Politics › Re: Is Pat Utomi An Economist? by porka(op): 10:57pm On Sep 29, 2009
@ PapaBrowne

I appreciate your post. Nice reasoning there.

But, you need a degree in Political Science to be a Political Scientist not a politician. You also need a degree in Economics to qualify as an Economist, not an ECONOMIC ANALYST.

No, you dont need a degree in Business Administration to be a Businessman but a Business Administration Expert. You remind me of someone who calls her grandmother a nurse because she treat wounds with herbs, another one calls his father a doctor because he is an expert in concoction. These folks are simply herbalists.

BTW, you said you dont know whether Utomi has a degree in Economics but he has all the knowledge of a seasoned economist, how sir? Where did he derive such knowledge?
Politics › Re: Is Pat Utomi An Economist? by porka(op): 10:31pm On Sep 29, 2009
I am not sure I get you well. Are you saying Pat Utomi did not have a degree in economics? Please clarify. I don't want you to make me an issue here. I want to know what qualifies one to be an economist if he has no degree in economics. Take things easy, but dont let us trivialize the issue. I might just be an ignorant guy seeking an answer to a claim. And who do you suggest we pick on madam, the new guy at our borders is already defending himself somewhere. Who else? Let's rebrand completely.

Do you have Utomi's CV? Is he an ECONOMIST? You have not answered the question. Is his claim bogus?

@ Kuzina
Looks like Pat's claims should be left unverified while we "pick" on someone else to explain their background huh? We should not leave anyone "unrebranded" in my view. Do you have Pat's CV please? Is he (PAT) an economist ma?
Politics › Is Pat Utomi An Economist? by porka(op): 9:10pm On Sep 29, 2009
"Prof" Pat Utomi is often refered to as an "Economist". I have searched his resume online for any proof of this claim and all I found was a mention of his taking a course in "POLICY ECONOMICS", which qualifies him as a "Political Economist".

Can anybody confirm PAT UTOMI's background please before we have another scandal on our hands? People who know him say he's a journalist and not an Economist - "Pat Utomi studied journalism/mass communications and not Economics as he is claiming" according to a source.

Does taking a course in "POLICY ECONOMICS" (whatever that means) qualifies one to be an ECONOMIST? WHO IS AN ECONOMIST? Is this a dubious claim? Can Pat Utomi please publish his CV with dates and qualifications for public scrutiny?
Leave story!

Clearly, the last girl standing had a chance to go all the way to the end by picking the 2nd key from the tree (remember Uche got the number 2 label not the key). The 2nd and 3rd keys were on the tree trunk but she went for the 3rd key while Uche who beliefed the 2nd key was in the bushes pick the key after her.
I think it has nothing to do with organizers but that the ladies had a mind set too be the last girl stand not the winner of the show.
NO! The instruction was to pick the keys labelled 1, 2, 3, according to how they arrived i.e. the 1st person picks key 1, the second person key 2 and the third person to arrive picks key 3. So she wa pretty much in line. But I agree with you that her major aim of entering that house was not to win but to be the last girl standing. She indeed had an issue with the other babe just because of that. That's mediocrity in my view.

The emphasis on physical tasks puts any lady at a disadvantage especially where men too are participant. Imagine having to carry that type of heavy log up the hill with guys.
Politics › Re: Bank Teller Loses His Job For Trying To Stop A Robber: by porka: 12:46pm On Aug 08, 2009
nex:
I'm ashamed of those of you who want this kind of action to be taken against hardworking, brave and dedicated Nigerian workers. In the USA, they have many crazed hero wannabes so I can understand what their problem is. In Nigeria, this should be encouraged.

The teller did the WRONG thing according to company policy, but did he do a BAD thing?

If the unarmed robber was successful with this robbery, how many more do you think he'd carry out?

I'm personally suspicious of the manager of that branch of the bank. I don't doubt that the manager had plotted how an unarmed man will rob them of some change with the intent of falsely claiming millions from the insurance company. That's why they're so mad.

If robbers are meant to be allowed free access to cart away money, I wonder if they'll be any use for security at banks. If the teller is not even trained for security, then they should first sack their security because they didn't do their job. And if they don't have security, then the teller can sue them.

I'm really upset by this news. Even more enraged by those that are suggesting that in Nigeria, the teller should be treated the same. You people are not considering that if a teller in Nigeria gives out money to an unarmed robber, the teller will not be sacked immediately but sent to the police station to confess (you know how) then allowed to resume work and pay back that money in salaries before being sacked. My brother is head of transactions GTB nationwide and I've read memos on cases like this.

"People wey their country good, dem want make e bad. Us wey our country don pafuka pass hell fire, una still wan condone bad thing?

That means most of you are in support of what is happening to Ribadu right now. His case is one of overdo too.
Ribadu is not a bank teller. He is a policeman.

Please stop reading your brother's official memos. You are too loose to be entrusted with bank's official documents. GTB is such a professional bank.

Chasing a robber down the street is not a teller's job. Hero or no hero. What happens to the money he was trying to protect? What if the robber's intention was to lure out of his cubicle for some other members to come and finish up while he was chasing him down the street or even a co-worker trying to help himself in this recession?

Nigerian bank robbers are never unarmed. They are armed to the teeth and take their time to take anything to desire, so please let's stop the comparison. You take them on at the cost of your life.

Finally, Nigerian bank officials' bribe newsmen to prevent them from mentioning their establishments. That's why we read "names withheld" or "a new generation bank" or an old generation bank" everytime robbery happens .

Family › Re: Why Do Poor People Have So Many Kids by porka: 5:54pm On Jun 11, 2009
[b]I think some of the reasons have been discussed extensively already by other people on this thread. I also think it's not the problem of the poor alone.

a) Love of children: Africans particularly are so fond of children. Rich and poor, powerful commoners, villagers and urbane folks alike, they all love children. I may be how we are wired.

b) Superstition - it looks foolish, but many people are superstitious. Some think children bring them good luck. Some people feel having more children will balance the their lucks.

c) Ignorance - some people ignorantly believe that having a small number of children causes health problems for women. I have heard people attributing some gynaecological problems to "children unborn" in the woman's womb.

Finally, while it looks that it is common among the poor is because of the apparent disadvantage is confers on their children in life. The circle of poverty remains unbroken, they become bitter and superstitious, they think someone who's more advantegeous is arrogant, they think people who have succeeded are crooks because they cant just figure how they cant succeed like their fellow childhood friend afterall they "knew" them before. They easily take to crime with parental approval, many times their parents provide "juju" for them to succeed in crime.

Because of these apparent disadvantage, we tend to think it's the poor that are affected the most. No, rich and affluent guys are into these thing, Check the list, Abiola, Obj, David Mark etc.

2. I also went to a single sex school, NEVER EVER have me or my friends and anyone we knew had lesbian 'tendencies'. My brothers also went to single sex schools, barr 1, neither of them have ever had gay 'tendencies'.

3. There are 2 particular young boys I work with who enjoy playing with 'girly' toys, dressing up in girls clothes etc etc.  One of them has 3 brothers, the other has 2 brothers and a sister (not a house full of females).  undecided

4. My gay colleague and his twin brother who is also gay, went to mixed sex schools, they also have 2 sisters (who are straight). One of the brothers liked 'masculine/boys' toys etc, the other wasn't really interested in toys etc, but yet they have felt this way supposedly 'since they could remember'.  undecided

Therefore, I dunno . . . . .  just, therefore.  grin
i was about making clarification on my post where i made reference to mixed schools and wars when i saw your post. yes, i also have friends who attended boys only schools who hate gays like s**t,  so it's not true that every gay went to boys only schools or that single sex schools breed gays. the emphasis is on societal influence and personal choices and not genetics as is being claimed.

just like armed robbers choose to commit crime and are influenced by their immediate environment and circumstances. and prostitutes and pedophiles and those who f**k their parents and children.

i have also seen a lot of guys who are sexual attracted to their sisters alone.

bros, the fact is, this homosexuality is not natural, but some people are doing it and want us to look the other way. no way.

for your information, there are lots and lots of people who have renounce this behavior and have been rehabilitated back to normal society. so it's not genetic afterall.

boys who dress in girls’ attire and play with dolls simply come from homes filled with girls. the same way a girl who has boys as siblings would likely be a tomboy. there is nothing so special about this homosexual thing except you have anything we haven’t heard before. there is not a single argument by this group that has not been punctured by reason, science and religion. btw, ogbanje is simply one of the supesuperstitiousieves of the dark continental africans.

the only thing i can see is the media influence. politicians and media big boys indulge in it and want to force all of us to accept it or look the other way. it won’t happen, for every 1million dollars spent on this project, there are 10 million dollars against it. for every powerful politician in favor of this nonsense, (including perhaps barack obama) there are more fierce super politician against it (including, benedict xvi) for every show biz personality in Hollywood, (including ellen degeneres), there are more crowd pulling artistes and personals (including eminem).

an overwhelming majority of americans are certainly against, europeans don’t have the guts to test their population through referendum on this issue; they are usually afraid of losing in any matter anyway – including the lisbon treaty.

and for us in the continent, nothing is as dead on arrival as this, no matter what kite anybody is flying. just yesterday, one ubani from the national assembly attempted to test the waters on bbc africa-have-your-say. am sure he under-estimated the resolve of black people across the continent even though he wanted to introduce it through the backdoor, he was roundly rejected by participants.

People are arguing saying homosexuality is learned from societal influences but I'm wondering if its not just another side effect from having the sinful nature? along with stealing, fornicating etc - that's the point of the thread my dear.
i don't have problem with the argument about human degeneracy. human nature is weak, it is easily influenced by anything. for instance, a child raised in sierra leone during the war may not have scruples carrying an ak47. if he becomes a killer it means he's been influenced by seeing people killed everyday. the same way folks who went to mixed schools would find it funny when they see gays.

make no mistakes, these guys picked up this despicable behavior from the society. if you grew up in my dad's house, for instance, you are not likely to be a thief even though you could have some other vices, but definitely not larceny.

the point is very clear, sodomy is a product of the society. people who claim they are attracted to the same sex are saying that because there are same sex in their society who are willing to have sex with them.

[b]i don't know what this thread is aimed at. i have followed it with keen interest and there are few questions i need to ask.

1) if gays or homosexuals are claiming to have gay genes would they have been born in the first place? genes are support to be passed from parent to offspring. it reminds me of two eunuchs in my community, they were (both are dead now) from the same parent. some of the village folks said they inherited it from their parents. pray, how could a parent have seered eunuchs if he were a eunuch himself.

2) are pedophiles and people who practice incest and those who have sex with dogs and horses born with that "condition"? i mean, i know a guy who said he first had sex with him mother and he in turn had sex with his own daughter. he seems to have that gene passed down from generations according to him.

3) what is the actual population of homosexuals? i don't think they are more than a handful in any society, europe or no europe.

4) and since the poster comes from a christian perspective, what is the position of the bible in this. from 1 cor 6:9-10 can we say thieves were born thieves? are drunkards born drunkards? should we say fornicators are born to fornicate?

these are just a few questions that we need to find answers to.
