Those top defenders lfc and City signed will go on injury and the team still won't be drinking goals like that. Our defenders have more defensive work to do than other defenders in top clubs. Check out defensive stats on the epl website, you will see that City and LFC defenders are almost never featured in the top 20 for each defensive stat.

I think Patrick already answered that question already.

It has more to do with coordination and organisation of the defence and team's play especially when we press, teams like City and Pool have good organisation and well defined style of play that when you remove one player from City's team another player comes in and does the job perfectly like the other player never left.
