Awol1: If you read this beautiful piece, you wouldn't have messed yourself up the way you did.
IPOB is prominent because the people feel, and are, marginalized.
If a child is crying and requesting for something and you try to shut the child's mouth with threat and beating for so many times but the child has refused to shut up...
Isn't the next most sensible thing to do, giving the child what he is crying for? And after that if he ever cries again, even neighbors will join in beating the child for being unreasonably troublesome.
The IPOB miscreants you see have fathers, mothers and siblings. Address the underlying issue of Igbo marginalization and see them called to order.
It's a pity Ekwueme came this close only to be denied in the last minute. A brilliant man that would have put this country in the right path. Dr Alex Ekwueme was defeated in the Primaries of the PDP in the 1999 Jos Convention of the party. It is very wrong to say he was denied. If he had won the Primaries but wasn't given the ticket or he won the election but wasn't sworn-in ( like MKO Abiola), then you can rightly say he was denied. Jim Nwobo, Don Etiebet, Philips Asiodu and Alabo-Douglass where also defeated in that Primaries. Will it be right to say they were denied the opportunity to be president? |

Rochas2023: Is not about politics is about keeping Nigeria one. The only way to do that Peacefully is Igbo president. After which the minorities in the NC will take there turn. Is about giving people a sense of belonging But you haven't explained 1) Who can grant this request- who has the power to make an Igbo President? 2) How will this be achieved? Will there be presidential primaries in each party or the party will just handpicked Igbo candidates? |

plusfield: Let me start with your no 3. Are you aware that more than 50% of the footwears worn in these poor African nations are made in aba. Dont take my word for it. Visit Ariaria market in ABA, go to the bakassi end of the market where the footwears are made and find out who their markets are. There you will see customers from these African countries loading footwears, what did the federal government do? They closed the borders. That has accounted for loss of billions in revenue to these hardworking industrialists. The FGN knew what they were doing. They claim it's to stop illegal imports but killing legitimate exports. Enyinnaya Abaribe who represents that Constituency cried out. Did they listen? No. As along as its igbos, they can go to hell.
On your no 2. Yes, there is abundance of sun in the north. Are they harnessing it? No. What of the mineral deposits like gold that is there? They are killing any stranger that dares to come mine it with them while they still control ownership of over 65% of the oil wells in the Niger delta. And also, with regards to the power generation, I spoke once with a former boss of NERC and he told me that the law in place as we speak states that if you generate anything more than 1 megawatt of power, it must be handed to the national grid. So that stifles competitiveness and hardwork.
On no 4, I can assure you that though the south east had lagged behind in the area of industrial agriculture and farming, a lot of investment is going on as we speak in that regards by private industrialists and we pray that they reap the dividends of their investments because those who tried in the past had their fingers burnt because the govt put up policies that conferred huge advantage and favour to some competitors in the north. But for now, a silent revolution is growing in that sector now and self sufficiency and exports is the goal.
I dont know much about that no 1 point raised. Will look it up. There are problems in life. As it is for every individuals, so it is for every corporate business organizations. . .there is no easy way out. The very successful people are those who somehow have managed to solve their problems/obstacles/challenges. 1) The border closure affect all Nigerians irrespective of their tribes. If footwares can't be exported through land borders, why not through shipping ( which is the cheapest means of transportation of goods or even Cargo Airplanes?) Successful business men don't sit down whining over obstacles to their business growths but they overcome or by-pass them. 2) Do you know how many houses can use one Mega watt of electricity? Mass production of solar energy at affordable costs to private and commercial buildings don't need involvement of NERC or the FG. I know some hospitals, Hotels, Churches and even Petrol Stations that have solar panels on their roofs supplying electricity as alternatives to NEPA. You can key into this emerging markets especially in your State and nobody will discriminate against you. |
Politics › Re: Why Do Niger Delta States Not Look Like Johanessburg With Highest Allocations by oyatz(m): 12:04pm On Mar 01, 2020 |
Edygrin: You can also direct those questions to the FG. I can only write about AKS, the thing is the state uses bulk of the allocation on road construction and in a country like Nigeria you can't generate revenue through roads.
I agree with you on the private sector mindset, but the problem is most of this private enterprises when the decide to come invest in the country the central government directs them to a certain part of the country... The problem is at the centre not the states. Some states are barely surviving Every Nigerian has a State and /or reside in a State. 1) Is it the FG that will provide portable water, intra township roads with pedestrian walkways plus street light and good waste management for the people in each State? Then why do we need States' Government? 2) There are private economic players in every State. The FG doesn't even know most of them, let alone direct them to where to operate. In the First Republic when there was no oil Money, Sir Ahmadu Bello (the Premier of Northern Region) identified and looked for the best quality cotton seeds which he procurred en mass ,to be distributed through the Native Authorities in each Province and were planted all over the North. He had trained Agricultural extension workers who traveled from Funtua to Bajoga, from Gboko to Bacita from Mambila to Worno going from Villages to villages providing expert services on the growth of cotton and within a few years, Northern Nigeria became one of the Largest cotton producers in the World. Why can't we replicate the same zeal, seriousness and commitment with which the Ahmadu Bellos, the Azikiwes/Okparas and the Awolowos/Akintolas used in gennerating revenues for their administrations? Federal allocation suppose to be a BONUS but not the sole source of revenues for each State. |
Politics › Re: Why Do Niger Delta States Not Look Like Johanessburg With Highest Allocations by oyatz(m): 10:30am On Mar 01, 2020 |
Edygrin: This is understandable. Now using the OP's stats whch is inflated by the way, if you convert Akwa ibom's annual allocation to dollars its's about $1,841,271,567.07 and assuming the state spends $1B on the cost of governance it's remaining about $800M which is $67M a month.. How many projects do you think $67M can execute. Thats why most of this states resort to loans... The federal allocation can do nothing for this states. There are a lot of things we need to change in this country Excuse me boss, 1) What projects have these Governors done to improve their revenues capacity. What exactly do they do that aid wealth generation sir? 2) How can you be getting loans for projects that have no revenues generating capacity to repay the loans? We need to start running Government with the private sector mindset in this country. |
Politics › Re: Why Do Niger Delta States Not Look Like Johanessburg With Highest Allocations by oyatz(m): 10:21am On Mar 01, 2020 |
Edygrin: I beg to differ. No state in the Niger delta receives such allocation anually and your post is very sentimental. Take Akwa ibom state for instance, more than 70 percent of the monthly allocation is spent on the cost of governance. How do you expect Akwa ibom to look like the capital of the most developed African country. You should be comparing Lagos which is a slum and Abuja to Johannesburg Many Nigerians don't understand what governance mean at the Stategic leadership level. Any fool can go to Abuja, collect #300Billions as State Allocation ,use 70% to payy Government officials and servants and use the remaining to pay contractors that will contract roads, few blocks of houses etc. Real development that can take One million citizens out of poverty in one year can't be achieved like this system. |
Politics › Re: Meet First Nigerian Billionaire Who Was Worth Over $4 Billion In 1950s by oyatz(m): 9:52am On Mar 01, 2020 |
plusfield: The reason why Nigeria will never catch up with the rest of the industrialized world is because we dont want to enthrone merit system and level playing field for growth. And that's because we have tribes who believe that meritocracy, hardwork and level playing field confers advantage to igbos (can you imagine that), so they jettison these qualities and embrace tribalism, nepotism, and federal character. At the end, they wonder why Nigeria is not growing. While trying to hold igbos down, they too stay down. An igbo proverb says, "to hold somebody to the ground, you too will have to stay on the ground''. Selah. Excuse me sir, in the world of business, all these nepotism, tribalism and victim mentality don't hold water. Nigeria and indeed Africa have so many developmental needs. If you are able to solve one or two of these needs, you will make your money regardless of your ethnic backgrounds. For instance , 1) incandescent electric bulbs are gradually being phased out in Developed countries but they are still the main electric bulbs in Nigeria, so if you can be the leading supplier of 10W Plastic LED bulbs to Kwara, Niger and Kogi States, you will become a Millionaire irrespective of your ethnic background. 2) There is abundant solar energy in Nigeria, especially in Northern Nigeria. If you can invest in the Solar energy business (the future of Energy Business), you will hit it big. 3) Millions of People are walking bare footed in our Neighbouring Countries. Start exporting our locally produced slippers to Niger, Chad and Central Africa Republic. Irrespective of your ethnic background, you will make millions. 4) Nigeria is a rice eating Nation and used to spend billions of Naira to import rice, tooth picks, shoe polish, Sugar etc. Start producing one of these locally in your State and watch your mouth rewards. |

Awol1: So because you saw some PDP online supporters making such argument, therefore every PDP supporter is making the argument?
Or why include me in it?
I want power back to south.
Precisely to Southeast.
And I want Peter Obi to go for us and make this country what it should.
I've been consistent with this. Nigeria will be great when ANY citizen can aspire to and indeed become anything in this country. This is the reason I want Peter Obi, Tinubu, El-Rufai, Kwankanso, Saraki, Kingsley Moghaolu to contest. By this method it will be difficult for the so-called cabals to control every candidate, one of which must emerge. |

Biafrannuke: For the records, no Yoruba can tell us the Yoruba name of lagos. Stop saying nonsense, Eko is the native Yoruba Name for Lagos Island (Erekusi Eko). Camp= Ago (Bini)= Ago (Yoruba). Okun(Bini)= Okun (Yoruba)= Sea. During the 15th century, both Bini and Yorubas spoke a common ( or similar) tongue and didn't need interpreters to communicate. So where did you hear that EKO means camp in Bini language? |

sigiyaya: You make me laugh when ever you talk about God and leadership especially in Nigeria. See with your kind of mentality Nigeria will always be behind. We Africans are too religious that we have forgotten our task as human. While Europeans and Asians fight to better their respective countries, here in Africa we leave everything to God. It is total madness to believe that it was God that gave us the kind of leadership we have had in Nigeria; how do you explain that God gave us BUHARI..? So the colonialzation by the European is also the act of God? First i want to correct you without insult: Nigeria is not a nation, Nigeria is an European frud in Africa. Your citizens are criminals and arm robbers today is because of the quality of leadership we have being having in Nigeria. Improve the Nigeria economy and provide jobs for the people 80 percent of crime rate in Nigeria will drop. But how can we achieve this when people like you are waiting for God to give us a Good Leadership. Watch out you Guys will still vote in jagaban in 2023 and some scammers who call them self prophet will come and analysis to you guys how it is the will of God. Nigeria is a failed state today is because of our leaders whom you believe that was given to us by God, does that suggests that God is responsible for all the killings, all the lotting of our wealth etc that this currently happening in Nigeria. Because the Bible made us know that God has the ability to see the future, in fact it was written in the bible that before we are born God already know us. So God already know that all these leaders that his is given us all coming to fail and destroy the future of the people You don't still get my point probably because you already had a fixed mind and didn't bother to think deeply about what I wrote. 1) Several people nurse the ambitions to become presidents since childhood but only very few eventually become presidents in each generation...they are predestined to be. This doesn't mean they are the most intelligent, educated or the richest or even the most hard-working or they spend most during campaigngs. 2) God permit some people to become leaders of Nations, to carry out the task of administring human communities. However God will NOT do these task for them. They MUST work smartly and very hard to fulfill God's plan (Law and order on Earth, happiness for the citizens, safety of lives & properties etc). 3) This is is similar to JAMB granting some applicants the rights to go to universities but each student MUST on their own study very well to come out with flying colours. The quality of education received varies from Universities to Universities. Doing Msc in Analytical Chemistry in University of Glasgow or MBSS in University of Toronto are quite different from doing the same in Usman DanFodio University or Igbinedion University. God's role is like JAMB's (or SAT/GRE's role) Each Leader is like each student. Each University is like each Nation. JAMB can allow a student to become a university undergraduate but JAMB is not to be blamed when such a student becomes 'Oloso' or a cultist on campus. Even a Carpone of confraternity in LASU who had raped ,maimed and killed other students while studying for B Sc Chemistry will not behave like that if granted admission to do M Sc Biochemistry in Cambridge University (because the operational environment doesn't permit such behaviours). 4) Whose responsibility do exactly think is to improve the economy and provide jobs? |
Politics › Re: Bode George: Tinubu Failed As Lagos Governor, He Can't Be Nigeria's President by oyatz(m): 4:34am On Feb 26, 2020 |
sigiyaya: I sincerely apologize. But how do you explain to your younger generation that God has been responsible for the kind of leaders we have had in Nigeria since Independent and the same God is responsible for the kind of leaders we have in South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, China etc
Note: I know why i only mentioned these Asian countries.
I omitted the European countries and the south American countries on purpose Thank you for asking this very important question. 1) God has plans for every Nations. Leaders of these Nations emerged by God's permission. The leadership of Nations is too important on earth to be left to chance. 2) These Leaders are expected to carry out certain functions for their peoples. God will NOT perform these functions for them. In order to succeed in their assigned tasks, these leaders need preparations in terms of education, experience, exposure and character formation. 3) The quantity of the services that these leaders will render depend on their Nations. A Nation full of armed robbers, citizens who cheat in all dealings with low values for righteousness will likely have one of them as the leaders. 4) God's permission for few people to become presidents is similar to JAMB's permission for few people to get admission into the universities but JAMB is not responsible for their Academic performances in these Universities or the quality of education they receive. |
