Really? Alaba is a sure-fire starter for Real. His calmness, composure, experience and organisational skills makes him the leader in that back line. A CB pairing of Militao and Rudiger with their rash defending could have disastrous consequences against a team like City. Alaba's ball-playing is also on another level compared to those two. City's pressing go mad at the Etihad and Real will need him.

I don't think Rudiger is a starter for Real when everyone is fit and available. Alaba has been injured quite a few times this season and has been filling in at LB at also. Militao has been their best defender this season and is an assured starter. But I'm not sure if Ancelotti will play him against City next week, after seeing how Rudiger dealt with Haaland yesterday.

You can point to individual errors such as Upamecano's against City putting a dent on Tuchel's work but these things happened under Nagelsmann and we still found away around it. We have conceded more penalties and had more players sent off this season than in recent times and we've still managed to get the job done.

Bayern were in a strong position before he took over. Nagelsmann would have beaten Dortmund anyway and I actually fancied our chances against Man City with him than with Tuchel in the dugout. Tuchel came in, tore up Julian's tactics and disrupted the rhythm of the team. He is not the biggest culprit here though, the clowns at the top that gave him the job are.

Tuchel doesn't have as much time as he thinks. Things escalate quickly at Bayern and he could be gone even before the end of the year. Losing the BuLi to Dortmund would be disastrous for him.

This man with his Thiago agenda ehn. But i agree with you sha. In a way, Bayern still miss him. That midfield pairing of Kimmich and Goretzka is great, but at the highest level, the subtle weaknesses in their game gets exposed. Kimmich's defensive game has improved but his limitations as a 6 is still visible especially in a 4231. Goretzka is an absolute dynamo, but sucks at build-up play and plays best when he has a robust midfield partner that allows him play slightly higher up the pitch. Thiago offered balance on both sides. Stronger defensively and even a better controller than Kimmich and still offers Goretzka's robustness with better football IQ and technique. Not to mention his knack for tactical fouls to disrupt dangerous opposition attacks. Kimmich really needs to learn this one especially when caught in transitions.

And you are right, Bayern may have not won the CL in 2020 without him. Pavard's injury was a blessing in disguise. It made Flick move Josh to RB and allowed Thiago back in midfield after returning from injury. Thiago isn't the perfect midfielder but I'm not blind to his contributions to the success of Bayern over the years. Dude has my respect everyday of the week.

PSG were actually doing great playing 3 ATB pre-World Cup. They just switched off, I guess. I personally don't see anything wrong with the formation. Bayern currently play 3 ATB and our performances have improved in recent games. It's just about having the right players in the right roles with a strong footballing philosophy.

I wasn't a fan of Nagelsmann playing 3 ATB last season despite the team playing well because 4231 had been our default formation in recent times. Fan and player pressure got to him, I think and he shelved it. We paid for it in the end with disappointing performances and a CL QF elimination at the hands of Villarreal. But I've now come to accept that it's not so bad and it might actually be the best system for the players we have now. We have continued to play well and score lots of goals playing 3ATB.

That 3ATB is outrightly a defensive formation is nothing but a myth. It all depends on the set up.
