ositadima1: Please gurus, as a newbie I was planning on buying any of the top dividend paying stocks preferably UBA and Zenith. After collecting the dividend would I be able to offload as fast before rates start dropping again?
For example UBA is currently more than 50% above its lowest point for the last 52 weeks.
If I come collect 9% yield or something and loose 50% after he no go make sense o.
I dey try learn d work o. Uba and zenith are very liquid stocks. You can sell any time you want to sell. However, no one can say what the exact price will be after markdown but you can be sure it will not be at a loss of 50% |

ositadima1: Why is SMURFIT not traded, is it because they are the highest dividend paying firm on NSE ?
Nobody won sell their share? The stock is illiquid cos of very low OS. The dividend yield is very attractive just like you have observed. However, you have to note that the company doesn't release financial information in a timely manner. If you are a newbie, run from this kind of company. |

fxuser: - sure but I shy away from dem ,cause some dont know basic candle sticks to they dont really know wat they are looking at - Last week engulfing candle is very important , similar to that week in June when price moved from N9.75 on monday to Fri 11.55 (engulfing weekly candles are powerful trend signals showing a shift in trend (see access , uacn et al), d bearish ones too shud not be ignored, shows d end hehe) - anyways price broke above prev 8 week closures , so its a very bullish signal - FWD to last week , similar candle pattern or action, from n13.80 on Mon to 15.40 close even tested n16.30 highs were we saw profit taking - dat pattern is wat caught my attention not the FA or BUA blah blah, pipu knew wapco was cheap since Oct , its d move u want to be part pff not cheap , another story - so price broke previous 10 weeks closure ... gaddam , d FA buyers below are happy, they have been vindicated after many months - the bigger pic shows d support below N14 is now the new higher low, took time too, (since oct) - now we have a inside bar forming at the upper range of last week .. its a good time to buy some and letss watch how it unfolds - dat move or action from prev charts across d world suggest higher probability of higher prices , patterns are just summary of human emotions occuring again and again if u know how to spot dem Summary / Out look - a close above prev week 15.40 is also a buy - a close above 16.30 hig is also a buy (52 week high begat more 52 week highs ) Stop - a break below N13.7 to N14 support is a sell cause an up trend is series of HH (higher highs) and HL (higher Lows), breaking below a HL invalidates d trend
sorry for dis long banter ! trying to summarize sef is not easy , make i find d chart Thanks a lot for taking your time to do the summary. I always like to see the chart so as to aid my learning process. |

He controlled the media through his newspapers, daily radio show and weekly TV shows and monthly stock market seminars all over the country. This made him to have cult followership , I doubt if his numerous followers made lasting wealth.
I learnt he is now a Pastor with a church at Ikeja. After he failed on several attempts to relaunch his financial media empire I don't think he did what he was doing then to mislead people..... His was just a case of the blind leading the blinds. |

rebekah2011: The merger of SA business with Wapco to form Lafarge Africa was never a mistake. It was deliberate. Whilst, I must commend their decision to spin-off this unit to give the Nigerian shareholders a sigh of relief. I am still not convinced that the business can take on Dangote Cement in the interim. One can test the waters with one hand if the FOMO is an issue. Cement business is more profitable in Nigeria than elsewhere in Africa. Larfarge fortune has been going down since that devilish union with SA units. If they have concentrated those resources and energy on improving and increasing their capacity in Nigeria, they would have done far far better. The foreign denominated loan they took in the process inflicted heavy blow on them when naira was devalued. |

rebekah2011: Julius Berger should be able to do above N2 naira in dividend payments. Between Zenith Bank and Jb, I am confused as to what to buy. JB can easily get to N35 to N40 on the strength of stellar 2019 than Zenith Bank. Someone should help me here, please. If you are really confuse spilt the money into two and buy the 2 I have looked at the two companies and both are buy for me. However, giving the current market condition and the CP of both stocks, if I am to buy today JB will be preferred. Zenith on a stand alone basis cannot go far in price if the general market condition is tepid. On the other hand, If JB declares a better than expected result, price can easily move up irrespective of the general market condition. This is my personal opinion and I could be very wrong. Note: The two stocks are in my portfolio with JB bought at a lower price than cp. |

rebekah2011: I do not yet understand the excitement around Lafarge Africa. The repayment of loans it has made this year was down to the rights of 89b and I think about 10b from operations. The implication is that the balance of the 64b loans as at September 2019, how will they be able to pay this asap. The operating profit before tax is not robust enough to pay the loans asap. The coy has to find a way to generate more revenue than it is currently doing. However, this should not deter anyone from making money from the company as there are plenty of sentiments around it. The declining revenue should also be a source of concern to the shareholders. The attraction for me is the restructuring...... The loan repayment is not only due to right money, the South Africa operation has been spun off which gave them the opportunity to excise about 140b third party foreign loan from their books... A reduction of about 200b from 266b in a space of 9months is not moimoin and call for excitement! The reduction in revenue is mainly due to the exclusion of SA operation which is a blessing in disguise. You will notice that despite the drop in revenue there is an increase in profit which signifies efficiency and that is positive.... The eps is good compared to others in the sector when you calculate the p.e from operational profits. If you now factor in the profits made from spinning off of the SA operation, that is a bomb Also check the equity for 2018 and September 2019, that has also increased significantly They still have some hurdles to cross but I want to believe they are on the right path.. Most of the loans in their books are now the cheap ones and can easily be managed. Note; the SA operation has always been a drag on Larfarge since that marriage was made and it was a misadventure. |
