You know what, that is why the Chinese are in the driving seat at the moment, even in Africa.  I saw a BBC documentary some time ago about Chinese engineers and foremen putting up a factory in Tanzania.   They were living on the site, sleeping on bunks beds with mosquito  nets and the commentator pointed this out as another example of  why the West can never compete with the Chinese on the world markets.    The average Western expat thinks he is God's gift to Africa and wants to recreate European living conditions wherever he goes on the continent.  The Oyinbo people you refer to, are beginning to find out that their jobs are being exported to China and India, and that a large number can no longer afford to pay the mortgage on their  "heavenly houses".   We are therefore effectively doing them a favour but our silly leaders don't realise that as well as the fact that  we are actually better off without them as we can get equally skilled and experienced Chinese  expats or Indians for a fraction of the cost of hiring these uppity arrogant Oyinbos.  However what would really be nice, if only we had sensible leadership,  would be to make use of our own manpower and train them  to do these jobs instead of spending our precious foreign reserves on expatriates.
I am from Kenya and I agree with the bolded. You need to see the kind of work these chinese are doing in our country. We have great communication network no doubt and the country is really keen on infrastructure development. Everywhere you go, there are all these chinese building bridges and superhighways.
They have been awarded all goverment contracts eg. Airport expansion and the good thing is,they get down and dirty. They don't issue instructions from the comfort of their hotel rooms.
They eat what the locals eat and sit with them under the scorching sun
The other reason they are favoured is cz the chinese do not interfere with your internal politics at all.
Unlike the other big bosses who demand that you do A in order to get B.

My dear, let's be sincere here. A partner that acts like the death of his/her lover's parent is ''a little thing'' is to be viewed as wat? Not even a condolence visit, even if after the burial?
Thank you for highlighting that.
I must admit this post was very difficult to understand so I only picked what I could understand.
That's truly sad.But this girl seems to be soo sheltered to the point that she has lost touch with the emotional part.
Its like she doesn't know how to express herself emotionally and acts tough and hard.
I dont know whether her upbringing is to blame but she needs to soften up and be normal.

I still think they need to really talk till that girl breaks down those walls that have made her soo insensitive.
She could be having issues unsolved and they can help each other out.

pendo, tnx for replyin. Its school majorly. Met some of my secondary school mates yesterday, they v all finishd from uni(actually most of dem did a four yr course, am doin six), but still, seein dem all so happy, preparin to get married . . . Am still here wonderin y i failed a particular course in d last xam i wrote. Do u get?
Yes I get but listen dear. Life is not a bed of roses. You are only at the beginning not ending.
The worst thing that could happen to anybody in life is death.Even the person in a coma has some hope.
Rem,everybody that ever made it in life failed at one point or another. I also failed in some exams, repeated them but that did not deter me from pursuing my goals further.
Let me commend you for failing because you used your brains.I have heard complains about gals who sleep to pass.
My dear you are better of failing cz you worked hard. You passed the greatest test which is NOT sleeping with some lecturer in order to pass.

About crowds.PLEASE never allow people to influence your course in life. Stand out from the crowd.
Is everybody getting married while you are studying? let them marry! concentrate on your course cz its your future you are building here not theirs.Let them tell you stories and send you cards.Do not feel left out because you are not missing a thing! Your time has not yet come. And remember that there' s a time and season for everything.
If you decide to go with the crowd they will not be there when you are hurting.
Focus on your studies, have your principles, stick to them and don't make discouragement your middle name.Never.
Think about the many gals that would wish to be in your shoes and thank God you are in Uni and repeating just an exam.
Finally No condition is permanent. They come and go like wind. Am sure tomorrow you will be smiling.
Believe in yourself and know that you are unique in your own way cz God never made duplicates.

The secret with failure and discouragement> They make us strong and ready to take on the next challenge. One never remains the same after they have been thru such so it works out for good in the end.

Now arise smile lift your head up high and say its just an exam and you will breakthrough
Go eat some nice dish and feel good about what you have achieved so far.
Count your blessings name them one by one and it will suprise you what God has done. smiley smiley

I always try to please her and be there for her at all times but the ish is that when I do not have the strength to go on like I have been challenged emotionally/financially in the past 2 years, I rely on her love to lift us up but when it doesn't happen, it leaves me disheartened/distressed
All of this compounding over the time has been making me doubt our relationship because she recently called her not
I can no longer bear it anymore and fed up cos it is as she does not know/understand my feelings
Op I have read your op 2 times and this is my deduction.

You guys need to spend some time and talk about your feelings.I think you are assuming a lot of things and expecting the other partner to know what's inside your mind without letting them into your mind.
Do not conclude before you talk. You may be amazed by her response.

Yeye I know you are just trying to work peoples nerves here. But I talk to you as a sister.
REAL MEN know how to handle women in their age group and class.
What you are exhibiting is called an *escapism mentality*. Running away instead of dealing with issues that come along.
Talk to some real men that deal with quality ladies and find out where they pick them from and how they do it.
If its you that is ever complaining then that tells me you have a big problem on your side and you need to deal with it so that you stop attracting losers. You attract your kind kind if you did not know that.

Give yourself a challenge because it seems like you enjoy fishing in shallow waters.
If you want quality and admired fish you must go into the deep sea where there are storms and whales. Then cast your net and with patience you will get the kind of gal you so desire.
But it seems like you are scared of storms so you will always end up with losers or immature fish that are easy to catch and don't fetch any good price. They are sold in the local market for quick consumption.
The ball is in your court.

Listen yeye4live before you become yeye4dead.

Allow the young girls to mature physically and emotionaly.

Your conscience need to be clear enough in order to make right decisions.Do not do things that will haunt you in the future.

When you see a 15 yr old gal all bosoms, and hips realise that her mind is not the same size as her body.

She still young in reasoning and not mature enough to deal with the consequences of her mistakes.

Thats the part that silly sugardaddies and yeyes fail to realise and leave young girls hurting emotionally for the rest of their lives.
If you are a REAL MAN you will go for your agemates and not steal toddlers from cradles.

Always think of that gal as your young sis and even if you see old men abusing them do not be tempted to join as there is no fun.

All they are doing is poking God's eyes and stirring his wrath and judgment awaits them.

So separate yourself and live a decent life.A life that you will not be ashamed to talk to your nieces and nephews about.

@adeboo
thank you very much.

naija man dance salsa?? shocked

so if the guy's a drummer, he'll start drumming at past 11pm in the night cos he's trying to be romantic? grin grin

to a naija man, the woman's place is in the kitchen. he only goes there when he's extremely hungry and can't wait for the food on the gas/stove to get to him.

after a heavy meal, a naija man wants to relax and watch news or pick up a sports magazine.

good thing you know naija guys don't have time for romantic movies. [/b

she's not yet a fiancee. so why bother about her mother? as for the sister, naija men are ashawoic in nature. he might just develop a stiffler for her. you never know, ek se!

if she likes the annual eyo festival, no qualms. but she should be prepared to receive her cane strokes alone
and run for safety by herself.

if a naija man's mother didn't get the limo treatment during her own wedding, that might flop. you know mothers na!!

about her car being serviced, that will so not happen.
unless she asks! why would he worry about her car (that's if she even has one cos naija girls like front seat of their boyfriend motor pass the chair wey dey front of tv for her papa house) when he's thinking about grooving on the weekend? changing a flat tire, most definitely she'll learn. wink
grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin ooooh my ribs gosh.Romantic drumming!!

I was just about to say that it sounds all sweet and good in theory but realistically no.
Now this dude summarised it well. grin very funny esp the drumming bit.

All I can advise a guy is to be himself, act like a man, and know how to impress a lady.
Know what makes a lady tick and remember the same standard doesn't apply to all ladies.
We are very different when it comes to impressions and what makes us tick. grin grin
Putting up a show like above is the key to failure.

RomanceRe: how to be responsible at 28 by pendo89(f): 4:44pm On Aug 14, 2011
op trying am trying to understand this question of yours.

1.Responsibility is not about age.

At 10 yrs I could handle responsibility (ref.to domestics ie cleaning, cooking, washing etc) without supervision at all.
(thnk God 4 boarding).
But I was not mature so my interest around that age was playing kiddish games and everything a 10 yr old does.

But when I finished studying and got a job my interests and talk changed.
I developed a desire to want to improve myself and build my future not waste time partying with friends.
I was no longer a 'responsible kid' but a 'mature' individual with 'real life' responsibilities and maturity helped me handle the responsibilities better.

In summary responsibility is not determined by age. At 28 you could be very irresponsible than a 13 year old.
When you mature all round ie emotionally, physically, psychologicaly then your interests automatically change.
You let go off kiddish/teenage stuff and act your age.You take on responsibilities with maturity.

How do I know you are matured? I look at the things that interest you. Not your age!

so your question should be 'How to act mature at 28'. Then responsibilities fall under that title.

We have 43 tribes each having their own culture/traditions.
Infact the traditional rituals are becoming extinct, and the current crop of 'old people' prefer things to be done the modern/church way. Nobody wants trucks of goats and cows anymore.
What if you have no grass to feed them!  grin
The groom converts goats into cash and give the gals parents when they go for negotiations.
Everybody wants everything simplified for the future couple.

I know a case where the negotiations took place online and the groom wired dowry cz of distance.
They were given the go ahead and the marriage was conducted and watched by parents on skype!!
grin
Yes o. We do. TWO SOLID weddings. Actually I can almost say it's THREE. Because, there's typically a thanksgiving ceremony a day after the white wedding. The thanksgiving is like another wedding on it's own.
Actually there's FOUR  grin---there's a ceremony thay call "The Introduction". That's before the traditional wedding.

LOL--- I always pity a typical  Nigerian Groom and his family. Before the Traditional wedding, they would have visited the bride's family like 50 times (I'm exaggerating)--and they typically would take something "Dowry-ish" along with them to give the bride's family. But that doesn't stop them from bringing YAM, GOATS, SHEEPS, 190s, BAGS OF RICE, CARS( grin ), CASH MONEY with them for the main TRADTIONAL wedding.

NOTHING O--Nothing happens. We are just too wasteful and confused.
Wow am shocked .That why the likes of 190 have disappeared from nigeria.

But seriously.
Okay lemmie briefly tell you how simplified ours is.
Theres only 3 types of wedding. You only choose one. Traditional/Church wedding/Attorney General's Chambers.
But not all the 3 together! I mean its illegal.

What you refer to as Traditional wedding is simply dowry negotiations or meet the inlaws.
That takes a maximum of 3 trips if you have stubborn inlaws but normally one visit is enough.

Once the inlaws have given you their daughters hand then its up to you to proceed and do the church wedding which is more valued. It seals what was discussed in the dowry negotiations. In short you were only given the right to wed their daughter when you went for negotiations. You have not yet tied the knot!

People value the wedding certificate and this is issued when you do the church wedding or the AGs chambers.
Not during dowry/meet the inlaws negotiations.
A strictly traditional wedding also brings headache when people separate/divorce because the laws governing the traditional differ from a church wedding. All those are factored and the white takes the votes.
Traditional weddings are almost extinct and telling anybody you are traditionally married raises eyebrows.
You sound like you came from history!

In summary you can have one type of wedding not a 4 packaged one.
