You don't win or lose a presidential election because of just only one factor but multiplicity of factors, the greatest being the political party, availability of fund (don't be deceived sir. Electoral contests cost fortune), sentiments like religion & tribe and Incumbency factors.

1) someone who practice their religion or comes from their Region

2) Someone who is in their party where they can get certain benefits

3) A candidate that is opposing the candidate they hate.

4) A candidate that is not Fulanis

5) A candidate that is well educated

6) A party that distribute money

7) Too many numerous interests.

THe Oyo referred to in this oriki is the Ago di Oyo, not the empire. This current one is not the same as the empire. It was founded by one prince, hence, Oyo Atiba.

Ago-Oja was the hometown of the mother of Prince Atiba, one of the great-grandsons of Alaafin Abiodun ( his other well known descendants were Oluyole in Ibadan and Afonja in Ilorin).

It was Atiba that moved the Capital down south to his mother's home town (Ago-Oja) and renamed it the new Oyo.

How did he participate from prison?

Power was handed to him on a platter.

The powerbrokers of the country sat and decided to compensate the Southwest for Abiola. And once that was agreed on, they went in search of a candidate they can trust. And that was how Obasanjo was released from prison to contest against Alex Ekwueme who founded the PDP and was the clear favorite to clinch the ticket.

Why can’t that be done for Ndigbo?

1) Obasanjo was released by Gen Abdusalami Abubakar shortly after his assumption of office in 1998 before the ban on Politics was lifted and the PDP was formed.

2) Dr Alex Ekwueme didn't found the PDP. He was the protem chairman of G-34 , most of whom came together after Abacha's death to form the PDP.

3) Obasanjo joined the PDP, donated #130 Millions to the PDP, join the presidential race, contested in the 1999 presidential primaries of the party at their Jos Convention and defeated Dr Alex Ekwueme, Jim Nwobodo, Obong Don Etiebet, Chief Philips Asiodu and Chief Graham-Douglas.

4) The propaganda that Obasanjo was in the prison then is a poor revision of recent history.

Olu Falae and OBJ emerged as candidates of the two major political parties regardless of the activities of OPC.

Participation is key. Even if you don't win , you will be in a better capacity to negotiate for sharing proceeds from the power.


If Obasanjo and Falae didn't participate in the primaries but demanding that they should be given presidential ticket, no one would have taken them serious.


Consistently complaining about what you opponents/rivals will do and given these as excuses for non-participations show that you don't have confidence in yourself. In this case, nobody will lend their support to you.


You must sit for JAMB, before soliciting for people to help you pay tuition fees.
