When the political leadership of a country plays down the seriousness of even terrorist acts-like those of Fulani herdsmen, security agents waver on whether or not to deal with the situation decisively or obey the orders of their political leaders. Consequently, they become victims of such acts of criminality. This govt has muddled up things for our security forces. |
And the same Gaddafi is preventing PMB from deploying troops to route out the killers from the country. I blame the victims for not taking their fate in their hands. ... Omar Al-Bashir and his supporter of APC militias are here with us through PMB and his hordes of Fulani killers. |
It is now clear that the Fulanis have used all the means at their disposal to close our dear Hon Innocent Audu Ogbeh' sharp mind from recognising the danger that has encircled nearly the entire country because of open grazing of cattle. Otherwise how could one explain this one-track-mind on a problem of this magnitude? This is most unfortunate! The worst part is that both the Fulanis themselves and the Federal ministry of Agriculture under Hon Audu Ogbeh have refused to engage experts in the field of animal production to advice them on how to maximise production without roaming about with the animals. Recently, an expert in animal production in one of the agricultural research institutes in Zaria laid to rest the unfounded claim by the Fulanis that their species of cattle cannot survive in ranches. He said the same grass that these species roam here and there to eat can be fed to them within fenced premises. Neither the Fulanis nor officials of the ministry of agriculture argued with him. ... Fulanis know that putting cattle in ranches could harm their quest for expansion, that's why they are not ready to take advice from anyone. |
BENUE PEOPLE TELL BUHARI TO EMBRACE STATE'S RANCHING LAW * Excerpts of Speeches made by Benue Stakeholders during their meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in Makurdi, March 12, 2018. TOR TIV, His Royal Majesty, Professor James Ayatse "Mr. President I want to add an appeal as a Father. The anti open grazing law, I want to appeal to Mr. President that if there is something that is dear to the heart of Benue people it is that law. I say it because I was here through the process and the agitation and the House of Assembly had to be occupied for days for them to pass that law. So it is really the peoples law and I want to passionately appeal to do everything possible ro support the implementation of that law. It is not the Governor's law. Wanataregh PAUL UNONGO "Your Excellency, the land mass of your country is not increasing, the population is. If you do not effectively put an end to the phenomena of herdsmen militia and you take what is happening in North East in Borno, Yobe and you know what is happening you will discover you are having a terrible country very far from your dream. Mr. President the people of Benue under the leadership of Governor Ortom, as my brother who spoke I was very pleased some of the things I was going to say I am cutting them off. The young man who spoke there the only thing I want to stress is that your Governor whatever he is portrayed to you is not your enemy. He is under threat as a very competent, very capable and very totally loyal person to you, please help him. The law was not made to be anti Fulani. I am a product of a Fulani man from Kano and a Tiv man from Kwande and I am the leader of Tiv people. Mr. President your son Ortom is misunderstood by some of your security agents particularly the leader of the police. He is sincere under objective threat and you will discover that if you do not support him and your security dont support him he could well be hurt. Don't allow that to happen on your watch." Retired General Atom Kpera "Mr President, I know how swiftly you acted when it was reported to you that there was a problem of cattle rustlers in Zanfara State. You adorned yourself in a smart military uniform, a civil general, in fact a field marshal and you went there and swiftly took action and I believe that you would have done the same when you came to know that Benue State was under threat. Your citizens here were being wiped off and I remember that you swiftly directed the Inspector General of Police to relocate to Benue and keep you well informed of everything that was going on there. Your Excellency, the IG did not do what you sent him. He stayed for less than twenty four hours in Benue State and relocated to Nasarawa and gave you the impression and he said it loudly several times that what he came and saw was a mere communal clash. I think he must have swallowed his words when a few days after that his own police men were being killed by the same killers that were killing your own innocent citizens of Benue State. I will like to add Your Excellency, that I personally would not like to have been advised by that person but you know better. I read in the papers a few days ago that you have other sources of intelligence that come to you not known by other people. I believe in you, therefore I will like you to please when you leave here have a second thought on what your IG reported to you and on which you swiftly acted setting up the exercise Ayem A Kpatuma. Our expectation your Excellency was that when you sent this unit of additional force was to come and relief us of our very much troubled life, to see whether they can pursue the killers. The IG did not say that there were no killers because that was every where, he knew it but he failed to act according to the constitution which gives him powers. Your Excellency take a second look at that." Rt. Hon John Dyegh "I am representing the eleven members of the green chambers and let me straight away say the Benue people are peace loving. As I am stand here, I am the one standing in the place of the seat that was once given to a Borno man whose son is here with us. That is to prove a point that the Benue people and indeed the Tiv people are peace loving. Let me as a legislator talk about the rule of law. We know the President respects laws. He is the chief fighter of corruption in Nigeria. I want to say that some years ago when Zamfara made a law prohibiting the sale of alcohol, prostitution and all that in that state, the President then General Obasanjo was under pressure to stop that law from being implemented and he said publicly no; anybody that is against this law can go to court and that is civil. Today after the killings of over eight hundred and seventy persons in Agatu and over sixteen villages were ransacked and people living outside their homes till today the Benue People and all the legislators, the stakeholders came together and say no this is too much we cant take this any longer and let have an arrangement where the herdsmen can live without killing us and we can still accommodate them and that is how the idea of ranching came about. I want to put records straight so that people will know that we didn't just sit down and said look we are going to bring a law to bring ranching to this state. It came about as a result of our pains particularly pains from Agatu and that is how and why the stakeholders of Benue State came together and say let us have this law. Having said that, it is disgusting that a chief law enforcer, it is unfortunate that he is not here, the IGP will stand up and say the law is unenforceable. That the killings in Benue are a result of this law. It is unfortunate. It is not good, I mean that is making us not feel like Nigerians. Mr. President, with that statement and with the quietness of the Presidency, we are threatened. I feel threatened, we don't feel we are Nigerians. We need your protection Mr. President. Having said that, just to emphasize that the chief law enforce should not dabble into politics. He should confine himself to enforcing the law. It is not in his place, it is not in his place, it is not in his place. I say with emphasis it not in his place to make political statements and to make statements that look to us that he is backing a section and particularly he is backing Fulani herdsmen. It is not correct. Mr. President we call on you to protect us." Senator George Akume "Your Excellency, you could recall that Senator David Mark was Senate President while Suswam was the Chief Security of the State, yet the Tiv people voted for you in 2015. We have no federal project in Benue State, Ortom does not make law, Benue People made the law, JS Tarka fought for the unity of our country Nigeria, Mr. President the Tiv people are not happy about your reaction towards the killing of Tiv farmers by Fulani herdsman.” Governor Samuel Ortom "Although concerted attacks on communities in the State commenced in 2011, between 2013-2017, Forty-Seven attacks were recorded and over 1,878 men, women and children were slaughtered in cold blood across 14 Local Government Areas of the State. Another 750 were seriously wounded while 200 were missing. Over 99,427 households were affected. We have lost an average of 47% of Internally Generated Revenues due to attacks by armed herdsmen in the State. This underscores the problem between herdsmen and farmers. It was clear to us that increased population, shrinking arable land, global warming and desertification as well as the need to diversify the economy through farming, all make open grazing unattractive. Through consultations and research, we discovered that the global best practice for animal husbandry is Ranching. Top countries in the global cattle business such as India, Brazil, USA, South Africa; Kenya and Zimbabwe, are known to practice ranching. It takes proper care of Livestock to ensure quality meat and dairy products and minimizes cattle rustling. Your Excellency, this is the logic behind our popular Law, “Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law, 2017”. I urge anyone who has a superior method other than Ranching to bring it to the table. The Law duly passed by the Benue State House of Assembly reflects the wishes of the Benue people. On 30th May, 2017, the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore in a ‘World Press Conference’ held in Abuja, opposed the Ranching Law. They called on Fulani herders in all of West Africa to come into Benue to help them reclaim their land. In the same vein, Miyetti Allah Cattle Herders Association in their Press Conference declared that more blood will flow in Benue if the Ranching Law is not rescinded. Your Excellency, as a President that supports the Rule of Law, you will most certainly be offended by these Hate Speeches that may have crossed the red line. Your Excellency, how can a group claim responsibility for the killings that happened and are going about scot free? How can a group make public these inciting and criminal declarations in an organized society and are not arrested by the Police? Your Excellency, kindly order the immediate arrest and prosecution of the leadership of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore and Miyetti Cattle Breeders Association for carrying out their threats to attack Benue on account of the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law, 2017. Recent Security Reports before Your Excellency, indicate that the Islamic State in West Africa (ISWA) are accomplices in the massacres in Benue State. If these Reports on Benue and other parts of the country are true, they have enormous implications for national security. There may be a need to strengthen the enforcement of the ECOWAS Protocol by directing the Nigeria Immigration Service to do the needful." |
... Fake Middle Belt group! The operation is aimed at helping the fulanis to consolidate their positions in the areas they have occupied and to also bring more herdsmen to the area. Benue is presently experiencing massive influx of herders and their cattle into the state. Just last Monsay, armed herdsmen sacked over 5000 people from an island very close to Makurdi. I suspect the writers of this propaganda were paid by killers of Middle Belt people and their sponsors to write these lies. |
DrRasheed:The leader of Tiv people in Nasarawa state gave the details. He can easily be reached. You can read it here also: http://sunnewsonline.com/nasarawa-south-lost-over-50-people-83-villages-to-herdsmen-attacks-in-one-month-tida/ |
-50 persons of Tiv origin killed in one month; many more remain missing; -83 Tiv villages burnt; -Military and police personnel deployed to the state remain in Lafia and other major towns; they have not been to the villages where the hunting and killing of Tiv is still taking place; -Fulanis now occupying all villages deserted by Tiv in Nasarawa south: Awe, Obi, Keana and Doma LGAs. According to the President of Tiv development association (TIDA) in the state: "Nasarawa South lost over 50 people, 83 villages to herdsmen attacks in one month – TIDA The Sun News (Linus Oota, Lafia) No fewer than 50 persons lost their lives in the bloody herdsmen attacks on some communities in Nasarawa south senatorial zone of the state which comprises Keana, Obi, Awe, Doma and Lafia local government areas in the month of January 2018. Also, about 83 villages were completely burnt down to arches, property, farmlands and economic trees worth billions of naira were lost during the period under review. President, Tiv Development Association (TIDA), a socio-cultural organization for the Tiv indigenes in Nasarawa state Mr Boniface Ifer made this known weekend while speaking to our correspondent in Lafia on the security situation in the southern senatorial zone of the state, adding that all the affected persons and villages are of the Tiv extractions. According to him “the numbers of causalities are not exact because, we still have cases of missing persons whom we assumed that they are dead but because of security reasons, we cannot organise a search to recover their dead bodies “I want to clear the air where some people are denying the fact that there is no crisis in Nasarawa state and that the people in IDPs camp are all from Benue state, I want to debunk that statement, let me tell you that over 50 Tiv sons and Daughters in Nasarawa state are already dead as a result of this herdsmen attacks, why are they claiming that my people are not affected” he said He also disclose that the military men and police units deployed to Nasarawa state on the order of President Muhammadu Buhari have arrived the state but refuse to move to the affected areas where people are being killed on the daily basis and houses burnt down “we don’t know why the military refuse to move to the affected areas, we want the whole world to know that the military deployed to Nasarawa state have being stationed in one place in Lafia” On the genesis of the crisis, the leader of the Tiv community in the state use the occasion to correct the erroneous impression in some quarters that, the on-going crisis is as result of the anti-open grazing law that is been enacted by the Benue state government. “I want to say without fear or favour that this on-going crisis pre-dates the anti-grazing law, it will be recalled that on the 1st July 2001 the Tiv people of Nasarawa state were attacked by the same suspected herdsmen who brutally killed thousands of the Tiv people and equally looted and destroyed their properties worth billions of naira “Again on 18th June 2011, the Tiv people of Keana and Doma LGAs were attacks once again by the herdsmen killing so many people including a police officer in Keana police division ASP Awajir, and two Tiv community leaders Zaki Kiri Asoho and Zaki Iorwaney Lyebera” he said He wondered why the January 2018 coordinated and unprovoked attacks is targeted only at the Tiv people in Nasarawa state in the name of anti-open grazing law in Benue state “The Tiv people in Nasarawa state are not part and parcel of law making process in Benue state and what affects Benue must not affect us in Nasarawa state” He said that between 1st and 8th January this year, 15 Tiv people were murdered in their cold blood in Awe local government area of the state, while six Tiv people were equally slaughtered in Obi LGA. In Keana LGA, about 22 Tiv people were killed by the herdsmen between 7th to 29th January 2018, while in Doma LGA, about 7 Tiv people lost their lives to herdsmen attacks. The TIDA president who gave our correspondent the names and figured of those murdered and villages burnt in tears, said over 83 villages of the Tiv people in the southern zones of the state were completely burnt down by the herdsmen and the entire Tiv settlements areas in the zone completely displaced. Mr Ifer who commended the efforts of the state governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura in trying to bring the situation under control, disclose that the situation is slipping out of his hands hence the herdsmen are head-bent on executing their original plan of eliminating the entire Tiv race “The herdsmen have refused to hid or yield to the warnings of Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura to stop the killings and have persisted with this massacre, and as I talk to you now, they have succeeded in taking over the entire Tiv settlement areas in Nasarawa state” he said.". http://sunnewsonline.com/nasarawa-south-lost-over-50-people-83-villages-to-herdsmen-attacks-in-one-month-tida/ |

"THE CONTINUOUS HUNTING AND KILLING OF INDIGENOUS TIV PEOPLE OF NASARAWA STATE AND THE SAFE HAVEN OF THE TERRORISTS DISCOVERED IN WAMBA LGA February 3rd 2018 By Mohammed Otuwose When people lost loved ones, naturally, they feel hurt. More so when precious lives are snuffed out for no just cause by dagger-wielding and trigger-happy terrorists. The desire for vengeance, at this point, is often rife amongst folks so offended. However, one evil, no matter how gruesome, doesn't justify another. When killer-herdsmen butchered people in parts of Tiv-land, men and women of goodwill across the world cringed with trepidation. The vile act was universally condemned. Rightly so. Same way the killing and burning of Fulani travellers in Gboko (Tiv-land) was condemned by all and sundry who still uphold justice and the sanctity of human life. It's wrong and absolutely in bad faith to look at all itinerant Fulani and Tiv people with disdain and to hurt them for nothing. Most Tivs are so genuine and mundane that they just want to live their simple rustic lives with little or no knowledge of why there's so much hatred, enmity, crisis, killing and death in society. There are still ongoing killings of local and indigenous Tiv people in the rural and farming forests in Awe, Keana LGAs with the spread and escalation to ATABULA community and Idevi community all in Jenkwe Development Area of Obi LGA. That, four days ago,15 tivs were killed and only yesterday another 7 killed, and 11 injured. It is certain Fulani-herdsmen with the covert support of the Nasarawa State Government but usually rush to the scene and in front of the TV camera and media to mislead the world. The unfortunate thing is that the print media are not reporting this to the public and investigating journalism is lacking by mainstream media due to inaccessibility and fear of their lives. The indigenous Tiv people of Nasarawa State killed by the Fulani herdsmen terrorists in Nasarawa State are in thousands and unaccounted for especially in inaccessible farming forest and this is still ongoing with the security agencies helpless and can't access these places. Our investigation also revealed other ethnic groups living with Tiv people in these places are fearing for their lives with most often times Fulani herdsmen searching for tivs from Household to household, so fear of unknown grip them too and are handicap to report to the government which they believed are the one supporting the Fulani herdsmen terrorists. Our undercover reporter shockingly traced and discovered training and safe haven camps in the forest of Wamba LGA of Nasarawa State. These safe haven camps are used by the herdsmen terrorists and foreign mercenaries brought to launch attacks in Southern Kaduna, Plateau, Nasarawa, Taraba, and Benue States. After which they withdraw and return to safe haven for rest and to escape being caught. The reporter also confirmed knowledge of the existence of the save haven for the terrorists among few locals in the forest but claimed the reported this to their chief (Oririndere). We are calling on the Federal Government to investigate and conduct security surveillance in these LGAs(Awe, Keana, Obi, Doma, Nasarawa and Wamba) and deploy military to clear the terrorists in the places stated." |
Rickyzagy:You are callous! |
Scandalous! No professionalism in our security forces again as each agency jostles to outdo one another in sycophancy. Is the PPRO a member of an opposing political party that thinks Ortom is "a drowning man"? Or was he speaking for Miyetti Alah, a terrorist organisation that is being pampered by the Federal govt of Buhari? He has only succeeded in exposing his infantile grasp of police duties. |
WHO CAN SAVE THE TIV PEOPLE OF NASARAWA STATE FROM THE ONGOING SYSTEMATIC ETHNIC CLEANSING? By Comrade Peter Ahemba, I, comrade Peter Ahemba, President Tiv Youth Organization Nasarawa State, once again use this medium to bring to fore, the continued attacks and destruction of lives and property of our people by marauding herdsmen. Report received from Keana, Awe and Obi Local Government Areas of the state as at 10th January, 2018 when the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris met with stakeholders in Lafia for a joint security meeting convened by the state government has it that 23 Tiv people had been killed by the wicked men. At present, the entire Tiv population from Awe, Keana and Doma has been forced out of their ancestral homes by the "criminals" who embark have continued their serial killings and destruction of lives and property including innocent children and women. This systematic act of terrorism and ethnic cleansing has continued unabated. Most recently, 30th January 2018 to be precise the Tiv community in Kadarko town were attacked midnight and 12 persons were murdered in cold blood by the "criminals" who appeared to have immunity on their dastardly act. Similarly, the entire population of our people in Keana, Giza and Kadarko areas have been forced out of their homes while the invaders continue to raze down homes and food crops on daily basis without hindrance despite the seeming presence of security operatives and assurances of our state government to protect our people. As I voice out through this medium, the terrorists have besieged the entire South (Ekye) which has a very high concentration of population of our people and have equally chased out the entire Tiv people while reducing their homes and other property to ashes. For now, only a few Tiv villages in Obi Local Government are still being seen with the people living in perpetual fear of eminent attacks. By this unfortunate development, the Tiv people have been thrown into a serious state of confusion and hopelessness. While I appreciate the efforts of the state government under Governor Tanko Al-Makura, Traditional Rulers and other stakeholders for their efforts towards restoring peace in the state I however observe that more efforts need to be made to overcome the present situation. It is against this backdrop that I make this distress appeal to the state and federal government to urgently intervene to save the Tiv people of Nasarawa state from this orchestrated attacks by the bloodthirsty herdsmen. I call on the entire Tiv youth of Nasarawa state to remain calm and avoid any represial attacks as two wrongs cannot make a right. Let us leave vengeance to God." Signed: Comrade Peter Ahemba (President Tiv Youth Organization Nasarawa State). |
... Obviously to not only condole Fulanis in the area who mockingly claimed they lost "73" cows to "Tiv militia" but also thank Gov A-Makura for hosting his kinsmen who are cleansing Tiv people of Nasarawa and using the state as camp for Fulani militias who are visiting mayhem on Benue communities. |
He is looking for the picture of Othman Danfodio...whom he mentioned as one of the founding fathers of Nigeria in his inaugural speech. |
Yes, he is not thinking about election, he is thinking about CATTLE COLONIES. Buhari fears to fail his Fulani kinsmen than he fears to fail Nigeria as a country. |
Anarchy looming. |
tdayof:The CJTF fighting BH are backed by soldiers; some of them even carry ordinary machetes. The youths in Benue are on their own and are facing a group that is never confronted by security forces and is well-armed with all sorts of weapons, including RPGs. So Benue youths need even more than Ak47s. My annoyance is that they weren't careful enough. They know that the police and the military have been taking side with the herdsmen and so they needed to be watching both their fronts and backs. ... It is a terrible situation in Benue state. |
... And two mobile policemen were killed yesterday in the same area by Fulani terrorists. I hope the soldiers from Takum who arrested the community defenders will get medals for helping Buhari's kinsmen to disarm the few courageous Benue youths who decided to protect their communities. Meanwhile, 36 persons, all Tiv, have so far been killed in Awe and Keana LGAs of Nasarawa state by fulani terrorists. Awe:33, Keana:3. The attacks are ongong and no arrest has been made. Hail Buhari's bloody kingdom! |
double0seven:Try find out if you are not yourself fake. http://punchng.com/herdsmen-kill-20-burn-houses-in-fresh-benue-attacks/ |
You have a farm for your cattle in your home town, but you are encouraging your kinsmen who have cattle and have been visiting mayhem on villagers across the country to engage in open grazing by providing them with soldiers for protection in the wilds. Double standards! |
That's what happens when president Buhari refuses to deploy the military to deal with the terrorists...that they are mere criminal gangs. See where tolerance of Fulani terrorism has landed us. Nigeria is in deep trouble. |
FortifiedCity:he was not alone, the others got away. |
Me, I'm looking for a land animal that can devour lions for meals. Though they have crocodiles as their nemeses in the water, land animals continue to disappoint whenever lions confront them. |
morscino:Let those Fulani leaders who took responsibility for the death of hundreds of persons in Benue, Nasarawa, and elsewhere be arrested then, only then, would those who lead Nigeria today be taken seriously. That lawyer aplogised and the driver who gave him the information is in detention for the same matter. The wise thing to do would have been to report the lawyer to the NBA to caution him for his indiscretion. El-Rufai' s unforgiving nature, which himself had proudly announced as innate to Fulanis, looks set to redefine our relationships with people of his kind for the worse ... Elsewhere, El-Rufai would have been forced to leave office to defend himself for conspiring with and paying foreigners to kill the people of southern Kaduna. |
EternalTruths:Exactly! |
HungerBAD:Hmm ... Five soldiers were killed in that same Agatu area by invading Fulani militias, about three years ago, but the army did not invade the militias' known hideouts in Nasarawa state; all was silent. I remember how the secretary of the Fulani cattle union in Benue state, one Garus Gololo, was quoted to have "sympathised" with the army for losing soldiers in the "crossfire". Something is terribly wrong in this country, and it holds no good for anyone. |
omofunaab:Bad imitative mockery. |

Amoyinoluwa24:16 villages of Takad people of Kaura LGA in the same southern Kaduna which were attacked and occupied by fulani herdsmen, their cows and families since 2013 have become Fulani villages. El-Rufai sees nothing wrong with that, he prefers bullying to honest engagement that can end the killings. Well, anyone who has been watching the happenings there knows that El_Rufai and his fulani is part of the problem. |
So TUface no get brain to understand when something moves from bad to worst, abi? Who organised him to become a super-musician? Those who hate that "former governor" should look for a better excuse to hit out at him, this one is too childish. |
They've got everything so they can afford to fight for nothing. |
lalasticlala:They haven't "stormed" any of the Middle Belt states ravaged by fulani herdsmen. The people of Enugu state must never put their fate in the hands of these selfish politicians. Middle Belters made that mistake and they are now crying with no one to console them. |
