All i can say is that, if you get to the point that you have to "test" your girlfriend/fiancee, i'll say call it quits. What is the point?

@ Democrat,

Its just my guess. Ive read quite a few of your posts in the past and thats why im putting you around PA. Anyways, 100 miles radius should land u in either VA, DC or MD for where u are. So its kinda the same. It all cold, snowy, wet etc. For my comfort always sunny Sothern Calif. The only downside is that i can't do a RORO for here angry

@ Londoncool,

I'm looking at the 5 bedroom and i can't find a balcony where to relax. may be im looking at it wrong.

Also let me lie to you briefly. No matter how trusted those in Nigeria are, you will spend a bit more than if you are based in Nigeria. So be prepared. People will add on somewhere along the line. NO MATTER HOW. May not be your brother or family member but ther will be an add on.

Also, last but not the least, be prepared to visit Nigeria to personally choose, inspect and direct some of the ideas of the project. IT IS YOUR IDEA. And no one could interprete it better than you. I suggest that when  the building is about to start. Check that the blocks are strong enough ane meet spects (since its not a bungalow) Foundation is strong enough to handle things. You don't want a collapsed bulding midway.

Contractor don't mind charging you for full and deliver Qtr. Keep the honest people honest.

Visit again when structure is up and roofed. Select fittings and make sure that workmanship is up to par. Clean job. Its your $$$. You deserver to get the best for it.

AutosRe: Used Cars Wanted by promise72(m): 2:16am On Apr 16, 2007
@ chibdo,

its kind of hard to judge the car offered to u for $6700 as far as condition goes. How clean and running condition. But as far as im concerned, the car should be in tip top shape at that price.

As for a new e46 in the US you should be ready to shell out anywhere from mid 30-40 thousand dollar brand new depending on the model (323, 325, 328). It will definately be higher if you venture into the realms of M3.

As far as im concerned, for my $$ in the US, if i want a BMR i will go for a good used ones. Prices of BMR drops very fast after they are used that it might not be worth buying them new. Lease returns, prior rentals, auctions etc etc

But if you have the $$ to shell, what do i know, im just an ijebu man. grin

AutosRe: Used Cars Wanted by promise72(m): 1:31pm On Apr 14, 2007
@ fenionisan,

I'll take that back. i guess his question wasnt well understood.  the E36/E46 he was refering to was a chassis code. BMW and mercedes actually denotes their vehicles with chassis numbers to signify which model. Unfortunataly mercedes has something similar denoting high performance mercedes like the AMG E55, E63. ML55 etc etc.

I thought he was questioning a difference between a BMW and a Benz. Back to the E36/E46, everytime BMW changes design/or body style of a particular model, it will denotes a new E code to help in identification. The higher the E code, it usually mean the newer model.

I happen to have an "old school" BMW 320i, 1981. Great car. Runs like a clock. I still have it. its refered to as the E21 chassis and newer ones are E29 etc etc.

@ Chibdo,

I will say chibdo, to get any of the BMW you can afford. He's bound to get a great car. The 3 series BMW has the best handling of vehicles in its class (Lexus. Mercedes etc). According to my latest knowledge, the 3 series genarates about 60% revenue for BMW, hence the reason to make it one of the best vehicles. Its the one to copy as far as a "driver's car" is concerned.

Any question, let me know. Sorry for the mix up.

AutosRe: Bullet Proof Tyres by promise72(m): 1:14am On Apr 14, 2007
Bullet proof tires are sometimes refered to as a "no flat tire" Simply the inner walls of these tires are coated with another layer of a gummy rubber substance that swells and reacts with the air. So as soon as there is a punture either by a bullet/nail etc. the inner compound swells to reseal the hole.

Also the inner wall or sidewall of these tires are much stronger that ordinary tires. The are designed to carry the weight of the vehicle some distance.

I dont want you to be confused that "bullet proof" tires means that bullet cannot penetrate. No such thing. it will only allow the car to drive for a while for you to get out of danger zone. The approoriate term for the tire is "bullet resistant".

There is a split second window between dying and living. These tires are on designed to buy you that precious seconds. A punctured tire will go about 250km driving at about 100km/hr before it shreds apart. if you think about it, thats a long way away from the enemy. i hope this helps grin
AutosRe: Used Cars Wanted by promise72(m): 12:47am On Apr 14, 2007
@ Democrat,

Like ive said, big props to you and keep up the good work. I am sure i will run into you someday in MD (im guessing)

@ Chibdo,

I love you taste in cars. The E36 and the E46 are the "AMG" version of the Benz E320 and E430 series. Consider them as the evil twin. I havent driven one but i heard good things about them. Blindning FFFFAAAAAAASSSSSTTTTT!!!!!. The BMW version is the M5 series.

However there is a catch. AMG tuned Mercedes tend to be what is refered as a "Low volume Mercedes" i.e limited qty made. As much as they share considerable parts with "regular" E320/E420 series there are parts that are specifically for the E36/E46. So, that translates to you having to call Germany or US if you need such parts. Also the routine service parts like plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, brake pads, shocks, etc are different from "regular" Benzes cos the E36/E46 are HIGH PERFORMANCE BENZES . Hence, more $$$$$. it will cost you.

Unless, you are a fanatic of MBZ like yours truly here (hoping/praying eiday). You should consider the long run economics of owning these cars. Its a case of "the rich also cry" However if you are loaded, i'll say go for it. If you plan driving in Naija, think about the road. Its uselss pushing a car that can do abot 300km/hr or more but no road to drive it.

However, when time allows, these cars will bring out the kid in you. You will kill all the chickens in your neighborhood cos they cant get out of the way fast enough grin . That will mean more enemy for you.

If you wanna be gentle, i'll say go for the 3 series and u know u will get parts for em everytime. "To marry a wife no be the problem but to give am soup money everytime is" grin

A word for the wise.
AutosRe: Used Cars Wanted by promise72(m): 7:03am On Apr 13, 2007
@ Seyijay,

Sorry for the late response. i havent been to this site in a while. im based in california. I don't presently ship any car to Nigeria at present but plan to. I have beeen living in calif. since 92 and have a very healthy idea of the auto industry especially in the US

Anywhere from now to 25years back, it will be hard to teach me anything new especially US vehicles. I pretty much agree with most of Democrat post (Hes very straight-forward, knowlegeable, and generous with his advise but sometimes on the itty bitty arrogant side of the fence. No offence). im sure i'll run into him someday. Hes in East Coast if im not mistaken.

As far as the 1999 vs the 2001 Camry is concerned, its pretty much the same car except for few diffences notably the lights. front and back. The engine is either 2.0 4 cylinder or the 3.0 6 cylinder.
For my money (as a Bonafide Ijebu  grin), i will go for the 4 cylinder because of the overall running cost. it saves more petrol than the 6 cylinder. However, the 6 cylinder is faster and runs smoother. The same engine in the Camry 6 cylinder is what u will find in the Avalon, ES300 Lexus or Camry Solara.

There has been a slight complain in the 6 cylinder toyota engines more than the 4 cyl. especially the 4-Runner. So bottom line, if you are not bothered by the thin tail light vs the fat tail light on the Camry. i say step up to the 1999 and save some $$$$ ijebu style  grin

Any further questions, please shoot. I'm in the process of obtaining my dealers license here in california and hope to start pushing cars semi full time very soon. Buying and shiping cars is sort of $$$ consuming because of shipping, clearing, displaying and actually selling the car. You have to put a lot of arithmetic into it especially if you are on loan.

This is a forum. im in no way dissing Democrat. He knows his stuff. Just my opinion. Another guy i've found knowlegeable is a guy by the name "ivvie" i think.

AutosRe: Prices Of Second-hand Cars In Nigeria? by promise72(m): 6:09am On Mar 25, 2007
@ Ndipe,

im somewhat ashamed that a fellow californian is asking this type of question. it borders between "clinical retardation and mental incapacitation" prices of second hand cars in Nigeria? what type of car? how clean? mileage? etc. If you are not careful i will petition homeland security to conduct an IQ test on you and i am very sure you will be deported based on your IQ result.

You've been able to make good contributions in the past but this 1 questions negates all your browny points. So refocus your question and dont be retarded. 1 strike is all u got.

By the way, go and visit www.mototrader.net and all your questions will be answered grin

Bow down to someone greater than u in skilz.

@ Democrat,

Democrat:
Olat

Buy it!! Nigerians need to know that Americans manufacture very tough vehicles. If you have access to Parts you are good. Order the repair Manual and enjoy your ride!!
No offence. I wanna know what the hell you know about Nigeria and american cars. You want him to buy a car on the condition that "if he has access, , and order a repair manual" When you can buy a car that YOU ARE SURE the parts are available and he sure dont need any repair manual. Any tom dick and harry can fix it. do u even think? whats the logic in that.

You really wanna tell me that a Corsica is better than Corolla/Primera? Are u retarded? America makes yough vehicle? Yes somewhat. On the truck but NEVER in small car. I've been living in the US for about 15yrs now, i have to tell u you have to know a WHOLE lot to teach me something i dont know in the automobiles. Sorry for the bragging.

Ford Taurus vs Camry? Nissan Maxima vs Chevy Lumina? the difference is clear.

We are talking Nigeria here, American vehicle parts are hard to come by, especially not so common car like a Lumina. think twice. Be Smart.

Peace.

Car TalkRe: Advice On Chevrolet Corsica Lt by promise72(m): 5:12am On Feb 16, 2007
@ Topic,

I saw this a bit late. I will say DONT buy it. Rather get a primera or Corolla. The parts of Chevy Corsica is more expensive than nissan/toyota. Parts are not readily available. Fuel consumption is higher on the corsica and general maintanance is costlier.

In the long run, its a piece of shit car, i promise you.

Goodluck.

FamilyRe: An Arranged Marriage: Is It Right? by promise72(m): 5:38am On Feb 13, 2007
@ Topic,

Lets all ask ourself. The name might be old but how is "arranged marriage" different from your friend hooking you up with someone else? I wouldnt kick against it if its my culture because the decision was made by someone else with a clear mind.

You meet someone, you like some feature about that person (eyes, butt, tits, height, etc etc) those things will instantly override your judgement/sanity and there is possibility of throwing caution into the wind. Things happens very quickly, 3 months down the road, girl is pregnant, guy is nowhere to be found and to make matter worse girl found out guy is married with 2 other children outside the wedlock. Now what?

However, if its arranged, its usually by people with your interest at heart, they can judge the 2 people and see if they'll match and go for it. Thats why divorce rate is low. whenever there is a problem, the family steps in. Everybody gets back in line because the family is involved. Rather than go to a therapist and pay $200/hr and talk to someone who knows nothin about u.

You go to dating site and they have something like xteristics match. Well thats what people who arranged marriage will do before they match people. Arranged marriage usually do a better job is not matching people of divergent xter (introvert vs extrovert etc). So when you kick against arrange marriage, but you're more than willing to let your friend set you up when he was drunk at a party or go to dating site and trying to sort out through the maze yourself.

And you call that smart?
FamilyRe: Nigerian Men by promise72(m): 5:15am On Feb 13, 2007
@ Topic,

As far as i am concerned, i like to keep things real. I probably wouldn't open the door for the lady not even on a first date. The reason being, the whole thing is a SHAM. Most guys will open door for the early few months of the relationship and stop. Its telling me one thing, EVERYONE IS GOIN BY THE SCRIPT cheesy

For something that i know i wouldnt be doin in the long run, why do it in the first place to impress and stop?. Only to be accused of fronting.

Same as the lady, they appear to be in accord with you. They don't seem to be bothered by your dressing styles, or friends during when you're "approving her application" As soon as the relationship goes to the next level then the rules start angry WTF?

I'll say just be yourself. If we got stuff in our hands while walking to the car, of course i will get the door for her. Except that,  i'll say NO. Thats why people get disappointed in relationship because "he don't do what he used to do for me". Meanwhile, the guy was just goin along just to score some browny points wink

The guy down the road is getting bombarded with so many rules. U start to think, "if i need someone to kick me around this much, i could have just stay at home with my Mom". all of a sudden my Mom's rule seems like a child's play grin

Culture or not, i will not do things that i can't keep up with in the long run. Period. You want the truth, i hope you can handle the truth.
