Indispensable85: The PDP governors will destroy the party if they field a northerner. They'll get the defeat of their lives. I don't know why some kids here think the whole of the north will vote a party because it's candidate is from the north. I dey laff.... Many of them think that the so-called 'North' is one homogeneous region where everybody is a Fulani. The first people that will kick against a Fulani succeeding Buhari will be the people of Southern Kaduna, Benue, Plateau, Taraba and the numerous Northern minorities. |

Electoral contests cost fortune), sentiments like religion & tribe and Incumbency factors. |

HIGHESTPOPORI: Till then, we would know if North will leave their Son Tambuwal or Atiku and vote for Osibanjo. In an election, multiple interests comes to play but the ultimate interest is SELF-INTEREST. The self interest for Mr-A may not necessarily be the Self-interest for Mr-B. It's plain naive to assume that every voter in the 'North' regards Tambuwal as his son and that voting for 'our son' is the only interest of every voter. The interest of some people is to vote for 1) someone who practice their religion or comes from their Region 2) Someone who is in their party where they can get certain benefits 3) A candidate that is opposing the candidate they hate. 4) A candidate that is not Fulanis 5) A candidate that is well educated 6) A party that distribute money 7) Too many numerous interests. |

In my opinion, Saraki..yes...saraki and Obi would make a sensible pick. Call him all manners of names but its all political. Saraki is a potential candidate. People of kwara now can spot the difference after they revolted against saraki and all the unfounded lies they peddled against him. I also feel Saraki is good enough to be president. However, with the ways the political structure of Nigeria is delicately balanced, Saraki who neither North nor South will find it difficult to get block votes from the voting blocks needed to win. |

Ago-Oja was the hometown of the mother of Prince Atiba, one of the great-grandsons of Alaafin Abiodun ( his other well known descendants were Oluyole in Ibadan and Afonja in Ilorin). It was Atiba that moved the Capital down south to his mother's home town (Ago-Oja) and renamed it the new Oyo. |

The Jos congress was mere formality as the result was already known before then after power brokers backed Obasanjo.
But you can choose to continue to live in denial of such background power plays. You aren't sure of what you want to give as excuses. 1) First, you guys said that Obasanjo didn't participate in the 1999 PDP primaries because he was in prison. I pointed out that Obasanjo was released from prison in 1998 before the formation of the PDP. 2) Then you said that the power brokers backed Obasanjo to defeat his co-contestants. Is there any election in the whole wide world where Power brokers don't back a candidate they prefer? |

Penguin2: Obasanjo was in prison.
How did he participate from prison?
Power was handed to him on a platter.
The powerbrokers of the country sat and decided to compensate the Southwest for Abiola. And once that was agreed on, they went in search of a candidate they can trust. And that was how Obasanjo was released from prison to contest against Alex Ekwueme who founded the PDP and was the clear favorite to clinch the ticket.
Why can’t that be done for Ndigbo? Get your facts right bro. 1) Obasanjo was released by Gen Abdusalami Abubakar shortly after his assumption of office in 1998 before the ban on Politics was lifted and the PDP was formed. 2) Dr Alex Ekwueme didn't found the PDP. He was the protem chairman of G-34 , most of whom came together after Abacha's death to form the PDP. 3) Obasanjo joined the PDP, donated #130 Millions to the PDP, join the presidential race, contested in the 1999 presidential primaries of the party at their Jos Convention and defeated Dr Alex Ekwueme, Jim Nwobodo, Obong Don Etiebet, Chief Philips Asiodu and Chief Graham-Douglas. 4) The propaganda that Obasanjo was in the prison then is a poor revision of recent history. |

Penguin2: Before 1999 elections, OPC was terrorizing the Southwest and with some level of tacit support from locals.
Olu Falae and OBJ emerged as candidates of the two major political parties regardless of the activities of OPC.
Why are you choosing to be intelligent by half? The truth is that , it's very difficult to get power if you don't participate in the political processess. Participation is key. Even if you don't win , you will be in a better capacity to negotiate for sharing proceeds from the power. If Obasanjo and Falae didn't participate in the primaries but demanding that they should be given presidential ticket, no one would have taken them serious. Consistently complaining about what you opponents/rivals will do and given these as excuses for non-participations show that you don't have confidence in yourself. In this case, nobody will lend their support to you. You must sit for JAMB, before soliciting for people to help you pay tuition fees. |

We Igbos know that. And that’s why no Igbo man is interested in engaging in a wild goose chase.
Let PDP give an Igbo man its ticket and see Lagos-Ibadan expressway press and their Twitter minions going on overdrive to remind the north that voting an Igbo man is voting Nnamdi Kanu.
But we know them.
If in the spirit of United southern Nigerian, the Yoruba will not concede the presidency to the Igbos after OBJ’s 8 years as president and Osinbajo’s likely 8 years as vice, then the north can rule forever for all I care. You want someone to come power to you while sitting in your sitting room. The aspirants that pasted their posters at the convention are not foolish. They know that only one candidate can get the ticket ,yet they don't consider their participations in the process as a wild goose chase. Osita Chidoka understands the implications better than you. |
