Good morning fam, i want to commend everyone in this group for all the helpful informations. I have 3 questions
1. Can I include my junior sister in the list of accompanying family members?

2. Are there Abusites in this forum that have done their course evaluation who can point me in the right direction for transcripts and Wes?

3. Are their wieves/mothers going through this process/ journey with kids with non accompany spouse? "So we can tag along and support one another" or any mother already at the maple land who can give us hint on how to make it work once we cross to the dream land.

For canadian immigration, which is the reason why we are all gathered here, it doesn't matter

You can have a degree in Yoruba language and decide to have experience as banker
Yemsot:
Another question guys,

Does my work experience have to match with the degree obtained?
For example, someone who graduated with a degree in microbiology and working as a cashier in a bank.

I am not sure if this is helpful or relates to what we discuss here, but I hope to show guys a side to Living in Canada they may not expect.

Yesterday, while shopping at Walmart, I decided to grab burger and coke at the McDonald's corner of it. Not long had I sat down, did a lady sitting adjacent to me say hello to me. It was very unusual cos here people rarely talk to strangers. I replied hello with the fake oyibo smile everybody here wears. Next thing she asked you are from Nigeria right? I just thought to myself, well we are the most populous black nation so its an easy guess, I forgot there are way more francophone africans than Nigerians in Montreal. Before I could reply, she quizzed "You dont look Igbo, yoruba or Bini and you dont have Iyanya's people face either, what part of Nigeria are you from?" At this point I was startled. I told her she is right, told her my hometown. She admitted she has never heard of the place. She went on to say I must have landed recently, I was like this one no dey use jazz so? Before I could ask how she knew, she said my paying for another cup of coke gave me away. I didnt know when you buy a cup of coke at McDonald's, you can simply go take more coke for free with the same cup, I have been paying for extra cup of coke like everyday since I landed o, money wey i no get o embarassed ...

She and her friend engaged me in a lengthy fun chat, she was even speaking small pidgin at some point of the convo. The more we talked, the more it dawned on me that she was only Caucasian in skin, at heart na almost Nigerian. I asked how she knew so much about Nigeria, "I have been dating Nigerian men for years" said she. Her friend chipped in "they keep breaking her heart but she cant help it cos they are always so gorgeous". Told me of how they selfishly keep demanding money from her and make her get in debt just so they could send money home.

According to her, she has been with men from other west african countries, but those were just sex, its only nigerian men she dated/married, at this point my ear stand like local dog own. She made some remarks about a particular nigerian ethnic group and their habbit of having pussies everywhere (thats exactly how she put it o). She sounded like she has been at both the sweet and bitter side of that habbit of theirs.
At this junction, I remembered I have been told some white ladies have a fetish for black guys. Before I remember my papa name, she don ask wetin I dey do tomoro, say she go come show me around town tomoro. I com just rizin am say based on one thing, one thing, I dey relocate from Montreal tomoro. Her countenance changed, she just sad one kain like pikin wey go make pet out of christmas chicken when watch night don reach.

Her friend helped her out, told me she has taken a liken to me and asked if I was married or had a girl in Nigeria. I was perplexed, shuu na just barely 30mins we don know o! time wey no go reach naija babe decide which of her wrong number she go give you. I was like na now I understand how G boys take dey do am! No be juju, no be smart up anything grin... Anyways, we took the metro together and chatted even more, getting off the subway, we realised our buses were different but sister say she go like join me in mine to see me off before she goes home. Ibaboo! even if na night dem born me, no mean say na last night na, this format no go work. I sha just use style persuade am say make I see am off to her bus instead. As I waved her goodbye, she kept asking if I was sure I didnt want to join her. Well I sure pass roll on, so I just smiled calmly and said goodnight. Na so my fuse take survive the direct voltage o. Aside the obvious card she was trying to throw, I enjoyed the time with her, i think she is a sweet soul. She says she has helped a couple of nigerian refugees in the past, according to her they easily find work as caregivers and are known to be so polite always saying "ma and sir" to the old folks they look after.

So, guys here is one of the culture shock you may experience. Firstly it takes nothing here for some ladies to clear you their mind. As much as it is possible that she could have been genuinely attracted to me, I think it falls into the category of white ladies who just fancy black guys. I hear some of them feel y'all are horses in bed and know how to make a woman feel loved lol. So if you dont mind the risk of being a sexual experiment; your race rather than your personality being your selling point, then you go enjoy tire be that.

Baba pick race here. lol grin grin grin

Ah na so your montreal adventure for just take a different dimension

Sincerely i have given advice that they wait till end of November, even if they get say November 28th draw, which is very ok.

But with the 3 yrs experience, score is 440. Anxiety things since its just the base score these days.

Note: candidate has been in pool since January of 2018 grin grin

joo2018:
A bit of a grey area. Like @raphrulz noted, so have case officers have calculated it using months.

If his CRS score is a bit high, why doesn't he wait one month to avoid stories that touch?

Thanks for the kind feedback Ralph. Most appreciated.

So if ITA falls on this candidate by Nov 7th, na to reject? grin grin

raphrulz:
Noo ooooo!! 3 years is 3 years...

Pls dont take the risk. However, some people have been lucky, they counted the months after ITA before final submission of the E-Apr.

But it still remains a risk.

Good Day house,

As per the work experience for the Canadian immigration, is it the months that is counted or days?

take this example, A candidate has 2 years 11 months work experience as at today October 31st 2018.

Will 3 years experience count for this same candidate come November 1st or November 30th 2018?

As per now, the province of Alberta does not run a pnp styled program where outsiders can be nominated.

To the best of my understanding, their PNP program is basically for those who are inland or with close ties to the province (schooling, working, etc). something around that line sha.

Do not despair, do all what you have to do.

These immigration laws changes very fast and you never know it will just favour you. keep fingers crossed

With this age on your side, if you do well in IELTS you could hit 440 and above.

For eg; LRSW 8,8,8,7.5

Just try to play around with the CRS tool and see the possibilities a good IELTS score can do for you.

Nice 1 and best wishes as you decide on where to finally settle in. cheers!!!
einsteino:

for a family, Montreal has alot going for it. a 2 bedroom apartment here can be as low as 750 cad, 850cad to 1000cad in downtown montreal! in Toronto that can easily cost you 2200cad! cars are also much cheaper here and the city is lovely to raise a family. Anyways let me tell you a story that would help put things in perspective.

I have been doing some shopping, mehn converting from naira to CAD is the most sadistic mathematical operation. Anyways, to make good savings on my shopping, I have been hopping from one thrift store to another, trying to get the best quality at the least price. So yesterday I found another thrift store on google map to try out. It was about 17 stops away by train and another 4 stops away by bus. I took the subway to the other side of town, got off and made to catch a bus from the metro station to the Thrift store. On getting to where google map said I was to board a bus to the shop, I found a hand written notice placed over the Bus-stop sign but since it was in french, I was like make una carry una wahala go. So I just stood there waiting for the bus, it was 0 degrees and every second out in that cold felt like eternity. A gorgeous lady walked up to me and spoke some french to me. Walahi I didnt hear a word! listening to french is much harder than reading it, at least while reading I can make out the words even if I don't understand them, spoken french esp in the Quebecois accent sounds like someone is rapping in high Valyrian.

I just replied "Sorry... I dont understand french", she looks at me in pitiful shock and asks "Anglais?", I replied "Oui". In my little head, now she would speak something I can comprehend, some good old English...Instead she resorted to speaking the french very slowly grin I didnt get much but now I understood she was trying to tell me something important about the bus I was waiting for. At this point, I took out my phone and copied the words on the notice to my Google translate app, my fingers turned ice cold in those few seconds I spent typing... only for Google translate to pour out some incomprehensible English translation as the reward for my finger's effort. aaaah! I was like which kind sufferhead be this na. na FSW i be no be PNP, which kind over sabi carry me come Montreal sef? I no even know wetin dey sup with my bus or this notice, See fine babe wey i for even shine teeth give if we dey speak the same language sef... Anyways, since two of us no fit communicate and this bus no gree show, mek I kuku go take subway go back house house before my battery die. I looked at the lady and I muttered "Merci et Bonne nuit", as I made to walk away, she cautioned me to wait for her to try one more time. she heaved a sigh of frustration, picked her phone and called someone hoping he could help translate, the person laughs hard and said some inaudible thing in french... she drops the call and looks me in the eye like "this coconut head how wouldn't you even know a little french, are you trying to die in this cold?"

Then she reaches into her bag, gets some paper and a pen and starts using her hand to make signs like someone talking to a deaf and dumb wey no go school.. then finally says "you.. booos number? booos number?"... I tell her my bus number, she writes it down, then she says "me booos number 97.." points at me and then at herself, circles both our bus number and then points at the notice and says "booos stasion laurent"... Omg! I finally understood i was waiting in futility, the bus I was waiting for has been rerouted from Metro Mount Royal to Station Laurent! turns out the road repair works necessitated it be rerouted for some hours(please note that I said hours, not days o.. I returned 45minutes later to see the road open and traffic already plying the freshly asphalted road! Naija get centuries to come up sha). Anyways I thanked her and we tagged along, a young boy walks by and she asked him for direction to St laurent, the guy explained in french, she turns around trying to tell me what he said but remembers I dont quite understand french.. she tells the boy that I only understand english, he switches from fluent french to fluent english almost unconconciously.. I mean he speaks the two languages with native proficiency, his french has the Quebecois accent, his English the usual Oyibo fonerisation and intonation without the overlapping french accent.

Here bilingualism is like a norm but I have realized that it is often teenagers that are fluently bilingual, folks in late twenties speak English and french but for most of them, their proficiency in one of the languages rarely meets up to native proficiency; people in their 50s upwards are usually monolingual, they speak either English or French and just know a few words in the other. If you come to Montreal, your kids would likely end up bilingual like most kids their age here. Since it would put them in a situation where everyday they would meet someone who only speaks one of the two languages, they would have to speak the two languages everyday but french would dominate. That way they get french and still keep the most economically important language in the world, English! but how about you? you would be just like me, risking the possibility of freezing in the cold cos you cant read a damn notice in french even when you life depends on it. lol.

I like the vibe of doing it for your kids, but you do know your job and happiness would affect your kids too. So if you get frustrated with the language thing, it may wear off on your kid's happiness too. You can pretty much get customer care jobs, factory jobs etc with your English, with this you can pay your bills and save a bit. if you land in Montreal, just go to Randstaad at 333 Cote Vertu, they would interview you immediately and fix you up soon as they get you a job that matches your strength and interest. but if you are a career person, someone whose happiness hinges on finding fulfillment in your job, say you hope to work as an Engineer, a lawyer etc. then you should know without french, Montreal would hardly give you the opportunity you seek.

Can't you learn french and move up the career ladder? Yes you can learn french, actually the Govt of Quebec may pay you if you register to learn french full-time, and if you join a part time french class, the fee would be waived for you. But please note, work place french is not moi moi, it means you have to get at least intermediate proficiency in french. if you attend part time french classes for say 3months, you should be able to know enough french to enable you guess what folks are saying. 1year of part time french class and you would be able to pretty much form Quebecois but still may not know enough french to work as an Engineer in Quebec! You know the way Aboki knows English but keep messing up the pronoun I, "I dey crase?" that's the struggle here. Learning the meaning of words is easy, learning to conjugate verbs and pronounce words correctly is not too easy but doable but learning lexis of structure and grammatical rules at this age... oboy that's punishment! especially those stupid rules that have exceptions with no other explanation than that's the way it is. So you need to know that you may put in all your effort into french and at the end of the day, you are only able to speak it the way an Aboki speaks English. that's enough to get you moving around and working survival jobs, but not at a professional job that cares for top notch communication skills in french. Given, some people have an attitude for language and may get native proficiency in a year, but only you can say if you are one of those people or don't mind the challenge and relegating career ambitions for a while.

U see enh! in this part of the world, its very common for people to engage in side gigs which even pays more than their regular jobs.

As long as you can legitimately prove that the funds are yours, i dont see why you cant enter the pool immediately IELTS and ECA are ready.

After all, some peeps didn't even include statement of account in their application, just FXD and or T-bills as the case may be and they chilling in Toronto as at time of responding to your question. others can weigh in tho
ijoseda:
Hey Guys,

Thanks for the good work on this thread!

I started my PR runs in September 2018. I am expecting IELTS result and ECA assessment by the end of this month. Based on the CRS simulation that I did, I should have a score of between 440-448 (I don old small). I intend to get into the pool by middle to end of November (waiting for my spouse's ECA - MSc was in Nigeria, so a little delayed)

I need a bit of clarification on the POF. Here is my peculiar situation.

I work as an independent consultant with erratic income, however, 80% of my income is from two sources and I intend to include those sources as part of my employment history. In the past 3 months, I've not earned from those two sources, however, I expect some inflow from both sources in November. The expected sum is large enough to cover my POF. My dilemma is this; If I print out my statement of account by end of December(OCT-DEC), the fund from those two sources wouldn't have stayed in my account for more than 6weeks, but it'll be clear that it is my personal fund since I have the contract papers to back it up. Will this be a problem?

The other option would be for me to keep the fund in the account from November till the end of January and then print out the 3 months statement. The implication of this is that I can't enter the pool until late December or early January.

My good people, I need your advice! (my preference would be to get into the pool ASAP)

How acceptable are MicroMasters Programs such as these for the purpose of visa applications?

Or will only a Full Masters do?

In which case, I can pick a course locally to do (cost considerations on my mind) then complement with the online stuff to supplement the knowledge gaps from the lack of updated local teaching methods/materials?

got one of the greatest news this morning.

Spouse IELTS result on 5th attempt

L - 8.0
R - 9.0
W - 7.5
S - 8.0

First attempt was with BC, 2nd attempt with IDP, 3rd with BC, 4th BC and 5th with IDP

Really appreciate all the techniques and skills gotten from folks on this beautiful thread.

From this episodes of IELTS, i can categorically say that for

reading= just go with all what Jay tells u

speaking = Follow Jay's method, but customize to suit the questions asked (cos PPF may not go in all situations)

Listening= Just deep dive with LIz
, you may top up with other good materials too

Writing = Again here, LIZ wins

Above all, your own life experience(s) and with God on your side, you are good to go.

Now unto the next hurdle to see how best to work with a reference letter given to spouse that falls under category c (institution didn't word reference how we wanted it, which was really the JD in reality and the work handled).

We go meet for canny las las @ the Nigerian Christmas party usually organized by the Nigerian embassy for the Nigerian community grin grin

Fadia:
Okay. Thanks.

Do you have any idea what they would need as "proof"? I've tried reading up on their site but it doesn't say anything about that. I just want to know if they'd want stuff like joint bill payments and all that to show that we've lived together.

Plus I hope it won't count as misrepresentation that I am now including him after I've submitted my application? We just didn't have plans of moving together before cause he has some stuff to finish up here but I am now considering the idea.

So sorry about your experience, i know that area very well and i have devised a means of avoiding mile 2.

I will assume you are heading to festac

Option 1: Go through Ojuelegba or through stadium, then link through the cele bridge--> okota road--->Ago palace way--->durbar---> first gate.

Option 2: Go through 3rd mainland---> Oshodi---> branch in through cele, then same route as seen on option 1.

These are longer routes, but highly devoid of all those robbers.

Its well, we go enter canny las las, but please be safe. cheers!!!!

CanadianNaija:
I can’t wait to leave this shit hole.

On my way back from work, at that annoying mile 2 traffic, because of the trailer parked there headed for festac, some guys tried to rob my colleague’s car.

He had to slam into the trailer in front of us to draw attention(thank God for insurance), and then come down to challenge them, then they ran. But not before taking the phone of one of our colleagues sitting at the back.

Apparently when they surrounded the car and were asking us to wind down and bring our phones, she did out of fear.

I hate that I don’t live at Ikoyi where something like being robbed in traffic will probably be less likely to happen.

I hate that I felt so helpless, and probably would have lost my phone too if I didn’t hold out longer, or if my colleague didn’t come down from his car to challenge them.

I really hate that one can’t just head home without fear of incidence.

Why did I have to be born into this shithole, the poor girl has just been crying.
