budaatum: So, you fasted and prayed? Did you not lose weight? That, after all, is all you'd get from the fasting. And the prayer is just to concentrate your mind.
Please op, what did you weigh before the fasting, and what do you weigh now? Are you sure you weren't fasting and filling yourself with junk afterwards? If you did, you are bound to be disappointed!
I think you just heard the message wrong. Are you mocking him or telling him what to do? |

Elsah: Sometimes i wonder if there is really anything in the after life, but even if there is nothing there and i ended up living wisely and believing that there is, i have nothing to lose than, dieing and realizing there is actually God after denying him. This is Pascal's Wager. Look it up. This logic is easy to debunk. In any case I believe in an afterlife. |

Elsah: I used to be like you. The course i studied in school made me question the existence of God, but after running away from church and living by my own rules, i made costly mistakes that made me realize the essence of religion/spirituality. At the end of the day, all the rules we are supposed to live by is supposed help us to live a wiser life. It's all for our own physical and mental benefit! I'm a lazy Christian but i think it pays to just think good, do good and follow God. Pray, what course did you study? Rules are man made. That's why they differ from culture to culture. |

Ranchhoddas and Wetdick, should we believe every law in the economics book? it seems they are outdated in the modern world. Evolution is the way of all things. Naturally, the old laws will become irrelevant over time and give way to the new with only the relevant parts remaining. I don't read books on economics. Boring stuff. |

Elsah: Lol...No, It's not at odds. I meant no 'human being' cares about us. Only God does. And i meant we are all alone in our 'heads', fighting battles we can't discuss. And our only permanent companion is the holyspirit who is sometimes difficult to hear. So, minus the spiritual in our lives, man is kinda screwed and all alone here on earth. Wife, husband, family, friends, they can leave you when you least expect it. Just be prepared! Happy survival on earth! Even your mum? |

thebosstrevor: come to think of it, that is true ooh. nice one. most consumer products started like that, Nobody demanded for them but they Manufactured the product, supplied the market and created demand. i read something similar in a book by Edward Bernays called Propaganda and how he made women in the US became consumers of cigarettes.
it seems you can create demand when you have your supply in the market.
Wetdick, can you give me an example of how apple created demand for iPhones? Humans are vain and I believe companies like Apple take advantage of human vanity. They insist on exclusivity, high price and aggressive marketing to make people think they need something which is in reality not more useful than cheaper alternatives. The Apple model is by my reckoning not dissimilar to the De Beers strategy of making diamonds (which is actually not useful for anything) very expensive by monopolizing supply, advertising aggressively and jacking up the price regularly in a bid to make it seem like a must have. It's all about controlling perception. See this article https://www.truefacet.com/guide/makes-diamonds-valuable/ |

The Wetdick dude is right. It's a chicken and egg scenario. Demand can create supply supply and vice-versa depending on the situation and product.
The issue here is prostitution and like all other forms of unnecessary recreation (drugs, gambling, pornography etc.), it is supply that creates demand. Nobody would seek out prostitutes if they were not available. Same thing for cocaine, pornography, or bet9ja. We were doing just fine before any of these things reached our shores. By way of example one just has to take a look at the codeine and tramadol craze in Nigeria today, the only reason people demand them is that they are available. If the government finds a way of preventing them from getting into the hands of people without prescription, the demand for the recreational use of the product will stop immediately. People who want to get high will seek other ways (alcohol, nicotine, etc). Ditto for prostitution, if all the prostitutes retire today, the demand for their services will stop. People who want to have sex will seek other ways (dating, marriage etc).
There is no demand for blue meth (Breaking Bad) in Nigeria today because it is not available. Import a few crystals and let party goers have a taste and see if we would not have a meth epidemic in Nigeria.
There is a reason the Western authorities go after pimps and drug dealers more than they go after prostitutes/patrons and drug users respectively. Cut off the supply and the demand stops. Demand creates supply for essential things (food, clothing, water etc). The operative word is "essential". This does not apply to gourmet food, luxury clothes or Evian water. The reverse is the case here.
PS: I believe that prostitutes, especially in Nigeria are victims of the society they have found themselves in. Most of them are not into it by choice so my post should not be viewed as finger-pointing or anything of the sort. |

Christianity Etc › Re: 10 Questions For The Irreligious by Ranchhoddas: 4:44pm On Jan 21, 2019 |
Seeker99: I’ve been following this forum for quite some time now and have noticed there’s a great many atheists/agnostics arguing against the validity of religious beliefs. As someone who takes an interest in this ongoing debate, I have put forth 10 questions for the irreligious here so that I can get a better understanding of their position and would appreciate if a few of you will take the time to answer some of the question below: Hmmm... #1 Do you believe the universe is eternal? I believe the Universe is the product of an Eternal mind. #2 Do we have freewill or is everything determined? There are an infinite number of possibilities. We have freewill. #3 Is our existence the product of chance? Randomness is an illusion. #4 Would you say morality is objective or relative? Relative. Guilt is mostly learnt. #5 What type of universe would you expect if there was no God? Define God? #6 What’s your take on the fine-tuning argument for the existence of God? Apologetics. #7 What’s you take on miracles? Do you believe everyone that has ever claimed to have witnessed a miracle was lying or was mistaken/hallucinating? Miracles are real. The laws of physics and biology bend under the right circumstances. #8 What’s your thoughts on near death experiences and the afterlife? Real phenomena. Death is not the end. #9 Do you think we have souls? Depends on your definition. If you mean our essence, a part that survives the destruction of the mortal body: Then Yes. #10 Is religion beneficial to society? Of course. The "hoi polloi" must be kept in check lest they run wild. |
