redsun: It is no different from the ancient egptians beliefs in osiris as the god of the after life, the underworld and the dead. And don't forget ancient egypyians culture, religion and beliefs predates Christianity by thousands of years and christ and said to have fled to Egypt as a child where he stayed for a while. Why you guys chose to remain blind and adamant to the truth is something that baffled me always.
TELL THEM. I'M AMAZED AND DAZED AT NIGERIANS' GULLIBILITY WHEN IT COMES TO RELIGIOUS MATTERS.

toshmann: u coulda done better by getting a more appropriate and less deceptive title for ur thread.

igbos are egalitarian. they came from many places. . . mainly from east africa. they came to a geographical location . . in present day eastern nigeria. . . and formed a culture and a language. we came from different places. that is why, amongst the igbos u find various sub-races . . . .the bantu (most common) and the sudan-like groups. . . tall dark, also we have light skinned (like fulanis) etc . . . . .

also in our history we have independent villages each with their leader(not a king) and the eze-in-council (the ndi-ichies and the ozos (kind of like parliament) etc this looks like the present day US where people came from different places to form a culture and have a way of life with no king but a king-like president and legislature

note: nobody truely knows the details of igbo ancestry

Achebe was already loosing his mind. His last published work portrayed his dark side - the tribalist that he was and which most Igbos are. He died in self-exile and self-pity, an embittered Biafran!

PoliticsRe: South African Wives Of Nigerians Protest In Johannesburg by Patsey: 1:50am On Mar 24, 2013
The fact that South African wives of Ghanaians, Liberians, Sierra Leoneans, etc are not protesting -- perhaps because they're not facing the degrading treatments their counterparts married to Nigerians -- speaks volume. Nigeria's image in South Africa, as is elsewhere around the world, is in tatters - thanks partly to Igbo fraudsters, human traffickers, pimps and drug pushers!

NEVER SAY NEVER! DON'T SAY I CAN NEVER RELOCATE FROM THE NORTH BACK TO YOUR HOME STATE/REGION. YORUBAS, IGBOS AND OTHER NON-NORTHERNERS RESIDING IN THE NORTH SHOULD DISBAND AND RETURN HOME. NORTHERNERS LIVING IN SOUTHERN NIGERIA SHOULD BE BRUTALLY SMOKED OUT: MAKE THEM RETURN HOME EMPTY HANDED OR SEND THEM TO THEIR EARLY GRAVES AS THEY'VE REPEATEDLY BEING DOING SINCE THE MID 1960s. PLEASE SHUT UP IF YOU'RE GONNA SAY DON'T PAY EVIL WITH EVIL. EVEN THE BIBLE SAYS AN EYE FOR AN EYE AND A TOOTH FOR A TOOTH.

This is one of the reasons why I've stayed away from that hell-hole and banana republic called Nigeria - where it's president (GEJ) is an slowpoke; its law enforcement agents, crooks; its shepherds, wolves; its surgeons, butchers; and its professors, slowpoke. I'll rather roast peacefully in Europe and die from the hands of the imbecilic, idiotic and trigger-happy NPF.

EducationRe: UNICAL Sacks 4 Lecturers And Demotes 10 For Plagiarism And Fraud by Patsey: 2:07pm On Mar 16, 2013
This is a very WELCOME step taken by the University of Calabar. The majority of Nigerian academics in Nigerian universities write shoddy papers or articles that would fail undergraduate essay assessments in European and North American universities. They then publish such shady works in dodgy journals and on the basis of such publications, secure academic appointments and promotions in State, Federal and private Nigerian universities. Here is a list of such fraudulent journals: http://scholarlyoa.com/publishers/

Many also publish their undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations as books with vanity presses such as Lambert Academic Publishing which also operates under the name of VDM Verlag and a host of others. It's a shame that Universities of Nigeria, Ibadan, Lagos, Ilorin and OAU as well as countless others have their academic staff publishing shoddy works with these vanity presses and journals. The Nigeria education system has truly gone to the dogs!

The way forward is to insist that Nigerian academics publish exclusively in A* - C rated journals housed with publishers such as Taylor & Francis, Elsevier, Springer as well as Journals published by leading University Presses in UK, other Western European countries, USA, Canada, Australia and South Africa. Period. Nigerian University Presses, in terms of peer-review integrity, are stone-dead.

PoliticsRe: All Those Glorious Years We Spent in Nigeria - A Ghanaian Experience by Patsey:
Just reading this today and I must confess, this is one of the most brilliant posts on NL. Sadly, however, it's a portrait of Nigeria's good old days which could be likened to the Psalmists recall of Zion in the following words "By the rivers of Babylon we sat and wept when we remembered Zion" (Psalm 137: 1). I strongly identify with the author's portrayal of Nigeria in the late 70s and 80s when I was taught by teachers from Ghana and Indian with a few Nigerian thrown in between. These foreign teachers undoubtedly knew their stuff and they delivered it! I benefited from their brilliancy as I made my straight As in my Ordinary Level and Advanced Level papers. I subsequently earned my bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees in one of the subjects the Ghanaian teachers taught me in school. Today, Nigeria's gone to the dogs. Mediocrity and incompetence is all we currently celebrate and venerate. Shame! Currently living and working in Europe, I contemplate returning home every day, but too scared to take the plunge!
CareerAny University Lecturers In The House? by Patsey(op): 7:05pm On Mar 13, 2013
If you are a lecturer in any of the Nigerian universities (Federal or State), please do share with me on this thread, what the monthly take home of a newly appointed Lecturer 1 or Lecturer 2 would be. Thanks for your kind help and assistance. Pat.
PoliticsRe: Nigerians Mark Awolowo’s Posthumous Birthday by Patsey: 1:00pm On Mar 07, 2013
Annual posthumous birthday? Increasingly, this is becoming the veneration of the dead. I hope it doesn't, in the final analysis, translates into deifying of Awolowo. In principle (apparently not in practicum), this is how Ogun and Sango worship started centuries ago. So, the Anglican church, particularly Remo Diocese, the Diocesan and Priests, who are seemingly soiling their hands through this annual rites, should watch it!
CrimeWhat Is Wrong With Africans? by Patsey(op): 11:37am On Mar 07, 2013
North Africans (e.g. Egyptians, Moroccans, Libyans, etc) treat sub-Sahara Africans with ignominy. Present day sub-Sahara Africans, like our ancestors who sold their fellow men and women from another tribe or nation into slavery, treat each other like excrement. Today, one major problem facing Africa and Africans is that whilst our leaders are busy squandering, siphoning and depositing Africa’s wealth in Europe, North America and, more recently, in the Middle East (particularly Dubai), citizens are busy unleashing terror—kidnapping, trafficking, rap1ng, enslaving, murdering, victimising, maligning, vilifying—one another, even as I write and as you’re reading this. I am, therefore, constantly moved to ask one crucially important question: are Africans caused?
TravelRe: Commonwealth Considers Visa-free Regime For Member Nations by Patsey: 3:38pm On Mar 05, 2013
MEANING NIGERIANS CAN ENTER UK, CANADA, ETC, VISA FREE? NOW, THAT'S A DREAM THAT CAN NEVER BE REALISED IN SO FAR AS MEMBERS STATES (E.G. NIGERIA) CONTINUE TO MAKE LIFE UNBEARABLE, WITHIN ITS SHORES, TO ITS CITIZENRY. SOMEBODY SHOULD PLEASE ADVICE GEJ TO STOP MAKING CARICATURE OF HIMSELF BEFORE THE GLOBAL AUDIENCE. HE'S ALREADY GONE DOWN THE MEMORY LANE AS THE DUMBEST NIGERIAN PRESIDENT OF ALL TIME.

FashionRe: Male Student Wears Wrapper To School; Wins 20K Bet by Patsey: 12:01am On Mar 02, 2013
In some Nigerian tribes and cultures as is in some other countries e.g. India and Scotland, it is perfectly right for men to not only wear wrapper but also put on kilts. That this guy was chased with sticks as if he's a cow is nothing but a show of shame and absolute ignorance.

This is a test case and how I wish that others recently expelled from this university, on account of not attending chapel/church service, come together and take this university to court. Where are all the human rights lawyers in Nigeria? And, what is the role or the Nigeria University Commission (NUC) in these anomalies. I am currently writing a paper on these developments, to be published in an international journal, and will closely follow this court case!
