I wonder why the elementary ability to write essays should list as a 'presidential' asset. If you're referring to the sensationalized write-ups on facebook, it's written by some paid, deluded team of a vision-starved 'build-up Nigeria project.' Your best step to rid your dear country of the PDP disease is to vote CPC or ACN. To ensure that your vote is not forgotten in the statistics of electoral history, vote CPC; BB holds the better chance.
Obama won the elections because of his great speeches! If great essays inspire the poster to vote, beaurrifull!! One of the key components of leadership is ability to inspire be it in speeches, essays or mere gesticulations!! |
Blazing99:Vice President na spare tyre!! The only reason he selected Bakare was to help him win Christian votes thats all!! If they smell Aso Rock, Bakare would probably be just that= A spare tyre, until . . . . . . . . just like Jonathan!! |
GenBuhari:Buhari ruled Nigeria from January 1st 1984 to August 27th 1985. The inflation for 1984, the only complete year Buhari spent in power was the about the highest the nation had ever seen throughout its existence at 39%. That 1985 experienced dramatic reduction in inflation can be attributed to Babangida for all I care as he took over power and initiated new policies that were pretty favorable until 1988 when the SAP effect began to hit!! You can't give Buhari sole credit for 1985 when he spent just about half the year as president. He should take full responsibility for 1984. The diagram below shows how the PDP government we loathe so much grew our economy astronomically since 1999. Nigeria's GDP shrunk under the Buhari Government and you can see it also from the diagram.
|
GenBuhari:I have done my research Mr! You provide me with ur own proof and I will gladly vote for the General. I was almost getting persuaded to vote Buhari until I watched the NN24 debate! |
GenBuhari:Everything you wrote here GenBuhari na lie!! You can do better than this!! Buhari didn't build any refineries please. The first refinery was bulit in 1965 by shell. Warri refinery was commisioned in 1978. Kaduna Refinery was Commissioned in 1980. The second PH refinery was commissioned by Babangida in 1989. So I don't know where U are getting your info fro. Ministers of Petroluem don't build refineries please!!! He reduced inflation by 80% I wish you knew economics. Steep reduction in inflation is one sure sign of austerity and a declining economy.Almost stamped out corruption Nope!! More like he opened the gates for the advent of massive looting by taking over from a democratically elected Government.Buhari did not build any roads as head of state! Not a single road was built in his time! Not a single infrastructure development was executed in his time as head of state. As PTF chairman, he took the money from the Niger Delta and used it to build Northern Roads at a time Abacha had just killed Ken Saro Wiwa. Thats exactly why you see the crowds restricted only to the core northern Nigeria!! Please just name one project Buhari executed in his time as head of state!! All he did that we remember him for is that he bullied Nigerians with his War Against Indiscipline!! |
GenBuhari:What can Buhari do?? You know the man was clueless on the day of the debate right?? If you can show me one road Buhari constructed during his time as Head of State, then I will vote for him. Don't tell me about PTF, becuase it would only further expose his bias as the roads he constructed were restricted to the core North!! At least we know that Babangida in all his corruption built the third mainland Bridge. |
Kobojunkie:^^^^ Your IQ is questionable!! You need self development classes!! Below is what you call logical thinking and intelligent reasoning!! Pharoh: |
Bawss1:There are many projects that have been initiated by others but never left the drawing board. It is the one who executes the project that gets the gredit. Jonathan could as well have dumped the project in the dustbin. |
jensinmi:This is an inaugural display train. It stopped at every train station and had a fanfare, thats the reason for the time lag! Asides, even if it takes a full day from Lagos to Ibadan, the simple fact that there is progress should be commended. If you had any idea how this could affect cargo logistics and reduce the cost of goods, you would be amazed. Below is an article of yet another Rail project that the FG (Warri- Ajaokuta which would eventually be extended to Abuja) is constructing which would be completed this year. It is a modern standard gauge rail line. Warri-Ajaokuta train services to commence |
How many igbos get liver to go out on friday talk more of election day in those core northern states?? many posters are in a daylight illusory movie. Ignorance is worst than death. Keep wishing today's date is the year 1945.
Is that a confirmation that Buhari's CPC voters are violence personified and would be in the waiting to "lynch" any Igbo voters that venture out to vote for GEJ?? Would that be a response to Buhari's call to lynch "elections riggers" which those illiterate Almajiri's have naturally assume to be any Igbo that votes against Buhari?? My guy, isn't your position just enough reason why no non Hausa should find himself in the Buhari camp?? Pathetic reasoning in the face of reality!! |
PhysicsMHD:And neither is Ilaje Yoruba!! |
This is great news!! I think Jonathan is doing a lot of work but isn't publicizing his efforts properly. Recently, there was some construction going on somewhere on the outskirts of Warri and it looked different from a normal road construction. So I hard to ask what project it was. I was told it is the railway station for the Warri- Ajaokuta line that would connect Warri to Abuja. I was shocked because I hadn't read of any such thing in the papers, so I wondered why the Jonathan government isn't using the press effectively to communicate to the people the projects it is engaging in!! Fashola hasn't started building the Light Rail project but all Lagosians know about it!! Jonathan has been working on the railways but nobody heard about it. All in all this is great news!! We need more of this!! |
The trains are back By Ifedayo Adabayo March 23, 2011 05:59PM print email Efforts to revive the Nigerian railways network got off this morning after a free train service for the public chugged off at the Iddo rail station, Lagos at 9.35am. The trip, earlier scheduled to span between Lagos and Ilorin, Kwara State, will now terminate in Ibadan, Oyo State, due to technical glitches on a part of the rail track. The train has eight coaches. After 15 minutes stop over to pick security and some staff of the corporation at Alagomeji rail station, the train, moving at a slow speed reached Mushin around 10am. Though many people trooped out to confirm the news of the service, tens of passengers and six journalists finally made the trip. The VIP section, where journalists are placed, is a 98-passenger fully air conditioned coach, with fans, television and other conveniences provided. Passengers however berate the change of direction from Ilorin to Ibadan and urge the railway corporation to work more on its timing. Some more passengers joined at the Agbado station, and the train now has about 20 passengers on board. The track is noisy, and makes conversation hard. 11:00am: The train is now at the Opo Suru station in Ijoko. The tracks here are newly fixed and it has not been passed in years, except for construction purposes. About 50 passengers joined the service at Ijoko station. 12:00pm: Passengers expressed views that the speed of the train makes the journey better than road one. Farmers and villagers along the route come near the track to wave at passing train. 12.30pm: Spokesman of the Nigerian Railways Corporation, David Ndanusa said the last time a commercial train service ran on the track was years ago. Train now at Abese station: Buildings at the station are all locked up and the place is desolate. Train has, for some minutes been passing through several kilometers-long sugar plantation. Now passing by Ewekoro Cement factory. We sight several trailers packed within its premises to transport cement, something the train could now do more efficiently. 12:48pm: Three hours into the journey, train leaves Itori station for Abeokuta. There had been stops at every station along the way. 13:00pm: Train stops at the popular Wasinmi railway station. Excited townspeople trooped to the station to catch sight of the train 13:50pm: Train now at the Aro railway station, Abeokuta. There is a functional Nigerian Railways Corporation residential quarters here, with many staff of the corporation still living there 15:30pm: The train, Sultan of Sokoto, is now at Ilugun; halfway between Abeokuta and Ibadan, its destination. Many more passengers came on borad along the way. Poor telecommunications service between the Abeokuta station and Ilugun. 17:00pm: Train now at Omi Adio, a village in Ibadan. People were visibly surprised to see the train. Huge numbers trooped to the station to wave it along. 17:15pm: As the train rolls into Ibadan, crowds of people ran alongside the track shouting ‘welcome back train'. 17:39 pm: Seven hours and 24 minutes after it left Lagos, the train arrives at the Ibadan railway station http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/News/National/5685052-146/the_trains_are_back__.csp

^^^^^ I agree!! |
danjohn:This same way majority of Buhari supporters (those in the crowds) are clamouring for Buhari for the simple fact that tribally speaking, he is one of them!! If it were for intergrity, they surely wouldn't celebrate a Southerner with even more integrity than Buhari. Truth is ethnicity and religion are the strongest factors in Nigerian politics and it isn't going to change anytime soon. Even in the USA, race is a still a strong factor in politcis and the economy. That doesn't say I support it though, it is just plain backward!! |
40% is high for the whole of Kano state. I would suppose something in the region of 25%. Most Igbos in Kano are located in Kano City, hence giving them 40% of the whole state would mean they constitute much more than half of all the votes in the city. That can't be accurate. However, Igbos by a large margin are the second largest ethnic group in any city in Nigeria after the indigenous groups. Their size is definitely capable of turning the tables in any tight election. There was a legitimate report that came out from El Rufai that posited that Igbos own 73% of all landed properties in Abuja. With this, there is the strong possibility that this report reflects even if not accurately, the numerical strength of the Igbos in the North and their capacity to tilt the tide in the election to further give Jonathan an even smoother coast to victory!!! aisha2:Using a simple statistical sampling would do the magic. Randomly select a specific number of names from different polling stations and count the number of Igbo names listed. Igbos always have an Igbo names. That would give you a fairly accurate result form where you can make assumptions. So the article is not totally baseless except that the figures assumed for Igbos is way too high!! |
We don't want probes, we want power!! Its only people that have no idea how to fix a problem that would see the solution in a probe!! Yar Adua started a probe of the power sector and we ended up wasting years! This man is too clueless. This answer was in response to the question 'How would you solve the lingering power problem". Probing the past can never be a solution to a today's nagging problem. Please we want power and Jonathan has the best solution for power amongst all the candidates and that is why I am voting for him. Privatize the damn thing and see us get more than the power we need in a very short time. That is exactly what happened in the telecoms sector!!! From 400,000 lines to 85 million lines in less than 10 years!! That's the miracle that would solve the power problem!! |
You were doing good until u blundered with the above. Corruption staunches development. There can never be the "desired" level of development in a society as perversely corrupt as the one yall got in Nigeria. "Infrastructural Development would be handed over to the private sector" ?. ROFLMAO. Who in his right mind would wanna do business in such an unfriendly climate where bribes are required every 3 seconds. Dude, a vote for GEJ is begging that Nigeria be on the same ranking as places like Equitorial Guinea or Bangladesh!
You've asked a good question for once. And I have only one answer. MTN, GLO, AIRTEL are doing business in such an unfriendly environment where bribes are required every three seconds., And a host of other investors are lining up like its a gold rush!! FYI, MTN made sales of over $5 billion in Nigeria and made 5 times more profits than the behemoth called Facebook made in 2009. Anybody that wouldn't want to do business in such a country would have himself to blame!! |
I dont see Nuhu Ribadu, having any problems with the "Complex political landscape" he will find in Abuja, This so called "Complex landscape" is fueled by corruption and insensitivity to the needs of the average Nigerian. What he offers is a break from the norm, with Nuhu Ribadu its no more "business as usual". I support and believe in the Ribadu/Adeola ticket, for the sake of our children unborn, for the love of humanity, for the common good, and for a secured & bright future.Lets do a scenario analysis! Imagine for a moment that after Ribadu/Adeola become president, the militants return to the creeks and start blowing up pipelines and reduce our oil production to near zero, limiting the capacity of the FG to deliver on its promises. Now can you give me a picture on how these two non-political types would seek to handle it?? You would be needing the strong men of the Niger Delta (most of whom are extremely corrupt) to prevail on the militants to sheath their swords! Are they capable of commandeering the respect of these strong men?? These are real questions and it can be applied to many facets of the problems we face!! My fear us that on getting to Abuja, these two men would realise the mess that the country is and would succumb to the mess!! |
He is a highly intelligent fellow! Many folks insulting him here don't have one tenth of his intelligence! The fact that he is a Jonathan supporter and you are not doesn't in any way take away or reduce his intelligence!! In fact, one interesting thing I find with most Buhari supporters (I assume the core subject of this thread is Beaf's support for Jonathan) is their inability to reason objectively without including their sentimental hatred for the Jonathan and the PDP. Most of these lack in-depth logical thinking capabilities hence are quick to resort to name calling and abuse !! |
The sad and honest reality is that the other parties are not too different from the PDP. ACN has shown its hand in Tinubu. CPC is relatively unknown and as we've come too see is really just a regional party. ANPP is the same as PDP. The politicians are all the same. PDP is the worst because they control state resources. As per the individuals, we are faced with candidates that all have their weaknesses and some strengths. The best team in terms of knowledge and capacity like you said is the Ribadu/ Adeola team. They would probably initiate the best programs but their capacity to deliver would be hampered by the complex political landscape they would find in Abuja. Suddenly, they would find themselves having to learn on the job which isn't good for a country desperately in need of change. Buhari/Bakare have the will and determination but from the debate I watched have no idea what the real problems of this country are. Buhari's responses on the solution to the Niger Delta, Power and Education were more than pathetic. However, he has the advantage of a desire to tackle corruption in government, but he will be faced with a massive uprising in the Niger Delta because of his sanctimonious rigidity and this would hamper his capacity to deliver any projects or even attract foreign investments. Jonathan/ Sambo team has the advantage of both the Niger Delta and the power sector reforms. Corruption would probably thrive in governance, but the country would definitely experience economic growth and prosperity. Infrastructure development would probably be handed over to the private sector which I think is excellent. Shekarau is the most intelligent of all of them, has the best grasp on Governance, but surely cannot win the elections. In my opinion, any of the winners would bring something to the table which I think puts us in a better place than the 2007 elections!! |
Excellent, Excellent, Excellent!! DanJohn thanks for the effort!! Your intelligence is unquestionable! However I would beg to differ on some of the postulations!! 1) Kano:This assumption is pretty faulty. Shekarau has some degree of popularity in his home state and would surely be scoring more than the 15% votes you've accorded him. I would posit something in the range of 30%. 2) NW excluding Kano:One key factor omitted here. And that is the Kaduna factor. Kaduna has about 20% of all the registered voters in the North West. Also Kaduna has the highest population of southerners in all of the Northern states. Thirdly, the southern Kaduna factor and also, the Sambo facor should not be ignored. 3) NC excluding Benue:The Jos crises is a key factor that was absent in the running to 2003 and is an influential decider in 2011. 4) EdoThere is no way Ribadu is scoring 34% in Edo state. When the incumbent Governor is not running for elections, his impact on the electorate is reduced. I visit Edo state pretty much and can say categorically that Jonathan would sweep the state by a much larger margin. But overall, excellent analysis. The most influential factors in this election are Religion and Finance. Rural Voters Many Nairalanders forget that the highest amount of voters reside in rural areas (about 70%) and these ruralites have a very different way of assessing performance. Corruption is not one of their measures. Infrastructure development isn't either. Neither is jobs and economic development. Their key mode of assessment is the politician that visits their village just before the elections to hand them cash and items like t shirts ,rice, umbrellas, mobile phones and biscuits with the politicians pictures slapped on the package. PDP understands Nigerian politics and thats why they keep winning elections. The opposition failed the moment their selfishness prevented them from merging. CPC's biggest undoing would be its lack of reach in the rural areas of the South West and middle belt. PDP has gone rural. They are moving from village to village distributing cash and items and the villagers are happy and would be putting their fingers anywhere they see " |
hercules07:If by "North" you mean the North West with its 19 million voters, then fine. However, the North constitutes the North West, North East and North Central and collectively they have 39 million voters. I've been around many of these northern states and I can tell you categorically how different Taraba is from say Zamfara or Kebbi. Taraba, Adamawa, Plateau, Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Nassarawa and Southern Kaduna all belong in the same North. But they would be handing their support over largely to Jonathan and the PDP. If you want to know how strong PDP is in the South West, ask yourself how come such a large crowd of South Westerners went out to welcome Bode George on his arrival from prison. Or how come patience Jonathan was able to attract such a large crowd in her Ibadan rally. Or how come so many of the people vehemently supporting Jonathan both here on Nairaland and facebook are south westerners. This election would be toughly contested but the opposition would loose for their failure to build very effective campaign structures. |
Yesterday, I did a simple survey asking everyone I met both educated and uneducated if they watched the debate! The answer I got was "which debate"? I answered, the one on NN24. They said wetin be NN24?? They don't even know the station. But they all heard about the Dbanj interview and most of them thought it was kool. Okada riders and taxi drivers would vote Jonathan because they haven't bought fuel above 65 naira and it has never been scarce since he came in. All those using "I better pass my neighbor" generators for their barbing and hairdressing salons, tailoring shops, business centres etc all think Jonathan is a messiah!! Market women love his wife because she sounds like them. Very Religious christians think he is God sent! Let me just reel out a few statistics: *Nigeria is 70% rural and these ruralites constitute the real voters!! *All Nigerian newspapers put together sell less than 250,000 copies daily in a country of over 73.5 million voters. That means all the bad news about PDP isn't reaching a majority of Nigerians. *Only 30,000 people signed into Nairaland in the last one month and majority of them don't visit the politics section! Truth is Buhari is popular in the North west and on the internet, but his biggest undoing would be the inability of his party to reach out to the rural voters in the south west and middle belt. Illiterates vote with symbols and thats why PDP and ACN popularise their |
I will not advice anybody to risk his vote for Buhari!! This debate showed he has very little understanding of the current problems plaguing the country!! His answers on power, healthcare, education, Niger Delta and the Jos crises were pathetic!! Corruption is not the only problem plaguing this country! Buahri will make a good EFCC chairman, but surely not a president of this modern Nigeria!! Jonathan is a huge disappointment for not participating!! I might just consider Shekarau!! Ribadu just spoilt any chances he has left!! Buhari's rating would dip after today's performance. |
Shekarau- Excellent, strong on issues, understands Governance and very coherent!!! Scored points on all issues. His power sector approach is private sector driven which is very impressive!! Negatives- Couldn't find any really. He did a good job defending his Hisbah police even though I dont like them!! Ribadu- Not Good, only point was scored on power and private sector participation but his answers were too bland. He was too brash in his responses and his grasp on issues are poor. His coherence is fair, but his delivery style is bad!! Acts like he is in a fight! The debate exposed his capacity to flout laid down procedure!! Still like him though!! He will make a good minister in any government! Buhari Buhari was the most disappointing!! Sometimes I had to feel so sorry for him!! He obviously doesn't understand the issues plaguing Nigeria. His had no answers on Education, Power ,the Niger Delta and the econpomy. Doesn't look like someone that has drawn up a plan yet .His coherence is soo poor! His answers don't make sense. And he is obviously not very intelligent and hasn't done a lot of reading!! I like him and respect his integrity, but that surely isn't enough for a country this complex!! GEJ I have only one word for him- Zero!!! |
Buhari has no sensitivity for Christain farmers in jos!! He feels its ok for nomads to ramble through farms planted by the hard work of others!! This is sad!! |
Shekarau!! Shekarau!! Shekarau!! Shekarau!! You might just have my vote!! |
I'm feeling sorry for Buhari! I think he is a nice man but he is old and not up to the job!! He is not intelligent enough!! |
I might just vote Shekarau!!! The guy is goood!! Buhari cannot do nothing with his limited knowledge on issues!! I might just vote Shekarau!! Nice answer on zoning!! |
OOh Buhari, why are U disappointing ur followers!! Your grasp on issues is soo pooor!! Buhari can't change Nigeria like this!! |
On Education, Shekarau knows the issues!!! He is impressive!! He just keeeps impressing me!! |
