I have. One thing I’d say is that Igbo people tend to be somewhat more fond of cooking food with turkey more than Yorubas (and torotoro, in-turn, is probably more popular in Imo State than anywhere-else, especially with their Christmas stews and jellof rice) and that’s another important factor when it comes to making certain types of soup/maximising their taste and so I would like to see more efo-riro cooked with that than just major cow-roundabouts (which are still very important for what they are). With certain of even those higher-ranking Yoruba foods I just get the vibe that an Owerri or Awka woman could just make it better given a bit more direct exposure to whatever the food is so I can be a bit sheepish in ascribing a great deal of credit to Yorubas for foods beyond the good take so many of them have more general/shared Nigerian foods (moi-moi, akara, rice, stews) unless they’re from Ondo/Ekiti (they really do have a lot of good native foods) but for what it is now efo riro is actually a very sweet one and I enjoy it.
Ekiti people are more likely to serve it with e/agidi, yam and rice, whereas other Yorubas (I don’t think efo-riro is particularly common with Ondo folk, so obviously apart from them) tend to go more with utara-ji/eba as a side-food; am I right?

Gbegiri isn’t too bad but it’s also more Nupe than anything else and I’m fairly sure they don’t take it with amala.

Anyway, all Nigerian foods that resonate with one’s tastebuds are there for the taking. Tribal origins shouldn’t really matter that much.

Not being funny but ogbono’s an Igbo name. There’s absolutely no doubt that Idu/Bini people like it a lot as well but when some ownership thereof wants to be placed on it it might as well be called by its Edo name.

I'm Igbo, have tasted lots of foods from different tribes, I think a tribal soup I like most is edikaikong soup. I don't even know whether I got the spelling.

For me any vegetable soup goes as far as it looks neat and not slimy.

You know it. Any Yoruba/Edo/northern Nigerian who has a major Naija-foodie penchant beyond rice, akara, kpomo and mai-mai wants (in certain ways) to be Igbo or Calabar so bad. I guarantee it.

What pisses me off is the myopic-ness some Nigerians (Igbos are more adaptive than Yorubas and others by our very nature but even Igbos can be pig-headed about adaption to the obodo-oyime) have when they’re in another country. No doubt there are a lot of contributing factors that are stooped in racial mistreatment and misplaced ‘supremacy’ what do need to be systematically-tackled but even at that the world’s one and full of countries and different customs (which may or may not have distant links to that of your home-country) to explore. It’s not all about Nigeria, Nigeria and more Nigeria. The whole world’s your oyster and there for the taking. You’ve just got to get used to different climates.

I’ve got a cousin (British-born-and-bred, no less, like) who lived in Canada for a few years and she had to just buckle up and go to work whatever the snow while she was there. People in the U.K. aren’t used to owt like the snow you get in Canada and the northerner parts of the States but at some point (unless it’s really that blistery) you’ve just got to get on with it when there’s money to be made. Canada’s a country that actually is equipped to deal with snow so they have more leeway for navigation when it’s like that. If a snow-day in Toronto became officially-authorised motif for a day inside smoking kush and drinking Joe (as feasibly-tempting as that would be at just-about any other time) no-one would go to work more than a few days in a year.

That one I can understand. Canada snow’s something else altogether. In the U.K., on the other hand, all you’ve got to do is be careful walking on patches of ice about once a year. Britain isn’t a nation that has plenty of snow (except certain parts of Scotland) so when it does come it’s quite the event.

I appreciate the sentiments but there’s more to the world than just Nigeria (1 country out or 180). If you can’t handle the cold, go back to the kitchen.

It is. I rant and rave about how non-Ondo/Ekiti Yorubas aren’t so good when it comes to variety and soups but two things they’re definitely good at cooking are efo and rice. All jokes of excess-pepper/oil aside no-one can pretend that on average Yoruba people don’t cook jollof rice at least just as well as Igbos. They’re good.

As far as efo riro goes I feel like yam and agidi (egidi, eko) are better bedfellows for it but it’s alright with rice. Mhm.

I mean, there are worse hustles out there.

I’m sorry but linguistically Ikwerre is just complex Igbo.
