Why isn't Shekarau a frontline candidate!! The guy knows the issues and he is very coherent!! He had the best answer on power, very similar to the Jonathan solution!! Ribadu just talks, Buhari has said nothing so far!! I see Buhari's ratings going down after this debate! Same as Jonathan!! Shekarau on the other hand would see a surge!!

I don't even know how someone will think GEJ will get more than 40% of the SE votes with Akwa Nbom PDP decamping to ACN. You be mumu, you think Oshiomole will support GEJ's ambition? Based on what? Yes GEJ will get some votes in Edo but will be less than 30%.

You will be surprised when votes start rolling in - PDP will not get 40% of SE votes except if they rig.
Your ignorance would disappoint you hard and bad on election day!!! The bolded parts left me wondering why I bothered responding to your other post!!! Stark ignorance!!

Wadeoye:
You guys are deceiving yourself. How on earth will somebody think Buhari will not get 25% of Plateau state? It is on record that Buhari won the presidential election in Ogun state in 2007. Those that voted for him the are still there and will still vote him even Bakare is not his running.

Tell me a state in South West were Buhari will not get 25% percent. You guys should even be thinking of how Buhari will not lead in South West.

I can assure whoever cares to listen, Buhari will likely lead in all Northern states - 19 states and he will win in some South Western states. Nothing can change that except rigging. I am from the South West and I can tell whoever cares to listen that Buhari is the candidate to beat here - Ribadu is only popular in Lagos because of ACN.
Ignorance sha!! Wadeoye, I'm pretty sure you've never traveled out of your state, so your perception naturally would be very narrow!! What do you know about Plateau? Or Benue or Taraba?? Or Kogi?? These are northern states mind you with majority Christian populations!! The major thing on the mind of many in these region is to finally get rid of Hausa Fulani dominance, something the CPC and Buhari represent! Buhari would have a problem getting 25% in the southwest for 2 reasons! The CPC has no structures so they would hardly get votes from the rural areas. Secondly they have to contend with 2 very popular parties in the region which is PDP and ACN!!
PoliticsTunde Bakare's Explosive Interview: "I Will Soon Expose Ribadu"! by PapaBrowne(op): 10:00pm On Mar 13, 2011
Pastor Adeboye told me to run with Buhari

Vows to 'open up on Ribadu soon'

FIERY Lagos State-based cleric and Vice- Presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Pastor Babatunde “Sindiku” Bakare yesterday disclosed that he secured the approval of one of his spiritual fathers, the respected Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, before throwing his hat into the political ring.

Pastor Bakare also gave indications that he was not convinced of the anti-corruption credentials of one of his former allies, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, who is the presidential candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (CAN).

Bakare, the Serving Overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly (LRA), told a group of journalists that he would “open up” on Ribadu sometime soon.

Recently, incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan, who is the candidate of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP), visited Pastor Adeboye’s camp on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway and received the blessings of the General Overseer of the fast-growing Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), in a much-publicised photograph showing the president kneeling for prayers before the Man of God.

But Bakare, who at various times was a prominent cleric of Pastor William Kumuyi’s Deeper Christian Life Assembly and the RCCG, before founding the LRA, disclosed that Adeboye encouraged him to run with Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.

The fiery cleric, who said that he was reluctant to run for political office, explained that he was ambushed by prominent people, including Pastor Adeboye, after Gen. Buhari had made overtures to him to be running mate.

He spoke in Lagos yesterday while explaining his vision and mission for Nigerians to a group of journalists.

The CPC Vice Presidential candidate said that when he first told Pastor Adeboye of Buhari’s offer during a telephone call, the reaction he got was favourable.

His words “Pastor Adeboye surprised me. I thought he would say ‘no way!’ He asked who among the lot I thought could rescue Nigeria and I told him Gen.Muhammadu Buhari. I noted that Buhari he has no money and no network to come to the South, coupled with other things they had hung on his neck. Pastor Adeboye said, ‘if you are ever considering Gen. Buhari, then you need a strong Christian to be his running mate.’ But when I called Pastor Adeboye back, he said since you did not lobby for this thing, it is an opportunity for you to express the burden you carry for this nation, go forward. And I asked: ‘Sir, will you support me?’ And he said, ‘with everything I got in my own way. Just go for it, I will be praying.”

Bakare said that he had earlier suggested the names of former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory , (FCT), Mallam Nazir el Rufai and former governor of Cross River State, Mr. Donald Duke, to run as president and vice- presidential candidates respectively. But he said Duke declined the offer immediately for some personal reasons.”

He continued: “We were now left with el Rufai who advised that we pick Nuhu Ribadu. I told him immediately that we rejected Nuhu Ribadu for reasons that were known to us at that point in time. You will be doing so many things and come to explain so many things. We decided to pair el-Rufai with Oby Ezekwesili. There are some things I know, that when the time permits, I will expose them.”

Bakare said that el-Rufai, however, declined to run because he would be seen as engaged in a contest with Ribadu.

The cleric said that he queried the presidential aspiration of Ribadu from the very beginning. Recalling a forum of the Save Nigeria Group (SNG) in the United Kingdom where Ribadu announced interest in the president’s seat, Bakare said his reaction was one of bewilderment.

His words: ‘You want to rule Nigeria? Who will be your subjects?’ I asked him. And he drove me to my hotel room that day and we spent two hours in his car. I began to lay the things before him that were wrong.”

Apparently questioning Ribadu’s anti-graft credential, Bakare said: “And all this anti-corruption ‘Czar’?
We have stories that we can tell, but we will keep quiet now until the appropriate time.”

He continued: “I had thought that my job was to raise the standard of God’s consciousness in our nation and to ensure that righteousness exalts this nation by way of preaching it, leaving the fear of God in the minds of people and much more modeling it. I have been harassed myself by military dictators and their civilian counterparts in mufti. But I never thought that I would do this. The last time I marched on the streets was in 1978, until January 2010 and that was in the days of ‘Ali Must Go’. And all that happened then was over the increase in meal ticket from N30 to N90. That was killing those days, not now that the naira can hardly buy anything. When I left school, I thought marching on the streets had ended until the crisis that almost took Nigeria to precipice.

Disclosing why he decided to join politics, Bakare said: “On 3rd of May, 2010 during one of our meetings, one of my friends raised a pertinent question, that; ‘are we raising responsible people to vote for irresponsible people?’ That word struck me like thunderbolt. That was the turning point for me”.

He continued: We engaged the political leaders on what should be the minimum requirement for our political office holders. I met with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar twice and we also met with President Jonathan Ebele Goodluck Azikiwe who I call JEGA 2. We gave him some documents and some of these documents were passed on to some religious leaders like Pastor Adeboye. (The documents detail) why we would not support Jonathan. We listed three or four things; that the culture of impunity that we fought for had returned”.

Bakare contended that those who hold the view that he lacked political weight should note others did not build their political structures in one day either.

The fiery preacher noted that for much of his adult life, he had been shouting on the rooftop on the need for an improvement in the lot of Nigerians, adding that the failure to heed his call that led him into politics.

His words: “During the last one man, one vote rally at Onikan, I was there with all my children. One man said that I was taking a great risk, and I asked if those people they were mobilising to come out during protests were not born by someone. The zeal for good governance and egalitarian society has consumed me, I am ready to swim or sink with the Nigerian project.”

Honest analysis!!
And it actually exposes the stupidity of the opposition!! Why was it so hard for the CPC and ACN to merge?? The personal egos of Buhari and Tinubu always rule over the interest of the nation!!
Truth is PDP has this election in their kitty without resorting to rigging!! They have the structures, money and spread in addition to an extremely popular incumbent in Goodluck Jonathan!!

PoliticsPdp Govt Is Corrupt, Shouldn’t The Military Just Takeover Like Buhari Did In 83? by PapaBrowne(op): 7:29pm On Mar 13, 2011
Everybody says this PDP Government is corrupt! Everywhere from the seat of power to the lowest worker in a Local Government office all have some corruption in their blood!! The opposition parties have been screaming PDP is corrupt!! The corruption that necessitated the takeover of the military in 1983 wasn’t anywhere near the corruption that goes on in this country right now!! It is more than 1000 times worse off! That was enough to bring the military in!!
Now, since we all say the PDP government is corrupt, wouldn’t it just be cool if some young military officers just bulldoze their way into Aso Rock and push out this corruption??

Never, never!!!. I’m pretty sure we will all march to Aso Rock  to evict whatever Military government decides to takeover power!! We will use every weapon in our capacity, be it prayer, throwing stones, strikes or jungle justice to evict and eventually convict any officer  who ventures near Aso Rock in the name of eradicating corruption!! We are wiser these days, we will never let it happen again!! Infact the law allows for coup plotters to be given the maximium sentence allowed by the constitution which is capital punishment!

Now this brings me to my point! Buhari did exactly this in 1983!! We had a democratically elected Government  headed by Shagari who was said to be corrupt! The country had just undergone an election which the same Shagari/Ekwueme had won!! The citizens did not revolt against their victory! They seemed to accept it! But Buhari and his fellow officers in their unbridled quest  for power, overthrew the Government!
Nigeria afterwards was sent into a state of destruction and for the next 16 years suffered massive oppression and depression which we are still seeking to overcome!! The torment of the military era still till date has a negative effect  on the psyche of Nigerians!

During the Buhari regime, he promulgated a decree that retroactively sentenced drug dealers to death! Drug dealers that committed crimes before the decree came into being were sentenced to death by Buhari! Since we all agree that any coup plotter should face the maximum penalty wouldn’t it be ok then to make the law retroactive such that Buhari and every other coup plotter be tried for truncating our fresh democracy? If that democracy was allowed to survive by now Nigeria would have had an excellent system in place! But Buhari destroyed it on the flimsy excuse of corruption! If it was Ok then, why not now! If it is bad now, why not then!!
PoliticsRe: Vice Presidential Debate - What Do You Think As You Watch by PapaBrowne(m): 8:47pm On Mar 12, 2011
Delta007:
Dazangel has a point. These folks are pulling a blinder and some of you folks are applauding.SMH. None of these candidates have been able to articulate a plan to move Nigeria forward. Every one of them have either used the opportunity to criticise PDP or to promise to get milk and honey flowing for free. Any Tom in Timbuktu can do just that - blab empty promises to get into office. The main question is "how". But guess what? Alot of Nigerians (as exhibited on this forum) are applauding a group of individuals because they criticised a PDP led govt and promised to give Nigerians a better life. This is what any reasonable politician would do; lies, promises, etc. For instance, everyone of them will tell you "we will solve the electricity crisis and provide jobs for people". Ask them how they intend to do it  and how long it would take their plan to mature and watch them fibble (and lie even more). The fact is that these parties have very little (or no) difference in ideologies. PDP has been wise to back out of these "debates" because it would probably be a debate of attacks rather than a debate of who's plan is better. I'm not saying PDP is a better party or have better candidates but from a standpoint of being in the pole position, they do not have to stoop to exchange words. Most of you (and even candidates like Bakare) throwing tantrums at Sambo for not showing up will be less inclined to do so if you had such an advantage. This is politics in Nigeria. I'm sure some of you watched the Lagos "debate". How many plans were carefully articulated there? Can anyone tell me any difference in idealogies between the parties? Everyone had the usual promises but no depth in implementation. Can you imagine a gubernatorial candidate saying he'd build houses without cement?  grin Most of the time, the other candidates verbally attacked Fashola. Fashola on the other hand, I thought was woeful, but with shallow candidates by his sides, he was a star. I'm glad the "debate" held to show Nigerians how shallow some of these politicians are; they are the same ones trying to pull a blinder for the Presidential elections.

Some of you yakking here lack basic understanding of how the Nigerian electorial process works. When PDP wins, most would say the election was rigged. However, with only a few weeks to a presidential election, if you do a simple research, you'd find out that PDP have done better overall "leg work" than any other party in the country. They have gone into so many rural areas to drum up votes; yes, people live in rural areas and are eligible to vote, not just Lagos and Abuja. Other parties think they can win the Nigerian election on the internet or on TV (I laugh in Hausa). A significant number of people in Nigeria do not even have electricity to watch TV or go online. If these parties cannot go to rural areas to even lie to them to get their votes, how are they going to cater for these folks when they get into office? People like Bakare are just making noise about not trusting Jega. The fact is, every party will try to rig the election in their favour (that's Nigeria for you); however, parties are only able to rig elections where they are strong; that's simple common sense. PDP will not be successful in rigging an election in Lagos just as ACN will not be successful in rigging the polls in Kaduna.

People should open their eyes and start asking these folks about their so-called mandates are and how they plan to accomplish them. I've gone through most campaign sites (where one would think the candidates would have a more detailed plan) and nothing suggests that they'd be any different from the current administration. Methinks that some of them are a disaster waiting to happen, if they ever get into office. As my Warri people would say, shine your eye well well and do not let anyone confuse you with grammer.

Quite frankly, there's no party (or candidate) I can recommend. What I know for sure is that if this current govt is voted out, the new govt (no matter how genuine their intentions are) will not be effective enough to do anything till around their third year in office and then they'd have to restart their campaign for a second term. Can Nigerians sustain another three years of inactivity? Dunno but do not blame a new government  for being ineffective in its early years. GEJ and his people have not been able to do anything  substantial and he has been in power for less than a year. This is the Nigerian way of doing things; you get into power, clear house and you have to pay hommage to the several pockets of power houses in the country (there's nothing you can do about it). Like I usually say, with the way our failed system is set up, even Moses will have big problems leading Nigerians to the promised land (wherever that is).
Excellent piece!!

@PapaBrowne

Now you are beginning to see why some of US can and won't vote for GEJ? excuses here and there, is he trying to say he just heard of the debate? so the useless campaigns they say virtually the same things on is more important than a debate that's going to be aired worldwide?
Lets wait till the day of the debate! I still believe they will show up!

As much as possible, I try to be objective! Jonathan would have no reasonable excuse to avoid a debate that would be anchored by someone as professional as Jonathan Mann!! No silly excuse like tight campaign schedule would cut it on this one!! Thats flimsy!

However, nothing would make me blind enough to cast my vote for a known dictator/socialist/extremist who through a coup truncated Nigeria's democracy and oppressed and demoralised the true nigerian spirit of freedom and dexterity!!
PoliticsRe: Pdp Opts Out Of Presidential Debate by PapaBrowne(m): 10:20am On Mar 11, 2011
Naah!! This is not Good at all!! He should go and attend the debate!! Anybody looking to lead the country shouldn't shudder at the prospect of defending himself from attack by his opponents no matter the callousness and uncultured nature of the attacks!

If Jonathan and Sambo don't attend this debate I would either sit at home on election day or or use my vote for the next best candidate which is Ribadu!!!

My belief though is that towards the day of the debate, probably on the 17th, the President's camp will announce their willingness to  debate!! It is a time tested strategy to disarm your enemies!! Two ways- 1)Keep them guessing 2)Give them the opportunity to underestimate your capabilities!!

Obama used this strategy effectively and hopefully that is what the Jonathan camp is trying to do!! If he fails to attend this debate on the flimsy excuse that he has campaigning to do. . . . . . . hmmmmm!!!

http://www.lagostimes.com/2011/03/08/acn-plane-in-forced-landing-fola-adeola-escapes-death/

The Vice Presidential candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Fola Adeola, and other party chieftains narrowly escaped death yesterday at the Bauchi Airport in Bauchi.
The accident occurred when the chartered airplane conveying Mr. Adeola and chieftains of the ACN including the Deputy National Chairman of the party, Boss Mustapha; and Yusuf Alli, former National Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party; crash landed due to non clearance of the airport runway by airport authorities.
The runway which had been taken over by rams and goats, was not cleared which caused the pilot of the aircraft with number 5BN-BNR to do a forced-landing, damaging the aircraft in the process. The accident occurred at about 12.00noon
The plane conveying the ACN presidential candidate, Nuhu Ribadu, and other leader leaders of the party had to hover in the air for about an hour before the runway to be cleared.
The party chieftains were attending the ACN presidential rally scheduled for Bauchi today.
The Director of Media and publicity of the Nuhu Ribadu Campaign Organisation, Ibrahim Modibbo who confirmed the report condemned said his orgainsation suspected sabotage.
“We suspect sabotage and as a matter of urgency we call for an investigation into the immediate and remote cause of the runway invasion,” Modibbo stated.
“If not for the expertise of the pilot, we would probably not be saying what we are saying today.
“Is it possible for President Jonathan who is also the Presidential candidate of the PDP to be involved in such a situation where the runway he is to land on will be filled by rams, which could have been controlled?” Modibbo said
Mr. Modibbo said the Nuhu Ribadu Campaign Organisation was not asking the PDP government to do it a special favour by guaranteeing safety and security in our airports. “What we are saying is that no life is more important than the other. Before the present PDP government is booted out by the people, they should at least ensure that our airports, our roads , and our towns and villages are safe enough for everyone including our candidates and particularly during this electioneering period,” he said.
What kind of sabotage!! This kind of talk is annoying! Why would anybody want to cause harm to any of the candidates when that would definitely be counter productive! These kind of near mishaps occur quite frequently in Nigeria!! My advice to ACN is next time while you travel, use your influence to make adequate preparations before landing! That's what the President does!!
My heartfelt sympathies for the trauma experienced!!
