EducationRe: IPPIS: Buhari Approves Payment Of February, March Salaries Of Varsity Lecturers by pmoye(m): 10:26am On Apr 22, 2020
Not everything must be explained as a plot against the Easterners.

We know Bubu is a plague, a scourge on the common patrimony of this country. Yes we do. We also know that ASUU as well as other individuals and interest groups in Nigeria deserve better than the directionless leadership we have been cursed with in this country... But we shouldn't always imply that other Nigerians have nothing better to do with their time and attention than to sit and plot all day "to suffocate the survival of the easterners".

As unfair as our election system is, it is what we have at this time. The North has figured out how to exploit that system. It is either the South, along with the South-Easterners, also figure out how to exploit that same system or then evolve a new system that favours them. No one is going to go to the South-East, South-West, or any other region to offer them public offices and appointments on a platter. If you want it, you have to get off your self-pitying " left BUTT-cheek" and fight for it. Enough of blaming every other region for the lack of vision of our regional leaders.

makewetalk2:
It is shocking to know that Lecturers have not received their salaries for February until now. That is two months of salaries held. This evil man sits in Aso rock only hiring northerners and his relatives and friends. He has turned the country into a family affair. This man called Buhari is evil. Even after all the appointments, they could not do a single thing. They thought it would be party as usual until coronavirus stopped the show.
Buhari's daughter was using the presidential airplane like a personal travel jet.
Old man Abba kyari whose contagious body should have been burnt was transported on a national military airplane.
All these things were happening while lecturers were home waiting for their salaries.

I have come to see that the agenda of this current dispensation is to suffocate the survival of the easterners. This comes at a very high price for others. From their slurs and twitter posts, I have seen how they refer to non-northerners are "southerners".

Let it be known that since independence Nigeria will be 60 years this year and the North has been in power for 37 years. In these years, they have embezzled the Nigerian coffer like never before. Abacha was in power for only 4 years but imagine the billions of dollars this man embezzled yet Buhari proclaimed him righteous. Buhari affirmed that Abacha did not loot but he is receiving Abacha's loots from other countries.
Forbes reports that Abacha stole at least $5B as of 1996. And Bill gates was only worth $18B at the time. Michael Bloomberg's net worth in 1996 was $1 billion but now $60.1 billion. All the money is the north has no direction. No brain as to what to do with it. Buhari's daughter said that she is an artist. ASStist my left BUTT-cheek.

We need to do something about sexual violence in Nigeria including all forms of culturally acceptable sexual harassment, FGM and breast-ironing. Something definite.

Nairaland GeneralRe: Is Modern Medicine Better Than Traditional Medicine? by pmoye(m): 9:59am On Apr 22, 2020
It is a capital YES.
We cannot even begin to compare modern medicine with the so-called traditional medicine. I could go on and on talking about the history of medicine to substantiate my position, but it is sufficient to point out one important fact. And that is, that traditional medicine evolved over time into what we now call modern medicine. That should immediately show that by discarding the plethora of faults with traditional medicine humans have been able to evolve modern medicine. In essence what we have is not a traditional medicine-modern medicine dichotomy, but more of the past of medicine and present medicine. Trying to compare the two is like trying to ask whether or not it is better to start trekking (traditional medicine) at 9:00 am from Lagos to London for a meeting you have at 3 pm in Stratford, London. Taking a direct flight (modern medicine) you're likely to arrive at least an hour late; which underscores the fact that going by plane in itself is not a perfect solution, but is infinitely more sensible than trekking.

One more thing, don't accept the surrender of that id.io.t, give him a taste of his own violence.

Well, humans (not just Africans) should imbibe the habit of diligence. You decidedly missed the point in the present case by trying to adopt the posture of the defender of the victimized. Someone had the temerity to share the testimony of how he "summoned up courage to go into my 6th jamb with expo I got in a forum online", and I specifically picked on him to help realize that he had not really cheated the system but himself. And then you jumped on like a crusader hungry for blood... Education (not mere certificate) is of primary benefit to the individual and only secondarily beneficial to the society. You come across as someone who has been properly educated, and I don't think you had that education simply awarded to you without going through the process...

It is high time we started telling one another the hard truth on this platform; we shouldn't encourage bad behaviour. And this is one of the few platforms most suited for this purpose simply because most people don't give the tiniest Zap who you are. In the real world, only few of those some of us exchange comments, pleasantries and abusive words with can operate in the same social cycle in all things. But that is the beauty of Nairaland: one often finds secondary school fail-out calling a professor uneducated; a jobless person abusing employer of labour; a lazy e-beggar describing someone holding multiple jobs/businesses as pathetic... The anonymity is the beauty. And this has nothing to do with dividing Africans or using the so-called language of subjugation on anyone. As Africans we should step outside the shadow cast by the dark days of colonization (if you're raised in Nigeria you have no decent claim to the ill of slavery); no, it's not everything that must be interpreted in the light of slavery. Refusing to clap when people cut corners, cheat the system, rape girls/boys and they openly celebrate it is not the way to unite as Africans. A society that refuses to speak up against these ills so as to avoid shaming the individuals involved has already failed.

Your input was well considered at every point.

merahki:
I am tired of fighting already so have a good life too. But on this issue I was going to continue, because the subject (grammar policing)is a pet peeve of mine.
Anyway consider my input.
Will attach an e-book to this post later. Written by a nairalander...you may find it and other reads in its bibliography interesting.
By language of subjugation I meant that of the people who enslaved and colonized Africans. It was used to divide Africans into two groups- “the bright and the itibolibo”. Its use is one of the main reasons why we can’t create/innovate, etc.
It should be the last thing Africans should use to shame one another.
Cheers.

Subjugation: the action of bringing someone or something under domination or control.

You're now just blabbing. People rarely make sense when they blab. Give it another try, you just might accidentally make sense this time.

merahki:
Lol
Glorying in your language of subjugation.
You should be ashamed of any desire or compulsion to speak or write your darling Inglis perfectly well...or of the need to shame people who are “bad” at it.

But I have a question (you needn't answer though): whatever makes you think you are better than the girls twerking for cash? At least they
are providing a service in exchange for the money they receive. They are infinitely better than someone (like you) who does babiala-adura-agba on different threads, expecting free cash for nothing. You should show some respect to those girls; twerking is a specific skill.

I cannot count how many rape victims (ladies, including married women) that I have had to counsel whose live have effectively been ruined as a result. And it disturbs me the more to observe that the Nigerian system supports rapists...especially the police. If I have a daughter or son and she/he gets raped by any f.o.o.l I would literally deal with the person in a way that he/she would never again do it to anyone else. Most rapists are serial rapists and they directly feed off the system that is annoyingly supportive of their criminal pastime.

When I was serving in the North years ago, my stockbroker mistakenly transferred N3.4 m to my bank account. I was waiting for him to call or something, he never did. Neither was it reversed by the bank. That evening I called him and told him what had happened. The second day I went to the bank to return the money to him.

Whether it was right or wrong to have done so (according to street-smartness) I wouldn't know; but then I wanted to build wealth that I could confidently say was cleanly mine.

For a good reason too. It is too early for us as a country to evolve a platform for people to gleefully brag about cheating the system. Education is a personal gift one gives oneself, and by cheating the system one ends up with self-sustained injuries... We have thousands of students who are faithfully going through the process, and who deserve admission slots more than those who cheat... We shouldn't celebrate moral decadence that inflicts injury (directly or indirectly) upon others.

If that my friend had allowed himself to go through the process, he would have been better for it. And perhaps, he wouldn't be dropping his bank accounts on different threads asking for alms. (No pun intended).
