This is the real issue. If the pastor wants to sue, fine. However, this is a civil case and Kemi Olunloyo should not have been arrested and detained over this matter.

The real issue is, why is this a criminal matter? Whoever is aggrieved by Kemi Olunloyo's remarks should sue at a civil court.

First Olunloyo was arrested at Ibadan and taken to Port Harcourt, where she was detained. An application for bail was made, but the magistrate happened to be ill. Was the magistrate really ill, or just "conveniently" ill to prolong Olunloyo's detention? We don't know.

Eventually, the magistrate grants bail, then a federal high court denies her bail. Who was the federal high court judge that denied her bail? This is strange.

I would have thought civil rights groups would have taken this matter up.

If those convicted feel the judgement is too harsh, they can appeal against the severity of the sentence.

So a few persons came together for a meeting in public. Why were they apprehended? Were they seen to commit any crime?

I don't understand why she was arrested. If someone is offended by her statements, that person should sue in a civil court. This is not a criminal issue.

Corporate responsibility should be encouraged, but not enforced. Does the company not pay taxes and levies to the federal, state and local governments. What are the state and local governments doing for the community? What is the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs doing for the community? What is the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) doing for the community?

The purpose of any business is to make profit. The company cannot afford to employ unqualified persons or ghost workers. Even if there are a few qualified persons in the community, they are still expected to go through the normal employment process (vacancy, application, interview).

What purpose is to be achieved in preventing people from speaking or listening to indigenous languages? We cannot all have the same taste for films. Some of us prefer Nigerian films; some prefer foreign films; others prefer a mixture of both.

The argument, that "the development is capable of destroying the indigenous film industry", is weak. Foreign films in English have not prevented or suppressed Nigerian films in English.

Foreign films being dubbed and broadcast in indigenous languages provides employment for indigenous language interpreters.

I don't understand why there should be crisis in the Senate over confirmation or rejection of an appointment. That is their job. They have the right to reject even a competent candidate without giving reasons. If the senators vote on the issue and the majority says "no", the Senate should simply move on.

It is left for the presidency to resubmit the candidate or appoint another person for confirmation.

The federal government should ask itself why several Nigerians ship their cars to Cotonou rather than Lagos. Car importers would prefer to minimize cost wherever possible. If the cost of clearing cars were standard and at a cost similar to that of Benin Republic, our ports would get much more patronage. In addition, clearing of cars should not be cumbersome and should be achieved within the shortest time possible.

Banning car importation through the land borders is not likely to work; there is no point in making rules that cannot be enforced.

I think the Junior Secondary Certificate Examination (JSCE) should be scrapped. It is a waste of time and resources. I am yet to see any advertised job in which the junior school certificate qualification is acceptable.

The only subjects that should be made compulsory at secondary school certificate level are English Language, Mathematics and one science subject.

This is the real issue. In Nigeria, the driving licence is not categorized into automatic or manual. If we had such categories, with the above-mentioned restriction on the automatic licence, then each driver would know his or her place, and there would be no need for argument.

Regardless of his status as a rapper, if those comments are really from CDQ, then it is rather unfortunate.
