Jesusbaby6:You can Google the images of it and its health benefits. I met it at the farm alongside Spring onions, Fennel, Peppermint, Turmeric, Rosemary, Thyme, Oregano, Garlic Chives, Coriander, Parsley, bay leaf, Gooseberry and many others. |
So sad. |
Finally home, been away on farm tours & couldn't update this thread because my laptop where my pictures are stored stayed behind. Visited organic farms into strawberry, herbs & spices, that is where the money is as a kilo of chia seeds sells for N8,000! |
Praying it hits $10! ![]() It really needs to crash to the point that it will no longer make economic sense to drill, only then will the diversification of the economy no longer be a lip service. The cabbage we will be eating in Lagos will come from Ogun State! ![]() |
''Dododo also said that the committee has also discovered over 200 fake schools which the committee could not see on ground but their staff salaries were included in the government payroll''........... ![]() |

organicfoods:Getting millions of idle youths engaged is no rocket science. I asked some where in one of my posts why Ogun State is not cashing in fortune from Lagosians who spends billions of Naira daily on food despite the fact they are next door neighbours and 5 times the size of Lagos State but just serving as an entry point for trailers of foodstuff from the North? That is why am so against the purported N5,000 monthly for the unemployed youth as it adds no real value to their lives. Rather than give 1,000 youths N5,000 each which sums up N5m. It should be used to get them resource persons to train them on vertical sack farming, vermiculture, greenhouse construction and post harvest storage where there is no electricity, all these will take only 2 weeks to learn. These idle youths will transform to employers of labour, government will collect taxes from the enterprises they would set up and the ripple effect continues! |
Congratulations to him. |
organicfoods:Am just loving your progress as such efforts are what contribute to food security. Dots of little, congregates to make a mass. When an urban dweller realizes that he can grow his vegetables within a sack then would he realize the power in his hands. Some Reverend Sisters from Ghana recently came to Kenya to understudy vermiculture and vertical sack farming since they intend going organic where they would be using manure from their earthworms and vermiliquids for liquid fertilizers. They would be setting up their farm within a space of 120ft by 180ft. From the feasibility studies done, they would be smiling to the bank on a monthly basis! ![]() |
Some when asked after their earthly journey to give account of themselves they would accuse God of 'Witch hunting'..... ![]() |
“They made attempts on my life, but they did not know I was using a bullet-proof Honda car. As God would have it, ex-President Umaru Yar’Adua died. Ibori escaped to Dubai from where he was taken to the United Kingdom for trial. He is serving a jail term in the UK.”.....Hmm! |
comradee1248:What is the name of the farm? |
I just dey observe and someone wants me to feel less igbo for not identifying with these charlatans! ![]() |
VANHELLSING:Maybe you should offer to give me FREE tutorial on comprehension skills. Igbo is my identity being Biafran is a choice! ![]() |
EasternPride:Laughing at your close mindedness as anyone who reasons differently from you is automatically a Yoruba, Ochi ato gbuo le m! I have never hailed T.A Orji as even the blind knows he is a first class failure. Take Anyim who is our brother and was the Secretary of the Federation under GEJ, what reason has he given to us for not influencing some of the Federal roads in our region fixed because he wielded so much influence during GEJ's Presidency? ![]() |
Those exporting goods/services are in a better position. |
This is indeed laughable by the way how did Orji Uzor Kalu utilize the hundreds of billions accruing to Abia State during his 8 years as the governor? |
This is highly commendable. lf such farm and so many others are being packaged and aired on TV Stations, it will motivate many Nigerians to go into agric business, that is one of the means that got many kenyans into agribusiness! |
Fresh curry leaves, cloves, fenugreek, fresh coriander leaves, ginger, black pepper (uziza). |
“I dare Sahara to register with corporate Affairs commission. Sowore’s jail term will be longer than that of a monkey in the zoo,”.......An eagle has no fellowship with millipedes. Dino is really a local champion, what do Sahara Reporters tend to gain from registering with corporate Affairs commission? |

drss:Spice or Spies? |
sow4me:Going through my threads and posts in this Agriculture section, will give you the answer you seek. ![]() |
drss:Edit the spice in your heading. |
sow4me:Agriculture is good and big business. We grew up with the mindset that Agriculture is a sad alternative when else has failed. When content providers begin to air agri-business based TV programmes, many Nigerians will be shocked by their ignorance. Agribusiness is a world away from the pictures of elderly folks bending with their hoes and cutlasses rather the more enlightened one is, the higher the chances of striking gold with it! |
jasper7:N20,000? The N4,000 is even by private soil testing centres while government agencies are even cheaper. |
Faculties of Agriculture in various Nigerian Universities need to set up commercial soil testing centres and sensitize local farmers on the need to have their soil tested. They should train field agents stationed in different areas on how to take soil samples. They collect the samples from farms and forward them to the soil testing centres then after 7-10 days they get the result and given fertilizer recommendation. Soil testing is as low N4,000 here in Kenya. |

For a sack the size l have in my previous post. 5 wheel barrows of soil and 5 wheel barrows of manure is required. One can use manure from poultry, cow dung but from practical experience manure from goats seem to be the best so far because using goat manure in the mix, a sack can continue to grow crops for up to one year before loosening up the sack for a new mix. Manure from poultry and cow dung seems to have a shorter span of effectivity as fertilizer for the crops which means sacks which they are used on will not go up to a year before a new mix. Note that the livestock waste must be left for 3 months to decompost before it can be used as manure for the sack. Since not everyone has access to livestock waste the easier method is vermiculture where one generates vermicompost from raising earthworms within his/her compound.I will shed more light on this in my next post as l have a farm visit to conduct. |
kutalian:Like in one of my earlier posts l did mention a mix of local curry, coriander, green, spinach, lettuce, spring onions though not limited to these. |

Since vertical sack farming is something new in Nigeria, the sacks are not locally sold. It is brought in from Kenya. |
