This thread sound so real and very educative too. The truth that I've come to realise again and again is that: the more you try to please a woman, the more you hurt yourself bcs they are insatiable but see your efforts at pleasing them as indications that you can do more. It's a game anyway, only the wise ones(men) have smth to show when the game is over.

@ op. nice one there!
This marriage of a thing is something else.

3. This one is actually the most bizarre. After all the talk about finishing the game with one man short every time he plays Barca, and training to play Barca with 10 men, why is this particular sending-off so important to him? Because it's Pepe, and Pepe has a particular man-marking assignment?
If we go by his earlier words, he had already made up his mind to lose a man in every game, and had prepared for it. You could even say that, by his words, he indirectly instigated those sending-offs. This was the third game in 2 weeks, and he had lost a man in the previous two games. Who was going to bet against any referee doing the same in this particular match?

We need answers.
Expecting something doesn't mean you wish for it or you really want it to happen and if given different options i believe he will surely settle for a full squad to play barca rather than just 10 men. Pepe was a very key factor in mou tactics of late and i don't think he has a man marking assignment but he just needs to operate at a certain zone where barca are most dangerous.

His words might have some relations to the red cards in the sense that the players will not look at the sending off solely from their point of view only as being the one to blame. But i don't believe any of those players purposely want to get a red card or a yellow card except in some rare cases like ramos and alonso to miss the next match.

I pray it doesn't happen again because this is the seventh time and hope i have given you some of the answers you need.

AjanleKoko:
1. Why did Real Madrid effectively stop playing after the sending off? It wasn't 5 men that were sent off, it was just one. In a previous game where a man was sent off, they regrouped and even pulled the game level. At this particular sending off they were even level at 0-0.
This was a different match with lot of hostility and even Uefa is thinking of investigating the whole incident that happened in this match. You don't expect them to react the same way all the time to a red card and this is a semi.final where even mourinho was sent to the stand also. Removing pepe changed the dynamics of the game and the tactics, so they have to adjust with time. I just want to look at it that they were very upset will the match and decided to settle for a draw. Red carding pepe will not have the same effect as red carding a di maria in my own opinion.

2. Why did Mourinho decide not to make any tactical substitution after the red card, but rather chose to look on as Messi tore the team apart? That is so unlike Mourinho. He could have closed down the game at 0-0, like he did at the Nou Camp last year. Rather, he chose to fume in silence.
Mou was already in the stands and you know that he is not allowed to interfere in the match. If you look at some replays he later wrote something in a short note to one of his assistants which was passed on to karanka. Moreover defense wise the only tactical substitute that will be effective is already in the pitch in the person of diarra. I don't think gago and granero are up for this kind of match or they can really deliver what mou actually wants them to do.

btw,
It goes to show that octopus predictions is crap. Its silly mythology come idolatory
I am sure we will give it all at the nou camp and that's why i said it is not over yet, the prediction by the octopus was different this time around. I am surprised by the change in method from predicting matches to predicting who will be in the final.

I think most sights got it wrong by saying he actually ate from the tubes which he didn't because he only sat on the Madrid tube after two minutes without eating the mussels. The interpretation also resembled what is happening now and i will post the write-up when i see it. I have not seen the videos as well but anyway is not that i am basing all my positivity on that.

We will go to the second leg and play to qualify, it is not over yet until it is over so there is still room to perform and make it to the final. So what will your line-up look like for the weekend match and we are playing at home for me i see the second string players and those red carded dominating this line-up.

Defenders: Carvalho, Pepe, Sergio Ramos, Marcelo, Arbeloa, Garay, Nacho

to say a red was harsh i may agree but that it was no card offense cos there was no contact is just too being bias!
I believe no one would have complained if he got a yellow card, even the whole media supports this fact even to the extent of if it actually made contact. The most disgusting thing is that even if he withdrawed his legs and held it little bit, pepe will still surely be penalized. My point is why such an amount of showmanship for a challenge that did not even make any contact with you that you even have to be carried away on a stretcher?.   undecided

World press agrees: Pepe did not deserve a red card

L'Equipe: "The biggest mistake in the game was Pepe's send-off"

Realmadrid.com

The world press coincides in deeming the red card Pepe saw against Barcelona as unfair and decisive in the outcome of the game.

Pete Jenson, The Independent (UK)
"Pepe was shown a red card for a challenge on Dani Alves after the break with the theatrical reaction to the foul ensuring the card was red and not yellow, as it should have been."

Daily Mirror (UK)
"Real defender Pepe went on 62 minutes for a studs-up challenge on Dani Alves. It was a yellow card at worst. But the Barcelona players surrounded Stark like a pack of wolves to demand action. The official panicked and produced red."

Jacopo Gerna, Gazzeta dello Sport (Italy)
"Harsh send-off. Without Pepe's questionable red card on the 61-minute mark the match couldn't have ended the way it did."

L'Equipe (France)
"In a match plagued by errors and confrontations, the most noteworthy was Pepe's send-off."

Marca (Spain)
"An excessive red card for Pepe left Real Madrid with ten men a fourth time against Barcelona."

AS (Spain)
"Stark's mistake was to call a red card when it should have been yellow, but his greatest sin was to deprive us of football."

El Mundo (Spain)
"Once again, Real Madrid ended the match with ten men against Barcelona following Pepe's challenge on Alves, interpreted by the referee as violent when a yellow card would have probably sufficed."

ABC (Spain)
"Stark arrived and made a mess of things by booking Pepe with a red card when it should have been yellow at worst. He killed the tie with one blow. He destroyed Real Madrid and gave wings to a Barcelona side that had begun to give way."

La Gaceta (Spain)
"Germany's worst referee unfairly sent Pepe off and killed the semifinals."

El Pais (Spain)
"Pepe tackled Alves on the right leg. The red card could have been yellow, but referee Wolfgang Stark sent the Madridista off."

Reyes, Rodriguez and Suarez discuss Real Madrid's chances of winning the Euroleague

Realmadrid.com

With Real Madrid about to head to the Euroleague Final Four, Felipe Reyes, Sergio Rodriguez and Carlos Suarez discussed the team's chances during an adidas promotional event. The three also sent a message of encouragement to their football counterparts: "All is not lost. You are a great team and anything can happen. It could be a great week for the both of us in Barcelona. We can win there."

Reyes:
"Winning Europe’s top prize in the city belonging to our arch nemesis would be very special. It’s a shame Barcelona is no longer in it because it would make it all the more special, but we haven’t accomplished anything yet. It’s going to be a tough road, but we will play our hearts out. We are a young team, but we have plenty of experience in these kinds of games. There is a lot at stake and we know what we have to do to win the Final Four. We are very motivated."

"Panathinaikos is probably the favorite after eliminating Barcelona, who won last year and this year hosts the Final Four. But I think all four teams are on a level playing field. We are all strong and powerful, so the games could go either way."

"Maccabi players are fast and can run the court. They also have solid players in the paint like Schortsianitis. We need to prevent them from running fast breaks. We don’t fear anyone or anything, but we must be careful in several facets. We want to have fun and play our game."

Rodriguez:
"There are several key factors being that it’s only a one-game series. Anything can happen. In a knockout tournament like the Final Four there is no team that is better than the next. You can rest a little easier knowing that you made it through the qualifying round and beat good teams in getting here. We are relaxed and excited about our chances. The Final Four is a special event, and this year it is even more important because it is being held in Spain and we are the last Spanish team standing."

Suarez:
"I think fans are excited about this competition and we hope to make them very happy."

Official Announcement

Upon learning of the unprecedented decision by F. C. Barcelona to lodge a formal complaint against Real Madrid C. F. coach Jose Mourinho with the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body, Real Madrid C. F. announces that it is obligated to follow suit concerning the repeated unsportsmanlike behavior of F. C. Barcelona, whose players consistently feigned aggressions with the sole purpose of misleading the referee of the match, which clearly led to the unfair decision to dismiss our player Pepe.

It is surprising that this chain of unsportsmanlike conduct and unfortunate decisiones finally culminates in the lodging of a complaint against our coach Jose Mourinho who, beyond opinions based on his right to freedom of speech, expressed his objection to victory at any price and the violation of the principles of loyalty, integrity and sportsmanship established in Art. 7 of the Preamble of the Statutes of UEFA and Art. 5 of its Disciplinary Regulations, by which Real Madrid C. F. expresses its full support of its coach.

The play that changed the course of what was an evenly-fought match was not worthy of a red card

Realmadrid.com

Much has been said and written concerning Pepe’s send-off against Barcelona in the first leg of the Champions League semifinal, but an image speaks louder than words and video from Realmadrid TV clearly shows the player only touched the ball. Thirty minutes remained in the match and the referee sent Pepe off with a direct red card following a lose ball dispute between Alves and Pepe. The rest of the play has been publically scrutinized far and wide. Alves, who obviously appears to be in pain, abandons the pitch on a stretcher. After consulting with one of his assistants, German referee Wolfgang Stark shows Pepe the red card one minute after the play took place. Once he saw the decision made by the referee, Alves made his way back onto the pitch in full stride.

It wasn’t the only controversial play of the match, however. Arbeloa and Pedro were involved in another incident. Thirty-nine minutes into the first half, the Madridista defender blocked Barcelona forward’s running lane. There was shoulder-to-shoulder contact, but no aggressive intent. Pedro fell to the turf and clutched his face, and the entire Barcelona bench stood up to continue protesting for the foul.

An ugly gesture that appears to have become a constant. Look no further than the images of the incident between Marcelo and Busquets five minute earlier; another lose ball and again, the Barcelona player ends up on the turf. It wasn’t Alves this time, but Busquets. The dive is just as obvious as Marcelo’s expression of surprise. Marcelo protects the ball with his body and Busquets goes over the Madridista defender's back and blatantly falls to the floor with his hands over his face. Another unsportsmanlike gesture and more fuel to the fire for the referee to deal with. It lasted for 90 minutes as millions around the world watched on the small screen.

The sports world cries out
Rio Ferdinand: "This diving is a joke/embarrassing. When Pedro watches that do you think he'll think, "What was I doing!?" Rugby players must laugh at football. If you ever see me go off on a stretcher then run back on to play, I give everyone on here the green light to him me with a two-footed tackle."

Michael Owen: "Alves' actions won't please many as if he had got straight up it would have been a yellow card, but Barça fans will be happy with his actions."

Rory Mcilroy: "Dani Alves, you are a disgrace. Roll about on the floor just a bit more!"

Chad Ochocinco: "I can't believe they just gave Pepe a red card for that."

In iker the octopus we trust grin tongue

AjanleKoko:
Sort of like Xavi at the weekend saying the CDR was lowest in his list of priorities. Sometimes the Barca team and players say a lot of nonsense, just like during the Cesc saga. They remain my team, but they must learn to zip it in times like this, and do their talking on the field.
Honestly speaking the hatred towards mourinho from the barca camp is just too much, i shaked my head when i read that quote from xavi. Why will you participate in a cup competition that is of lower value and aim to win it only to turn back and badmouth it because madrid won the cup.

Johann cruff is another person who cannot hide his hatred for mourinho every day in day out. I said it before that after that five zero scoreline, the most important thing is to win the main cups which is copa and champions league. Park the bus or ugly football, it doesn't matter because it is a process by which overtime we learn to play against this new barca team.

Barca introduced a very team like kind of play in attacking and defending which is causing problems for other teams so i have no problem if other teams packs the bus. Both of them are great teams and we should just enjoy football without these hatreds. Pressure will begin to mount on pep if he doesn't win the champions league this season and the next season will obviously be tough for him.

I really wish he stays but i don't think he will stay at barca beyond 2012 in order to just fight and defeat mourinho or prove who is more superior. The 5 -0 is the only important edge and the fact that barca dominates madrid for now but the results are important and how long will the domination be.

I foresee a future internet mourinho versus pep just like the never endless ronaldo versus messy in goals.com website.

* Real Madrid have twice beaten Barcelona at the semi-final stage en route to lifting the European Cup, in 1960 and 2002.

* Madrid, who have won the competition nine times, are aiming to reach a 13th European Cup final in what is a record 22nd semi-final appearance.

* In 211 previous meetins between the sides, Madrid hold the upper hand with 86 wins compared to Barcelona's 82. On 43 occasions the fixture has ended level.

* Cristiano Ronaldo headed a famous winner when the club’s met in the Copa del Rey final in Valencia one week ago. That match required extra-time to separate the sides, with the decisive goal coming in the 103rd minute.

* Ronaldo's goal on matchday 10 was Madrid's 900th in UEFA competition, making them the first team to reach that milestone.

* Wednesday's fixture will mark the 51-year anniversary of Madrid's 3-1 win at Barcelona in the second leg of their 1959-60 European Cup semi-final. That success, ensured a 6-2 aggregate win for the capital club, who went on to lift the trophy by beating Eintracht Frankfurt 7-3 at Glasgow's Hampden Park.

* The following season, this time in the first round, Barcelona caused something of a stir by eliminating the previously invincible Madrid. A 2-2 first leg draw was followed by a 2-1 win in the second match.

* When the clubs last met in the semi-finals, Real Madrid eliminated Barcelona 3-1 on aggregate before going on to beat Bayer Leverkusen in the final, which was again at Hampden Park.

* Barcelona don't have a great semi-final record, having won five and lost six of their previous 11 visits to this stage.

* Pep Guardiola’s side have only won two of their five away matches in the competition, but Real Madrid thus far have a flawless home record.

* Lionel Messi's goal in the second leg against Shakhtar Donetsk was Barcelona's 300th in the UEFA Champions League.

* Messi, who has a record 50 goals for the season, is the competition's leading scorer with nine goals. Boasting 26 shots on target, he also leads that category.

I am not arguing here that valdes or reina are better than iker or iker is better than the others including upcoming de gea. When will those players ever get the chance to represent their country if some old players do not leave the stage?

Iker should leave after the next euro nations cup or next world cup so that the other ones can do their bids as well. Raul, morientes and guti affected the emergence of the other stars just like xavi, senna and alonso is somehow affecting the chances of cesc, carzola, juan mata, valero and busquets. Sodaldo and lorente also need to wait for a long time before they will become regulars, even thiago alcanranta is on the waiting wing with david silva still very much around.

Still so many young stars coming up littered in the youth teams of barcelona and real madrid when the likes of granero, negredo, caceres, bojan, pedro, pedro leon and canales do not even know where they belong right now. The defence is fairly okay with ramos, pique and arbeloa coming up but who is going to replace puyol when he leaves?.
