A journalist has issued a public notice concerning two boys who are known for criminal activities while selling sachet water in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state. Emmanuel Owuala took to Facebook to narrate how the two street boys snatched the money he shared to them and another young boy in a bid to help them. After sharing the story online, some Facebook users confirmed that the two boys are ''criminals'' known for stealing in the area - with a man revealing how they almost snatched his phone from a tricycle. Read what Emmanuel wrote on Facebook; PUBLIC NOTICE : This two boys are growing to become a major threat to this society. Yesterday, at Udoumana Traffic light, they me begged me for small thing to eat, I told them to meet me at Discovery Park where I was going for a meeting, on getting there, they arrived. I took out time to ask them few questions about who they are and their origin, they both told me their parents are dead. I knew they lied, but I told them I was going to help me. I asked what they will like to do so as to keep them going, and they said they will like to sell pure water, I then asked how much they needed, they both said they needed to get the rubber (as seen in the picture above), I then asked another boy who was selling pure water to go and buy the rubber, each costing 700naira. Before the rubbers were brought, I asked them about school since it was free, these boys said they don't have the need for school since they can't feed themselves. But I encouraged them to go to school in the morning and sell in the afternoon. When the rubbers were brought, I asked how much they needed to start their business and they said just 200 each which will give them 2 bags each and when the sell, they will make another 200 as profit. After counseling them, I gave them 1k each, and assigned another little boy who was selling pure water already to go with them and ensure they bought the pure water and use the balance to eat and pay for the daily tickets. 30mins later, the little came back and informed me that these boys snatched the money from him, threatening to beat him up and bought a certain concoction and took a Keke and ran away without buying the pure for sell. I'm doing this post because I know alot of people may have seen them and wished to help them if they have not done that already. We should not be encouraging them to beg for a living, but get something doing Source; https://www.nationalhelm.co/2018/06/beware-of-these-two-young-boys-selling-sachet-water-in-uyo-man-raises-alarm-photos.html

Operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), Abeokuta in Ogun State, on Thursday, May 31, 2018, recorded a triumphant victory over a gang of cross-border bandits after a gun battle. During the fire fight, a member of the syndicate was killed by the police bullet while others scampered for safety in different directions. It was gathered that a team of FSARS operatives, attached to Sango-Otta area and led by Supol Bawa Sanni, had received an order from their boss, DSP Uba Adams, as directed by the state Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Iliyasu, to track down the bandits who had earlier snatched a Lexus 350 Jeep at Oke-Ilewo in Abeokuta, the state capital. The hoodlums were ostensibly heading towards neighboring Benin Republic when they ran into a brick wall in the FSARS operatives on Sango-Idiroko Road. Apparently bent on escaping with the vehicle, they opened fire on the policemen, but were subdued by the retaliatory and gallantry efforts of the officers. The fatally injured member of the gang was taken to the State Hospital Ijaye, Abeokuta where he finally gave up the ghost. His corpse was consequently deposited at the hospital's mogue. The snatched jeep and an AK 47 rifle, as well as 13 live ammunition were recovered from the robbers. "Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Iliyasu, who expressed his satisfaction about the performance of his men, has ordered a serious manhunt for the fleeing members of the gang. The CP also assured residents of the state to always alert the police on time whenever any crime is being committed in their area to enable the police respond as quickly as possible". A man was thrown into a state of confusion and disbelief when a suspected armed robber took possession of his Toyota Corolla car and sped off with a three-year old girl therein. According to reports, the victim had gone to pick his daughter from school and decided to branch at the workshop of an artisan repairing his pumping machine at Sokori area of Abeokuta, Ogun State capital. He, was said to have parked the car ten meters away, with the engine running, while he to meet the artisan. To his utmost bewilderment, he suddenly noticed the car move, but had to jettison the thought as unimaginable on account that the little girl, aside that she was on the back seat, could not be so perfect to make the car roll. While still ruminating on the fearful and strange development within that short spate of time, what happened thereafter was damning to him; the car sped off, suggesting that a devil disciple was at work. He then raised an alarm, which attracted a horde of sympathizers, comprising mostly motorcyclists, who chased the fleeing marauder on the wheel and successfully caught up with him. He was dragged out of the car, beaten to a pulp and later handed over to men of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), Abeokuta. Crimepuzzle gathered that on arrival at the office of the FSARS, a search was conducted on the 32-year old suspect, identified as Samuel Akinwale, during which a short locally-made gun was lying in his pocket. On interrogation, he was said to have revealed to the detectives that he belonged to a five-man car snatching syndicate and consequently led the operatives to their hideout. It was further learnt that, on approaching the robbers' 'den', his other gang members, sensing a swoop on them, opened fire on the policemen, which shattered the side screen of their operational bus. Their arrested gang member, Samson, was incidentally, not spared of the violent attack. Their bullet hit him. He was thereafter rushed to a hospital by the police team but confirmed dead by the doctor on duty. A twist has, however, been introduced into the scenario. The suspect's relatives have begun to threaten the complainant for being instrumental to the arrest of their son. A father allegedly refused to take his own daughter to the hospital after she was injured which made blood to flow to flow to her head. According to reports, the 8-year-old girl fell and hit her head on a concrete while playing causing blood to accumulate in her head and make it soft. It was revealed that the girl's father refused to join those who wanted to take his daughter to the hospital days after the injury because it's a woman's duty to take a child to the hospital. Olorunfunmi Adebajo shared the sad news online. Read below; Why women? Rebecca one of our students had a very nasty fall. She tripped and hit her head on concrete while playing with her older sibling. We got to know 12 days later after she had bled into her scalp and the head was soft like hot puffpuff. The blood that accumulated in the head would fill a big cup. While we panicked and sought for solutions, the father stated emphatically that he wouldn't go to the hospital with us since it's a woman's responsibility to take of a child. And that he can only release his phone so we can contact his wife. He wasnt being irresponsible. That is the mindset of a lot of the men in that community. The wife in question had major scars and stitches on her face (reportedly given by her husband). But It wasn't even time to address the domestic violence. Rebecca is fine now. Thanks to Ayobami who raised money and went to the hospital with the mother and child everytime they needed to go. Thanks to Ajibulu Sam Hardeykunlay for the RedCross intervention. I have several stories to justify women being more vulnerable in poverty situations especially due to archaic cultural norms. Their traditions might not change today but we hope to change their world view one woman, one man, one girl and one boy at a time.
