abduleez1:Proper shite 😞😞. My Achilles heel be say i too care about this damn industry fgs, i go always form nonchalant when dem dey drop these their garb, but after a few days, i don cave in, fall for their gimmick 😩. I just hope say, one day the industry go actually wake up and get sense 😭😭 |
To Kill A Monkey (2025) Idea...100%... Crass:100% Execution: 0%. I didn’t want to be overly critical with this, but this was, in fact, a Kemi Adetiba imprint, a supposedly accomplished filmmaker in these parts and a Netflix-commissioned show, for that matter. The title, "To Kill A Monkey," might actually be the most apt and cleverly thought-out aspect of the entire project. The euphemism was nuts, considering the supposed subject matter. Unfortunately, that's where the fun ended. The central theme of the show was Cybercrime , which I thought was a very important narrative to explore at this point in time. But if you weren't paying close attention, you'd think this was just another gang/drug turf war flick. It follows two friends with contrasting personalities, who are driven by misfortune into the world of cybercrime. I thought that was a solid premise... only if they had stuck with it. The show juggled so many plotlines, attempting to tell stories in layers that should have built toward something meaningful. The problem? They were just building , with no plan on how to stick the landing. By the third act, each scene felt like it belonged to a completely different show. I liked King of Boys, but Kemi Adetiba is starting to behave like a drug dealer who struck gold with a bomb hit and now keeps flooding the market with the same formula, just in different packaging , too scared to evolve and find something new. You could clearly see King of Boys DNA all over this , and it felt wildly out of place for the story at hand. To put it in perspective, the opening scene was this elaborate occultic ritual, that ended up meaning absolutely nothing. The performances were okay-ish. The two leads, Buchi Franklin and William Benson, had enough chemistry to carry the show, but there's this new-age style of acting in Nollywood that I personally detest , it’s overdone, overly crass, and just doesn’t feel believable. It lacks a certain refinement. The show was also filled with way too many unnecessary characters , chief among them, an “Old Taker” played by Chidi Mokeme. He had no business being in this. It epitomizes my feeling that this would’ve worked better as a movie rather than a show. Because with a series format and approx. 8 hours to burn, all the unnecessary characters had more time to waste and added zero value to the story. The production value was clean, as you'd expect from a Netflix-funded show. The pomp and props were shiny all sitting on top of a bad, not-so-well-thought-out script. And maybe that’s exactly what I should start expecting any time I see Netflix attached to a local show. 😩 Each episode ended with “Written and Directed by Kemi Adetiba” , which might be the core issue here. These big-name filmmakers often get that coveted Netflix sit-down and the heavy seed money, only to turn around and deliver polished garbage. If only they allowed other creative voices into the writers' room, this might have gone somewhere. I’ve genuinely seen Zikoko YouTube short stories that are better written than this. This is probably why the technical aspects of our filmmaking haven’t progressed as much as the social media clout would have you believe. Anyway, this was a tedious watch and honestly, I wouldn’t have missed a thing if I hadn’t bothered. So I truly wonder what all the praise I’m seeing littered across X is for... A special... special... mess. 🚮✨ 4/10

abduleez1:Brooo...I remember it been part of the list of shows to see during the onset of the COVID pandemic lockdown that i randomly saw on Twitter now X back then, coped S1 and S2, casually started it, and got hooked from S1E1, some people where saying it started slowly, but not for me... Easily one of the best written and character development arc show at the time... I mean the Emmys totally dread to see them coming 😩...They were packing them like flies, i mean, at a time, Jeremy Strong and Kieran Culkin were nominated in the lead actor in a drama cate, like do you know how crazy that is?!. They gave us 4 banger season and left when the ovation was loudest like a real champ. easily easily one of my favourites shows ever, and absolutely no surprises that HBO cooked it...dem too sabi this series thing abeg...but e b like them relax this year o 😩😩.... |
I usually don't agree with most of his takes but i tend to align with this one. Films these days aren't really striving for sort of lasting pop cultural impact, it's all box office battle slops which will inevitably land on VOD in a month or 2, and everybody is gonna forget about it right after then. If i really deep it, none of my truly memorable films that has really been profound, have been made within the last 10 years...maybe Oppie, can't really remember these slops like i would vividly remember "Terminator" saying "I will be back", or the Now, the entire blockbuster slate for this year are filled with movies, that has had so many iterations for years and years, and nobody is probably gonna remember this iteration when the year ends. Just look at the biggest movies currently playing now, "Superman", "the 1967th installment of Jurassic World" and the probably the 4th or 5th reboot (really don't know cuz i don't even care) of F4...none of these movies will be remembered, once they are dumped on VOD in a month or 2, Just like Thunderbolt* (2025) or Captain America BNW(2025) have been all but forgotten, but the buildups to these movies were so well made, you'd think you were in for a once in a lifetime moment, the icing on the cake, this week alone, i have seen another iteration of MK, Predator and Bloody Avatar(seems James Gunn is gonna make this forever) being announced for this year and none of this elicit any form of profound excitement from me, cuz i have seen it all and i know exactly what to expect. Now i know, these reboots, and rehashing characters and stories from a more successful period of Hollywood, seems like a safe bet for the movie studios, a guaranteed payday if you will, but me that is a cinephile, that they expect to spend my hard earned money on these slops, what's in it for me? So i should just go and sit, and watch "Earth Warriors save the Earth from OutWorld and the War Hammer welding Emperor for the upteenth time? or i should go see the Predator decide if he wants to be a hero or an anti hero for the thousandth time? or go help Avatar make another 3bn green when I can't even remember the last one, and the whole point of the movie has been lost since the end of the first one in 2009? some 15 years ago?...Hell No. Point being....You will most likely find me waiting for these slops to become available on VOD, which thank f**k, it doesn't even take that long anymore, see them, forget about them, and wait till the next slop is out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vK1LY1KC_w |
abduleez1:He too sabi am...Fans dey beg am, make him make another "Mindhunter" but he no gree 😩😩 |
Baddestguyp:All these you mentioned, is why he was indeed, very crafty The cyphers having grammatical errors was part of the ruse, to mislead, mock and intimidate, rather than it being down to ignorance. those grammatical errors were intentional. those errors made it more difficult for code breakers to decipher since, the cyphers avoided standard patterns and normal word patterns, lexicons and structures were disrupted. His acts spanning a wide region, was a nightmare for the FBI and local enforcement agencies, making it more difficult for a coordinated man hunt, further complicated by him using different murder weapon, making it seem like the murders were been committed by different people, when infact, it was just one person. The modus operandi of most serial killer is to follow one define pattern, kill in the same area, use same murder weapon/style making them an easy catch for the authorities, but not the Zodiac Killer |
Baddestguyp:Special.... Special Film 🌟 What is worse than a serial killer? A very intelligent serial killer!...One of my most fascinating cases when i was prolifing serial killers. The crafty bastard was never caught and the case remains unsolved till this day, he just lead the FBI on a long wild goose chase. David Fincher is certainly one to properly make a serial killer flick, he is just too good, with this material. Only "The Social Network" (2010) ranks above this for me, from his impressive filmography |
NobleStag007:A skewed narrative that is so on brand for a Snyder fanatic, like yourself to say tbh 😩. Cuz if you have followed the JL animation or even picked up the comics, you would know that Batman roasting the JL, especially Superman is a common running gag. Infact go on YT, and such for Batman roasting and you will be amazed how funny it can get whilst still keeping on track with the narrative. Point being, shît doesn't have to be dark all the time for it to have a popular appeal tbh, it just boils down to whatever the filmmaker wants, without stripping the vital elements that makes "Superman", Superman, which is self sacrifice and what not. I loved "Man of Steel" too, probably more than you sef, but please leave the shackles of ZS, and breathe 😩. And it's fine, if you don't wanna see this new flick, but am pretty sure, WB or DC, aren't loosing sleep if the mighty Noblestage007 from NL, isn't seeing it...so do you bro ✌🏿

pu7pl3:PH ke? Oil money state 😩....Pay and don't complain 🤭
|
Calibrator: abduleez1:The Ragnar name was popular ngl but mann, the start was too slow paced, hence the reason i lost interest fast. But if i say i will pick it up anytime soon, i would be lying 😩. Ever notice how it is difficult to go back to see shows that you didn't follow when it was airing? Especially those with many seasons and more than a dozen load of episodes?...Just too many shows and movies out to occupy your time. |
Achilles100:Vikings No matter how hard i tried, i just couldn't get past the first few episodes of S1. It didn't help that it came out around the peak years of "GOT", and fans of the show were trying to place both on the same pedestal, which i found laughable. Tried to restart it years later, didn't have the patience for it..so i just had to let go. Funny enough, I followed all 3 seasons of the Sequel show, Vikings: Valhalla, and i absolutely loved it 🫣😩 |
abduleez1:Mannn... Hardship don erode middle class comot this hell hole finish, so tey cinema experience come be like luxury fgs 😩😩. I used to use my Uni ID card to get movies at #500 on Wednesdays back then. Even at that, movies were 1k, then maybe weekends or holidays, 1.5k at best. Men were doing "Infinity war" (2018) rewatch multiple times, but at 9.5k per ticket, even the first watch sef na wahala 😩😩 |
phr0nesis:I don't know how to explain it...but Pedro Pascal might actually be the most "marketable" actor currently, he has somehow moved from a tier C actor to a tier A actor, within the last 2 years, so it's not surprising that brands want his face everywhere. In contrast, Deigo Luna was on a Pod some years ago, saying it was difficult for him getting roles, as he was always stereotyped as a "drug dealer" because of his BG, infact, no prizes for guessing his most accomplished role before Andor. Point being, These awards shows are a brand, they care about how they are perceived, especially, in a political, socially tensed times as we are. More often than not, a stellar performance on the show, might not be enough, they tend to give or nominate people that has a certain "personality" and who wouldn't taint the brand...i don't know if you catch my drift. |
SOZINN:lol in a twisted funny irony, if i didn't see Lex Luthor or Superman in that clip, my muscle memory will instantly jolt me to think that this was infact aMCU flick/i] (which you love so much btw) ... same exact template...same exact execution 😬😩. I mean, this is basically what Ironman does with Jarvis, in battle mode. No?. Now it's, no gain saying, it's probably so, because, one of the Chief architect of the MCU also made this movie.and here in lies the problem...If you as an MCU fanatic, say you suddenly have a bone to pick with this formula, then you might as well, be admitting you hate the MCU..😩 because this overly comedic superhero thingy is what the MCU ate good with over the years tbh. |
Baddestguyp:Man of Steel (2013) is/still is one of the best Superman movies ever made ..any slandering, is nitpicking at best. |
Illusioneffect:Super Fairs man as you totally had me at, "it's also part of my job" plus this particular universe has been rebooted so many times with a little crack at success. The lore is filled with so many interesting characters that has done well in the comics and animation, but hasn't really translated great to a continuous successful live action universe. So this probably making bank, would spur the studios to greenlit other projects in the universe and i can now see how, that would be good news for fans of the comics 🤙🏿 |
Illusioneffect:Just thinking out loudly here. I have never been a fan of tracking what movie makes or didn't make, i use to care at some point, but i soon realize, it's neither here nor there. Do you as a fan, get an extra kick and faux bragging rights when a movie makes bank? Cuz i believe that should be the studios headache. I simply do not care for James Gunn that much, to be keeping up with all these, i just want to watch the movie, and get on with my day. I mean, most of the the comments on the movie, since it's widespread premiere yesterday, has been on how much, it is currently making and not the critical aspect of it...if there is some sort of perceived fun attached to this particular discourse, i have most likely weaned myself of it. |
This been posted by the official WH acc is sending me 😩🥲, extremely cringe doesn't even begin to express my feelings.. I hate how motion picture now are overly political. They used to pander to political vices in the past but it was subtle, these days, it's all too glaring and a tad distracting. I dare say, it restricts creative freedom. I just wanna see a fictional alien from a fictional planet, who grew on a farm in a fictional town in Kansas, kick the butts of fictional villains on a grand spectacle on a massive screen but i am hearing reviews like, the new "Superman" is a fk you to Isreal"....., like, yo, you lot gotta to chill, i didn't come here for all that 😩😩

Kaycee7:Thanks, man. I’ve maintained a Medium account for a while where I post my musings, but I’ve been rather inconsistent, mainly because of the hectic nature of adulting and trying to juggle everything. Hopefully, I’ll find a balance soon and get into a more consistent flow. That said, there are a few guilty pleasures I indulge in, and movies rank high on that list. When I see one I really, really like (or occasionally, really, really hate 🥲), I can’t help but write about it passionately. |
The Bear – Season 4 (2025) “These are the Bears!” Season 2 set such an unprecedented high standard. It drew in new fans and fooled many into thinking this was a spontaneous, chaotic show. But by Season 3, they quickly realized it wasn’t that. Every scene is intentional. The negative reviews then spilled into this new season, making me skeptical at first. But having now seen it and being part of the tribe that thugged it out from Season 1, I can confidently say this is still the exact same show: brutally slow to spontaneous moments, but excellent in the build-up and execution of those moments. Season 4 opens with the team still trying to keep The Bear afloat. At this point, it seems like it’s never going to happen, and that’s the brilliance of the show. Nothing is handed to them. You can see the team collectively working toward that goal, amidst the mess that is their personal lives. It’s warm, fuzzy, emotional, a big play on how to deal with loss, how to release pain, and everything in between. The show isn’t even trying to win new fans anymore. I’ve personally stopped recommending it to people because it’s so niche. You either get it the first time and stick with it, or you don’t. There’s no in-between. Excellent performances from the cast once again. Particular praise, as always, for the two leads their scenes together feel like something could go off at any moment. There are many words being said, yet you still feel the dread of everything left unsaid. I’m glad the writers haven’t given in to fan-fueled fantasy theories about them. We get the occasional fine cameos from Will Poulter, Saul Goodman, and a fun hop-in by Captain Marvel. If a show gives me the same feeling I had watching Succession, The Office, The Leftovers, and Scrubs, then it’s special. And The Bear gives me those exact feelings. They will scrub the Emmy's again this year but for a fourth year in a row, This isn't a comedy show! 😭😅 Loved it. And I’m glad it’s been rightly renewed for a fifth season. I’m here for it, however long it takes to unravel. Actually… they should take their time. 8/10

abduleez1:lol i can slightly see why you'd hold this opinion of him but in his defence and at the risk of sounding like a broken record, that's just his style, and he hasn't particularly had roles that he needed to overtly exert himself to show the kind of dexterity you expect of him. He does what exactly needs to be done, and he is not a bad actor in my book lol, not by a very long mile. His "Neo" Character from the The Matrix ranks amongst the 100 Greatest movie characters of all time..says alot! |
Illusioneffect:Actors all have peculiar acting styles or methodology, that works well for them and they tend not to want to deviate, as it is a safe bet, why some other actors have the ability to flip methodology and change styles per roles, which is good, but it doesn't make them better actors than the latter. Keenu Reeves and Liam Neeson have the same demeanor towards acting, and i have not really seen a widespread claim, that they are bad actors. I have also seen them carry the same demeanors into other genres, that is not action, and they were believable performances and endearing af. Keanu Reeves in "Destination Wedding" (2018), might be one of the best male lead in a Rom Com i have seen in the last 10 years and Liam Neeson in "Ordinary Love" (2019) is actually one of the best portrayals of grief and loss by Husband to a stage 4 cancer wife, i have seen. It might come off as monotonous, but this is their style, and I will be first in line to see any films, both are in tbh. |
abduleez1:I did a research on this some time ago and the sound mixing on modern films is deliberate... Back then when filmmaking was in the earlier stages, cinemas were straight forward, no surround sound or anything, so actors had to actually shout thier lines, and that meant clearer dialogues amidst other ambient sounds. Fast Forward to this era when digital filmmaking has taken over, Hollywood switched to the so called "Immersive experience", where Cinemas, are actually capable of surround sound with capable speakers, and sound design got better, so it meant actors no longer needed to shout their lines, but the sound designer would want you to hear every and feel every sound, the ambient sound, sound of the environment, score etc from the movie, so the highs, are very highs, like an action sequence, and the lows are very low, like the dialogues from the actors, since they didn't need to shout thier lines anymore, as their dialogue get lost in the surrounding sound, people watching movies at the comfort of their homes, even have it worst, as most people see movies from thier Tvs, Laptops or phones, that don't have capable speaker set ups, for this immersive sound experience that Hollywood crave so much. Of course filmmakers could easily fix this in post, but in fairness most Hollywood films, especially blockbusters, are mixed for theaters and not for home. Chief culprit is Christopher Nolan, His sound design for his flicks might be the most annoying in the industry, Brilliant filmmaker, but the sound! 😩. In the TDKR, Tom Hardy had to deepen his voice and alter it from his Natural speaking voice, so his dialogues weren't clear enough, because of the surrounding ambient sounds, CN saw it in post, and decided not to alter it, as it felt more "Natural" 😩. Straight to VOD movies which are actually mixed for home and should sound better, have another peculiar problem, Streaming platforms like Netflix, actually compress movie quality, before posting on their platform, so as to save bandwidth, if not, Netflix will be crashing now and then, the sheer number of people simultaneously streaming 4K contents and High Fidelity sounds. This "problem" isn't going away, and so the best solution is "Subtitles", no matter how badly mixed a sound design is, you could always hear the dialogues, and follow the story., second option, and this is for true audiophiles with bag, is to get better speakers, sound bars, etc that have surround sound capabilities, so you can listen to the sound just as the filmmaker intended and still hear the dialogues. For Cinemas, there isn't much you can do. Some very advanced cinema offers subtitles, via devices personally to people who requests for them, as open subtitles might ruin the cinema experience for some people, even though like 60% of the time, they can't hear the dialogues 😭. But then again, The last Nollywood flick, i saw at the cinema, had embedded subtitles, and the experience was just fine...i always thought subtitles at the cinema should catch on... |
abduleez1:NTA's resolution is still hovering around 480p and 720p in this big 2025 😩. To put things in perspective, Japan's National Tv, NHK, broadcasts in Ultra HD 8k and has helped spread the gospel of anime, round the world, over the years. I am taking anything NTA says they're gonna do with a pinch of salt, because quite frankly, they aren't a serious institution, and this isn't even a serious country even!. I am even more baffled, how they still exist! |
SOZINN: |
abduleez1:Bro...The idea of the film was more fun than the actual film fgs, the marketing run was bonkers, i was been sold dreams by Twitter for Shalaye, that only Endgame ranked above it 😩😩 There wasn't even a story, the supposed villain, didn't even know if he was a villain or not...it was just a mess from start to finish. |
Ballerina (2025). Same Old Same Old Good action sequence and a compelling performance from the lead but maan, it is basically "John Wick" for female empowerment aficionados, same trope, same plot layer even, at the end, i just knew they were gonna have a hit contract out for her, for breaking some aged long rule of the family, to set up some unnecessary sequel and low and fking behold 😩. As if they haven't copied John Wick enough, they even tossed in John Wick for moral support. They are definitely gonna milk this further, but i am really not tryna see "Mama Yaga" repeat these stunts for the next couple of years....so i bid this franchise, adieu, me sef don try 🙏🏿✌🏿 |
majesticguy:Got a free time off work, and this was unfortunately the first movie i saw, so you could imagine how vexed i was at the ending. These Mfs didn't even do anything tangible, they just entered the void and started a therapy session fgs 😭😭 |
joseph1832:Mann I could argue that democracy is a curse rather than a blessing...😩.. A great number of idiots can line up against one giant idiot and they will have their way because of better numbers. I saw a futuristic British show sometimes ago, where a politician was proposing that voting, should only be open to people with very high IQ and the rationals, to reduce the chances of electing an inept leader and i totally saw the vision, but will true democracy ever allow this? Absolutely not 😞 |
Squid Game S3 (2025) Greed won and won big!. This show peaked at Season 2, and I knew Season 3 (which, in hindsight, feels like Part 2 of S2) was going to crescendo into an ending that might not sit well with many people. But I’m not one of them. To understand and digest that ending, you have to realize, there are no saints in this story only sinners. Not the rich Americans looking for a new bloodsport, not the organizers or enablers of the game, and certainly not the participants whose greed was so insatiable that even when given the option to leave, they kept voting to continue. (A fatal flaw of democracy: when the number of idiots outweighs the sane and rational.) In hindsight, it was a perfect ending, in my books. Now to the elephant in the room: man, the Americanization of the entire S3,especially the last 15 minutes of the finale, was an eyesore. The actors playing the "Americans" were terrible. They spoke English, yes, but it felt like a foreign language. I know this was done in preparation for the show's crossover into Hollywood, but I’m still not convinced about what the gringos plan to do with this premise. All in all, this show had already cemented its place in pop culture history long before this season. It's easily one of the GOATs,one of the finest exports from Korean cinema, and, quite frankly, one of the best-looking shows ever. The production value is top-tier. The cinematography? Top shelf. Every scene popped with colours, literally everywhere you looked. That’s just one of my many takeaways. And yes, this Season 3 is totally watchable, and fitting, in its own twisted way. I liked it. Special... Special... show. ✨ 7/10.

abduleez1:There was a time i was actively chasing all the classics.. Citizen Kane, Gone with the Wind, Casablanca, Lawrence of Arabia etc., then i realized there was zero prizes for seeing them, i had to disembark make mid no go wound me 😭. There are some good ones, but mannn, the stories hold up, but the other aspect of the film making was most times gutter quality, considering film making, now is like, light years above it... maybe people born in those era would appreciate it more, but mann i know where to draw the line, might revisit later on, but make better film breeze blow my hair small 😩😩 |
