Ederson is a better ball-playing goalkeeper than Valdes. His short passing is excellent and don't even get me started on his kicking. Valdes played in an era where teams rarely pressed high and forwards had lesser defensive duties. No be now, wey dem go give you back pass as a GK and before you know it, you go see Salah and Vinicius dem charging down on your goal like mad men. The only reason Valdes gets a mention is because of the novelty of what he was doing at that time.

Abidal was very good, no debate. I just feel Ake has been a revelation this season. Remember, we are not including career achievements, only the years under consideration. Abidal 2011 vs Ake 2023.

Ruben Dias is City's best defender when fit and it would be unfair to leave him out. Ake's performances this season has been exceptional; if there was an Alternative City Player of the year award, he would win it. Valdes wey dey dash opponents goals, the original otu keeper. He was an average GK with good ball-playing abilities, which Ederson even surpasses in my opinion.

Puyol was on the decline at that time, no thanks to injuries and age. It wasn't too long before Di Maria finally sent him to the retirement home Abidal missed a huge chunk of that season due to his liver condition, so Ake rightfully gets the nod.

The writer said Valdes was a better all-round GK than Ederson. LOL. I pretty much agree with the combined XI except for one; swapping Iniesta for KDB in central midfield. Iniesta would do better than KDB as an unorthodox LW, think Grealish, Bernardo Silva and Foden in this current City side.

No team in Europe top five league have won the treble without having to knock out Barcelona directly or indirectly. For example, in 1999 Barca finished 3rd in a group that had United and Bayern. United will go on to win the treble.

Unfortunately, we will never know. But I felt we stood a better chance with Nagelsmann, than with Tuchel. Nagelsmann knew the team better and the 3421 he was tinkering with, was the perfect match for Pep's setup. I still don't know why Tuchel ignored it, considering it was the formation he did a triple on Pep with, in 2021.

The issue wasn't even Bayern getting knocked out by City. It was the clear regression in the quality of the team's performances that led the inquisition of the guys in charge and Tuchel definitely takes a chunk of the blame.

When you take such big decisions, you better get it right or be ready to deal with the consequences of your failure.
