Hello Nairalanders, Please I need your views on this one. I really want to know if it is an old-fashion act to propose to a lady with a ring. Some few friends I spoke with told me that it was old-fashioned. |
'I regret being a Nigerian, I too will tear and burn my Nigerian passport when I finally become an Iraqi' (Rapmoney at the Nigerian Embassy in Iraq) Jokes apart, it's really painful. Ken Saro Wiwa made a similar statement in 1993. Nigeria is a place where touts are celebrated. A professor is regarded as nothing but General Gbamu Gbamu, General Tom Po.....(I did not complete it) are all given unnecessary respect. Shame! |
Being poor should not only be seen from the financial perspective, it still has to do with the personal attitude or mentality of people. There are certain traits that are common with mentally Poor Nigerians. 1. They help other people to calculate their income, salary or wealth. Such people know how much Lionel Messi, Mikel Obi, Christiano Ronaldo, etc earn weekly. They know how much Ayiri Emami has in his bank accounts and how much Tom Polo worths. 2. They use religion as a pacifier...truly, religion is the opium of the people(apology to Karl Marx). They see their condition as pre-destined. Their poor condition has been approved by God! Imagine that! They hide under religion, to them, it is a sin to question the enermous and mysterious wealth that surrounds their pastors, bishops, imams, alfas, etc because their religious doctrines imposed on them by the Westerners and Arabs do not condone that. They make statements like 'wealth is vanity, our reward is in heaven' and 'Jesus said that it is easier for a carmel to pass through the eye of the needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God'. 3. They are easily shocked when someone spends, say 15k on fish and meat to prepare food for their family. This I call ' beer-dey-bitter-because-money-no-dey syndrome. Sociologists believe that people's attitude most times is determined by their economic condition. When a mentally poor man cannot afford a nice thing, it becomes bad instantly! 4. They like to label young successful people as money ritualists and drug peddlers quickly without wanting to know how these people came up. Any young successful man that drives by on a 'Discussion Continues' is a money ritualist! 5. They argue alot; most times, about unnecessary and irrelevant issues. How can you be arguing and breaking your head on an issue such as Femi Otedola and Tom Polo, who has more money? Or if you pick up 50 million on the road, what would be the best thing to buy? Common man! There is more to life than that. You need to wake up and face reality. Nairalanders add yours... |

spenca: What perspective are you coming from egoistic or altruism ? Your logical premises are good though , and your conclusions are not wrong eitherYou cannot tell the content of a book from the cover. The cover might be dull or colourless but the content could be interesting. What I am saying in essence is that people's ability should be put to test and not just the 'paper' alone. I am speaking for intelligent young men and women who I meet everyday; some are even close friends and relatives of mine. |
It is very annoying to know that graduates who came out with 2nd class(lower division) are no longer allowed to apply for most jobs in Nigeria. Name them, banks, multi-nationals, institutions, etc. Sincerely speaking, some of these (not all) 2.2 products are very intelligent and creative but nobody wants to give them the chance to show their worth...some of these peeps did not come out with such grade because they are unintelligent or a never-do-well. I mean, there are many factors that can make one graduate with a 2.2. if graduates with 2.2 are no longer employable, then the grade should be eliminated from the university system, so we know we only have 1st class and 2.1 as grades. What happened to 'Right to Work' as an economic right in our constitution? Employers in Nigeria are systematically denying 2.2 graduates their right to be gainfully employed. It is not logical and coherent to state that a 2.1 graduate would do better than a 2.2 graduate if both are placed under same circumstance. Employers should look at what these peeps can offer and not just grades because there are peeps who bought scores and grades in school, yet are unproductive. It pains me to know that so many persons are blind to this problem or rather, they are pretending to be. In some few years time, 2.2 as a university grade will become extinct like the Dinosaurs. |

Una mates dey hussle, dey strategize how dem go take roof their houses before December, una dey here dey defend one confused, uncultured, rude, disrespectful, unenviable, agbero woman called 'Forced Lady' and a professor who unnecessarily criticized a fellow professor for speaking the truth about his country! |
The Holy Bible says 'Iron sharpneth iron'. A man is expected to sharpen his fellow man. We can do that in various ways. Lets inspire one another with our best financial quotes. You might just ginger up someone's spirit to achieve greater heights! *Wealth is spending less than what you earn and doing it continually for a long period of time* Drop yours and inspire the House! |
Various communities across Africa and Asia have things like this. What about the the sacred pythons of Uli, Ihiala LGA, Anambra State? |
Some guys are just so dumb. Why should I start spending money unnecessarily on a girl because there is sex in the relationship which she thinks is a favour from her to me? I wake up everyday to see many naija girls who do nothin for a living...they depend on men for everything; airtime, meals, Brazilian and Indian hairs, clothes, phones, fixing of nails and eyes-lashes, their parents' personal prblems, their siblings' school fees and bills...crazy! I'd rather spend money on my wife than spend it on somebody else's wife. Nansense!!! |
Most Nigerians have passive nature towards the plight we are facing in this country. We like to live in 'fool's paradise'. If Nigerians were actually the happiest people on earth, why do we see such high level of unemployment among the youths, corruption, crime, etc? Are we really happy? Instead waking up to the reality that things are not really right, we try to fake happiness. Why not go to Ilorin and ask Olaniyi or go to Warri and ask Oghenekaro that have not eaten since yesterday if they are truly happy? Some nairaland girls just come here to say trash because a stupid dude somewhere bought them Brazilian hair. Nansense!!! |
190: but am still friends with my ex alutacontinua and we still nyashing constantlyYour heart brings forth evil!!! |
U wan ban smoking? Why FG no ban corruption and unemployment? if dem ban smoking, I swear 20 million unemployed youths go flood the streets like Afghanistan flies, causing havoc to the fullest!!! Biko, Audu give me one Benson & Hedges make I take hold ma sef! |
The irony is that you end up getting the opposite of the result that is intended. It reduces your status as a man and a girl loses her respect for you when she discovers that you are the policing and desparate type. |
Often times, I see so many guys trying to police a lady in relationships. Such young men see it as a duty to do this. The bitter truth is that it would have harmful effects on your relationship. The constant need to know where she is, what she is doing and with whom she is doing it with can push a relationship to a sour end. It is time to re-evaluate your fears, and also a time to worry less about what could happen and concentrate on what is happening. We are entitled to our diverse opinions though, but I think a man needs to be sensible in a relationship and need not to be seen as too desparate in a relationship. My take... |
The Holy Book (Bible) says 'He who has ears, let him hear'. Below are 5 sensible things I believe every young man is expected to know: No. 1: You must cultivate the habit of saving no matter the amount your salary/wage is. If you do this constantly, you would be amazed how much you would have saved in three years. You must start from somewhere! While doing this, you need to be focused...focus on your dream business or project. Rome was not built in a day. KNOW THIS! No. 2: Never date a girl who is looking for who to cling to in order to get her numerous problems solved. Such girls are known as 'Kparo Kparo'. They are only out to get what they want and leave your life in a huge mess! In fact, if you are still a struggling young man, don't get involve with a girl who is wild and from an extremely poor home where the parents cannot afford the basic things in life for their children. In the end, you will surely be sorry for yourself. KNOW THIS! No. 3: Do not bring a child into this world except you have enough to take care of that child, lest you expose him/her to harsh social/economical conditions which are detrimental. Your plans in life could be terminated because you would have to carter for mother and child with your meager resources. I know of a young man who impregnated a girl 'mistakenly' and he had no job. As I am typing this, they have four kids and they can barely feed well. Any little money that enters his pocket goes to the upkeep of the 'wife' and children. My sympathy! KNOW THIS! No. 4: Never you get yourself seriously involved with a woman who has no vision for her life. Some girls are not useful in any way except for intimacy. They are neither educated, nor in school and are not learning any trade or into any business venture. They depend on you for everything they need in life, ranging from airtime to undies. Any lady that is not schooling or learning a trade or into any skills-acquisition venture...my brother, don't go close. She is a typical liability! KNOW THIS! No. 5: Stop pretending to be buoyant when you know you are not. You are still hussling and you have so many projects to actualize, so why do you go about buying drinks for every Chukwuemeka, Aliyu, Folashade and Rukevwe you see in a bar? You want to go to the club and pop champagne, order for Hennesy and Moet and your monthly income is 18,000. Yes, you want to impress people...you will surely have your reward...EXTREME POVERTY! cut your coat according to your cloth. Instead of frequently going to places that drain your little income, you should frequently go to places that can add to your income. It could be places that give you life-changing ideas. Don't envy and copy Ekene because he wears a shirt that costs 45k and a pair of shoes that cost 95k. Ekene might be receiving millions as profits on monthly basis from his business ventures. If you do, one thing is sure and you will surely have your little reward...EXTREME POVERTY! KNOW THIS! Young men, be wise and stay blessed. Contributions are welcomed. Rapmoney has spoken! |
OsunOriginal: When we try to educate those villagers from SE on how to live and govern, instead of them to listen, they start thinking with their mouth.Your post clearly shows that you are still a kid living in an adult's body. But seriously speaking, if you are one, I advise you leave this site! |
If u look well, u go see am say na the ones wey dor clock 32 and 35 dey cry pass! Dat na tears of joy...dem dor narrowly miss everlasting spinsterhood. |
I now know the reason why we love mediocrity in Nigeria. That's why the Nigerian music is full of craps. See people just dey defend useless threads on NL...uncreativity of the highest order. It's a pity. what concerns me with Mercy Aigbe's jeans? Nansense! |
When I joined NL some years back, there were always lots of educative threads on the frontpage from the different sections, but today what we see often are threads about Tonto Dike's latest outfit, pictures of Genevieve's peruvian hair, 10 best ways to spend your money on a girl, pictures of Jim Iyke eating Amala and Ewedu, etc. Everyday, I see very educative, truthful and insightful threads that don't make it to the frontpage! Is it that our youths hate knowledge and educative stuffs or lack creativity? Or the mods have lost focus? |
Wetin concern us? Abeg, I dey go drink beer for Oneki compound. |
