Come on Billyonaire! Don't b like dat just cos u don't like his opinion. Comfortable Nigerians do live abroad. A very high % of black US doctors are Nigerians and Nigerians r considered a "model group" in d united states (google Nigerians in America if u have time). As we have Nigerians in scam and toilet washing, we have a higher number in professional fields too...in fact many. After college in Florida, I got a pretty well payin job myself and only came to naija to get nysc out of d way, and I did find business opportunities which I am exploring in naija. But my plan is to go back to US. I agree dere is money in naija as there r lots of problems here (and problems = business opprotunity), but there are many ppl who would take comfort over millions (wats d point of having 300million naira in ur acct but the roads u drive ur range rover r bumpy and u have to deal with noisy generator sounds and bunch of other issues). In d US, d same quality of life would cost u less financially, and ur kids would also have a better chance at life.
Billyonaire: You call Nigeria hell hole, yet your relatives are marrying and residing in the hell hole. These "I wanna-gonna" toilet washers sef. They never stop to amuse us. No comfortable Nigerian lives abroad. I keep saying I love Owerri more than New York.

Precisely.
Roforofo: Loss of culture. Loss of childhood friends as in real ijinle friends.
However personally I don't care. Nigeria gave me nothing and our society celebrates corruption, tribalism, poor healthcare for our people, fake religiosity etc......Given all the rubbish in Nigeria I am happy to pay the price of losing my so called culture. Just two weeks ago my uncle was shot dead in Lagos during an armed robbery and the Police have said we should pay them 500,000 K before they investigate!!!! Culture ko, culture ni!!

Yo! Are u based in the northeast? I lived in Jersey for a bit...
Chrisbenogor: Yo,

The truth of the matter is that we as Nigerians and Africans in general are not as proud of our culture and of our heritage. There tribes here in Nigeria today that bear Whyte, Yellowe, Greene just to mention a few, they were colonized into dropping their native names not to talk of when they would find themselves immersed in another man's culture. We are quick to dump these values for the more "palatable" western culture. It pains me when I go around the US to see generations lost to Africa forever. Again one cannot help but agree with the poster that said you cannot eat your cake and have it. Even right here in Nigeria it takes a lot of effort especially in a generation that did not grow up in villages to keep that connect with where we are coming from.

To each his own though, there are those that have sworn that Nigeria is so bad they do not want to have anything to do with the country, I like to think that this trickles down to the kids one way or the other. More so the latino's and the Asians have in some way or the other preserved and even imported some of their culture into the western lives , so we hear people saying I want to go watch bull riding or lets order Chinese etc. While the society has a major role to play in shaping our kids one cannot help but also ignore the role their parents have played in their up bringing.

The long and short of the matter is this, if you have permanently relocated from Nigeria, in three to four generations your family would have probably lost every sense of being Nigerian. Naija might be a hell hole, but as always I would always be a Nigerian first, and so would my kids.

I have seen ur posts in dis forum, and arguing with u is like talking to a table. You cannot make urr points without calling ppl names or being overtly insulting. I am going to ignore you from now on.
shymexx:

You're not making any sense at all... Maybe, you need to study why Nigeria is the way it is, before posting your skewed assertions...

Why is Nigeria so corrupt?? Has it ever occurred to you that the whole country is in shambles because of the system of government we practice - and over imitation of western culture on the Nigerian mentality

What's the Nigerian identity?? What should have been the Nigerian identity with it roots in our various cultures has been eroded by western influence - and we don't even know who we're anymore - we're just a bunch of headless chickens trying to fit in somewhere... Don't blame the culture for that - blame the people and their over imitation of everything 'western' at the expense of the Nigerian culture(s)...

The balderdash you posted has nothing to do with the culture - but the people, who have no sense of belonging and are trying too hard to be everything but Nigerian... undecided

Let's stop kidding ourselves; nigerian culture is over hyped! We diasporans like to think we morally better off or our culture is sooo much better dan dat of Americans. If we have such a great culture, why isn't it reflected in our society? Why is Nigeria sooo corrupt? Why do we leave 80% of our society in abject poverty? Why are our leaders; even just regular citizens sooo corrupt? I just got back to Nigeria barely less than a year and been scammed/duped by my best childhood friend (she doesn't pick my calls or returns my BB msgs anymore cos she is ashamed; dis is a girl from a notable family for dat matter). I am sorry to say if u r a diasporan, u really need to come home to see dat we really hv no values in this society anymore. Girls use their bodies to get high marks in unis, even d married girls r on parole, ppl marry for d wrong reasons, d private schools cost as much as american schools but d standard is about 60% close to wat u get in d US, d kids only respect ppl with a lil money, actually every1 here respect only ppl with a lil change; bottomline is I don't know what Nigerian values r...
Americans have a sense of who they are and where they want to be...we know American ideals of Dignity, self respect, hard work, innovation, entrepreneurship, human rights and equal opportunity for all. What are Nigerian ideals? Do we have any? Or are we just fantasizing about family/villages raising kids? How many little kids in Nigeria have d level of advanced thinking an average 5yr old american has? How come we glorify scammers/get rich quick no matter d means men here in Nigeria? We call d scammed maga (I wasn't even greedy when I got scammed...long story for another day).
As I said b4, I have been here less than a year, and I hv concluded dat dis is not d Nigeria I used to know; frankly this is not d type of society where I would love to raise a kid. I want my kids to be exposed to science, innovation, diverse cultures; I want them to know what real love is..., I want them to learn to love ppl for who they are and learn to stand up for what is right...dats not very possible here.
D orientation here is of very low quality. No surprise we r where we r.

exactly. In well developed countries...every revolution had young ppl on the forefront...we here; we just want everyone to shut up when we are just a day older than them
Willzkid: I still don't get the "Is she my mate?" part of the media aide's statement..
This complex is really killing us...
Children can't reason with their parents, because their parents will always ask what they know
students cannot approach lecturers for fear of being seen as too forward
Now a media aide cannot inquire on the first lady's itinery, not because it contravenes the law, but because "she's not his mate"..
We are breeding a timid generation, if I must say..

Just the other day I was at the bank, and some lady probably in her 40s after wasting everyone's time on the queue...decided to just stay
chatting on her BlackBerry after she had finished her transaction...(I was like wtf is going on here; so this woman is just going to stay here like she doesnt know she is in a public place and ppl are potentially behind her?). After like 3 mins of patiently looking at her pinging away, I was like, SO ARE U DONE? she looked at me like she was going to tell me how rude I was cos of her age, but I didn't care...cos she was totally wrong to just stand there when others were waiting to be served. I was next in line to her so no other person knew she was done..
I went ahead to say, WELL IF YOU ARE DONE, U SHOULD LEAVE BECAUSE THERE ARE OTHERS BEHIND U...She was dumbfounded and was like, "oh i didnt know there were ppl behind me"...
Nigerian elders need to start respecting themselves...nobody is going to watch you display ur nonsense anymore...u want a better country? Start demanding respect and good behavior from everyone in this country (I would probably have been more gentle on a much older person like in 60s and above as some of them need lots more patience to deal wit).

Nobody is going to put a gun on my head and force me to talk when I have no fresh information," he said.
Asked when the First Lady will return, he retorted: "I don't know. I don't have any information on that. You don't expect me to call her and ask her when are you returning, is she my mate? Ours is to ensure everything is in order to receive her once her return is made known to us. I do not have fresh information on that".

WOW! No wonder Nigeria is the way it is. Why cant he ask her when she would be back? What is disrespectful about that?
She is d first lady which means she is to serve this country and we deserve to know what is going on.
If Obama and/or his wife leave the US, Americans know when they would be back...
Are Nigerian elders/leaders so arrogant that they cannot be questioned anymore...If that is what we call culture, mehn, dis country is done for...i dont think we can ever develop...

youngies: Nigerian couple who beat their six children jailed after Coronation Street barmaid Michelle Collins gave evidence against them
Two cruel parents convicted of a decade long campaign of abuse against their six children were jailed for seven years each today.

The Nigerian couple, who claimed their kids were possessed by evil spirits, were found guilty after Coronation Street star Michelle Collins gave evidence against them.

They beat their children with brooms, hoovers and wires and even gave their baby a morphine overdose just days after her first birthday.

Five of the children were finally rescued after their eldest daughter threw a heart-wrenching SOS note out of a window.

But it wasn't until their one-year-old baby was given a morphine overdose over a year later that police reopened the case which led to their prosecution.

The plight of the children was so bad that Miss Collins, who met them at a church lunch, took them to the cinema 'because she felt sorry for them'.

She gave evidence as a prosecution witness during the trial of the parents, both 40, who cannot be named to protect their six children.

But the parents claimed they were victims of a conspiracy - and even alleged Miss Collins was involved in a witch hunt against them and wanted to ‘steal’ their children.

One of the youngsters, a baby at the time, had been allowed to stay in the home despite the fact the five other children had to be rescued.

Sentencing them to seven years behind bars each, Judge James Patrick described it as 'shocking mistreatment' that they had tried to cover up with a 'web of deception'.

Judge Patrick said: 'No-one who sat through this trial could help but be moved by the fact that these intelligent, charming, fun, lovable children continue to love you despite what you put them through.'

The married couple denied the allegations claiming they were victims of a racist witch-hunt but were found guilty of cruelty to a person under 16.

They argued the children had been 'brainwashed' into making the allegations by the police, the council and Miss Collins who they said 'wanted to steal' them, Wood Green Crown Court heard.

But Judge Patrick noted: 'You alleged a conspiracy involving a well-known actress, who had done nothing but show your family generosity and kindness, a member of a housing charity, social workers and foster carers.

'Those who had taken the trouble to support you were repeatedly accused of dishonesty, lying, and conspiracy to rob you of your children when the reality was that both of you were lying - in fact they ware simply seeking to give your children stability.'

The abuse came to the attention of police in April 2010 when their nine-year-old wrote an SOS note and threw it out of her bedroom window.

The heart-breaking plea read: 'My mum is the worst mum ever because she can’t cope with five of us, her broken hand and being pregnant. She always leaves me out so I always starve and I am forced to work.

'If I don’t get enough house work done, I am beaten without mercy with the wooden end of a broom. I have scars all over me to prove it. I can’t stay here. I would like a new mum.'
Fashion / Who Uses Glutathione Pills For Their Skin? Which Brand? by pufectskin: 8:50pm On Aug 11, 2012
Hello ppl, so I am looking for Glutathione pills that actually work. Does anyone have any experience with a good brand? Or do you know anyone that is getting good results with the pills? What brand is the person using? Thanks
Fashion/Clothing Market / Re: Where Can One Buy Meladerm And Glutathione In Nigeria? by pufectskin: 8:22pm On Aug 11, 2012
Pls what brand of Glutathione pills did ur friend use?
vanessaven: My friend and former roomate has vitiligo and was recommended Menzobenzone, and it only made her condition worse. HQ and the other readily available skin lighteners on the market didn't help either and in some cases were just damned dangerous. Trust me, I lived with her for several years and she's tried all sorts of stuff, and frankly, her frustration knew no bounds.
But recently, she got one of our girlfriends coming back from the UK (she was on a scholarship) to buy her Meladerm and Gluthatione (the soap and pills) and they worked wonders!!! The pills didn't just help her skin but her health in general. She even gave me a month's supply then and I can testify to the fact that the pills worked wonders, as it's the best Antioxidant known to man (better than VIT C and Co)

The problem is that, she's run out of all these. Since buying these thing online is not really a nice option (costs and the fact that direct shipping to nigeria is veeeeeeeeeeery difficult). Since it isn't something you just pick up anywhere, where can we get it here in Nigeria?

Yea u r absolutely correct. Also some roads r sooo bad that u ll have to drive against traffic to avoid such roads. For instance dere is one road at Lekki ph 1 3rd gate dat is soooo bad, practically alll motorist have to share d other side of d road. Yea b4 such laws can be effective, we would need better roads n signs...
pro01: Without mincing words, I feel no pity for the dead LASTMA official. Fashola and his goons are very i.d.i.o.t.i.c in putting the cart before the horse with their senseless traffic law. What exactly is "driving against traffic"? Where are the signs indicating one way roads? In sane societies, one-way roads are CLEARLY designated as such - with clear signs to indicate the status of roads. In such cases, no one can claim ignorance of the law. What do we have here in Lagos? Every driver is expected to have magical powers to know which road is one-way and which isn't. How many times have we seen these fools called LASTMA lurk around street corners where there are no road signs, only to jump out of nowhere to pounce on an innocent drivers in the name of having driven against traffic?

It is all ridiculous, and if Fashola does not have the sense and the will to put appropriate measures in place before implementing the traffic laws, then he is a total disgrace.

Dear All, I am sure we all heard the story going round about the Banker who allegedly killed a lastma official by knockin him down with her car. Eye witnesses on the scene insist that the lastma official was infact knocked down by a danfo bus he was tryin to accost AFTER he arrested the Banker for a traffic offence. In fact, her car was about bein towed as can be seen from the pic on the lastma website. Lastma is trying to skew the story as murder nd she is currently in detention. Pls note that I have seen her car and it doesn't hav a single dent on it. Kindly spread the word nd encourage eye witnesses to come forward nd give statements at Panti. She is a mother of 3(including a 2mth old baby who is with her in detention). Please note that the incident with Banker, Yinka Johnson nd Lasma Official happened yesterday 10/08/2012 at Ikota, Lekki Express Way. Please call 08037076890 if you have information.

U didn't just say u feel for a person who not only broke the law but murdered a fellow human being with a right to life and whose family have a right to be with him.
You are ridiculous and it is silly lopsided sentiments like this that make africa completely backward. Are you saying that there shouldn't be laws and that that because a person was running away from the law shldnt be punished. Out of fear indeed! Well, if she didn't break d law in d first place, she wouldnt b running out of fear. You don't even have a clue how horrific the laws are in societies where things actually work. These laws are nothing beside them. I was doing a reverse on a (took me just 5secs to do it) on a US highway in 2009, and I got slammed by a policeman with several charges and guess wat it went into my record for life so that when I get a new job, my new employer can go into d drivers database to bring out my driving history; he can decide not to employ me cos of dat. Laws are meant to protect citizens, but NO, we africans don't like dem, do we? Obviously u even support a lawless and murderous human being (a risk on any road anywhere in d world). The loonie dat u r.
Acidosis: . .feeling for this lady. . .the torture and everything shes about to go through.

while trying to escape General Fashola's law, she met a more severe and everlasting damage.

I sense more death of lastma officials cos "nobody wan go jail" Hope they learn from this, and to know the guy involved care less about his life by struggling with a pre-loaded suv. .I have little pity for him. Even our police men know this, they only stop a car from a distance.

Who knows, this lady might have come across the topic on nairaland suggesting one to zoom off, when ever you crush someone to death on the road.
