Jobs/Vacancies › Re: CIBN Act: Banks To Employ Only CIBN Members by porka: 2:03am On May 06, 2009
that law refers to HEAD OF TECHNICAL DEPARTMENTS. technical departments in the bank include, risk management, financial control, operations etc. please read again, HEAD OF TECHNICAL DEPARTMENTS. this is to sanitise the system. just like hospital departments heads are professionals; consultants, pharmacists etc.

as hospitals tend to the physical health of man, so do banks tend to the financial health of man.

weather it will solve the problem is just a guess. many chartered bankers/accountants head the collapse banks' technical departments and they collapsed anyway.

one point is very, very clear. many nigerians began having confidence in themselves during obasanjo's 8 years tenure. that, to me, is the most important achievement.
Politics › Re: Quit Pretending, Lets Divide Nigeria, We Aint One: Period! by porka: 11:26am On May 02, 2009
i guess we'll split ekiti into about 12-16 countries; ayo fayose will be president of one, segun oni another, ayo arise of yet another, kayode fayemi of another and so on. anambra to fifteen, ojukwu will be president of nnewi country, andy uba another president somewhere, chris ngige will be the commander in chief of another country obi will be calling shot in another and so on and so on.

dividing the country will only turn the so-called yoruba country into another somalia with ethnic warlords fiercely trying to compete for space. if you doubt it get yourself a book, the history of yoruba people by samuel johnson.

you see. that's why i said, explain. i was trying to avoid this type of misconception. since i don't actually know what you meant by NEUTRAL. is it that "government" should not campaign for its party's candidate to be seen to be NEUTRAL, or to campaign for the opposition or campaign for both/all the candidates? i don't still understand your concept of NEUTRALITY in the "context"

and what is wrong with "government" campaigning for its party's candidate in ekiti? you want "it" to campaign for your candidate?

(2.) The normination, appointment,& Funding  of the Chairman & his entire National electoral team should rest with a well recorgnised N.G.Os'. This should be, so that the chairman or any of his/her electoral team will not want to favour a section that brought him/her to office. & lastly

this is absolutely false. all ngo(s) in the country are funded by the politicians and/or their friends abroad. in fact ngo(s) are one of the major problems. nigeria's electoral crisis is deeper than appointment of commissioners.

@ poster

i tried searching through the cbn website for something similar to a regulation on bank charges and this is what came close to it.

http://cenbank.org/out/circulars/bsd/2009/sanctions%20for%20violation%20of%20the%20decision%20on%20maximum%20deposit%20rate,%20lending%20rate%20and%20other%20charges.pdf

the cbn didn’t say "what other charges" are. and how to calculate the 2% p/a on this type of service is a little difficult. i hope they wont calculate 2% on the account balance.

be that as it may, i think the nigerian concept of financial intermediation is warped. i think it's silly. someone saying they keep your money therefore they should charge you. is that what they teach nigerian bank workers these days? i hope those making those argument are not bank workers, if they are it is shameful.

banks should actually pay interest on deposit and not charge for diesel/gen-set etc as someone insinuated. they are already enjoying the float, i.e. using customers’ money to generate more money. that is why banks are regulated in the first place. that is why customers’ deposit appears on the liability side of the balance sheet.

why are they opening 400 branches to charge customers? how many start-ups have enjoyed facilities from those four hundred branches? don’t forget that these same banks always claim that interest rate is high because of cost of funds, so why are they “passing it on to the customers” through these hidden charges?

and after the heavy “diesel/generator” charges they still collapse like a pack of cards? no wonder they look for customers by fire by force. nigeria is not the only country with challenges of infrastructure, there are several countries in similar position as nigeria which are not exploiting their people, india, brazil, bangladesh, iran etc don’t have excellent infrastructure yet life is not made difficult by their financial institutions.

yoruba, igbo, hausa, itshekiri, urhobo, fulani, edo, tiv, ijaw, igala, ebira, birom, jukun, akoko-edo, nupe, kataf, idoma, kanuri all will benefit from this project.

port harcourt-maiduguri axis will follow. we only need to urge government on to speedy action on the projects including the ones you mentioned.

government is fond of reversing and cancelling contracts.

can we see a thread of evidence please? like a pay check/slip. delete the name and other personal information. dont worry, we can tell the fake ones.

until then, i remain a doubting thomas. afribank only sell jamb forms to the best of my knowledge, they are not playing in the o & g market, their market share in p.s. is very low too, so how are they offsetting the mega salary?

Foreign Affairs › Re: Obama Breaks Tradition by porka: 2:48pm On Apr 12, 2009
my guy, unlike you, i have great respect for obama and all he has achieved personally. i have great respect for my elders too. i was taught to respect elders as an african raised person. i never said the king of saudi is an infidel, that’s your word my brother.

nevertheless, obama is neither an african nor african raised. he is not even an ordinary american citizen, he is the leader of all americans. the commander in-chief of all american armed forces, the greatest military forces in human history. consider the american troops watching their commander in chief bowing to a king.

my guy, have you ever seen obama bowed for anybody in life? please provide evidence. is queen elizabeth II older than obama? yes she is. did he bow for the queen? no he didn’t. was he disrespectful of the queen? not in the least. would obama bow for nelson mandela – the greatest african alive – who is the symbol of your so-called african respect? it is doubtful. my man, we all saw how obama’s wife, mitchelle, place her hand on queen’s back, that’s to show you they have no respect for anybody.

i am convinced in my mind that obama is deliberately hurting his people. he is doing so because he personally believe in his self accomplishment, i think he overdoing it. he now feels he cant dictate another way of life for them to follow. why am i sure? he is one of the most educated guys in america, he knows the american culture inside out. he is extremely familiar with protocol, you cant say obama did not know he shouldn’t bow to anyone on earth. so why did he do this? simple, just to spite some people.

my brother, this is not “smart politics” it is foolishness. he is going down not up. can you sincerely say he got anybody in america who supported this? then why did the white house initially deny? can you sincerely say he really offended anyone with this foolishness, by no means, he did.

my brother, there is something called protocol. it’s like conceding your seat in the office to a visitor because you want to be seen as respectful. and you mentioned obasanjo in your defense, to my mind the argument is not whether he can bow to me or not, did he bow to anyone when he was president of nigeria? can you leave your seat for a mate/subordinate in your office because you don’t want to be seen as arrogant? can you ride in your md’s car – on his seat while he was there because the guy is so humble? it looks trivial, even childish, but it’s the reality of the human organization.

my brother, and we are talking of americans, is it their culture to bow to their elders? do obama girls bow to him? do they even bow to their grandmother?

my brother, what is my problem really? my problem is basically why obama doing this things. why is the black man like this? i can see disaster ahead if he continues this path. he didn’t only bow down to the saudi monarch, he followed it up with statements in turkey that america is now a nation of muslims and non-believers, why?

you know what, i am old enough to know that popularity is fleeting. In his own case, he represents the black people who would be castigated because of our race. at the end, you’ll see that the same people hailing him now, including you would turn against him.
Foreign Affairs › Re: Obama Breaks Tradition by porka: 1:37pm On Apr 12, 2009
nobody has been able to provide any reasonable explanation why president obama bowed down for the saudi monarch. the white house even denied it until the picture appeared everywhere.

why is this guy trying to appeal to muslims by force. he said america is now a muslim nation, a jewish nation, a nation of unbelievers bla bla bla. what is his problem really?

why are you guys just being blind to reality? someone said he was being respectful - by bowing down to a saudi king? are you saying he will bow to yaradua or even mandela? what is this defense of obama at all cost by some bloggers? you better start acknowledging reality, he is proving to be a divisive leader than any other person - deliberately.

he is losing supporters very fast. at any rate, by the time his popularity ratings turn south, will you guys still support him or you'll blame imaginary "enemies" for what he has inflicted on himself. no human being has remain ever popular. some leaders with huge initial popularity ended up being the most hated and despised in history. i thought obama recognizes this and would guide against self destruction, but am wrong.

obama is not as smart as i think after all. he is disappointing me. but i think he needs our collective prayers as africans, not blind support for foolishness like this.

folks, obama is going to fail with this kind of deliberate actions of spiting american people. their core values as a nation are being undermined by their leader. their tolerance is waning.

it's not all americans that are affected by the severe economic crunch and very soon, even his supporters will start to ask questions. If he intend to ruffle as much feathers as possible using economic crisis as a shield, he is simply making huge political miscalculations. people don’t usually forget who they are in spite of any economic challenges.

let’s stop his descent please. he should rally his people together in this difficult times not make too much unnecessary but deliberate missteps.

And guess what? It is coming from unlikely quarters, the REPUBLICANS.

I am particularly delighted about the positive testimonies by WHITE Americans about the CAN DO/DEVIL-MAY-CARE attitude of Nigerians.

Let’s keep it up and pray it get mainstream.
