Thanks

FAQ 8. After nomination by a province you'll apply for PR with IRCC under express entry and the NOC criteria for express entry will apply (screenshots from previous post). SINP is the only PNP I know of that asks for work experience and degree to match. Most others just align with IRCC NOC rules.

Devote some time to thoroughly reading page one from the beginning. And also research each of the PNPs, as they vary.
Travel / Re: Canadian Express Entry/Federal Skilled Worker Program - Connect Here Part 11 by Preshyi: 9:05pm On Dec 20, 2021
Please is it advisable I apply only to Ontario or all the provinces via my express entry profile?
Sorry for the plenty questions but I guess that's why we are here cheesy.
Courage19:
If you read through the details of the noc, the certification isn't compulsory. Its stated that some employers may require it. I got Ontario nomination without a certification, just Masters. But your CRS is way above the range they'd invited...

Thanks, the confusion is that the writeup made reference to FSW. Wanted to make sure its same process.
GraciousWords:

Pls thoroughly go back and digest page one, especially the section in the screenshot.
Travel / Re: Canadian Express Entry/Federal Skilled Worker Program - Connect Here Part 11 by Preshyi: 8:34pm On Dec 20, 2021
Thanks for your response. I have a 476 CRS but since that NOC requires a certification, will my law degree be eligible for HR NOC?
Courage19:
I'm not certain of provinces that nominates lawyers. However, Ontario nominates HR professionals especially if your CRS is within the stipulated range of the draw. Its been with the range of about 458 -467 in recent times. You could go for the HR noc 1121 if your CRS is close to Ontario's draw range for pnp.
Travel / Re: Canadian Express Entry/Federal Skilled Worker Program - Connect Here Part 11 by Preshyi: 7:24pm On Dec 20, 2021
Please are there provinces that nominate lawyers? The NOC is 4112, I am not sure I can find that information online.
Also, I have HR experience the most part of my work experience, should I go for that NOC instead. Although my ECA was in law.

Our names are both on the tenancy agreement.
I tried calling but got no reasonable response but cos some insisted he was entitled to it, I went to the city council website and saw the option to apply online. While completing my details, I was asked to fill in the details of other occupants of the apartment and then a follow up question was if the occupant was my spouse/dependant. I then had to upload his Visa, Brp, passport data page to prove he is not a British citizen and not entitled to public funds. It took 2 months for us to get the certificate in our mail box but when I tried to follow up the response was cos they were very busy at the moment. Hope this helps.
donald197:
Whao. Did you use both your names for renting the apartment or just your name?
My wife applied, they only gave hmus 25% discount.
Pls explain how you went about it so I can mail them again.

You dont remember clearly, some said he could get while some said he wouldn't unless it's a single occupancy and that's what conflicting opinion means.
TheGuyFromHR:

If I remember clearly, the information supplied was not conflicting, it was very clear that a full-time student, their dependant spouse with NRPF and the house which they rent are all exempt from council tax for the duration of the full-time student's course.

Hello all,
Just a follow on the question I asked about council tax exemption for a student dependant cos of the conflicting opinions. My husband and I were granted exemption and issued a certificate after I applied online and submitted all his details along side mine. Unfortunately, many people dont know their spouses are exempted as well.

Please what does the pre registration mean?
Safeob27:

Most schools are starting to request for ielts ..some have made it compulsory now..as nursing is becoming very competitive especially msc nursing ( pre-registration)…if your waec is older than 10 years, you would have to write ielts oh..if you have any grade below C4 in English, you might have to write it too. Like uni of derby rejected lots of people who did not have C4 in English and maths in waec. While for some schools , even if you have A1 in English, they would still require you to write ielts. For university of Bournemouth, if you have any grade less than B3 in English, you would need to write ielts

So just be prepared for any of the outcomes

Best of luck !

Same thing we had in my, but we are open to anything that's gonna work.
Schoolhike:

Well, I was advised by a senior family friend that, I as a dependent should just try take up any job in as much as it’s bringing in lots of money for us to clear off our debts (school debts and money borrowed to aid our traveling) and after my wife studies when the financial burden will be lesser, then we should focus on looking for specific jobs that will help aid out stay, but for now we should focus on making money.

So, I don’t know if you could apply this also,

Tho, it doesn’t stop the dependant to be pursuing other better offers,

You obviously misunderstood me Sir, I am already schooling fulltime and if its something that requires a full time training for him then it will definitely affect our finances. so I am looking at how soon he can start considering the financial aspect. I already said I will make research but need to be aware what to look out for.
MichaelUde:

Madam, you are not asking the right questions. I will answer this one because I sure say OgaHR dem no go answer this one.

You should find a training first, then adjust your schedule to fit it. There are all sorts of flexible options here, evenings, weekends, whatever, and even if its weekdays, then its for your husband to take out what time is needed to make it work for him.

He tried to apply for some pharmacy assistant jobs cos that was what he did back home but in his case he worked even as a Pharmacist most times (You know Naija style), so far the ones he has seen here requires some form of qualification that he doesn't have.
TheGuyFromHR:

Tell him to try the NHS.
Covid testing, pharmacy assistant, things like that for starters.
With a healthcare background (you didn't specify what exactly he did back in Naija), he can also get a HCA job.
Depending on his work experience, he should also continue putting in applications where he feels he can fit.
As the previous poster said, some specific training would most likely be required to qualify one for a position with sponsorship.
Travel / Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by Preshyi: 2:47pm On Oct 15, 2021
Thanks so much, will definitely do more research on the training cos that work no be here. But are these trainings something he can do while still working fulltime?
captainhoo:

Tell your husband to research about trainings in the medical field e.g trainings related to medical laboratory jobs, training on how to use pcr machine etc. With a certificate in such courses and his job experience. His employability in the medical field will increase tremendously.
Don't let him waste his energy and time with warehouse work( many people think the only jobs available for newcomers are usually warehouse or care and that isn't true) . He can also go to indeed. Some agency recruit for covid tester assistants and offer training, even for someone without any form of experience. Repackage his CV expressing the details of his job experience in nigeria. Be detailed about what he did, don't just put his job title. He can work as a covid tester assistant while figuring out the trainings to do to enter into the medical field. Once into the medical field, he can then search for nhs work or employers that can sponsor his tier 2.

Please I would like to know about the bold part, I am the student but I believe my husband has better chances cos he is a Biochemist but has over 5 years experience working in the health sector in Nigeria and some assume he read a medical course. For now he has gotten an Amazon warehouse operative job but we are thinking of how he can switch to the medical field that has chances of sponsorship. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
tshoboy:

Sorry to hear about your experience. It seems you just got in this September and you are limited to working 20 hours a week.
It’s usually difficult to get a full time at this stage and the care jobs/ other menial jobs are the ones you can quickly get.

Just like people have been advising, the next stage now is getting your CV in UK format, making the most out of your MSc with the experiences you get and applying to as much graduate/entry roles as possible.

Yeah, I agree with you and I have similar advise that people should come as a couple. The person with a better CV will be the dependent to the other, because that person is employable.

All the best!
Travel / Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by Preshyi: 6:38pm On Oct 04, 2021
The offers she got are they for student jobs or full time jobs? cos I think the concern is about applying for graduate jobs that will begin in 2022 after graduation.
Mamatukwas:

My friend who just came in last month and has gotten a job got veterans in the UK to work on her CV. Apparently they removed everything that made her look over qualified for beginner roles (she’s also on a student visa); and simplified the cv

Then she applied to very many places. So far she has gotten 3 offers, started an agency role and has been offered permanent weekends in the same place so it’s definitely doable.

I think the key is your CV. Get it right and if you can’t do it get help. Then apply to a lot of places.

FYI she mentioned that there’s something called Royal Mail sorter that apparently they hire for everywhere and frequently. So check that out as well. All the best.

Will do that, thanks
Chreze:
Dependents get council tax exemption as well. Write to your council tax peeps. Fill the exemption form online and Upload details of you and your partners visa. They will send the exemption certificate to your apartment, one for you and the other for your partner with details of exemption period.

That’s how I did for myself and wife. Like someone said about visa rules. My wife’s own was not do medical works (or something like that). I didn’t read that well because e no concern us. Na Pastey chef she be and e far from medical work. I don’t know if that played any role.

But from what I read last year (and believe it’s still applicable this year). The dependent is exempted from council tax just as the main applicant.

They said the council peeps will know better, I will have to follow up.
LagosismyHome:

Your school should have an international student office . This is their job to support you as international student who have "no recourse to public funds" shouldn't pay council tax

Some council staff no know their work, mainly because maybe they haven't dealt with international student spouses. Check with your school to provide you with evidence of the law

It may seem as though he doesn't have to pay. Just saw this on their website.
KOVIC19COVID20:

I know a couple who got letter. The husband (tier 4 student) wrote back to the council, insisting that he was a student, he rented the apartment. The wife is HIS dependant.
He got an exempt, and both names were on the council bill tax certificate.
This was between 2018 to 2021.

I am the main applicant and it's a student Visa. I am exempt and thought my husband was too.
KOVIC19COVID20:

Between you and your husband, who is the dependant?
And what visa category is the main applicant? Is the main visa applicant/holder exempt?

Hello,
I know this council tax exemption has been discussed before now but I just called the city council to ask if my husband is exempted from paying council tax and they said No. Is this correct and what's the best way to go about it please?

Please how do we know when the jobs should begin cos they usually don't specify that it's for the next year.

Tried doing that but our apartment number is not coming up on the postcode. Guess we will try Starling

You can open a monzo account right in the corner of your room with your international passport and a video of your face introducing yourself. The account I'd also acceptable as salary account in most places.
