If the statistics on poverty are true, then that would make Nigeria the only country on planet earth were the most educated people are amongst the poorest. Defying everything we know about poverty and how to alleviate it.
So no, Igboland is not poor nor amongst the poorest. Everyone knows that. Poor people don't manufacture cars. Most of Nigeria's indigneous industrial capacity is in Igboland. Again, poor people don't run industries.
Nigeria is just an immensely corrupt country and the NBS statistics are simply a deterrant or ploy, againgst the ever growing Biafra movement. Just like the landlocked argument.
These attempts at deterring Igbo people from forming their own country will get more and more desperate as Biafra edges towards realisation. So if your Igbo expect more ridiculous things to come.
Caseless: liar! If not for insugency, borno can never be compared to ebonyi in any measurement. They claim education everytime, but are always in lagos selling gala in traffic.
The insurgency in Borno is a symptom of poverty and underdevelopment. Prior to Boko Haram, Borno State had a 90% poverty rate.
Yes, we must bring up education, because education is the key to poverty alleviation. Not just in Nigeria, but all over the world.
To get a job or make employment for others you need education. All over the known universe (except for Nigeria, according to you) educated people make more money than uneducated people. People who work at Wall Street, make more money than cleaners, cashier workers, porters, etc.
To be honest I can't believe I have to explain this to you. Are you so emotional that it inhibits your ability to think rationally?
deltaprincess: There is nothing urbanized here. Maybe you should find another word for that because based on the general context of that word, Oba is a rural township.
You need to step out of Nigeria to know what Urbanization means. Nigeria is majorly a rural country.
It does look urbanised, and the point he's making is that, Oba is a small town in Anambra, despite its relative development. That's unusual in Nigeria, as most of its development is centralised. In the states, it's pretty much the state capitals, and everywhere else is usually rural village settlements.
This is coming from someone born and raised in England.
Futuragetty: Clueless government! if really he's wants to keep Enugu safe, how about he ensure that a total lock-down in out in place. people have been coming in and going out of Enugu. I know someone going back and forth, according to him, he's pass is guaranteed so long as he has his 5k
#NotMyGovernor
So the governor is responsible for the unscrupulous behaviour of Nigerian citizens?
OROSUNBOLB: When exactly will the push finally come to shove ? Oh by the time Igbo are driven out of their land by the fulani right ? Isn't it time they bring the so called "experience" of the civil war to bear and safe themselves from the hands of these fulani who have continued to humiliate Igbo people right on their soil ?
Lol ! You want us to admire your Igbo boyfriend's courage and confidence too whereas his people are being killed like a common fowl without any challenge. Your boyfriend, just like his compatriots, is a toothless bull dog that can only bark but bite ! They are not called empty chest beaters here for nothing.
Trust me,if the push comes to shove as you put it, fulani herdsmen will turn the whole of south east to grazing land for their cows. They have demonstrated their willingness and capacity to do just that. The fact is that Igbo should not test their resolve to do it.
Take a look at how a small fulani boy humiliated a supposedly courageous and confident Igbo man right on his farmland and in front of his wife and relatives !
Stop trying to incite violence. Those who destroyed the produce will pay the cost and the case will be over. No one is taking over anywhere in Igboland.
Anambra host 63 major markets, this is outside small, medium and large scale industries in Anambra, you can see Yami Kale is deceiving you guys
The entire conversation is about them lying to themselves, because the truth is too uncomfortable to accept.
Now we're to believe that Oyo State is some entrepreneurs paradise. Manufacturing cars, trucks, motocycles, computers, food stuff...oh sorry, that's Igboland.
I know Yoruba people. They are educated people, but they're not business people. They go to school, get good grades and apply for jobs - that's their M.O. and I'm not knocking it. But comparing Igbo people to Yoruba people is laughable.
PeterUdeme: Igbos know they can’t achieve Biafra without the Niger delta. Ojukwu lost the war when the Nigerian government captured the Niger delta. That’s why you always here SS/SE from ipob clowns. They can’t do it alone.
Igbo people don't have to do anything to achieve Biafra. The way things are going, the Nigerian economy will collapse - with all these loans, at which point, forming our own country will be a very popular idea. Not just amongst Igbo people, but also Yoruba people, Middle Belters and those within the Niger Delta region.
Whiteangel1234: Its for the Igbos to convince them if we really need Biafra but if we cannot then its to face our destiny in Nigeria and try to establish Political Relevance
There is no guarantee it have to be about building trust making it 100% resource control in Biafra Constitution , Have state Police force only , an Igbo man cannot be a police in Ijaw land , or Efik land every state create their police with the aborigines but Biafra will have Single Military joint force
Abolish office of the President in Biafra and have only a prime minister to be appointed by the ruling party or coalition parties . if we cannot convince even 50% of our Niger Delta Brothers to join us then we just forget Biafra because it will never come until the North Discover Oil and Break out of Nigeria after the finish using Niger Delta oil its the sad reality
There's no 'trying' the nation should be constructed in such a manner, that it carries everyone along, otherwise it will collapse. In short, Nigeria MUST be restructured.
PeterUdeme: But majority ipob members do not understand this. They believe Yoruba is their enemy without understanding that their own elites are against Biafra just like all the elites in Nigeria are against the break up, thus creating many enemies for themselves.
If Igbo elites are against Biafra, why did they all rally to get him out of jail? Noone in the East is against Biafra. That's not in doubt. It's the method of actualisation that is the issue. Nigerian politicians are Nigerian - as I've said before, it's illegal to setup a party like SNP (Scottish National Party) in the country. The Nigerian constitution was designed to keep all those within it, in a prison of sorts. While apportioning the wealth of the nation to the North of the country.
PeterUdeme: If they can carry ijaw along, they can negotiate with foreign powers like France and Russia using their oil wells as a promise. Those countries can supply them weapons and fight their battle for them. Biafra is achievable but kanu is a hate filled, tribal supremacy Buffon who have made all the ethnic groups that would have support him his enemy. His mission is failed already. Let him keep entertaining them with jubril and how Osinbajo has been killed.
That's illegal. No foreign nation is going to support terrorism in a foreign country, especially not in an African one. That'd be a disaster for both France, and Russia already has sanctions on it - they wouldn't want anymore.
An oil war is the worst way to gain Biafra. We don't want to create turmoil in West Africa. There are millions of poor uneducated people in Northern Nigeria, that in the event of a Nigerian collapse, will have to migrate to other places within Africa to survive, with South-East Nigeria being one of the biggest recipients of these migrants.
An agreement, which involves Northern Nigeria receiving proceeds from oil receipts for another 5 - 10 years, which Nnamdi Kanu has suggested, is much better.
To use violence to achieve a political goal is called terrorism. So you're advocating that IPOB become a terrorist organisation?
If IPOB started bombing oil installations it'd lose its international support. Moreover there are no provisions whatsoever for succession in the Nigerian constitution. It's ILLEGAL to form a party for the sole objective of breaking away from the country.
Thus, there is no official way of achieving Biafra. Nigeria has been designed to be unbreakable. A prison for all those that live within it. The only way to achieve Biafra is either through civil disobedience or the total economic collapse of Nigeria - which is where the country is currently heading, thanks to this administration.
Salewa97: The bolded is the lie of the century. Anambra is NOT the state with the highest SMEs in Nigeria, that is a great lie bro.
Oyo State SMEs is almost 4x that of Anambra. You guys hype your state too much and give false statistics without sources.
Below is a comprehensive 167 page report from NBS on the list of SMEs by states and the type of SMEs in Nigeria and the modalities. Also included is the CAC business registration by states and Employment figures.
Are you absent-minded? Didn't you dispute the educational results? If you don't believe them, because of the corruption in the Nigerian system, why are you quoting statistics from Nigeria to me?
This isn't about truth with you. This is about emotions.
If you want to spend the rest of your days, lying to yourself, then fine. You're not convincing me, and you're most certainly not convincing the generality of Yoruba people. They know the truth, that's why they'll NEVER push for their own independent country.
Salewa97: Your link said Anambra emerges as the best supporter of SMEs and NOT the state with the highest SMEs.
Should I say you don’t understand basic English or you just purposely feign ignorance. How does emerging beat supporter of SMEs come into this context of our arguments?
You're so vulgar. Behaviour like a human being, or just don't respond to me.
Is it that difficult to grasp, the point I'm making. Why is Anambra winning awards for SME support, when, apparently, according to your dubious report, the number of SMEs in the state are relatively low? Does that make sense to you?
Moreover, for those states that do, supposedly have lots of SMEs in them, what exactly do they have to show for it? Last time I checked, pretty much, all of Nigeria's indigenous industrial power is in the South-East. Oyo isn't known for manufacturing anything.
Salewa97: You mean the same WAEC and JAMB that SE always lead in the malpractices ratings? You are using Waec to judge education in a corrupt nation like Nigeria? Is it not the same SE where special centers even exist in a government secondary school located in the cities?
The same Waec that most parents always register their kids at special centers and other impersonation sittings is what you’re using to judge education? I can see you know nothing!
How many institutions are in Enugu and what is the ratings of their universities and research institutions with respect to Oyo state?
Guy no matter what metrics you use, don’t ever place Oyo and Enugu in the same sentence. Even the life expectancy rate statistics showed by NBS indicates that Oyo has a higher expectancy rate than Enugu.
In terms of industries, Oyo leads Enugu.
In terms of SMEs Oyo state thrash Enugu. Infact after Lagos, the next in line is alternating between Oyo state and Rivers State.
I told you before, let’s both use all the available statistical metrics to judge both Enugu and Oyo state. If Enugu lead Oyo state by points, then I will apologize openly to you!
Attached are 4 documents to buttress my facts. —Enugu has a higher unemployment rate than Oyo. —Oyo has high SMEs than Enugu —Oyo has high Micro Enterprises than Enugu —Oyo has more business registered with CAC than Enugu
Tell me what are the economic indices needed to judge?
Give me a link to those statistics, so I can look at them. That said, the employment stats, are 3 years out of date.
Anambra has also been reported to have/had the most SMEs in the country. Which would make sense, given the entrepreneurial nature of the people, and the number of products produced in the state.
What SMEs do you have in Oyo. Show me these products that Oyo people make.
Well, it's a simple measurement, the WAEC and JAMB results. Not much room for manipulation. But okay, if you don't agree with them, then you have to be consistent, and only quote independent studies, and I mean INDEPENDANT, not collaborative reports.
Salewa97: Lol. Even based on all economic indices, Ibadan trash Enugu.
GDP, IGR, Poverty metrics, Industries, Infrastructures, Academic institutions, Research institutions, and etc.
Do you want to contest any of the above?
Can you see equating Ibadan, Enugu, and London in this context is rubbish. It could only be applicable if Enugu has a better economic indices than Ibadan.
Not long ago, Enugu was quoted as one of the poverty capital of the south and yet you’re here telling me about an imaginary economy.
Fun fact: Do you know Enugu is tiny without a good economic metrics? Do you know almost half of Enugu is covered with brown roofs? Even the multi-story buildings are dilapidated with brown roofs and some without windows? Do you also know everything is readily available to me through google earth?
I will be following all of you closely, we are going to be painting nairaland with lot of brown roofs going forward. So ya’ll should thread with caution!
Yes, it was, defying everything we know and understand about poverty. In the real world, poverty is heavily correlated with education (https://www.childfund.org/poverty-and-education/). As well as other things. But in Nigeria, the opposite reigns true. Making Nigeria the only country on earth, where less educated people (or uneducated people), do better economically than more educated (or educated) people.
IGR is not a human development index, GDP and Per Capita are, along with life expectancy and education. Life expectancy is measured by mortality rates, which in turn is influenced by healthcare delivery: which encompasses, hospitals, access to medicines & basic amenities (such as clean water, sanitation, etc). It is these factors that measure wellbeing, living standards and actual poverty.
All the other stuff you wrote simply showcases your limited understanding of how civilisations work.
Salewa97: You are just saying nonesense to be honest. Sorry if that seems like an insult but you are bandying figures around like an illiterate. Why not say the slum covered 100%?
I have been to Enugu and Ebonyi before. On two different occasions. Those places are an eyesore and I saw firsthand the reason why the Igbo people always cry about infrastructural decay.
No good roads, no solid city structures, erosion is too much such that there was a hole on some of the roads. I saw poverty that is real in those places. You can only fool the people that have not been to the South East, you can’t fool someone like me.
Ibadan is a great city with nice buildings and city structure. There are lot of industries with better infrastructure to go with. The cost of living is low and you can still get the luxury life of what you will get in Lagos.
Ibadan alone has 11 local government which consist of 7 urban local government in the city. For example, there is one of the local government called Oluyole local government, it houses a lot of buildings of Oluyole Estates, Elebu, Ashipa, New garage, and etc and has a lot of industries. The size of Oluyole local government alone is 629sqkm while all of Owerri city is just 100sqkm. That means one local government in Ibadan is 6x owerri size. (Use google to verify my claim)
I’m trying to let you know that buildings in Ibadan alone could be more than those in 2states in the South-East. Because you said in one of your post that buildings in Enugu will be more than those in Ibadan. I’m just laughing at your ignorance.
You can lie to yourself, but you can't lie to me. I'm not bandying around anything, I'm guesstimating, based on what my eyes see.
Postulate as much as you want, but it won't change the facts. Ibadan is larger than London, yet, London has an economy almost twice the size of Nigeria. Landmass is irrelevant, all that matters is what's on the land. Most of Ibadan is slums, so you can only really account for the developed areas, which, as I've said before, is anywhere from 1% to 5% of the city or town (whatever you want to call it). Everywhere else in Ibadan is null and void; at least by civilised human standards. Maybe you don't see a problem with black folk living in squalor, but I do.
Salewa97: You got nothing on me and the Igbos have always been the childish people online going by your judgement.
You people always drag Ibadan into your nonesense everytime by showing pics of the slum side of Ibadan. All I just did was to show the slum side of Enugu that covered almost half of the city as shown on Google Earth.
Why are you crying? Why are you feigning innocence? Who is notorious for showing buildings everytime like village kids if not the Igbos on Nairaland?
Before you said it was 1% of Ibadan I’m showing, now you said it’s 5% lol. Later you will say it’s 50% coz you can’t stomach the thought that Ibadan is actually a more greater city than your tiny Enugu.
I can go on and on by pushing this thread to 20 pages with pictures of Ibadan areas without repeating images from google street view alone. And all of them will be nice buildings and structures.
You started this first, you were the one that brought video of Ibadan and Enugu for comparison in the first place. So why are you crying now?
I did not show the slum side of Ibadan, because I didn't see the value in it. Ibadan is a slum city, that's not in doubt nor up for debate. Over 90%, whether 99% or 95% of Ibadan is a slum, filled with dilapidated buildings, dust roads, and unkempt muddy streets. I could literally spend a month posting unflattering images of Ibadan - but to what end?
This isn't a matter of emotions, as you try so hard to paint it. Anyone with eyes, can look and see what Ibadan primarily is. The areas you were/are showing are minimal, relatively speaking, and many of them are only marginally better than the poorer areas of Enugu. The nice areas of Enugu are head and shoulders above Ibadan. I can even show you a video of a YORUBA man proclaiming that Enugu is better than anywhere in his own land.
So let's just end this okay - you can continue to lie to yourself, if it makes you feel better. But I don't see the point.
P.S. No one is crying, upset or flattered by your postulation. I wish the best for Ibadan. I want Yorubaland to develop, in fact, I want all of Africa to develop - and I don't want to hear any excuses. I'm tired of Yoruba people referring to Ibadan as an ancient city, as a means of writing away, what's so glaring to the rest of the world. That serious intervention is required.
Karlifate: Yes, Nigeria is a time bomb waiting to explode. BTW, this man made salient points that needs sober reflection tho. >> The almagamation of the Northern & the Southern Protectorate by the British in 1914 was a huge mistake. >>Our togetherness has been fused together NOT true consultation BUT through unilateral action by the colonial masters & the politicians at that time to serve their selfish interest. >> It is better to break into smaller, smaller countries if that would save lives, properties, relationships & posterity. Because I do not see any Angel in human form that would save Nigeria; *The Yorubas should form their own Oduduwa Republic *The Igbos should create their Republic of Biafra. *The Niger-Delta should actualize their Niger-Delta Republic. *Only the North will have problems because they have alot of minorities amongst them.
Nigeria's amalgamation was due to practicality. The British crown didn't want to foot the bill to keep Northern Nigeria afloat, so they used the surplus from the South to do it. Combining the country made sense. It was idealism that kept the country together at independence. Today it's fear keeping the country together.
The only group clamouring for their own nation are Igbo people. Oduduwa is a contingency, rather than an objective. The Niger Delta is a diverse region, which in the event of Nigeria's collapse, should split into as many nations as the people there want.
sage: Thanks for being honest. Some Igbo people here lie to themselves all day and pretend the Southeast is an economic juggernaut when in reality a lot of people are even scared of going back home because of kidnapping and most influential entrepreneurs have fled to Lagos (and some Abuja)
Cities like Aba that used to be the industrial heart of Igbo land has been rotting while people who are destroying places like Abia state engage in silly propaganda even on this platform
What is so sad about what South east leaders are doing is that they are eroding our ethnic identity slowly. When our kids are born in Lagos,, Abuja or overseas to parents who run away from Igbo land and dont spend anytime there anymore because its comatose economically and unsafe, these kids lose our language and our culture slowly fades away. Our identity dies bit by bit
Our problem is not Fulani, Yorubas or any of these things we waste our time on. I weep whenever I see all these arguments on here. Our problem is Ikpeazu, T.A Orji, Ikuku and the likes. They are the one destroying Igbo land
The most reliable identifier is education, seeing as there's a direct correlation between education and poverty. Thus, if Igbo states were faltering, as you see it, then you'd see Igbo states performing worse education wise.
The mere fact that Igbo states perform the best. With all five states finishing in the top 10, with 4 of them typically finishing in the top 6, Says otherwise.
Unless we're to believe that Nigeria is the only place on earth were illeducated people do better than educated people.
Just accept the fact that Nigeria is a dreadfully corrupt country. And stop speaking I'll of us born outside of Nigera. We're the lucky ones. Do we not send biliions back to Igboland each year?
Vidsolution79: I'm always laughing anytime I see Igbo people chest beating on nairaland it's so funny.....just accept that SW Leads in everything.....the earlier u understand this, the better for you!
Oh come on, I could wipe the floor with his pictures. In fact, I don't need to show Enugu, I just need to show Ibadan, and the argument will end. Homes scattered around the outskirts of the metropolis is not development. That's people with means, beating a hasty retreat.

Keep showing pictures of 5% of Ibadan, and maybe you'll forget the other 95% exists. If I was as childish as you, I'd spend, literally hours posting unflattering images of Ibadan. Pictures that Ibadan has in abundance.
Most of those pictures are borderline anyway. Come on now.
Salewa97: Lol you are funny. I grew up in Ibadan and know a larger part of Ibadan like the back of my hand. I am telling you Ibadan is not Enugu's mate in all ramification. I already tolf you I have not been showing main Ibadan cities, I am just showing most of Oluyole local government while the better part of Ibadan are the likes of the Bodija GRAs, Osuntokun Avenue, Agodi GRA, Jericho GRA, Kolapo Ishola GRA, Aerodome GRA, and etc.
Even me that I grew up in Ibadan don't know 30% of the city because it is very huge. You will see all class of things in Ibadan.
See the first Image below now, that is example of the city road. Can you see what I am showing are just a lil bit part of Ibadan and are just residential areas.
As I said before, I can see, Google Earth is accessible to all. Those areas you're showing are only a fraction of the city. That is not an opinion, it's a fact. There's a strip of developed areas or at least, "more" developed areas, centred around the outskirts of the main city, but it constitutes such an insignificant part of the city that it's pointless emphasising.
90% of Ibadan residents live in those poor dilapidated buildings? Do you dispute this? If so, show me a Google Earth snapshot that confirms you're belief and refutes my own.
What exactly is Ibadan known for? Do they manufacture something I'm unaware of? And please don't show me multinationals.
Salewa97: Brother forget about aesthetic, Ibadan got nice mad structures.
You will see several aesthetics that you will marvel at in Ibadan. Just that the Yorubas don't care about projecting their city image like the Igbos always like doing because people react to the world differently.
The GRAs that are in Ibadan alone is more than what can be found in Enugu. This is not me making mouth, I am very serious. What is even the size of Enugu self!
I have eyes, I can see, anyone can access Google Earth. The areas you're showing are minute areas of the city. It'd be dishonest to try and paint this perception that those vaguely decent homes are in any way the majority of Ibadan. That's why Yoruba people don't showcase Ibadan. Because most Yoruba people have shame. It's no different from that Arewa guy showcasing the rich and famous of the North, while the vast majority wallow in penury. Ibadan is classified as a slum city, because of the majority of it is slums.
My video footage paints a more accurate view. Unlike your obscure images and crafty snapshots. Ordinarily I'd take umbrage, but you're Nigerian, and corruption is part of your culture.
Salewa97: Mr. I am not showing you Ibadan main city where you have the large roads and infrastructures. I can't capture all that will Google street view because they are massive.
I am just showing you few of the residential areas in Ibadan. Trust me, there are several of these scattered around Ibadan.
If you know Ibadan well, I am showing you mostly the Elebu, Oluyole side which is just a tiny part of the city.
Google Earth is readily accessible. I can see it. And it's a small area...very small.
You're doing the same thing, only in reverse. Accentuating this small area, to give the impression it's a significant part of Ibadan.
That area constitutes less than 1% of Ibadan, and it's only one housing area. As I said before, just Enugu Lifestyle city alone, is bigger than that (5 times to be exact). Not to mention all the other housing estates springing up everywhere.
Not a single one of the roads are paved. Why not? The place just looks dusty, and unkept, with a few, half decent homes. As I said before, 1% of Ibadan residents actually have toilets. It can NEVER compete with these home estates:
Salewa97: I am not even showing the better part of Ibadan yet. i am just starting.
You can see several thousands of houses like this scattered about.
Yourubas just don't have time for snapping pictures everytime which is why you don't see us litter everywhere with pictures.
Lies, Ibadan doesn't have thousands of anything. There's nothing to take pictures of. Let's see you take 1 thousand images of the same housing estate from a 100 different angles.
