This was the case before, but not anymore. its cost effective for the military to enlist already trained doctors. If you have finised residency even better. You will be promoted to Major, Squadron Leader or Lieutenant Commander within 3-4 yrs of entry.

You know that NDA already trains officers with degrees in engineering who are much younger and with additional military staff duty competencies. The best situation to join DSSC is in areas that NDA don't train officers. Medical, IT etc

First of all, Write your "Will" before joining the army.

Now, what make people joining through Direct Short Service course not go far in rank is because of their age. Before you finish University or Polytechnic, you would have been in your mid-twenties. Promotion is every 3/4 years in the military, now calculate from your age of joining as a 2nd Lieutenant to when you are 60 years (retirement age) and see why you won't get to a General.

There is also what is called "Combatant" and "Non Combatant". You will be a non combatant officer because you didn't attend NDA, and this also affect the positions you will be given.

A non combatant can never be a GOC or COAS or head DICON, DMI, etc

Apply to NDA is a Regular Combatant Cadet. You will do better that way. You would be able to build a much stronger brotherhood across all 3 armed services compared to Short Service or Direct Regular where only a single arm(DSSC Army) trains for the entire period. So you may not even have course mates in the real sense from the Airforce or Navy, this would limit your opportunities in tri service SETUP. if you Join the army as A DSSC OFFICER WITH AN ENGR QUALIFICATION, it would be extremely competitive in service because the NDA already churns out ENGR who are also competent in other aspects of Military duties. So yes you would have disadvantages. But if you are still less than 26 on entry and you have competency to excel in staff training at JAJI AND OTHER Young officer courses that will benefit you in your career.

If Atiku picks the party ticket it would certainly mean he deserves it, against all the opposition and media campaigns. Hear this from a neutral. If rumours of PDP zoning its Presidential ticket to the North is anything to go by, I think that the party is set for yet another disaster in 2023. In spite of all President Buhari's misdeeds and poor handling of the country from 2015-2019, the APC was able to attain 25% votes in some PDP enclaves. Majority of Atiku's votes came from the South (Atiku's perceived strong hold). Now, you have to factor in that most of Atiku's votes came in as a spite on the Buhari candidacy. In 2023, the calculation will be very different, and I don't think the PDP is taking cognisance of this fact. I feel their decision to zone the Presidential ticket to the North is predicated on a fear of losing, and not on sound political calculations. Because, in the last 7 years the game shifted from the North to the South. No well meaning Nigerian, North or South would vote a northern candidate. And from way I see it, most of the PDP governors couldn't care less which party wins in 2023. After all, they have the senate they can always run for.
