Jokes EtcRe: World Leaders Explains Why The Chicken Crossed The Road by PointB: 5:57pm On Apr 28, 2013
Boko Haram:
The chickens do not want amnesty; they want unconditional release of their members in detention. They also want a chicken republic where strict Islamic codes will be observed. It is haram for chickens to seek western education. The President, is an infidel, and must convert. Otherwise, the chickens will continue to cross the road.

Too long, monotonous, repeative, boring, and not in anyway funny.

A poor copy cat job!
PoliticsRe: Installation Of 10,000 Security Cameras In Lagos Stalled by PointB: 8:23am On Apr 27, 2013
Chidexy hit the bullseye in this debate when he raised the issue of enabling law. CCTV will certainly help in detection and resolution of crimes, it can also prevent it. But it is important to have a nationwide approach on how to go about the proliferations. The issue of privacy, data protection, storage and retrieval procedure has to be articulated in a CCTV governing law.

Rather that the LASG to continue passing the blame to FG, it could get it's ACN lawmakers to push for a CCTV law at the NA that will support their position. I personnally dont want some ACN/APC/PDP thugs laying their dirty hands on my CCTV data willy nilly.
PoliticsRe: Reps Want Perimeter Fencing Of Nigerian Borders by PointB: 4:06pm On Apr 26, 2013
HNosegbe: You're not getting my point.

On border towns, there's hardly any distinction between Nigerians and non-Nigerians.

Also, perimeter fencing without a national identification system is useless because there is no way to identify who is a Nigerian and who is not.

Besides, how will the issue of illegal immigrants who are already in the country be addressed?
The point is not identifying who is Nigeria or not at the border town. What is is more important is identifying the boundary and demarcating such (with perimeter fence). The perimeter fencing is not simply an attempt to restrict free movement of non Nigerians, it is rather aimed at restricting smuggling of weapons, bombs and bomb making devices across the porous borders. The issue of national identification, or and illegal immigrants in the country is secondary to securing the border from terrorists who smuggled rocket launchers, anti-aircraft missiles, and other heavy weapons into country to unleash them on innocent citizens and security agents, as witnessed in Baga.

HNosegbe: grin grin grin

Perimeter fencing. Like really? Are our leaders this dull?

We don't even have a national database of Nigerian nationals, and they want to erect perimeter fencing? How will they differentiate between Nigerians and non-Nigerians?

And what about border towns like Seme? Will they be split in two? Oh I get, we're gonna have our own "Seme wall".

grin grin grin
I least expect this from you.

The perimeter fence will only prevent illegal entries/exits. The entries/exit through the approved border post will still be subject to normal checks.

The more inportant question is:

How many votes does Rotimi Amaechi commands in the larger scheme of things?
PoliticsRe: Reps Want Perimeter Fencing Of Nigerian Borders by PointB: 11:18am On Apr 26, 2013
Okija_juju: We are talking about a mighty stretch of land and water borders here.

My problem with Nigeria is their half assed approach to solving a problem. Example:

1. Armed Robberies and Car snatchings: The Nigerian Police set up Checkpoints all over the country. Still yet, these things prevailed.

2. Kidnappings: More checkpoints. Still they were kidnapping people by the dozen a day. Infact in Aba where the checkpoints were manned by the Nigerian Army, A bus full of school children was kidnapped and driven out of the city.

3. Kidnapping (Post removal of Checkpoints): They ban tinted glasses. LOL! Forgetting that most people that were kidnapped were taken away in Police Pickups and not tinted vehicles..

4. Boko Haram: Send in the Army (Brute force).. This is obviously not working..

5. Boko Haram insurgency: Fence the country.. grin

6. Fuel Subsidy Scam: Increase the pump price of fuel..

Like seriously!! Are we seriouos in this country at all.. What happened to;

Increased border patrol?!
Helicopter patrols?!
Electronic sensors?
CCTV
Neighbourhood watch patrols
Building watch towers?!
Animal patrols
UAVs

Na wah o!! Fencing Nigeria would be outrightly ridiculous and you know it!
Some of the options you propose are cheaper, some are expensive but not effective.

My point remains that, a combination of fencing with some of these option will work better than any the above option with perimeter fencing.

The fact that the Reps proposed fencing does not necessarily means that the whole stretch of the border must be walled.
PoliticsRe: Reps Want Perimeter Fencing Of Nigerian Borders by PointB: 10:55am On Apr 26, 2013
Okija_juju: Fencing should be the last option after all else have failed..

QUESTION 1: What measures have we tried to use in border protection before now?!
Obviously border patrol has not worked, and you can cover the massive border with patrols. A combination of fences, ditches, etc will help the situation.
PoliticsRe: Reps Want Perimeter Fencing Of Nigerian Borders by PointB: 10:52am On Apr 26, 2013
Okija_juju: Do you know how much that would cost?!

Imagine what you want to fence...
Not as much as a lives that would be saved if terrorists are restricted. In any case, not the whole border should be fenced. A combination of fences, ditches, and natural terrain will do a good job hindering the terrorists.

Everything shouldn't be about money.

PoliticsRe: Reps Want Perimeter Fencing Of Nigerian Borders by PointB: 10:29am On Apr 26, 2013
I support the idea of perimeter fencing, especially at the Northern borders to prevent the upsurge of terrorists, and weapon smuggling through neighbouring countries. It should however complement the border patrols.

A good fence, actually, makes good neighbours!

PoliticsRe: Lagos Speaker Vows To Take Fashola Down With Him by PointB: 8:31am On Apr 26, 2013
The speaker also said he will not go down alone because he is only being accused of stealing N500 million when the governor is stealing in billions. After raising all the dust, he went ahead to ask the committee chairmen to join him in the fight against Fashola by digging out dirts from the various ministries.”
Interesting.

Writing is a dangerous hobby; the writer should have know this.

It was very wrong of him (a public servant) to have publicly criticize his superior without getting his facts rights let alone re-echoing the events of 1966 in such manner.

His crocodiles tears is noted.
PoliticsRe: Let's Have Your Complaints, Suggestions & Enquiries Here by PointB: 11:52pm On Apr 22, 2013
Ikenna,
Thanks for gracing my complaint with a response even though you never really address the reason why you ban Onlytruth in the first place. I hope he accepts the apologies.

Let me say that the task you embarked upon is is ardous and you will need all the co-operation you can get. But turning upside down several establish codes (written and unwritten) will most likely work against your objectives. It might be easier, and more prudent to co-opt a few people/individual(s) rather than attempting to use brute force.

Keeping things cordial with those who matters (and those who you think dont matter) is a trick you should learn in politics section. There are those who genuinely wish you well and those who will do whatever necessary to ensure you fail, it is in your hand. Just understand that the end does not always justify the means.

I mistakenly took your post on onlytruth as part of the debates that was clouding this thread. Apology.

Thanks.
Apology accepted.

Let's hope Ikenna responds to my complaint.
PoliticsRe: Let's Have Your Complaints, Suggestions & Enquiries Here by PointB: 8:59pm On Apr 22, 2013
What is wrong with these mods these days? Why would all the complaints be hidden? Are complaints/suggestion supposed to follow a particular format? If so why are we not made aware?

I raised a genuine issue about the unprofessionalism of a MOD (Ikenna) announcing the ban of OnlyTruth while keeping confidential the name of his so-called friend he banned. Rather than respond, the thread is now now hidden.

Why was OnlyTruth banned, and why does he remain banned? What was the reason for citing his ban as example, even when he never complained about it? I think Seun should step in NOW. This whole thing is getting ridiculous; the MODs seems to have completely lost it! If this is an indirect way of asking us to leave Nairaland please make it clearer.

You can't ask us to complain in this section only to have genuine complaints hidden without any explanation.
PoliticsRe: Let's Have Your Complaints, Suggestions & Enquiries Here by PointB:
By the way @Ikenna,
It is one thing to ban Onlytruth unfairly for a thread which seeks to understand differences, but going ahead to cite it as example while keeping confidential the identity of your 'friend' who was also banned is very unprofessional.

Lilimax: Tuly they are all looking old and expired. We need new and young breed politicians. These ones will have nothing to offer the country.
Perfectly articulated!

These bunch of old, tired, and retired politicians are certainly out for one thing and one thing only - to snatch the future from the the young ones for the benefit of their today. Individually and collectively, they have nothing new to suggest, let alone offer. Their basic, and only intention, is to acquire power for the sake of it, and never for the purpose of service to the nation. Their thinking is, 'if the shoeless Jonathan can become president, why not us privileged men'? Alas they have failed in advance.

Nigeria will certainly see beyond their messianic facade, to their selfish hearts!

PoliticsRe: Relocate NNPC Headquarters To Port Harcourt – Wali by PointB: 8:29am On Apr 19, 2013
I think it's very appropriate for Head Offices of the Oil company to be located where the bulk of their oil is source. It gives badly needed job to the local populace, curtail rural-urban migration, and reduces restiveness.

The FG should seriously consider this.
