This is the best comment I have read on this thread.

I deliberately decided not to emphasize the income the wife brings to the table because the worth of a lady one wants to marry should be supremely above money. I like the way you said that she has to be worth that 50m.

I personally cannot marry or bring children into this world if I am not supremely capable to give them a good life. Not just life, a good one. As much as everyone is complaining about life being difficult in Nigeria, some people and their children will never understand what that means, simply because the parents have enough and more than enough. What money is required to live a good life, the man should provide, which is the easier part of the job. The harder aspect is the role of the wife and mother who is literally the superintendent of the home whether or not she has an income.

Brilliant contribution from you sir!

Belafonte:
I’m intrigued when I read comments like this. So, if I have 20m in cash & investments, what value is the woman bringing to the table?

Do note, that I don’t think I’ll be ready for marriage if I don’t have 50m in cash & investments, but whoever I’m marrying has to be worth that 50m

This is a real father. At almost 90 who does he need to impress?

I still remembered my first time meeting a famous billionaire in Nigeria who was to award a contract worth millions of naira to me. I had traveled to Nigeria to meet him in his private office. During the meeting he had asked quite a number of employees (some taking more than 1m pay monthly, I later found out) to come to his cavernous office to interact with me. During the interaction I noticed something very interesting. This billionaire's dressing and shoes were just so common, durable but nothing expensive, while many of his employees wore very good and apparently expensive clothes and shoes. If one doesn't know this man you might have almost thought that he was a secretary to one of those employees.

The babe is 100% right. Some people though stinking-ly rich would never develop taste for expensive clothing.

Why am I not surprised. I never for once believed that even the president didn't know he was putting forward a corrupt person for the job. Even when the senate repeatedly refused to confirm him on issues bordering on corruption, Bubu refused to remove Magu. It isn't difficult to put 1 and 1 together... If we investigate deeper we might just find out that even the Malami that is the present crusader might not be clean after all. Corruption in Nigeria is simply a political tool for moving the loot from the pockets of some people (opposition, Yahoo boys, and innocent people alike) into the coffers of the people presently in power.

Once another set of people take power they too will sing the songs of corruption, and we know how that rings. As Nigerians we should not be deceived for a second. Even the current happening is possibly because of negotiations gone sour.

No, it is not entitlement. It is simply making sure men take care of their wives and family as opposed to competing with their wives. That is the duty of man.

Funny thing is, many ladies attack me on this platform and they are not going to think for a second that I qualify to be a feminist.

I am, like my President, equally shocked by her post.

People keep diminishing the role of money in marriage when in reality it is almost practically the foundation of everything married people will ever talk about. Like every single thing.

And about marrying a man with vision, people should not be deceived. Let him already start reaping sufficiently from his vision before you marry him. There are no bigger dreamers than poor people. That's a fact. I have met so many of them, with lofty but impracticable ideas. Dreams, visions and ideas will not feed you and will not keep you alive when the chips are down. It is the fruit of the vision... What is wrong in you at least making sure that those visions have taken root before you marry a man?

If people here like they can keep on demonizing ladies by calling them broke. If I will every marry I will always 100 % pick a broke girl that gives me peace of mind and that will be my true friend over a lady who is a billionaire... Any day and everyday, simply because my family's thriving will not depend on her income. Any income she might bring will simply be the icing on our cake.

Men should stop trying push their roles to women, women are already doing a lot being workers and wives and mothers. If anyone wants to be sincere, compare what the average day looks like for your mother and your father. No pun intended here.

We men should sit up and get our shit together.

yettymuse:

Same here.
But unfortunately many Nigerians believe it is their calling to marry, no matter how unfit they are. Some genes are simply not worth perpetuating; and yes poverty is to a good extent genetic.

FamilyRe: Nigerian Ladies Stop Marrying Men That Are Not Already Rich by pmoye(op): 7:17am On Jun 22, 2020
You're not wrong actually. Our society should probably start normalizing both men and women remaining single. And this should have nothing to do with religion or being a nun.

Broke-ass woman?? I disagree on that. The humongous amount of ego our men carry into marriage relationship disqualifies them from insisting on the women bringing in equal amount of money. Any woman who does that should be given a merit award by the husband. If you can forsake your ego as a man, and your native sense of entitlement to implicit respect from your wife, then you can reasonably expect your wife to bring money in.

What makes you the head in the marriage is not because you have a dick and ego problem, it is because you do indeed cater for your entire house. We shouldn't make mistake about that. Enough of all the weak and incompetent men we have around who continue to find the slightest excuse to ask their wives to bring in money.

If you are not capable as a man, regardless of your age, simply stay away from marriage. In the alternative, you can have girlfriend who is also not interested in marriage. Until you are fit, don't irresponsibly marry and don't get any woman pregnant.

FamilyNigerian Ladies Stop Marrying Men That Are Not Already Rich by pmoye(op): 7:03am On Jun 22, 2020
This is advice is really for Nigerian ladies. Please and please do not marry a man that is not rich. Your very life will depend on it. You heard me... How long you live as a woman may well depend on how rich your husband is. This may seem like an over-generalization, but a very needful one. Quite a troubling percentage of Nigerian men can not handle a woman who is more financially buoyant.

Ideally it shouldn't matter how much each person earns, because I believe that the husband and the wife should be one financially. That the home should be planned like a company with budgets, financial planning, sound auditing and all... But from the much we have seen around the average Nigerian family is far from this ideal. We often have what increasingly looks like a union that appears more to serve a cultural/societal expectation, a union that is sustained just so that the society can think you are happily married, while between the man and the wife it is more like between US and China, between Northern and Southern Nigeria, a perpetual cold war and bitter jostling for resource allocation and control.

I have seen women who have died because the husbands couldn't afford antenatal care and used ego-motivated argument to keep the women from accessing timely medical care... And of course, few years or even months after that those wicked men would later bring in other wives into the house.

The poorer the man, the more wicked, the more angry, and the more deadly he generally is in Nigeria. Do not let any man or any woman convince you to marry for love. There is no such thing as that, just a queer surge of hormones that makes you think you are in love. If you marry a poor man for love, hunger and suffering will soon reset your thinking, and by then most women feel too culturally compelled to remain with the toxin of a husband they have. Take a cue from evolutionary development in animal kingdom generally where females select the most suitable male for mating.

Do not simply believe in a man's future plans and dreams. If he doesn't have money now, he is not ready to be a husband. No matter how much you think you love him, treat him like the case of AS genotype (yours) marrying an SS genotype (his). And this is something I respect some Igbo men for. They will never think of marrying a woman unless they are economically ready.

If he is earning N30,000, or N40,000 or N90,000 per month he is not ready to marry. These are just examples from posts I have seen around here. Do not be fooled, the amount on the payslip is not always available for taking care of the home. But that's the talk for another day.

Some of us are probably never going to get married, I personally find it very scary to read about how men because of poverty increasingly turn against their wives in marriage... I may be too traditional though, because I do not fvcking care the money the wife is bringing into the house. Her role as a mother and a wife is already supremely more than you need to compensate for as a man. If you are a man, do not get close to a man when you are still poor. It is wickedness. It is dishonesty. It is crime against humanity. Do not sell her a future hope of becoming a pastor and other popular silliness.

Marrying a lady when you cannot completely and single-handedly take care of her is gender violence. Stop it.

May your wisdom continue to increase!
The best way to make the wrong judgement in life is to listen to the woman's side of the story alone. A woman will NEVER tell you anything she has done wrong. Never! In matters like this she will paint the picture of how exemplary she has been and how the man is the devil incarnate. Devil, devil, and you born each other 1 million children!

This marriage thing dey fear me self. Perhaps the man is somewhere almost killing himself for his family now, why the wife is silently fantasizing about how to get enough money and run away. Men should really start de-emphasizing marriage; it's more of a scam against men nowadays.

Married men sleeping with their wife sister or maid: let's talk about it.

I was shocked what I heard my neighbours maid telling someone behind my window how my neighbour refused to settle her and what she is planning to do to him.

From the gist the maid said since she came over to live with my neighbour she has never had rest.
My neighbour just say Mr John (I have to change the name for safety) lives with his wife and two little kids. And he is a contractor while his wife works as an accountant in a thriving company. So she leaves very early to work leaving the two little kids at home. Initially her mum was staying withe the kids till she left.

So now the man and the wife goes out together leaving the kids with the maid.

The issue now is, very early the man will dress up with the wife and escort her to the junction sometimes even enter car before her on their way to work.

But in less than 30 minutes he will be back home. By then the maid has drop the kids in school.

The next thing straight to the maids room and ...... Till he is done.

She said this has been going on for weeks. And the issue now she too want to gain or else we will make sure madam finds out. If he refuse to settle her.

Let's talk about it. Some case is the wife sister. Or even worse case

Na the madam dey worry the house keepers (boys)...

From the post I have been seeing on Nairaland I am actually happy these days. It appears Nigeria is having a re-awakening. The young generation in particular. Increasingly Nigerian youths are seeing the lies embedded in religion. Also thanks to COVID19... All the people that had been made to believe they would die if dem nor come Church, some of them will know better now. That it's no more than using fear-mongering to cajole and dupe them.

Christianity EtcRe: I Have Made Up My Mind To Leave Religion, It's Not Worth It. by pmoye(m):
Just wait for the herd from the deluded lands to come for you. Awon omo Daddy GOs won't like this post at all.

I have come to the conclusion that there's no way you'll be highly intelligent and at the same time be comfortable in any religion. This is simply because intelligence drives you to ask questions and you will never be satisfied with anyone asking you to use faith to bridge the gap of ignorance or to use faith to imagine the ignorance doesn't exist.

Religion is the tool of losers, those who have accepted the horrible fate forced upon them by their collective irresponsibility and fear. In fact, I believe the concept of heaven and paradise was either a mental contraption developed to make sense of man's suffering in his present state on earth, or a senseless imagination of someone on drugs.

Religion appears to be a lazy mind's tool to make sense of things loftier than himself. More like a tale told to a child to explain inconvenient phenomena. Like when a child asks you, "Mummy where do babies come from". Then the mother goes, "Santa Claus brings them".

Religion is the "Santa Claus brings them" which only serves the purpose of quietening the child for the time being, but is both illogical and useless.

Kenplay:
With my personal Experience, Observation and inner conviction, I think I dont want to be part of any religion again. This thing is truely an opium of illusion meant for people who cant take their destiny in their hands and for a sheeple masses.

Despite withdrawing from religion I found myself even having a better moral compass which I cant explain. We are throwing away common sense, hardwork and universal principles to leave in illusion. At the end of my observation I have come to the conclusion that its what you do for yourself that counts more.

When I see poor people dying of hungry in a country which have the capacity to be the global industrial hub I know we have throw away common sense, Nigeria biggest investment to South Africa is Religious buildings (Church) while here in Nigeria the South Africans brought us MTN, DSTV, SHOP RITE e.t.c which employs thousands of people and gives profit to our Investors inventing in the stocks and shares of those companies I realise religion is lack of common sense.

No amount of religion can make you succesful without application of common sense.
No amount of religion can make your marriage succesful without application of common sense and consideration for your partner.
No amount of religion can a nation grow and prosper without application of common sense, productivity and good policies.

At the end of it I think am leaving religion, its not worth it. Even uprightness and moral comes from a person inner conviction and not because of religion.
FamilyBible/quran Or Science: Which Would You Teach Your Children? by pmoye(op): 12:59pm On Jun 19, 2020
I know I am making a big assumption here, that Nigerian parents really read and understand the religious books they like to use in training their children. The Bible and the Quran in particular. At the end of the day they often know no more than a few well-rehearsed verses that support the ministries of their religious sect leaders. Only very few Nigerians have the liver to truly seek knowledge about the validity of these religious books, and fewer still have the courage to ask very difficult questions. And when you ask them those difficult questions, they will tell you God knows and that it isn't important for them to know.

You would almost think that the religion they follow is afraid of investigating and knowing the truth.

There is however an alternative founded in evidence-based thinking. I have used the word science as a broad description for this specifically because the tenets of science are based on drawing inferences and conclusions from observations made. In effect science never really concludes but remains open, keeps an open mind to various possibilities. Science is never afraid of reversing itself and it continually updates the state of understanding once new evidences appear. If there's a tool created by God to make man come into his full nature, then that too must be science and not religion. A universal God call not have a partisan religion that only serves to emphasize the superiority of certain races of men.

A large part of the progress man has made has come directly from rational thinking and evidence-based discoveries. But these two dominant religions in Nigeria asks that you throw your brains away and simply believe... To seek evidence in the first place is to be disqualified from holding the faith. For obvious reasons, my model disciple of Christ is Thomas because he espouses the correct attitude to things.... doubt until you have reason to believe. And according to Biblical account, Christ honored his doubt, his refusal to hold a belief unless he personally confirms it. The same happened to the Berean Christians.

It is clear that religion doesn't really work for us as a country. Isn't it time that we started training our children to be rational thinkers instead of continuing to mill out citizens incapable of using their brains constructively to elevate the society? Our enter politics and yahoo-yahooism can be traced to these religions...

As a parent, which would you prefer to guide the training of your children?

For me I will prefer to train them to be rational, questioning, and curious human beings, to doubt religions but to know about them as a means of relating and negotiating with their own environment.

You even have the strength and time to respond to decidedly human entities that need to be ignored. Individuals who panic whenever a discovery is made in science. It is very interesting really to think that human life currently owe more to scientific discoveries than most of the unfounded delusions they call faith that only serve to divide, kill, and destroy.

Buliwyf:
Science deniers will flood here now

First, you are very ignorant. The existence and proof of dinosaurs have nothing to do with atheism. There are both theistic and atheistic paleontologists.

Secondly, this dinosaur foot is a hundred times more real than your Abrahamic god. If there is a God, it certainly isn't the one that creates humans then puts a fruit they aren't supposed to eat in the same garden with them even though he is omniscient and knows they will eventually eat it.
And when the humans inadvertently ate the fruit he knew they would eat, he got angry and instead of forgiveness and resetting the system he decided to sacrifice himself to himself but not before impregnating an unsuspecting virgin. Later the same god got angry because his angels came down to have a piece of the fine big human asses too.
Then later even after the sacrifice many people were still doing evil so he sent a thousand teachers to create a thousand conflicting teachings and denominations to further confuse and cause rancour within humans even though he is omnipotent and can appear in the sky and to everybody at the same time to set the record straight and stop all the divisions because he loves us all so much and would not want to see us perish. But no he chose the most ineffective and silly way possible and left us at the mercy of human vagaries and bias.

At least scientists can give us proof. There is carbon dating and different strata of soil to back them up. They also gave us planes and the phones you insignificant entities use to attack them. If we ask you to show us a proof of your god now you will be telling us stories that cannot be backed up in history. Just fairytales that even the Jews in Israel whose goat-herding ancestors started the story take as cultural anecdotes mostly.

Your god does not exist. Just fairytales stubbornly held on to by people under great economic burdens and deprivation.
