EducationRe: Occupy UNILAG: Students Protest MAU Renaming by POTUT(m): 1:05pm On May 29, 2012
I agree that MKO should be immortalized. My idea of immortalizing him was an internationally acclaimed Institute of Democracy in Nigeria, or renaming the entire three arms zone to MKO Abiola Zone and arming it with a powerfully equipped national/public library.
Renaming UniLag is not a proper application of this immortalization effort, IMO. However, the president thinks it is...so be it.
PoliticsRe: Democracy Day Church Service: GEJ Refuse To Say "Amen" To Anti-corruption Prayer by POTUT(m): 9:05am On May 29, 2012
To all those hauling curses on GEJ and all chief beneficiaries of corruption, have you ever paid any attention to the University administrators and Traditional Rulers who call these thieves aside and publicly honor them with awards and degrees and chieftaincy titles?

In the fight to save endangered species around the world, the following phrase is the foremost verbal weapon:
"...if the buying stops, the killing can too".

As usual, Nigerians will tend to deflect their efforts towards the secondary issues while ignoring the primary cause.

So long...Nigeria.
RomanceRe: I Love My Husband But He Is Not Romantic by POTUT(m): 5:20pm On Apr 05, 2012
Never tell him he is not romantic. Your marriage may fail that same moment. Instead, tell him subtly that you like to play before sex. Delay it a bit and show him how by actually doing it. Okay, you can turn off the lights also. Now to another point, do you both have jobs? If yo both have jobs, that should keep you away from each other for at least 8 hours a day. During that time, send him romantic sms and demand a reply. Over time he should learn. I assume he has a job, if you don't, get one!
Christianity EtcRe: Do Atheists Disagree With Satan's Existence Or Not? by POTUT(m): 2:42pm On Apr 05, 2012
I began replying to an earlier post. Halfway, I found out I had written a lot and people for which I was writing could sleep off reading it. So I summarized it below:

The person who says there is no God (sovereign Creator of the Universe whose powers, wisdom and understanding are infinite and who is omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent) is like one who believes the world did not exist until he was born.

I was born in 1978, sometimes I wonder with awe and reverence that all the activities in the world prior to 1978 went on without my presence. Where was I then? My inner man which forms the basis of my understanding. When I die, where will all that understanding go to?

Another grand question I have for atheists is this: what do you do differently from Christians (or anyone else who believes in the existence of God)?
Will you kill? Will you rape? Will you give birth and not feed and nurture your baby? Would you take another man's estate just because you are stronger than him? Would you do other vices? If there is something restraining you from doing that apart from the law, what is that thing? What do you think it is?
I am waiting for an answer...which will lead us to my next question. BTW, there is nothing wrong with being an atheist, as long as you ask questions. The questions you ask will lead you to the illuminating light. We all need to be illuminated at some point in our lives.
PoliticsRe: Reuben Abati's Response To Otuoke Community Church Gift To GEJ by POTUT(m): 2:24pm On Apr 05, 2012
39. nkem Kalu: Quote Post
Some fools will never see anything wrong in a President descending so low to solicit for a Church gift.....WHY DID HE NOT CALL FOR FUND RAISING IN HIS COMMUNITY AND MAY BE INVITE SOME EMINENT NIGERIANS AND FRIENDS TO MAKE FREE WILL DONATIONS IF THE CHURCH PROJECT WAS TOO DEAR TO HIM? WHY MUST IT BE A CONSTRUCTION COMPANY THAT HAS ABANDONED PROJECTS ALL OVER NIGERIA SUCH AS THE 2ND NIGER BRIDGE IN BE THE ONE TO BUILD A CHURCH GIFT FOR OTUOKE COMMUNITY? PEOPLE DON'T UNDERSTAND THAT FOR A PROJECT TO BE ABANDONED BY A CONTRACTOR, THEY MUST HAVE SOME BACKING AND SOMETHING MUST GIVE THEM THE GUT TO DO SO. I don't know when people will stop promoting evil in this society by supporting bad things. Some people even go to the extent of saying that GEJ predecessors did their own therefore it is not wrong for Jonathan to do his own. WHAT A SHAME? This is the worst administration I have ever seen in this country Shikina.
This is not the worst administration you have ever seen. I assume you are old enough to have seen the IBB administration (1985-1993). This is the administration on which much more has been reported about its key members because we live in an information technology era. Do you know the construction company that built IBB's 50-room mansion in Niger State?

I do not condone any wrong done by these leaders, but please do not hastily and angrily judge GEJ. Imagine this scenario below:
On one of his numerous visits to his hometown, the President engages in a conversation with his kinsmen and the issue of their dilapidated church building comes up. The President then says he does not have the personal powers to embark on it, neither does the Federal Government. However someone suggests that the attention of one of the numerous companies operating in the area or perhaps the State could be drawn to the building as a CSR. Thereafter, word crawls into the ears of a certain construction company. The carriers also mention that the President was privy to the conversation. In a matter of time, the company delivers on it and invites the President to honor the re-dedication of the building.

Now we know that the President has often times says things that do no completely convey the reality in the right perspective. Why this happens, I cannot say for sure. What I can say is that things aren't always the way they seem. Looking at it by only what can be proven, there is nothing to harangue the President about and there is no impeachable offence seen.

If the President or any person in authority berates some companies for doing little in CSR, and then months down the line one notable company delivers on a visible CSR project in the hometown of the person in authority, does it then mean that official solicited it?

For the opposition parties, this is a golden opportunity to watch closely the projects that Gitto are handling across the country. We are in the information era, so the Freedom of Information Act should be used to obtain crucial information that can lead to the prosecution of Gitto (if they have been found to have abandoned any projects after being paid any form of mobilization or other monies).

Is the opposition capable of this diligent watch?
PoliticsRe: Reuben Abati's Response To Otuoke Community Church Gift To GEJ by POTUT(m): 2:09pm On Apr 05, 2012
Reuben Abati is doing a great job, only few Nigerians can match the situation with an apt response. However, does this mean we should discount the president's speeches until Reuben Abati gives it the rearrangement it deserves?

PoliticsRe: Terrorism Trial: : Senator Ndume Named Vp Sambo As Boko Haram Sponsor by POTUT(m): 1:00pm On Mar 25, 2012

PoliticsRe: Elrufai Predicts Coup In Nigeria by POTUT(m): 10:02pm On Mar 24, 2012
Pity.
Nigeria's democracy has always been in need of help, so has its military dictatorships. From experience, Nigerians know by now which of the two worlds they'd rather be in.
I have studied our history so far and can say without apologies that Buhari's coup and the very first coup we had in 1966 were our two tragic turning points. (For this same reason I campaigned vehemently against Buhari in the absence of any apologies from him and his cohorts). If democracy, as bad as it was in these two eras had not been so mindlessly, dishonorably and irresponsibly truncated, all the pitfalls we are experiencing today and lamenting over would have been dealt with in good measure. From a bloated government to a dangerously strong center, from gather-and-share-at-Abuja governance to outrageous salaries for legislators.
For El-Rufai to respond with such words is only saying what many ordinary Nigerians have discussed even in commercial buses. What is interesting though is that El-Rufai did not hear these echoes when he was in government.
Nigeria will get it right, I am doing myself good by believing so. GEJ is a momentous president. If his tenure doesn't turn out to be an epoch-making one, I will be very disappointed.
Nigeria is far ahead of other African countries in matters of national consciousness. Any coup will be one too many.
PoliticsRe: Vienna House: Austrian Court Vindicates Diezani Alison-Madueke by POTUT(m): 9:32am On Mar 24, 2012
Why didn't the honorable minister press for damages, or was nothing damaged in her reputation? I know that I was on the verge of believing that initial story and started resenting her for it, especially as there are so many unanswered questions around her integrity (fuel subsidy brouhaha).
I think she ought to press for damages. Gladly, she has cleared the windscreen now and we can see her for who she is...
InvestmentRe: N970m Suit: Zenith Bank Loses Bid To Stop Trial by POTUT(m): 9:26am On Mar 24, 2012
My advice to Zenith Bank is to quickly settle out of court before this matter proceeds to trial, because when it does, emotions will flare and reaching a settlement then might become a tougher thing to do.
I have read through some of the most incisive cases at the NIC involving another BIG bank and the organizations always lost, not because there is a sentiment against them, but because they are always wrong. Fortunately, the NIC is not an ordinary court where organizations can go and buy judgments.
Nigerian companies must learn the hard way to treat employees with respect and honor.
I am also in court with a big bank, and trial is underway...there defense is in shambles already.

16. atasteve: Quote Post
Haaa, I am tired for all these organizations. But am amazed how people can easily lose hope! What becomes of 203 that didn't join because they believed that they cannot win.
Perhaps they never believed in themselves in the first place. It took me 30 months to muster the courage and resources to drag this organization I worked for to the NIC. Somehow, someway, sometime, one has to fight for the right things the right way.

Congratulations Tarmar!
PoliticsRe: SEC Denies Offering Herman Hembe ₦30M Bribe by POTUT(m): 5:33pm On Mar 21, 2012
“I made no attempt to collect any bribe, rather I worked hard to avoid the offer of such by the SEC DG,” he said.
How does one go about avoiding an offer of a bribe? Sitting long hours in the office, working the phone lines or calling up the EFCC with documents or recorded conversation as evidence?
So if this probe hadn't come up, this is how SEC would have continued with a gang of bribe-givers at its helm of affairs (assuming the honorable's allegations are true), with the prime knowledge of an honorable representative?

A rudimentary thought: How was the bribe going to be offered? In cash in the trunk of a car? Through transfer in a local bank? Offshore account credit? Honorable please enlighten us...and the pretentious EFCC.

4. kunlekunle:
that's why they hate buhari

Are you a Nigerian? Who hates Buhari? If he loses an election does it mean he is hated? I think you are very wrong with that notion that Buhari is hated by Nigerians.

10. Koolking(m):
Nigeria is a lawless nation. If you have your money you grind the laws

Laws in Nigeria are not made to bite (made to bite the poor) but to bark
You are spot on! The attitude of flouting laws and rules started a long time ago and has been sustained consciously by Nigerians in all positions of authority who forget that their actions have an effect on the psyche of the populace.
The other day, precisely in January this year, the Akwa Ibom State governor zoomed past the traffic lights (that were on red) at Civic Center (Ozumba Mbadiwe) with his convoy. It was my turn to go but I knew better. I was driving in a small Yaris and his convoy was the heavy tonnage Landcruisers. (please this applies to all of them, I just used this because it happened to me.)
PoliticsRe: Dialogue Between FG And Boko Haram Fails by POTUT(m): 8:32am On Mar 19, 2012

PoliticsRe: Understanding Benue! by POTUT(m): 8:36am On Mar 15, 2012
I passed through Benue first in 1991 on route to Kaduna. Then it did look like there was more northern influence on the town. I passed through again in 2010 from a trip to Taraba and there was a very visible christian-like influence on the state. These judgments were made from what I could glimpse and the places I saw.
Downtown Markurdi had an undeniable Ibo presence. I ate at a local restaurant at High Level. I also noted that taxis were very cheap. What is it with Lagos taxis BTW?
PoliticsRe: Breaking News :boko Haram Sets Conditions For Ceasefire by POTUT(m): 3:59am On Mar 15, 2012

PoliticsRe: A Response To Funke Aboyade's Defence Of Sanusi's N100 Million Donation by POTUT(m): 3:35pm On Mar 14, 2012
It is a pity that every time objective Nigerians try to tackle topical national issues or excesses of public officers, they are shot down in torrents of sentimental firepower.

SLS I believe has a case to answer by doling out money to victims of a man-made calamity. Now, commonsense tells us that CBN is an agency of government. I really do not need to know the Acts setting up CBN by the letter to wake up my curiosity. Are such government agencies now independent that they can now express their concern outside an executive action?
There are several of parastatals and agencies that can repeat the CBN's actions and the result will be chaos and utter waste with no accountability.
What if the Nigeria Communication Commission donated to the erosion control efforts in Anambra State. What will the Ecological Fund then do?
What if the National Population Commission donated to victims of flood in Lagos?

Now if any citizen, or any lawyer questions the CBN's action, why shoot him down by speculating that his intentions are tribal? A suite has been filed in court already and we are waiting for the Judiciary's interpretation of the CBN Act.
PoliticsRe: CBN's Sanusi The Holy Mallam In A Romantic Romp (sizzling Photo) by POTUT(m): 12:07am On Mar 14, 2012
I do not see anything objectionable about the pix. That could be a niece, an old beneficiary of some philanthropic gesture of his or even a sister! We do not even know if his family is just a few inches away from him.

I don't agree with most of SLS's policies or actions which I consider astringent, but I won't be taken by these pictures, they mean nothing by themselves.

PoliticsRe: Senators Received Bribe In Dollars Before Subsidy Removal by POTUT(m): 4:01pm On Mar 08, 2012
Plausible story to support their loud silence, as opposed to the HOR ferocious roars. Also plausible reason their hearings on the matter are shadowing the HOR's.

Need I say our bane in fighting corruption in this country is the absence of incontrovertible evidence? I am fed up with all these wolf cries that end with the setting of the day's sun.
PoliticsRe: Okonjo-iweala Sues Pointblank News For N10 Billion by POTUT(m): 3:16pm On Mar 08, 2012
In the absence of any independent inquiry that emerges with infallible evidence, our best guess is simply a speculation in either direction.

This is the first time I have heard a public officer living up to the expectation. Truly, anytime anyone publishes a purportedly false story, or makes an allegation against a public officer, that public officer should drag them to court if he/she knows that the truth has not been said.

If the person of the honorable minister has been needlessly tainted, I will be glad to watch her get a full compensation for this. I have always canvassed for this kind of no-nonsense move to protect the image of good public officers.

Pointblank have better have a good defense, or else this is their end.
PoliticsRe: Can A Corrupt PDP Government Ever Hold Free And Fair General Elections? by POTUT(m): 2:17pm On Feb 26, 2012
@OP,

Yes a PDP govt can hold free and fair elections. The INEC & Judiciary are not PDP machinery are they? The responsibility of making an election free and fair depend almost entirely on these two organs.
Where the PDP infringes on anyone's rights, these two organs should do the needful. Where they don't, it will simply reflect the dysfunction in our system that was present since before the advent of the PDP.

Access to news media is a function of strategy and finance. Where there is proof that the NTA rejected campaign adverts of opposition parties, why haven't those parties sued? The NTA, just like the roads opposition parties will drive on to the polling booths are owned by the government of the day.
PoliticsRe: Southern Groups Laud North Over Snc by POTUT(m): 2:08pm On Feb 26, 2012
The call for SNC is fundamental, because we all agree that the federalism we operate today is flawed. It strikes me how a National Assembly, in shrugging off the SNC (or any genuine and sincere effort at discussing our way forward and the terms of existence) is making itself irrelevant. With visionary leadership, the NA could become the respected change agents that will bring about a whole new dawn for Nigeria.
PoliticsRe: Underwear Bomber Umar Farouq Abdulmutallab Appeals Life Term Sentence by POTUT(m): 3:22am On Feb 18, 2012
How can the god whom you claim to serve by attempting to bomb a plane be great? The brainwashing liquid he drank hasn't worn off yet, even after 2 years!
This mutallab boy is sooooo lucky. He has his life back, this is a golden second chance for him to find true repentance. If this had happened in Nigeria, he would get 6 months in prison and be out the next day.
Thank God there is only one Nigeria on earth, which is geographically held in place, and cannot move to other places.
PoliticsRe: Ribadu’s Appointment Is An Insult – Tinubu by POTUT(m): 3:03am On Feb 18, 2012

PoliticsRe: Efcc Re-arraigns Femi Fani-kayode On 47-count Charge Of Money Laundering by POTUT(m): 8:33pm On Feb 16, 2012
I remember FFK's time in office and his loud mouthedness under OBJ. He apparently did not notice that EFCC was also witch-hunting then. He couldn't talk because he had food in his mouth.
Whether there is proof or not, the annoying part is the fact that people just become invariably (inevitably) wealthy once they are out of office. EFCC is playing a familiar game.
Ooops! Let's give Lamorde the benefit of the doubt.
PoliticsRe: Sovereign National Conference: Opening A Pandora’s Box by POTUT(m): 8:14pm On Feb 16, 2012
Even if the SNC comes, even if we agree to go our separate ways, we will all arrive at our ethnic capital to find our fair share of the problems we have faced as Nigeria - corruption and the lack of will to condemn and stop it, the complete disorientation and ineptitude of scramble & kill politicians.

Our traditional rulers will continue to honor only those who give them money. Our university lecturers will continue to sell handouts. There will be multidimensional scramble for statesmanship by thuggery. The Niger Delta might be worse off because every family will produce a warlord and their dirty politicians will come home from Abuja to roost route the commonwealth. Our policemen will compete with agbero for road supremacy. Our state media will alays sing the praises of whoever kills and outrigs all the others to win an election.

In time, we will all realize that we ought to have fought all these problems together. The time is Now!
