In the violence of the last fortnight, the colonel's African connections have only served to rekindle a deep-rooted racism between Arabs and black Africans.

As mercenaries, reputedly from Chad and Mali fight for him, a million African refugees and thousands of African migrant workers stand the risk of being murdered for their tenuous link to him.

One Turkish construction worker told the BBC: "We had 70-80 people from Chad working for our company. They were cut dead with pruning shears and axes, attackers saying: 'You are providing troops for Gaddafi.' The Sudanese were also massacred. We saw it for ourselves."

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-12585395
wow, i knew this would happen, why did he have to get 'black' people involved? all i hear on the news about this is black africans commiting atrocities killing raping torturing etc. just another blemish on africans already filtly image.

OK everyone, drumroll please, i have discovered the solution to corruption in Nigeria!

transparency, at the state level the governor would make it mandatory for the commissioners, etc. to publish how much money they were allotted in a given month, and what they spent that money on. the records would be made public for scrutiny. this simple transparency law would drastically reduce corruption in Nigeria. because it would bring accountability to the system

the only reason countries like the U.S are not as corrupt as Nigeria is because of transparency. the government officials know they cant get away with it.
so they don't try.

How do you guys think asia got in the position to be supplying the world with thier products? PROTECTIONISM PROTECTIONISM PROTECTIONISM.

That is how hyundai started the korean goverment literaly outlawed any vehicle not assembled in korea. do you think hyundai would have been able to compete without this edge? no.

Africa is the least protectionist continent in the world and it shows.

So $66.7K per bus? That is a phenomenal deal, and a great price. Can anybody in Nigeria build an entire bus for under $70K? I don't think we can do that here in the US or even with Mexican labor; labor is too expensive. Maybe India can do it that cheaply.

Certainly nobody in Nigeria can.

I wouldn't be surprised if the bus costs $150k+ to build in Nigeria.
that is a great price, but what about the quality? with these kind of things you get what you pay for and china is not known for quality.

also wouldn't it be better for the govnt to invest in the domestic market? this would create tons of jobs remember,
that 150k is going DIRECTLY into the nigerian economy instead of china's. despite the extra cost isnt it worth it?

its the peoples money right? haha

cleopatra and most of the pharoes after alexander the great conquered eygpt were not even eygptians they were greek.

but I know for a fact that the early, true eygptian pharoes where black. nefertiti, and most egyptian women, for example were completly bald. they mostly wore wool wigs. kinda reminds you of african women today no? haha
CrimeWhat Do You Guys Think Of Extra Judicial Killings? by pleep(op): 2:59am On Feb 22, 2011
extra judicial killings are a big problem in Nigeria. but no one says anything because it keeps criminals off the streets.

what do you think? do these killings make Nigeria safer, or do they just indicate that Nigeria is a savage lawless country?

There you go again with the HE WAS GOOD BUT NOW HE IS BAD rap. When exactly did this man CHANGE, if at all He is the one who had a change of mind here?
like i said earlier, if there is something i do not know about Ghadaffi enlighten me. what has he done in that past that is so bad?

Kobojunkie:
I am not even referring to his being there for 41 years. I am addressing the claim that Ghaddaffi has changed. If you look at the man's history, what we see today is the same Ghaddaffi of the 70's and the 80's . . . . Only it seems your  perception of him is what has changed here today, maybe as a result of the fact that now we get to watch the massacre of opposition to his regime on LIVE TV!
the media has a habit of portraying ppl like hugo chavez, and Ghaddafi as villians, i have heard that ghaddafi is a terrorist etc. but  ive done a little research, and he didn't seem to be that bad.
but if you know something i do not know pls enlighten me.

I have heard of this line where every Libyan receives a monthly payment for being a citizen, but i never knew it was as much as US$ 5,000. A very foolish approach for a  nation in this century. However, i hope the new regime after the downfall of Ghadaffi would continue the payment else the whole revolution would be a ghastly mistake as the whole nation would likely plunge into a civil war when they stop getting their usual monthly stipend.
Indeed, and almost every oil rich middle eastern country uses this system. Quater wants to pay its citezens 3000 a month, up from 1500 at the beggining of the protests. they essentially bribe their citizens not to complain. the stability of the middle east is a sham.

PoliticsRe: Where Are the Nigerian Mercenaries Shooting Libyans In Cold Blood Based? by pleep(m): 11:59pm On Feb 21, 2011
This is nothing new for the arabs. One king of morroco had a personal army of 5,000 black slaves. another sultan in the ottoman empire had thousands of sudanese boy soldiers. why do they all do this?
PoliticsRe: Africa South Of The Sahara: What Are You Waiting For by pleep(m): 11:46pm On Feb 21, 2011
What we need is a real patriot to get into a high office. and compleley overturn the political system it must start at the state level.

How come the Libyan people do not seem to agree with your assessment of their government? If Ghaddafi has been so good to them, why are they revolting today, if Libya is much better and all? Why the sudden do-or-die to remove him from office?
dont get me wrong ghadaffi has overstayed in office.
but Most of the protesters are young people and have always known ghaddafi as their president. They naturaly would blame every problem on him,  im not saying he is an angel he has a poor human rights record an probably some curruption, but there is no denying he improved libya.  unemployment can make anyone angry but that is not neccecarily ghadaffis fault.

sorry to bring this up again, but all you have to do is compare libya to nigeria, the main difference is leadership. but libya is a much better place to live.

I hate to do this, but could please define "good"? You mean in much the same way we can claim Abacha was "good" for Nigeria? I mean some will argue that he did rescue us from Babangida(even it that ain't so factual) and the nation was most "secure" during his regime as well.

lol

We must keep in mind that all these 'strong men' in N. Africa were actaully very good for thier countries, they brought stability and economic growth, ( at least more than in the south) and i also liked his pan africanism.
