If Nigeria turned into heaven today, people will still travel to other countries. Even biblical Angels used to sneak away from heaven to visit horrible Earth (comparatively) to fornicate with human women. There are more Americans living in Europe and other parts of the world than Nigerians. And, pound for pound, there are more South Africans living in other parts of the world than Nigerians. It is the Opposition Politics Industry of Nigeria that is stupefying Nigerians and creating these pathetic spectacles such as the one displayed by the woman in the video. This politics pressure group are hell bent on appropriating the intentions of all Nigerians into a uniform permanent anti Nigeria voice that is actually undermining Nigeria more than any so called evil leaders. The woman in the video may have been forced to flee Nigeria due to whatever reason best known to her but I and countless other Nigerians are abroad for different reasons. We are not all abroad due to bad or good government. The state of Nigeria is incidental.

Reasons why individuals may leave one country for another are endless let's not limit ours to "Bad Nigeria" , let's stop lying.

Moreover only a certain number of Igbos (maybe 50-55%) are Catholic in the first place. I understand a personal pan-Igbo coinage being derived from that in the ’80s but beyond that (literally) I wouldn’t ascribe mass to anyone other than Ireland, the raggedy side of Rome and t’pope.

2000 years sef far. If we go back just 500 years ago, it will be extremely hard, to communicate with our own people. Forget 1000 years ago. You will understand nothing.

When you look at languages that have a long history of writing you'll realise how true this is. Take English for example. Shakespeare wrote his plays 450 years ago. English speakers today struggle to understand him. In school, we had to use the glossary pages to make sense of plays like Macbeth and Merchant of Venice. Another English writer, Chaucer, wrote Canterbury Tales 630 years ago. I have tried to read it. I no understand wetin him dey talk. And this was "only" 630 years ago.

Heck, a book written in the 1950s would differ significantly in terms of syntax (although I do tend to somewhat align with it in certain ways because I just happen to be old-skool).

All these elongated versions of Christmas are just adaptations of the word itself as the world knows it. Saying otherwise is like claiming that osikapa is an indigenous Igbo word for rice when, in-fact, Igbo and Igala (who share the term, likewise for okpa Waawa) borrowed it from Hausa (shinkafa). Not every term needs to be nichely-adapted. People in conc. villages are capable of pronouncing “Christmas.”

“oshikapa jelloffu.” It’s jollof rice, man. There’s no shame or over-ajeboness in saying it normally. There’s no harm in adding a touch of crayfish (no matter what Flo. Chinyere - as good as she is generally - says) but there’s no harm in using a term what’s just easier on the tongue.

Surely it’s easier to just say Christmas.

The way things are going very-few people In Nigeria at the moment have that kind of money to withdraw monthly anyway.

Okay, I’m going to slip in here in the day and (as well as replying one or two people properly, like I said I would) ask about what special dishes from Esan, Ika, Urhobo, Hausa and the Osun-Ondo-Ekiti part of Yorubaland that I might not have tried yet (I’ll add them to my bucket-list). I know we throw shade and we might not be totally lying or even exaggerating when it comes to pointing out others’ comparative flaws but we love each other really (and ’tis the season of love, not just bucket-loads of chin-chin and torotoro).

Has anyone on this thread tried isapa soup?

I think the Yorubas around generally have a higher tendency of sticking to the traditional methods of cooking their meals/soups, the reason it seems like there's no varieties to the efo riro I asked you about. But you can actually garnish efo riro with other condiments and according to your tastes, whether it's turkey you want to add or beef, goat meat, chicken, fish etc. I've actually eaten efo riro with cooked with all of the above several times o. I remembered the day my friend and I, prepared efo riro at the corper's lodge at Udi. We became demigods among them that day and till the rest of our service year.

This is something I’m probably going to have to take time out to reply properly so I’m not going to say too much at the moment but I actually wanted to thank you for taking the time to reply to my efo-turkey post properly. It’s always a good thing to be able to have conversations with someone on this level.
