justwise: I have my fear though, i really hope that Nigerians and other foreign students will not start abusing the Canadian 'generous' system, you remember 6-8 yrs ago UK used to be a soft-touch for student visa, maintenance money not required, fee upfront not needed, you will be given 3yrs for visa extension and allowed to stay back and work after graduation, all that is gone now because of the abuse of the system.
U dont have to worry about anything. Canadian Government are already envisaging such occurences and are enacting strict immigration policies to check all sorts of abuse that might arise as a result of their generous and lofty immigration policies. So i strongly doubt if such saturation has found in the UK at this time would ever occur there.

Canada is the 2nd largest country in the world with a relatively low population size of about 34million people according to their 2011 census + the active workiing population is aging. So at this point in time they need immigrant hopefuls like temporary residents in the form of students and more PRs to come occupy that territory and make their economy prosper more and more. So any right thinking person that is looking for opportunities will work hard to secure his or her place in that country while the opportunity is still there.

Watch out for that country, its going places! Cheers !!

Vicjustice: If her younger sister is 27 then she may be close to 30, and for her to win a beauty contest at such age means she is indeed a beauty
You obviously do not get it do you? The beauty contest was stage-managed and her age was falsified. Meaning she didnt win the contest by merit. She is not a true beauty queen! If it were in a sound country this shameful thing happened,i bet she would be stripped off her crown and whatever benefits that goes with it.

I knew something was fishy when she worn the crown then, because she looked so old and used with those her drooling and sagging thighs and boobs!

Not justifying but trying to correct an erroneous impression.

Another Okija: Because it only dawns on them after spending time abroad that the grass isn't actually greener..

I am one of those who made that bold decision to return after spending 1 year in Canada (as a permanent resident).. I applied to all the big companies and they kept turning me down for one useless reason or the other. The county then employed me to carry dustbins.. Then I got another job as a construction site cleaner.. Omo life wasn't easy and that wasnt what I bargained for when I took up the offer to live abroad..

Then I saw a medical doctor that was flipping burgers at a mac donald, saw my friend who worked in an oil company that still had to work in a bank on his off days to meet payments on his credit card bills.. OMO!! I immediately realised that I just left a gold mine to come pick scrap metals..

The taxes back home are not as insane as it is abroad.

I booked my flight and returned home to a better life jor. We may not have steady electricity, but I have an inverter and a big generator and can afford diesel.. I may not have government water, but I have a borehole.. The roads may be ridded with potholes, but thats why I drive a brand new car so it lasts longer, the security may be bad, but thats why I also have a dog, a single barrel remington shotgun (registered).. and I have a job that pays for al my bills and leaves me enough to save..
Glad to know you finally found your feet in Nigeria, but your one year stint in Canada can not be enough for you to fully fully start living large in a western system that you are new to in every sphere of the word, even with your permanent residence status. You need to get yourself fully integrated into their system educationally, professionally, culturally and otherwise before you start reaping the economic gains and this my brother takes determination and hardwork.

In my opinion, lots of people erroneously think living in the western world is a bed of roses but on the contrary you need to earn your comfort by hardwork and determination. Most importantly you need to have a road map to what you want to achieve while there and even before you get there. It is also very important to set one's priorities right financially, spiritually and otherwise. These i feel are are values an immigrant needs to settle in and become economically viable and successful in your host country.

Your were not patient enough to reap the benefit of a working system

dasparrow: I am quite disappointed about the so-called new visa policy. So while countries around the world are guarding and tightening their borders, Nigeria is gladly opening hers. I don't know why our leaders can't seem to get it right. How can we boost tourism when there is no security and stability in the country? or do our leaders think the world is not aware that every sunday now, boko haram is blowing people up? How can we attract investors when we still cannot boast of 24 hours of uninterrupted electric/power supply?

Our leaders want to copy the west but they fail woefully at it because we are not organized as a nation. Even right now, we have many chinese, lebanese, and indian people in Nigeria who are not skilled migrants and are driving okada or selling in the market place so what happens when we start issuing visa at the port of entry? Foreigners who are conversant with the high levels of corruption in Nigeria will just bribe their way through. Mean while, other nations are busy deporting Nigerians anyhow, lol. We better wake up before we become strangers in our own land/turf/country. It seems we Nigerians don't think about the future.

Reference: In essence there is a transition between a girl and woman, Miss and Mrs which requires a great deal of preparation and most men will look to see just how much construction or reconstruction is going on before buying into the project. I remain myself doesn't attract anything but spiders and cobwebs.
So on point bro ! The fact is most ladies dont know where to actually draw the line....and erroneously think its by the time they find a man and get married ,when they can not even see or know when to transit from a gal to a woman and worst off is that they dont know that the real good men are searching for and have a natural radar for the real woman who has successfully transitted from a gal to a woman to take as a wife.

@Post, so on point! May I add that some ladies who are overly introverted(like myself :p) don't take time to explore the world around them and therefore fail to meet and mix with many people, lack the appropriate social/communication skills that men find attractive and could just be downright boring? I don't think any man would want to have such for a wife.

TravelRe: Before Leaving Nigeria: Things You Must Know by pauloman(m): 1:38pm On Jun 02, 2012
manny4life: That's somewhat incorrect, it's recognized but it has to be evaluated. It might not be credit for credit, but it's something. Though I'm not familiar with Nigerian education system, however, most people have gotten their transcripts reevaluated here to meet transcript standard like the one here. The problem with people when they get here is not about the education part, but getting a job without papers. Without papers, you have to depend on your skills or you have to get the under-the-table jobs which isn't fun.
Expantiate on wat u mean by "without papers" pleasehuh

RomanceRe: Do Nigerian Ladies Abroad Find It More Difficult To Find Husbands? by pauloman(m):
Truth be told, the chances of getting a Nigerian partner abroad is pretty slimmer compared to hooking up to a Nigerian man here. Please do not castigate the poor lady that knows what she wants for herself and that is why she is not comfortable with her singleness before she travels. So cut her some slack.

@op your friends worry is not out of place as she knows what she wants for herself. If shes that serious about getting a suitable life partner, let her send a mail to my friends email addy (ufeli.goel@gmail.com) or better still call him on 07051212470 for them to hook up. He is single @ the moment and searching for a suitable lady to settle down with. Wish her best of luck and she should not relent in her dreams. Cheers !

Sweetlemon: Because life is not as rosy as people think for pretty girls! And as Nayah said they are ordinary flesh and blood with hearts which are just as vulnerable to pain as any regular girl on the street.
Perhaps if they adopt being down to earth to people that approach them and get off the idea and thoughts that they are pretty and asuch a special being especially when a simple guy approaches them then their life wouldnt be so pathetic for them to cry @ nite.

dayokanu: David, Jenny.

I think i disagree with you. Several times lifr throws curve balls and you cant predict where you would be the following day

I know several people with plum jobs that lost it and never recovered for life.

I know a friends brother who was a Manager at Oceanic always flying his family for vacation to UK etc that got laid off and cant just get back on his feet he now teaches at primary schools making less than 40K naira a month

Would you now say he wasnt educated, smart or was he lazy?

I know a person who had a BS and MS in Engineering from the best Universities in the UK way back in the 1970's lost his top management job in Nigeria in 1994 and never got anything till date after pushing buttons and going everywhere

Those two examples are ppl properly educated and hardworking but life just happened. Would you be wrong to have given your daughter in marriage to either of them?

The husband might have been a top exec in Nigeria when they were getting married.

Imagine a couple a Top Banker marries a Nursing school graduate in Nigeria, The man would be earning like time 5 of whatever the woman earns now both of them migrate to the West US, UK etc chances are that due to the demands of the new society the woman might be the one earning more money

So the champions of yesterday has become the Sluggard of today and vice versa, Thats life
Spot on bro for the scenerios u gave. It appears David and jenny were so well bred that they dont know how life can come with ups and down. I have been reading all the post here and i must appreciate the likes of CC and co that have been so encouraging to Ruths plight. All she needs at this point is loads of encouragement and not how mistaken she found herself in such a condition.

@op i must confess that u are a one a million kind of wife. I must commend ur supportive attitude to ur husbands plight and please pay very little attention to what the likes of David and others with him are saying as regards ur husband's condition . To me they are just being so unnecesarily judgemental because finding a good man and husband is not easy and besides money is not everything. What u are going through is not uncommon to what happens in marriages these days. There must be rough times so that u can appreciate the sweet times when it comes.

In life we fight through the tough times and try to plan better in the good times . No condition is permanent ! So be hopeful and stay very positive as there will always be a ray of bright light at the other end of the tunnel. Cheers!

EducationRe: Is Intelligence Overrated: What You Really Need To Succeed by pauloman(m): 10:37pm On May 11, 2012
[quote author=Henry40]Whoever wrote this article for Forbes must be on crack!

How do you measure EQ, MQ, and BQ? Does he even know what an IQ is?

IQ/Intelligence Quotient is evaluated by dividing mental age by the actual, chronological age of the person taking the test, and then multiplying it by 100 to get rid of the decimal point.

A "Mental Age" is measured by giving the person in question a series of tests normally meant for a different age grade, and evaluating the person afterwords.

For example, if a 6-year-old girl scored a mental age of 9, she would be assigned an IQ of 150 (9/6 × 100). If a 12-year-old boy scored a mental age of 6, he would be given an IQ of 50 (6/12 × 100). The IQ score, as originally computed, expresses a person’s mental age relative to his or her chronological age.

Here, you have a writer saying:

What an i d i o t he must be!! Do you think IQ has anything to do with "Knowlege"? It's about the way your brain works. Is your brain older or younger than you??

[/quot

Hey stop making a fool out of yourself with these your dumb statements. IQ test mental age and alertness. So what do you use in testing that,is it not the knowlegde base of such an individual? Its not compulsory to comment if you dont have a reasonable thing to say and stop making people feel like the writer wrote rubbish because these are good facts the demands commendation. I rest my case !
