TravelRe: How Not To Get A Wife In Nigeria If You Live Abroad by promise72(m): 5:19am On Jan 20, 2007
Why dont you opt for a TALIBAN society. I suggest that when you meet a girl pay attention not much to what she say but to what she didnt say.

If you are a guy, this is my suggestion, introduce your potential wife around other women that you know (that doesnt have a vested interest of course) Let them hang out together for a while. You dont have to propose marriage on that visit. Let them "feel her" out. Women have a very uncanny ability to "sniff" out the bad about other women.

Also, if you are a lady, introduce your potential to other guys you know and see what they say. Guys know waht to look for (at least i do). Watch the mannerism. You can only hide your behavoir for so long. "Eefin ni iwa" (Xter is like a smoke) It will ooze out unknowingly. Meet his/her parents and access things yourself.

I know this is the age of internet etc etc . However nothing, i mean NOTHING substitute for good ol 6th sense.

Of course, no partner will be 100% perfect, all you need to do is determine how the shortcomings outweigh the good and if you can live with it.

Women always want to change a guy. Guys always think that the girl is cool wt my attitude. And there goes the problem. Ask yourself, if he/she dont change this behaviour, will it be ok or a deal breaker.

if you follow those rules from the original poster, you will be single forever sad

Car TalkRe: Best SUV For Nigeria? by promise72(m): 12:50am On Jan 20, 2007
hey,

sounds like a good idea but one problem though. What if the car needs to be moved? Let me tell you a quick story. When i was growing up, there was a big "Area bro" in the town . His mom dont let him touch the car (2 benzs) to be exact, even though he can drive. Then one day, there was a fire in the house, happen to start around the garage. area guess whats in d garage? cheesy you guessed it. The almighty BENZO. No one around to move 'em except that Bro cos the mom dont know how to drive (you know how those rich alhaja are? Driver all the time) it happened in the evening, Driver already went home.

To cut a long story short, the Bro yanga for a while and eventually moved them and since that day he earned his unlimited access the cars. grin

ITS NOT ADVISABLE to leave that type of cars in Niger with to key with anyone but u overseas. Yuo never know. However, you can always take a chance.

FamilyRe: Which Schools Are Best - Nigerian Schooling Or Uk Schooling ? by promise72(m): 11:41am On Jan 19, 2007
i will say let your kid be at least 18 b4 they step out ouf Nigeria. So the love of the country will be with them and they can always think of coming home to see you. If they come at very young age they may lose all memory of naija and to good friend there 2 connect to.hence no need 2 come back.

there are still good schools in naija and will be a bit cheaper for your wallet 2. for about 300-400pounds per month it should cover upkeep. while you can barely feed/pay 4 babysitter in the UK for that type of money.

Discipline is still key. Respect 4 elders yari yari yara

RomanceRe: Single And Looking To Meet The One. by promise72(m): 5:19am On Jan 19, 2007
Ms Rubbermaid,

I just got 2 things to say. The pic you posted is not very good. First you are kissing some guy in the pic (not very appriopriate) and two, its not really showing your face. You need a full length pic of yourself clearly showing the face. No sunglasses. Little smile OK. No laughing too much.

The idea is that you want the other party to see you for who you are and he can make of his mind. You dont really have to hide anything. The person will eventually see you. There should be no surprises.

Lastly, i dont have a masters, i have a Bachelors and few AA degrees. As far as im concerned that should be enough. After Bachelors, there not much to prove anyway. At least you know that the person is educated enough to carry a conversation with.

with that said, you can drop me a line. I live in Riverside, CA. So you dont have to file ejire paper for me, waste money for phonecard etc.

This sat. we can hang out. See where this leads grin

You down 4 me?
CrimeRe: Nigerian Youth Sentenced To Death In Singapore! NairaLanders Do Something by promise72(m): 9:41pm On Jan 18, 2007
to Gbengaijot,

you are right. However, it is the responsibility of any citizen to jnow how f--d up its country is. Being a Nigerian, you suppose to know that your govt will not give a hoot about u. hence dont put yourself in a precarious situation. If gonna carry contraband research the country you will offend its law. Example, you stand a better chance of offending a UK/US law as far as drugs are concerned. The worst that could happen is that you will be jailed and u will come out alive someday.

In contrast, you try same thing in Saudi, your head will be cut off. We have alot of our citizen facing problems overseas and you are basically on your own. Heck, just to get apassport renewed overseas (even in Uk or US) thru the Nigerian Embassy is a hassle. Getting them on the phone alone in the US, you will count yoursel lucky if you are able to speak with somebody at all.

How on earth will i go put myself in a "jaga jaga" knowing all these things?. Lets face it, no matter where u go in life, justice for a black man is still lacking compared for a white man. U were comparing the case of a british citizen and Prince Charles was there. Well remeber there is BBC whicjh happens to be in every country. Of course they will broadcast the news. Pakistan will be more willing listen to Britain cos of other Diplomatic issues they will face if they fail to listen and carry out the sentence.

What does Pakistan need from Nigeria? What is their Diplomatic relationship at present? So dont compare apple and oranges.

I still maintain, Hang that boy high. i will volunteer to pull the lever grin

FamilyRe: Can You Marry A Former Prostitute? by promise72(m): 11:29am On Jan 18, 2007
it all depends. Where is she "coming from" and where "shes at". Lets say she was a prostitute when she was btw 18-25 and now shes about 29-30 going to school and "grown up" and working towards a goal. At least it better that you know " A known devil is much better than an unseen angel". Also if she was a prostitute in a different part of the world/country you can always start somewhere else and move on as long as you are both on the "same page"

Some of these "regular girls" yo end up finding about their roster your mouth go drop. You say at least she should have been smart enough to get paid well for it rather than just for a donut/meat pie at Mr Biggs or a recharge card grin

If you look at Vegas, prostitution is legal and disease rate is low cos people get tested and protect themselves cos everyone is "in the know". The worst thing is meeting a girl in say church/revival/mosque and assuming that she's up and up . Thats how disease get spread.

Its also a bit unfair, if its a guy hes a playboy but a girl is a LovePeddler. Just dont tell your family about her. It will be impossible to marry a girl who "honed her craft" in the same town that you ive in cos of people talk and your family will be all over you.

If an ex-prostitute will treat you right, cook, clean, place you on a pedestel and the other girl will hardly say hello to you in the morning which would you choose?

Remember the saying "No matter how fine a lady looks, there's a man somewhere sick and tired of her a$$" grin So your little "Mrs Sunshine" might as well be someone else's LovePeddler. Sorry to break it to you angry

Everything is case by case basis. Before you rfun out there and say "hell no" you never know.

Lastly, an ex-prostitute might actually be grateful that you were able to accept her past deed, hence your opportunity to live like a real king cheesy
Nairaland GeneralRe: Happiest And Saddest Moments in Your Life? by promise72(m): 6:30am On Jan 18, 2007
i know this is an old thread but what a heck.

Saddest day of my life when my dad died. Never knew i could, cry that hard. Didn't really hit me until about a week later while i was working (graveyard) myself and i all of a sudden started crying. Thank God i was by myself. I cried my eyes out.
Moved to the US back in '92 cos i wasn't getting along wt him. Basically he was trying to keep me in line and im glad he did. The older i get the smarter he became.

Anyway, moving back here, i always call him on the phone and we became good friends and i wish i could have more of that. I was fortunate to see him in person in Summer 2002 (greencard palava) and he passed 6 months later.

My mom is still around and i try my best, i sometimes wish i could just up and leave and go stay wt her but you know,

My Dad/Mon were together for about 47years and looooovvvvveee them very much.

Other saddest day is the day that my girl and i decided that the relationship will be ended.Sometimes its better to be honest to yourself and face reality, its more painful hanging on than just calling it quit.

Happiest day, i hope its still ahead of me.
TravelRe: United States : The World's Most Unfriendly Country by promise72(m): 10:31am On Jan 13, 2007
where do you get your info from?

why you expect them to open door to plenty of people and this place go be f!!d up like UK. Dont forget, they are getting all applications worldwide. not only nigeria.

For some reasons, Nigerians always think they are better than the rest of the world. We hate to follow rule. Thats how the country get to where it is.
FamilyRe: Having A Joint Account With Your Spouse? by promise72(m): 3:37am On Jan 13, 2007
it all come down to love, respect and trust. Dont marry if any is lacking. I mean truly lacking. If you have to grill your spouse while you were dating to account for how every minute of the last 6hrs was spent, i say the last thing you wanna be thinking about is ajoint account.

Different folks, different strokes. It works for some, it doesnt for others. some people stay married forever, some only few months. thats not putting it on marriage, its in the ingredient for everybody.

If we can agree on how money will be spent and what % will be contributed by whom, there should be no problem.

Personally, i say its 4 accts for married couples. 2 will be joint, 2 will be individual.

1st joint grin (its not what you're thinking, crackheads grin): All bills and responsibilities of the house will be done thru that, then the 2nd joint shocked wink wink, will be emergency funds/savings etc.

The remaining 2 will be individual. do whatever you want with it. set it on fire if you want to, thats ur problem. And the key is: YOU SHOULD NOT BE ACCOUNTABLE TO NOBODY ON THIS ACCT. shopping?beer? classic cars? wife your a$$ with it? go ahead. answer to no one. Total freedom AS LONG AS YOU'VE MADE YOUR CONTRIBUTION to the common acct.
Car TalkRe: Best SUV For Nigeria? by promise72(m): 3:06am On Jan 13, 2007
Well,

let me lie to you for a minute. If thats the case, i suggest you find a cheap car (Corolla, primera, Accord) and leave it in Niaja. Cos even if you thing its safe, you have to flip your thought what if,

Suppose your little Bro go joyriding with it and its crashed, stolen etc youll rather lose a car under 1mill than a ride worth up to 3 mill or more depending on what you get.

Any fancy car should not be left in Naija in NOBODY's care if you dont go home often. Keep honest people honest.

If im your bro and im watching your car sit there. Will i be tempted to leave it alone, catch okada or i will be tmpted to ride it. I promise to be good and be care but as the saying goes "all days is for the thief, one day for the owner"

Then you get a call "Em Brother, em em em your car, em em em"

Keep a nice ride at home only if you live there.
