Greenman2020: Visa interview transcript Profile School: MSU Program: PhD Sociology Scholarship: Full funding + Teaching Assistantship Deficit: 3k GRE: YES TOEFL: Nil Bsc in Sociology (Federal University) Highest Educational level: Msc, Criminology (Federal University) Undergraduate Gpa: 3.44/4.0 Msc Gpa: 3.2/4.0
No of F1 Attempts at the US embassy (3), denied in 2019 for Masters in Criminology with zero funding at West Texas A&M University. Denied again last year November with full funding in the same school for which my visa was approved today. (I posted my last denial transcript here. You can click on my profile to read it, if you like - of course. Status: APPROVED Abuja Embassy July 12th 2021
My interview lasted about 3 minutes. Here we go:
Massive palls of grey and black clouds hovered above the beautiful city of Abuja, a clear indication that Rain was warming up in the sidelines of the heavens, as I hopped into the waiting Bolt taxi which I had ordered a while ago. It was my first time in Abuja, I should say. As we drove from my lodge to the embassy, I admired the smoothness of the broad roads, how it gleamed in the distance, how it reminds me of the head of Papa Ajasco of Wale Adenuga production, and the many towering, foggy and greeny hills which rose like the back of an elephant from different corners of the city.
I arrived the premises of the embassy around 6.40am but we were not allowed in until it was about past seven. As expected, there was an heavy presence of people I would, I beg your pardon, call "embassy rats", those people who try to sell you water while you are in the midst of an ocean. Those who would say, Bros you go need passport o. Bros make we staple your form. Bros this. Bros that. But I ignored them all, except for a woman, I would later find her name to be Rose, who volunteered to take custody of my phone at zero cost. I rewarded her handsomely later, anyways.
Once the order came that we could proceed into the interview venue, I joined other applicants, mostly students, into the interview venue. We waited for a long time before a Nigerian man came into the waiting lobby to begin what seemed to me as a confirmation of appointments and documents. To save the reader's time, I went through other protocols before my turn to meet the VO, to meet with destiny eventually came. The place was window 8 and sitted there was a pretty, young, and stern-looking white lady who was just dishing out rejections like Akara.
VO: Good morning
Me: Good morning ma
VO: Pass me your i-20 and passport then place your hands on the scanner for the biometric capture.
Me: Okay ma. (I passed the documents to her and placed my hands on the scanner)
VO: I see that you're going for your doctorate in Sociology at MSU
ME: That's correct.
VO: Tell me about the research you plan to conduct
Me: My research is in the area of cybercrime and access to economic opportunities. Precisely, under the supervision of Prof XYZ I will be investigating the correlation between access to economic opportunities and youth involvement in cybercrime. VO: Okay. Alright (kept typing into the system). Is your research going to focus on Nigeria?
ME: (VO give me through pass, I no gock am) Yes. Nigeria has had several issues with cybercrime in recent times. My research will be focused on Nigeria.
VO: Tell me about your plans after your studies
Me: I plan to return to Nigeria to take up a full-time lecturing job. I've always wanted to become a professor of Sociology. I also plan to publish academic papers that would interrogate and proffer solutions to the challenges of Cybercrime in Nigeria.
VO: Okay. So you plan to become an academic?
Me: Yes.
VO: Okay. I will be approving your visa. (Hands me the white paper and begin to talk about Covid-19 protocols bla bla bla. My ear don already block like ghetto soakaway. Lol
Me: Collects white paper with thanksgiving in my heart and left smiling.
NB: Take your case to God in prayers even if you're an atheist. The issuance of visa at the embassy, in my opinion, is 30% hardwork and 70% grace, if you like call it luck. However, this is not a liberty to relax. Work hard and also pray hard. I will advise whoever is attending the interview to be straightforward with answers. Only say what you are asked to minimize the risk of saying things that might potentially be used against you by the VO. Also try as much as possible to make your responses unique.
SPECIAL APPRECIATION I am grateful to my friend Seun in the US who helped me throughout this visa application process. I am also thankful to my friend Babs who never gave up on me. Of course, I also thank all the beautiful people here whose transcripts and inputs have helped me tremendously. Big shout out to Fairheart who gave his expert opinion on my last rejection and encouraged me to apply again. To those who are still dreaming, don't give up. Cheers! Omo, the V.O through you pass with that “research focus on Nigeria” you chest am... sharpest guy!!! |

shadeyinka: Why did the price of dollar go up even with the BDC? It was because of the scarcity of dollars!
People need dollars that they cannot access from the banks, the only alternative was the BDC where they have to pay through their nose to get.
Now, the CBN has not banned the Business of BDC meaning that these could source their dollars from anywhere they can. The banks through the back door will now sell to them at higher prices and of course, they will pass it to the consumers who still have no other choice apart from the BDC.
Thus, the price of dollar will increase top nothing less than $1 to N780.
The only way out is for FG to allow every Nigerian to walk into any bank and exchange their Naira for Dollars on the counter. Other than this, I'm sorry: the CBN has started a bigger round of inflation especially knowing that more than 80% of our importers do not get their forex from the banks. Would be it nice to just walk into bank and buy USD at the counter? Even if not physical dollar, maybe some kinda e-dollar in Visa card for travelers or paid into a dormicilliary account for remittance. This may take the pressure off and halt arbitrage. |
Business › Re: CBN To Supply FOREX To Banks Only by owagbeba: 8:22pm On Jul 27, 2021 |
phadriz: This same policy was implemented in Jan 2016 and was reversed in Sept 2016 because dollar rate in the parallel market skyrocketed, also the pressure from the BDC owners overwhelmed the man because major owners of BDCs are who is who in the country and ex CBN directors.
The BDCs operators are necessary evil because they Finance the independent importers which are not covered for Forex purchase which is also an infraction to Bureau de change guideline. The operators run the sector with impunity such as selling above approved threshold to fund unapproved transactions with fake documents for returns and CBN are aware of this but I think their hands are tight as well.
Our Forex problem is too complex which can never be solved with a single policy. Honestly, CBN is indeed into voodoo economics; applying a magic wand at any problem, hoping for the “ waaa laaa” moment. Most of the importers/traders at Orile, Alaba, Ladipo, Balogun access USD from the street BDC to cover import costs. The banks have made Form Q difficult and the waiting time now is over 90 days and counting. One is never sure when the bank will debit Naira account and credit overseas supplier with USD. This makes the whole form Q route very inconvenient for importers. Providing Exchange control documents ( customs documents including PAAR & Form M) covering every usd purchased through the bank is also not making this route easy for traders. Some result to using newly registered to access usd via form Q. Banks are aware of this, so form Q access made more stringent. My Question; Why can I take my Naira or Naira in my account to the cashier and ask my bank to send dollar to oversea body without much protocol? And expecting the cashier to do it immediately and give me a print out. Just the way it’s done in other countries. |

Then after like 1min after I answered the question. She went on typing.. that was it. Interview Date: 22nd Oct 2021 Expedited Date: 06th July Location: Abuja VO: May i have your passports and I20 ME: Handed over I20’s and 4 passports Note: I applied with my husband and kids (F2) . First is 4yrs old and the other is 2. VO: Where do you work? ME: Greeted and continued to answer her that i work with a non govt organization and have been with them for 4months VO: Why is your husband going with you? ME: To support me with the travels, settling down and join in the decision making for my kids school but he will return to his work after we are settled. VO: What are your post study plans? ME: The organization i work with have an understanding with me and have given me 2yrs study non pay leave. So i plan to return to them with the skills i have acquired through this course to address these issues that are affecting women in Nigeria. VO: You will return to a place you have worked for just 4months? ME: Yes because they’re particular about women and it aligns with the course i will be studying VO: List everywhere you have worked and the years which you started each. ME: Saw her looking at the computer and noding in agreement as i talked (guess she was going through my DS160) All the times i tried giving her a supporting document she refused to collect, she said look me in the eye and answer my questions. I don’t need to see anything. After typing for about 2mins she said i love that you were bold enough to apply with your kids and husband and i will be approving your visa etc…… My honest advice is fill that DS160 yourself, and remember all you have put there. I have no travel history, neither does my husband. Boy! What a lucky lady you are! You beat the odds.. you had it all against you: working at NGO, 4 months employment, traveling with the whole house, no travel history and no ties. I think this was sheer luck, and the visa officer said it was because you were truthful and bold (applying for the whole family) |

Just can’t wrap my head around the thought process of some the folks who comment on this forum. How do you even intend building a nation where folks do not tolerate other views on issues? And quick to insult. Nairaland is a forum.... NOT SOLELY FOCUSED ON NAIRA MATTERS! It covers a range of topics. And people like us who bring content on other issues other than Naira /Naija ones to the fore help the readership to grow. Issues like the Cuban one I have highlighted have sparked war between nations. Big power play by big nations do cause war. And these wars affect everyone. Ukraine is at war due to powerful nations wanting a regime change. Libya is a not-too-far example of how lives were ruined just because one or two powerful nations have a bone to pick with Gaddafi. |

It’s all too clear the US government is trying hard to provoke unrest in the island nation of Cuba. “ Technology exists to provide Internet access into Cuba remotely, using the innovation of American enterprise and the diverse industries here,” wrote DeSantis, adding that “our efforts must include creating a means for the Cuban people to speak to the world,” because that “may be the key to finally bringing democracy to the island.”The internet is now the new weapon of choice. With Many social media apps, it getting easy to manufacture consent and attempt regime change at any target nation. US government has blocked trade and banking access to Cuba for years. Those living in US can NOT send money back to their families. Bank transfer to Cuba is blocked. Any company attempting to trade with Cuba will be sanctioned. Many western companies have largely stayed out of Cuba economy for fear of sanction. Non western companies are also staying clear of Cuba if they have trade or any asset in west. Traditional media like VOA has not really been successful at creating discontent against the government of Cuba. With new media.... it’s getting all too easy to engineer protest. https://www.rt.com/usa/529335-cuba-biden-failed-state-internet/

Zoophiles believe it’s acceptable to be intimate with an animal, and want the LGTBQ+ movement to add a Z to its name. Is It discriminatory to exclude them from “rainbow” movement? What about tree huggers? —————- Zoophiles believe it’s acceptable to be intimate with an animal, and want the LGTBQ+ movement to add a Z to its name. RT spoke to one about their secret world, and with members of the ‘furry’ and ‘therian’ communities. Pride Month has just come to an end, following four weeks of global parades and celebrations featuring gay, bisexual, queer, trans, de-trans, asexual and other marginalised communities. But one group not welcome, for the most part, is the zoophile community. In a nutshell, this comprises people who have a sexual attraction to animals, although this may not always necessarily be acted upon There are also two other related animal-loving identities, those who consider themselves therians or furries. The former are people who feel they have a non-human element, spiritually or psychologically, while the latter have an adoration of only certain animals. There is a degree of overlap between both groups, and some wear animal suits and masks to celebrate their identity, although to make the situation even more complicated, some therians and furries are also zoophiles. Many from the three communities shun publicity due to the automatic assumption from outsiders that they enjoy sex with animals. Those who do engage in sexual intimacy could face criminal charges or violent reprisals from the public should their identities be revealed. Some contemplate suicide or have even killed themselves due to the stress of being relentlessly harassed. However, one figure in the zoophile community did agree to speak to RT. Toggle is from Pennsylvania, and wanted to put on record that he was contributing only because of his dissatisfaction at how zoophiles are portrayed in the media. He was adamant that they cannot be excluded from Pride, no matter what the masses say. Toggle said, “Zoophiles are quintessentially queer. But if you think Pride is a social event that you can be uninvited from, you misunderstand it on a fundamental level. Pride is a protest. Pride is about defiance against a society that doesn’t want you to exist. “Some people may have forgotten that, but I haven’t. So, people can say things on Twitter like, ‘Zoophiles aren’t welcome at Pride’, but they can’t stop us from participating. Pride isn’t something other people can take away from you unless you let them.” Read more - https://www.rt.com/op-ed/528430-zoophiles-embraced-pride-lgbtq/ |

OTD July 3 1979: President Jimmy Carter signs a "presidential finding" authorizing the CIA to spend just over $500,000 on non-lethal aid to support the Afghan mujahideen against growing Soviet influence in the region.
The 'growing Soviet influence' was the progressive PDPA government that ruled Afghanistan but did not do as Washington asked it to do. It was the U.S. 'aid' to rebels which forced the USSR to intervene. Everything that followed goes back to Carter's signature.
Now, forty two years after Carter's signature, a defeated U.S. flees from Afghanistan.
Despite spending double the time and many more resources than the Soviets, the U.S. and NATO completely failed the task they had set out for themselves to do. They ignored the lessons that could have been learned from the successful Soviet operation in Afghanistan. They were, unlike the Soviets, thoroughly defeated.

Northernblood3: Although no evidence to back up this jargons, but it won't take Israel much time to send Iran into History book Jargons? It does NOT mean what you think it means. Anyway, nice chat. Happy weekend |

Northernblood3: LoL,You sound funny. Now that Israel is being attacked, Terrorists are hailing them, no one is protesting against it, no Pastor or Imam is advicing these terrorists. BUT, when table turns now, you will see idiotic Christians aligning with terrorists in condemning Israel for defending themselves. Idiots If look back at the recent covert war Israel has launched against Iran, you will understand what I mean by “monopoly of violence”. Several Iranian ships heading to Syria have been hit. And Netanyahu indirectly claimed these attacks. Drones have been used to attack Iranian power stations that feed the underground nuclear facilities. An Iranian nuclear technologist was killed and the papers fingered Israel in the act. |

funshint: You are just writing rubbish...who told you the government is even sincere about the war. This is a public forum. And it will be nice if you could respect others opinion even if you don’t agree with it. Don’t use those kind of words like “rubbish” to attack someone else on a faceless forum, it only shows your class and level of education. |

I think Israel should understand it doesn’t have the monopoly of violence. Any potential conflict with Iran will be a disaster for both nations. |
