Family › When You Are Grown And Still Living With Your Parents by Rapmoney(op): 3:49pm On Dec 30, 2012 |
I just thought I should share this with fellow Nairalanders. I left my parents' house about a year ago that was 2 years after my Nysc. The 2 years I spent at home was something else. You are faced with lack of privacy, you can't bring visitors home, you are scared to become deeply close to a lady because you are afraid she might look down on you when she discovers that you still live with your Parents, the folks in your area don't respect you, the children in the neighborhood no longer greet you because they feel your face has 'lingered' too long in the neighborhood, you take cover when certain family people visit because you don't want them to know you still live with mum and dad...and you are grown!
On December 24th, a friend complained to me that his fiancee has vowed never to visit him until he leaves his parents' house. I visited my parents this xmas and discovered that some of my pals in the neighborhood still live with their parents. Most of them are nearly 30! The simple respect I get from people in my area now confirms the fact that it is a painful thing when you are grown and still live with your parents. I know it has not been easy for some but it is well.
Nairalanders, share your experience... |

Education › Of What Use Is A University Degree In Our Society Today? by Rapmoney(op): 4:02am On Dec 28, 2012 |
Yesterday, I came across this thread created by one dude who felt or should I say 'convinced' that he was being respected unnecessarily by members of his community because he happens to be a graduate. I laughed. Funny enough, the poor guy graduated 2 months ago! It seems most prospective graduates and the newly graduated are yet to come to terms with reality, or should I say they hate reality? Some still think that they are 'very special people' in the Nigerian environment. WRONG!!!
The bitter truth is that nobody gives a damn about your certificate because there are so many graduates out there. Nigeria is a place where money supercedes the highest degree. Who is a professor to speak when people like General Gbamu-Gbamu, General Migwor, General To(m) Po(lo) , General This and General That have not spoken? Even rich illiterate business people employ graduates as Personal Assistants and pay them 20k bullshi(t) every month!
Apart from having a degree, the present situation demands that parents should make their kids undergo training in a particular trade for 2 yrs before going to the university, especially, those who leave secondary school at the annoying age of 14! They can use such knowledge to create wealth for themselves while in higher institution and become independent before 22!
About 95% of final yr students in our tertiary institutions don't even know what they want to do when they leave school. Pity(ma' face down) |

Culture › Why Do Nigerians Count Their Money At ATM? by Rapmoney(op): 11:25am On Dec 17, 2012 |
I have observed that Nigerians, including the highly educated, count their money in front of the ATM whenever they go to withdraw. Is it possible for the ATM to issue a customer an amount that is below what they requested? I believe this act or practice comes from the fact that we no longer trust one another talk more of our institutions. Corruption and fraud have been institutionalized in our everyday life. People have this lack of trust in the banks that the marchines might short-pay them even when it is clear that the marchines are programmed!!! |

Negro_Ntns: Fashola utter some disgusting and reprehensible statements some time.
He carries his omoluabi too far out to the edge of foolishness.
We need a more Yoruba centric governor. We dont want a governor that sponsors ceremony for Ojukwu burial or memorial: dont want a governor that opens public square for BZM to declare and promote and fly Biafran flag on a land they are hostile to: dont want a governor that honors a man who is. unrepentant and unremorseful about dishonoring Awolowo.
Achebe declined a national honor from FG and has published a book dismissing efforts by Nigeria to reunite the warring sides, so what scholarship is Fashola projecting when he blames and condemns FG for Achebes irresponsibility? This man is nursing Presidency and is throwing us under the bus to woo sentiments in East.
