linclon: Hi, Does anyone have information on how I can get a police clearance certificate from Nigeria for my Permanent Residence application here in Canada? Thanks
Yes ,u can get a police certificate from Alagbon,in Lagos. I personally know one of the top guys there who is a finger print expert and issues the document to people travelling abroad. You need ur finger prints and a passport sized photograph with a token fee to get ur police certificate. But since you are not physically present to do a thumb print how will u get the document from here?

Danyl: that is interesting,.. pls what is the direct link where i can get all the information i need for a PRV,apart from the www.cic.gc.ca
Fortunately, that is the only sure link you can get all the informations you will ever need about the Federal skilled workers program. Any other immigration link posing to help you secure a visa to canada get all their informations from this website for it is the only canada official visa link on immigration and travel issues. The only thing you need to do is to navigate through it to get all the informations you need about which ever visa program type that suits your purpose.

mercylicious: @ Pauloman, congrats.
Did u use any agent? Did u go to Ghana urself or sent DHl?
Do u speak french? Is ur job in d list of required skills? Did u get a job offer there before applying. Please share this jist fast as my ears are itching for it.
Nope i never used any agent,i did all the filing myself. I read through all the information required of potential applicants as at july 2009. Luckily for me my profession was on the list of eligible professions then ,which was Construction Managers as i am a Civil Engineer by profession. But the luck i have that gave me an edge was the fact that i have a second degree with work experience in that too.I went to Ghana myself to submit my supporting documents only once because i had to be there to make the Right of Permanent Residence Fee Payment . Subsequent request for other documents by the embassy i either sent them through dhl or sent it to a friend in Ghana to help me deliver by hand . The only thing that would have made me travel in person to Ghana again before this trip i intend to embark on to pick up my PRV was if they had invited me for an interview which they did not.

I did french back then while in school but since one dont speak it regularly i got so rusty but i do know the basics though and can easily catch up while in the mist of french speakers. I did try claim points on the french proficiency score grid by a written submission since i know the basics but i was told i have to do TEF that is french proficiency exams and submit the result but i didnt so i had to stick with my English proficiency result which i did with IELTS and had a great score.

I didnt have an offer of employment in Canada so i had to submit a bank statement in my name of about 2.5million naira even though on the website the sufficiency funds needed for me to have in my bank account is just about 1.8million naira. But if you are able to secure an employment within Canada with an employer ,you do not have to show any proof of sufficient funds or bank statement as i did and i guess the visa process will be a lot faster. I applied in January 2010 and my PRV only just got approved today so you can see it was not a walk in the park thing all.

Above all i will just say everything worked out with God's special Grace because many applied with me and fell off by the way side

Tiwanna: They did send notification to people Who played the dv2012 lottery because they realised that most people that checked and didn't win in may didn't check back in july draw(the second draw) and they must have tossed out there confirmation number. That's why they sent out the email to participants of the dvlottery that won in the second draw to check their status on the entrant status page. It would have been a scam if it where written in the mail that he won. But it wasn't written in the mail, but rather they asked him to check his status on the dv page.
well i guess they changed the procedure then. Congrats to you my friend !
Well, i checked sometime in May, 2011 and wasnt selected and that was it!
I never bothered to check back, not even after i heard there was a programming error with the May selections.

Was very surprised when I got an email (13th July, 2012) to check my status - which i did and was surprised i was selected.
I didnt know if i should be happy or otherwise as the time left is more-or-less very close to the end of the fiscal year -30th Sept, 2012.

I need ppl with a similar experience to come tell if i stand a good chance to getting called up for an interview!

Case Number: 2012AF00015***
My friend that email message you said you received is a scam mail i can bet you that ! The organizers of the dvlottery does not send email notifications to selected dv lottery winners. So please take note ! You have to check with your confirmation number you got when you registered on their website to get any information that you have been selected at all

koolmd: Hello All,

I am a 38 yr old Single Male Nigerian. Presently, i intend sending in my application for tourist visa to Canada. I have visited Paris, France and Manchester UK( both on vacations. I work for an Oil and Gas Coy in Nigeria, and my company is paying some part of my travel expense (airfare and accomodation) which they will state in the cover note as they have done for me on my previous trips. My Salary is about 400k/mnth. I have just about 3.5M in 2 accts i operate.

My concern here is that, i have previously applied for the Canadian Federal Skill Worker Program in 2009 but was not accepted for the reason that my profession had been removed from the approved list of professions eligible for consideration. I have packaged all my docs. including hotel booking /reciepts from previous trips, even pictures of places i visited on tour, tour handbills/pamphlets etc from previous tours. I just like to know what my chances are otherwise i could choose to visit a different location apart from canada.

Advise is needed please.
IMO...i think you have a beautiful chance bro and you are good to go ! Btw when you applied for the FSWP in 2009,where you refused in the CIO stage or at the embassy stage in Accra,Ghana?

justwise: Who keeps such record in Nigeria? You quoted that figure because US keeps the record.
@ Rossicky...I do agree with justwise to some extent on his post. Even if the police keeps such record i do not believe such a figure will represent the true state of killings in the country . This is because the force i believe lacks the adequate reach to capture the true state of killings nationwide as there are many unreported cases. Even when they do as in the case of the boko haram insurgency and other likely mayhems in the country, you find them doctoring the figures of such killings, for God knows why?

What i am trying to say is that the statistical records from the police does not really represent the true state of things as it were.

TravelRe: Main Reasons Many Are Refused Visas by pauloman(m): 9:11pm On Jul 28, 2012
Vicjustice: It depends on what is "requested" from you, or what is required of you. There are some institutions that may accept notarized copies of hard documents, but embassy isn't one of such except if they give you exceptional privilege: I don't know any one who can get a visa with a photo copy Marriage Certificate
Well its the canadian embassy in Accra, Ghana where i applied for my PR visa on a skilled workers visa program. They did tell me to send the original copies of my employment letters after i sent them the notarised copy of the said documents. But immediately they sent the email which was in December last year, they followed up with another email in january 11 requesting for my 12months bank statement and my IELTS test results which have all been duly sent before the stated deadline on the email message. But i still didnt send the originals of my employment letters since they never made reference for me to send the original copies of the employment letters.

Truth is i felt those are my private copies and that why should i send them when they have a notarised copy. But even at not sending that document, they never made mention of me sending it again. They already have Letters of reference from the Management of each of those companies i worked with though.

I have been called by the embassy to do my medical examination about 2months ago and i also have been requested to send an updated police report certificate also which i have done. I was never called for any interview after my document was reviewed before my medical call up. As a matter of fact what i am waiting for now is the final decision from the embassy of whether my visa will be approved or denied.

Please reading through my brief above,do you think i should send the original of my employment letters still or just ignore and wait for the embassy's final decision which i am expecting any time soon? Please i need your objective advice on this promptl. Thanks
TravelRe: Main Reasons Many Are Refused Visas by pauloman(m): 7:33pm On Jul 28, 2012
Vicjustice: You can't get a visa using photocopies of hard documents; hard documents are documents carrying security authentication, or stamp, or seals, or signature.
What of if one was requested to send a notarised copy of his employment letters in the initial stage of visa application which was promptly done. Is there need to still submit the original hard copy of such a documents during the processing stages of the visa application if the file has not been concluded?
TravelRe: Main Reasons Many Are Refused Visas by pauloman(m): 5:55pm On Jul 28, 2012
Vicjustice: No one can get a visa with photocopy of any documents, therefore, your first refusal was inevitable.
As for the second refusal, the issue i see here is your Home TIE or Obligation, the visa officer was not satisfied that you have compelling reasons to return to Nigeria for.
Now, i don't think there is anything wrong with you spending one forth of your yearly income on a holiday of a life time unless of course you don't really have the year worth salary savings in your account
Please can you expantiate on the statement above that " no body can get visa with photocopy of a document" thanks

According to the annual Global Peace Index (GPI), Canada was ranked world's 4th most peaceful country.

Canada has moved up three spots from last year, now in 4th place, following Iceland, Denmark, and New Zealand.

When determining a country's peacefulness, the report uses a number of indicators including access to weapons, organized conflict, violent demonstrations, political instability, and conflicts fought. For the majority of indicators, Canada ranked a 1, the lowest and most 'peaceful' ranking possible.

The 2012 index ranked 158 nations while the 2011 list included 153 countries.

The GPI stated that the world became slightly more peaceful over the last year. Except for the Middle East and North Africa, all regions experienced improvements in their levels of peacefulness. Canada's rise in ranking was attributed largely to a scaling down of military efforts abroad, while maintaining an above-average level of peacefulness at home.

TravelVisa Applicants VS CIC: Court Orders Canada To Process Pre-2008 Visa Applicants by pauloman(op): 3:47pm On Jul 28, 2012
A Canadian Federal Court has ruled in favour of visa applicants waiting to have their visa's processed and fearing they would not be rejected without processing.

The federal court has directed the Ottawa immigration authorities to process all the Canadian skilled worker visa applications filed before 2008. This decision will help over 300,000 families worldwide get a chance to settle in Canada after suffering major professional, financial and emotional setbacks due to the lengthy backlog of their applications, ranging five to nine years.

About 900 applicants who had suffered from government decision to reject the applications filed prior to February 2008 filed a case against Immigration Minister Jason Kenney for violating the pledge to assess and finalise decisions in a timely manner.

"The ruling is a positive sign for these 900 applicants who can now hope to realise their dreams of settling in Canada once again" said Chandigarh-based immigration expert Col BS Sandhu, "I am happy for these people and their families as their applications will now be processed in a timely manner." Lol trust me i have been with haaaawwwt ladies n i dont get carried away with physical looks. I get attracted to a lady by the intrinsic values she possess rather than the physical. One thing u have to know is that loving someone is not just based on feelings that clouds ur emotions n senses which is typically what is termed "falling in love". Its a conscious effort of looking @ ur partners strenghts n weaknesses and objectively making a decision to stand by this person no matter what challenges comes ur way either presently or in the future and this is what is called "Standing in love" which is lacking in marriages these days, hence, the high divorce rates in the world today !
