First of all, niceuzor did not use an adjective interjectively with a noun.  Rather, he used it interchangeably.
Secondly, my contention here is not about his own grammatical blunder, but your own proposed correction which supposes that he did not get his tenses right.  Perhaps, you should look up the meaning of the word 'tense' in a dictionary, and explain to us how niceuzor's blooper translates to him not getting his tenses right!  Obviously, you seem to incorrigibly believe that every grammatical blunder committed, stems from the offender's inability to get his tenses right, even if it's just a spelling error!

No one asked you for the definition of a forum. There's a difference between improving one's grammar and improving one's vocabulary. The former is what the poster intends to work on. Using big words is not equivalent to having a good command of the English language. The fundamental aspect one needs to start with in order to improve one's grammar, is to work on the tenses. As my good friend, mrpataki, would say, "Get your tenses right". When that aspect is solved, the urge to want to "blow big grammar" will come naturally, and I believe he will be self-motivated to always pick up his dictionary. A dictionary only serves the purpose for which it was created - to help one learn new words. But what's the use when you don't even know how to apply them correctly in the first place?

Saula, I learnt, was a tough guy. But unfortunately, he couldn't prove that to Mr. Death. More unfortunate is the fact that all the wealth he had managed to amass over the years, will not follow him to wherever he is now.

We can make these areas available to either interested state Governments or people with political interest that can finance the development of their model state. This New Nigeria City will be a 24hrs powered city.

Seun is right.  What you most likely heard her say was "I'd", which is a contraction of "I would" or "I had".  The usage of "I had", however, depends on the context, which in most cases, is usually followed by "better". e.g: "I had better leave you two alone".  We could also have "had rather" in some instances, although, that smacks of words spoken in the medieval times, IMO.

Now back to your question:  In English Language, there is what is called "Real Past" and "Unreal Past".  The "Unreal Past" (which is the case here) is a situation whereby, even though we are talking about the present, the tense used is in the past.  Just as "It's high time" always precedes a past tense, "I'd rather" also precedes a past tense.  I really don't know how to explain this articulately, but I believe this explanation should do: http://www.edufind.com/english/grammar/IF10.cfm.  You can also google this for a more detailed explanation, and you may want read up on Subjunctive mood as well.

The much anticipated event came off yesterday, and I tell you, it was really great.  I was there, and others that were equally there can attest to that.  Infact, Deolu has posted articulately how the event went.  Read on:

In what can be classified as one of the most successful events in the history of Nigerian events, the New Naija club (popularly known as New Nigeria Club) was launched in a sea of green white green in one of the roomiest halls in Lagos, filled to capacity. The event kicked off at 3:00pm New Nigeria time, and history was written as each speaker got up to speak about their belief in a New Nigeria and their excitement about the New Nigeria Club concept.

The event was chaired by the much respected Prof. Pat Utomi, and the list of speakers included, Fela Durotoye, Gbenga Sesan, Frank Mba (Police PRO), Niyi Adesanya, Myself (Adeolu Akinyemi) and some others. The program was also well packed with entertainment from Sound Sultan, Trusaintz, Ari, Simi and Sam Clef.

The event also did not lack dignitaries, who came to represent different arms of the government, the chairman of the Lagos state house of representatives, judiciary council, The Founder and Administrator of the Little Saints orphanage, representatives from the ministry of tourism Lagos, representative from Education, EFCC, NPF e.t.c. The Media were also very visible, from AIT, NTA, Silverbird and a number of print media.

One thing I've learnt about the NPF in this Lagos: If you love your life dearly, NEVER argue with an armed policeman. Trying to "prove" or "declare" your "innocence" or "rights" with a policeman carrying a gun, is equal to endangering your life.

The situation is just abysmal.

We're talking Geography here, not geopolitics.  Nigeria, like any other place on earth, has always existed long before any living thing appeared on the surface of the earth.

Also, history confirms to us that Calabar (which is in Cross Rivers state) is the only part of Nigeria that has had the oldest contact with the Europeans, so this report could have some level of credibility in it afterall.

While this may seem a viable option, it's not the best way. An English Language teacher once said that, in movies, actors and actresses have what we call "language immunity" (or sum'n like that). . . that is, they are free to express themselves whichever way they prefer, and as such, not all the grammatical expressions you hear in the movies are correct. In as much as they pass their message across to the audience, all is well.

This is truly amazing.  But how come we haven't heard anything about the book since this article was written (2005)?

Anything worth doing at all, is worth doing well. No one is saying "everything" is the responsibility of the government, but the moment the government decides to actively partake in establishing anything at all, then they should equally be ready to take FULL responsibility. In this case, public education is the responsibility of the government (public sector), and that cannot be changed. If we were discussing how things ought to be generally, only then would you have a point.

Now I fully understand what Deolu meant when he wrote the following article some months back: I wept.
