Yes, thanks.

She has indeed continued to learn French

PPR and LANDING GIST

Timeline
AOR: 4th August 2023
BIL/MEP: 25th August 2023
Biometrics done/updated: 29th August 2023
ADR1 ā€“ Wife's passport
ADR2 ā€“ Schedule A for wife
ADR3 ā€“ Schedule A for me
PPR: 12th October 2023

The Decision to Travel:

I first heard about Express Entry in 2015 but didn't pay close attention to it at the time. Many of my close friends eventually moved through this program. However by end of September 2020, when EndSars protest was beginning to gain momentum, we knew we had to leave the country.

- 1st October 2020: Applied for WES ECA for my MSc.
- 28th October 2020: Received ECA results.
- 31st October 2020: Took my first IELTS (LRWS/8,8.5,6.5,7). I applied for a remark on my Writing, and it was adjusted to 8,8.5,7,7, with an overall score of 7.5.
- January 2021: Wife (@Phabulous93) took her first IELTS (LRWS/9,8.5,8,7.5), scoring 8.5. wifeā€™s ECA was by CES, and her LLB was evaluated as a Professional degree. This took about 6 months.
- My wife's CRS score was 484, and mine was 455, so she stood a better chance.
- October 2022: I wrote my second IELTS with an overall score of 8.0.
- December 2022: My wife took her second IELTS, scoring an overall 8.5.

HEARTBREAK

- We remained at a CRS score of 484 for almost 2 years, and on my wifeā€™s birthday in March 2023, IRCC decided to draw 484. Unfortunately, she lost 5 points on her birthday and she wasn't selected.
- My wife was heartbroken, but as I consoled her, our son walked in and started singing Nathaniel Bassey's song, "You are God from beginning to the end, There's no place for argument, You are God all by yourself...".

TEF in 4 months!

- In January 2023, my wife started practicing with Doulingo, just in case we needed French
- After loosing 5 points and missing out on the ITA in March 2023, she made the courageous decision to learn French formally and dedicated herself to studying day and night. At a point, she had like 2 French tutors.
- Mind you, she was still working full time. We practiced speaking French together, and I even downloaded various French translators so I could practice speacking with her.
- I gingered her to write the TEF exam in June (3 months after she lost 5 points), but she was like, the average time to learn French and pass the TEF is between 9 ā€“ 12 months.
- And I was like, I know. Just see the TEF in June as a mock exam so you get familiar with how the exam isā€¦
- So we registered for it and she wrote the French exam on 15th June 2023, and the results came out on 20th June 2023, less than 1 week later, and we received an extra 10 points.
- Sharperly, I updated our profile, and the score jumped from 479 to 489.
- One week later, we received an ITA (cutoff was 486).

Ah! Baba God o! Thank you.

eAPR
- In putting together our application, we ensured that it was thorough and included a letter of explanation for pretty much everything.
- Our Proof of Funds (POF) was 100% ready since October 2023. However, due to the Naira devaluation in June 2023 (all thanks to Tinubu and the CBN), we had to get a Gift deed to complete our POF.
- We also included 25% of my Pension as a buffer in case the Naira depreciated further.

Additional Document Requests:

- ADR 2 & ADR 3 (Schedule A IMM 5669): I'm not sure why they requested these, but I suppose it's because my wife worked with a Local Government during her NYSC, and the word "Government" might trigger additional scrutiny.
- My wife and I are both Directors and Shareholders of several small companies. We had to provide a separate letter of explanation, clarifying that these companies were part-time and did not interfere with our full-time jobs.

LANDING

- Booked Egyptair and landed Toronto 7am last week. Before 9:00am, the I heard those beautiful words, "Congratulations! And welcome to Canada!"
- We were heading to Calgary, and had a 9 hour layover in Toronto. So we used the time to sort out our SIN, Sim cards (Fido offered us a $35, 50GB plan) and our bank account (CIBC).

Finally guys, if you can, please learn French o! It's not easy but if you can, abeg write it. If we didn't write French, we will still be at 479, hoping and praying that the cut off points drop. But here we are, living in the beautiful city of Calgary as Permanent Residents.

Ah! Baba God! Na you do this one o! Thank you Jesus!
Merci beaucoup wifey @Phabulous93, Que Dieu vous bƩnisse. Amen

Thanks also to @GraciousWords, ednut1, Ebuncrown, MissMa01, Debbieeeeeee for your insights.

Hello everyone, I have just started my pr journey. I have submitted my profile 395. 2 things I can still do; get TEF Canada and do another IELT. I want to ask if I can get any PNP. I have 15 points for having a sibling in Calgary. I am a school administrator running my own school. Is there any solution apart from writing French or rewriting IELT?

If I must write TEF, can anyone point me to resources, WHATAPP group I can join. Thanks for your anticipated help.

I strongly recommend writing French
And if you can rewrite IELTS.

Hello guys
Sorry i have two questions

1) does spouse have to do wes verification, some ppl said its not necessary that only main applicant verification of wes is what is needed. That u can just fill ur spouse degree without having wes verification.

2) its when you get the ita that you submit proof of funds right, and it has to be 6month pof?

What i wanna know is must the pof be in the acc for that 6month untouched or what?

Thank u

If your spouse is going to accompany you to Canada, then it's advisable that they evaluate their credentials and write the IELTS.

If they don't, it's going to drop the points of the principal applicant.

However it's not compulsory for your spouse to evaluate their credentials and write the IELTS. If the points of the principal applicant is enough to secure you an invite, then you're good to go.

Its at the point of submitting your application (eAPR) after ITA that you include your POF. What IRCC asks for is a bank reference letter showing the average balance in the last 6 months. Depending on how you got your POF, it could be 1 week bank statement (e.g. Gift deed)

You still have a lot to learn about how express entry works. Do not rush, read from Page 1.

Maybe my question was not properly structured. The POF itself is 6months old, but I got it since last month. My question is can I go ahead and use it this month after getting ITA

Oga whatā€™s it going to cost you to get a new statement? You can get a new bank statement in 2 hours.

What are you hiding? Donā€™t play with your application. Using a statement dated a month ago today would raise suspicion.

Hello Guys, Iā€™m planning on entering the pool soon, Iā€™ve read the thread but I still have some questions. Iā€™d be glad if I can get answers.

1. I work in a bank (foreign operations, funds transfer). I canā€™t seem to find the NOC for this. The NOC I saw was for general banking officer and the duties do not really tally with what I do.

2. I have 1.5 years Experience from a bank, and another 10months experience from another bank(total not up to 3 years), but I have other work experience( customer service). Do I add all these as my primary occupation? And do I get references for all three?

NOC 10021. You can check the matching job title.

For your experience, add everything, so itā€™s more than 3 years. And get references for all three, hopefully you get an invite.

But keep tracking it. Once you have 3 years experience in the bank, you remove the customer services experience.

Good evening y'all,I'm here again o. Does gift deed have to be typed on an A4 paper? Does a lawyer have to draft it? Can it be done in a day?

You donā€™t need a lawyer to draft the gift deed or the affidavit of gift deed (these are two different documents). Check page 1 and youā€™ll see samples.

The gift deed is signed by the donor, the giftee and witness; while the affidavit is signed at the high court by the commissioner of oaths.

Both should be typed on A4 papers

Most of what i learnt about express entry was from Nairaland. I found out a certification i did in 2009 qualified for two or more degrees here. I learnt about gift deed here etc. Canada also has its own challenges but it cannot be compared to Nigeria. The quality of life, access to healthcare, peace of mind and amenities etc.

Even if your spouse is accompanying you, itā€™s not compulsory for them to write the IELTS.

As long as your points are sufficient to secure an ITA, then youā€™re good to go.

But thenā€¦ simulate your CRS score

Good morning all.. Iā€™ve been confused about this whole process. Been reading up and trying to see the best possible way for me to enter Canada thatā€™s not too capital intensive. Im looking at the express entry route though and I donā€™t know much about the PNP. I have a sibling there but 34 years old. I donā€™t know if anyone can put me through this or is there a WhatsApp group with people in the same situation as me? Thank you.

Please read from Page 1 here - https://www.nairaland.com/6829885/canadian-express-entry-federal-skilled/563#127028240

There are loads of information in the thread.

When I started the process in 2019, I spent like 2 days reading from Page 1. And I think then it was Part 9, weā€™re in Part 11 now. Trust me after reading for 3 hours, you will have a grasp of how everything works.

And if after reading you have specific questions, feel free to ask.

Hello good people!

I'm a first-time international traveller, and I have no idea how to go about booking my flight to Canada from Lagos. I'm due to travel in January and my final destination is Edmonton. With all the airline prices and options available, I need guidance on how to even start.

I've checked SkyScanner, related sites and airlines sites also, but it's a bit difficult to sort through. cry
I would really appreciate tips and suggestions.

Thank you!

Download the EgyptAir, Ethiopian Airways, and KLM apps, and search for flights from Lagos to Edmonton. Compare the prices.

Flight tickets for the end of the year and early January are actually more expensive.

Many airlines price their tickets in USD, so you might have to fund your dorm account. Alternatively, you can use Wakanow, but their prices are more expensive than if you do it yourself

Hello people, please I am new here. I was advised to come follow this platform as I prepare to submit my PR application and honestly I am grateful to the person. I have learnt a lot already.

Please I have a serious concern about proof of funds.
Can I use a new joint account to show our funds?

We are a family of 4 and about to sell some jointly owned land ( my husband and I) for our relocation but the issue is that none of us wants the money to be paid into the other's account due to some past issues around money. It's a long story, please don't dwell on it.

My question now is, is it wise to open a new joint account for the money to be paid into it and we then use it as main proof of funds while also showing our personal bank accounts?

Will this be a problem?

Thank you in advance for your help. I am grateful.

You can use a joint account.

However, you need to provide documents (land title documents, receipts, etc) from when the land was purchased and how you paid for it. If the land was a gift, you need to include it too.

You also need a solid letter of explanation explaining the bulk deposit into the joint account, and the entire transaction.

Good evening good people, please if I get to this point in my application, does it mean that I am done? If I sign and transmit, will there be forms to fill? I am asking because I keep seeing stuff said about IMM forms in previous pages and I didn't see any of that in my required document checklist.
Please am I doing something wrong or is that how it's supposed to be?

Please help!

Youā€™re not done yet. Here, your files have been uploaded but not yet submitted to IRCC. You can still substitute the files by uploading new ones at this point.

To submit your application, you MUST sign and transmit, and then it takes you to a page where you pay the Processing fee and right of permanent residence fees.

Your application is considered submitted when you receive an Acknowledgment of Receipt (AOR).

Good morning NL,
Please Iā€™m in a very bad dilemma and situation.
I have received a RFV email and amongst other things the email says my passport has to have at least 6 months validity which is to be submitted in 30days.
My dilemma is that my passport has 4 months remaining, I have captured and done biometrics at the Nigeria high commission London but I am yet to collect it.
The 30days expires tomorrow.
Please what do you guys advise.
Should I go ahead and submit the old passport that way? What is the implication?
Meanwhile I had earlier raised a web form explaining my situation and delay in getting a passport to ircc and I got no response.

Please help

Prior to you receiving your RFV email, did you receive an ADR asking you to submit a new passport?

You shouldnā€™t have waited till the 29th day

Iā€™d say you submit your passport immediately to VFS Kenya and you should have it stamped and returned to you in 2 weeks time.

Also include a letter of explanation and also send a web form explaining the reason for the delay and why you are submitting a passport that has 4 months validity.

You can also include that you plan to land Canada before the 4 months expiry date in your passport.

My PR journeyā€¦. šŸ’ƒšŸ»šŸ’ƒšŸ»šŸ’ƒšŸ»

First, Iā€™d like to thank God for making my relocation to Canada a possibility.

I started this entire process in 2020 by verifying by degree with WES and writing IELTS. I created my first Express Entry profile in March 2021 but that profile expired after one year as there were hardly any draws and IRCC was concentrating on the applications that were on hold due to Covid-19. I created a new profile in June 2022, hereā€™s PPR the timeline:

ITA (Invitation To Apply) - 3rd Feb, 2022
AOR (Application received) - 19th March, 2023
Medical passed - 12th April, 2023
Biometric completed - 17th April, 2023
ADR1 (Additional Documents Request) - 1st June, 2023
Submitted - 6th June, 2023
ADR2 - 27th July, 2023
Submitted -28th July, 2023
Passport Request - 21st August, 2023
Passport submitted - 22nd August, 2023
Collected stamped passport and copr - 29th September, 2023
Landed Canada - 18th October, 2023

Iā€™m not even going to lie, I love it here, the exposure, the diversity, the opportunitiesā€¦ everything. I was in downtown Toronto last week for 3 days and that City alone is motivating!!.

Iā€™m a Christian so I was always praying to God about this and thank God my prayers was answered šŸ’ƒšŸ»šŸ’ƒšŸ»šŸ’ƒšŸ».

This platform was really resourceful, when I came with all my questions, there was always someone willing to respond, especially Profgordons, Littyprincess and Gracious Words Thank you all so much.

Iā€™m grateful for my parents and siblings for their all round support.

If relocating is your dream, donā€™t give up. With proper research, itā€™s possible for you to achieve this dream. I am rooting for you

Congratulations!

Use https://possap.gov.ng/ to get your PCC

GTB does not include an email address in their bank reference letter, and they sign it electronically. Upload the bank reference letter GTB issued to you, as well as the letter of non-indebtedness and 6 months bank statement, and youā€™ll be fine.

When you bought the land, do you have payment receipts, bank transfer receipts, title documents issued to you? Include everything and do a letter of explanation

Thank you for the insight. My situation is that about a month and half before I got ITA (Note: I didnā€™t have the required POF in my account then) a considerable sum of money was given to me by my older brother (same parents, obviously same surname) to add to mine for my start up business. Then I got ITA, so will be using it as my POF instead. Do I need to do a gift deed for it or I just go to bank and collect my 6months statement then submit to IRCC?

Get a gift deed and an affidavit for the gift deed. Also provide his birth certificate, showing that you share the same parents, and any other document that establishes that youā€™re siblings.

Do not state that the funds were intended for starting a business; simply state that itā€™s a monetary gift from your elder brother.

And do a proper letter of explanation.

Hello Everyone,

I'm writing to seek guidance and advice based on practical experiences in Canada.

While I await the possibility of receiving an ITA with a score of 480 or below, I'm using this time to plan for my future career in Canada.

My academic background is in IT, but I've been working in HR and hold certifications such as SHRM-SCP. I understand that transferring HR skills might be challenging due to cultural and legislative differences. Therefore, I'm considering a shift to IT (or management consulting) to better prepare for the Canadian job market.

I'm contemplating a deep dive into backend engineering due to my interest in Object-Oriented Programming. Alternatively, I'm also considering data science and analytics because of my proficiency in tools like MS Excel, a bit of SQL, Power BI, and Looker Studio, which I've used extensively in HR Analytics and Payroll.

I would greatly appreciate your advice and insights based on your own experiences in Canada. Which pathā€”HR/Management Consulting, or ITā€”do you believe offers a wider range of opportunities, despite the competitive landscape? I visited Indeed to look at the figures, but real experiences would help also.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

I know of two ladies who worked in HR at my previous company. Both of them relocated to Canada and secured HR positions in less than two months after arriving. Though, one of them had to enroll in a Graduate Certificate program in HR.

I recommend refreshing your programming and data analytics skills and having CVs for HR, Software Development & Data Analytics. Apply for all these roles, as you never know which one you might land
