Nigeria is an employer's heaven. No employer want to be drawn into a situation where they have to negotiate wages. I run a small business. Before I employ I will usually ask what the going rate is for a particular position and then add a little for whoever makes the cut. It is annoying sometimes when a smart alec sitting before you thinks he is 'negotiating'. You can plead for a little consideration and if you ask nicely, you might get it. Do not ever proceed with a mindset that you are negotiating or you just might never get that job. Ever.

The psychology of recruitment or what i would call 'employment interview dynamics' was not given much thought in that write up. But a good understanding of it is very relevant especially for the job seeker. Its a reason why a not so experienced person might get a better pay for instance. Skill is important to an organization. Ethiopia has Ethiopian Airlines. Kenya has Kenyan Airlines. A lot of less well-off countries have their own airlines. Even Rwanda has its own airline! Why can't our government revive Nigerian Airways once and for all?

People should forget this line of thought. It worked for them doesn't mean it will work for us.

We lack sufficient probity, discipline and law enforcement apparatus to make a national airline work. We have seen that time and again. How many times would we attempt to resuscitate a moribund Nigerian airways?

We don't need another economic drain pipe. let businesses capable of running airlines do it and pay decent taxes.

It would seem VA was motivated to axe their international staff on account of what they see happening in Nigeria. There has been a number of local cabin crew facilitated drug and immigration offences for which airlines usually have to pay hefty fines. You dont expect an airline to come out and openly make declarations like this without drawing flaks. I am unaware if VA has been involved in recent cases but it would be foolhardy for them to learn from their own experience. Lets not forget that in Nigeria, it is open season for the drug trade.

The real victims I see here are Chinese and Indians. And no dont expect any diplomatic incidence over this.
