywhere we go.
Tried to get a Fido line later on but part of the requirements was a PR Card or a cheqing account which wasnt available and I wasn't ready to pay $70 for 2gb prepaid data. Got back home 8:15pm and the sun was still shinning. Ramadan 2019 is in God's hand lipsrsealed.

Its not a problem i guess, cos a good number of private schools aint on the list. If your school is a reputable one, then that should not be an issue

Pettyperty:
Good morning everyone. Pls I have a situation..
My university name is not on the list of WES for ECA.
At first I thought maybe I did not check well. I typed the name and searched through the list. It's not there.

Pls what do I do?
