Mcy56: Hhmmm.. Well, I followed market to give updates mostly and to do jijo sometimes, sometimes I don't perform any activity in the market for weeks. Anyway, you said well. Thank you. I see you more as a trader and I don't think that is bad. A trader can be successful just like an investor . . Being a successful trader or investor requires different strategies and skills. Monitoring live trades everyday is for trader and not for investors ( I never said that is bad or wrong) An investor is more concerned with what is happening in the company he has invested and not the daily fluctuations in price. He can monitor is investment by following his companies with evaluation of quarterly reports and the economy at large. The only time he will be active in the market is when he has identified a stock to buy or to sell so as to get the best bargain. |

Mcy56: Being an investor pays, especially with good and healthy stocks. I'm really eyeing that section now with the digital trading in vogue.......one can always monitor his/her portfolio and the coys performances. Will just build on two stocks first, then start adding additional one by one as funds show. The secret is to lay low and strike during panic or bad news time when prices are low, by God's grace. If you want to be an investor, you have to unlearn this habit of following NSE live on daily basis.... |

Intercontinental bank, Oceanic bank, Skye Bank gave enough signs, I didn't not have diamond Bank shares so I am not sure if it gave signs. The signs were there in diamond bank for more than 3 years for those who were willing to see ..... |

Lion123: Silly question: Is there any possibility that there will be no markdown on stocks this year? Because everything is ridiculously undervalued - especially the banks. Marking down shares at these prices would be wickedness. How a healthy bank that made N208 billion in 2019 (and has more than N900 billion in retained earnings), is trading at a N600 billion market cap (barely 3X earnings), is perplexing. That is the irrationality in the stock market. And if the market has always been rational how will people be making money |

We hope stocks stabilize and gain the whole of this week and plans be put in place to re-balance portfolios. NSE is not only about virus...... FPI have been running away before the corona virus. |

mendes911: Boss, you know that if not for the present condition of markets, you woudn't have seen UCAP to buy at N4.00. Once a good result is released (Zenith no follow here ooo), it usually rallies immediately, does a small pullback and then do another small rally when dividend hunters surfaces towards markdown date.
Corona don change am for us this year. That was my calculation, to buy the pullback and sell to the rally that usually follows.... That corona is a bad somebody That being said, I think Nigeria (NSE) gets her peculiar problems. |

mendes911: Are you a trader or an investor? How long do you intend to hold this stock? Sincerly speaking, nobody here is sure of what will happen after markdown and also performance of UCAP this year. I don't know much about UCAP but I read a report saying that drop in T-Bills and its likes will affect their revenue going forward.
But if you are trader, buying into UCAP for the sole purpose of getting dividends and then japaa after that might be a wrong move. It might be possible for UCAP to gain 10% before markdown and traders usually benefit from such (if 10% shows up and they sell before markdown) but with the present condition of our market, nothing is certain. I attempted same with UCAP. Bought at N3.35 with the hope of selling before mark down in anticipation of a 10% gain. I am out with a nice head cut. The market is not smiling and things might get worse after the earning season I.e post mark down. |

[quote author=kolaish post=87036307]Certainly, this is not the best time to be in the market. A good investor should know when to buy and sell. We are in a sellers' market, anybody buying now is subjecting himself to torture. The only stock that is worth buying now is a company dealing with hand sanitizers, face mask and vaccine that could tackle Chief Corona. Though, yours truly is strapped with a seat belt inside JB and NAHCO simply because the exit door has been locked and key thrown away (No offer reasonable enough to rescue me ).[/quote Edited. |

I bought a day before qualification date and I was not paid the dividend. The explanation from my broker was that it will take 3 days before the stock settle in my account and I didn't take it further. |

I am not talking about being right or wrong. I see the market as a probability game. When we are taking position in a stock,we need to have a balanced perspective that it can go either way so that we can be prepared for any outcome. |

Mcy56: Panic selling by uninformed investors. Shaking off weak hands. Na my own I talk oo. You are interpreting the market from your biased position. What if uba pays less than expected dividend. Zenith dividend yield was above 10% and the price is still going down. What do you think will happen if uba final dividend yield is less than 10%. |

Mcy56: Thought I will see pre-market of all banking stocks on full offer at day's low, i.e. minus 10%, but I havent seen anything like that. We're waiting for market to open first. Keep an eye on gtb, if the sell off stops, the market will most probably be stable.... |

Mcy56: But you know this is NSE nah, things may change overnight. We are still not sure of whatever caused today's dumping. Maybe we will get the info before market commence tomorrow. The dumping did not start today... Gtb which is more or less a barometer for NSE has been on the downward trend since last week with heavy volume. And when you see that on NSE, you don't need anyone to tell you that there is fire on the mountain |

Banks can't sell FX to you and you can't transfer international what you deposited yourself.
Policy somersault in Nigeria. Counter productive. Don't think it is policy somersault..... The CBN is getting desperate in defending the naira... It always start this way and we already know the end result.... Devaluation. |

Biafran4life: Don't get carried away with what ever is been shared as report. The only report I can tell you is that lapo has been closing offices in some states living those who opened account in this states stranded. That mfb bank is one chance. The bank operated in a regulated environment. The audited accounts have to be scrutinized and approved by the CBN before being released to the public. For you to gauge the health of any bank, either mfb or dmb, there are key metrics you look for and not what people are saying which might be sentimental. CAR, Liquidity ratio and NPL ratio are very important and if those ratios among others are very solid I will gladly do business with that bank. |

However, I can find some useful information from the review by the rating agency up to 2017( no report for 2018 and 2019) If what we have there are true reflection of the bank operation performance, I will like to say that lapo is doing well. You will do well if you can post more of your bank financial reports as this will help many to form an opinion devoid of sentiment and generalization... |
