skj1377: Oga Lagos will develop without Ibo. Secondly the river port your talking about will never replace or compete with Lagos port internationally because it will be cheaper and faster to ship to Lagos besides all known shippers have Lagos as a major as well as economically viable destination. Finally, the port in south south will never be as viable as Apapa in fact Cotonuo port will still be far cheaper to import through. Anyways other tribes do the same importation business that Ibo's do besides Yoruba's believe more in manufacturing and exportation which is actually what we need in the country to boost the value of our Currency. I am of the opinion that Nigeria has gotten close to the last busstop and very soon everybody will go home or to his Region and tribe. Let the Yoruba people develop their civilisation the way they want and if Ibo wants to visit they apply for visa or work permit. I actually don't see the benefit of Ibo compared to the noise they make allover the place. Spit You're whole argument is flawed, because, based on government statistics, 65% of everything that arrives at the Lagos Seaport is destined for the South-East. A Yoruba pastor prophecies that something grave would occur (which was obviously the elections) and that Lagos would diminish over the next decade. It looks like he may be correct. |

What is the point of now staying together in this British colonial fabrication called Nigeria only to be fighting and killing each other for eternity?
Let us all come together and agree fir Nigeria to disintegrate peacefully, everyone goes their separate ways and we can all finally rest. You think bigots like that guy want Nigeria to end? NO, they want Igbo people to be subservient to them, that's all. This is about supremacy, not equity. |

Perfectbeing: It doesn't matter where GRV comes from. Even if he comes from the lineage of the first Oba of Lagos gan gan, it will still be suspicious when a group not indigenous to Lagos or Yoruba land rally around him and try as much as possible to install him. They created twitter spaces where they said all of them must vote for him. They said they'd chase the Obas out of Lagos. There was a video trending in far away Abia State where Lagos was their number priority to take. They were saying they don't mind losing other States but they must win Lagos. That's very suspicious..
As a Nigerian I would be suspicious if South Africans or Ghanaians are so particular about one particular candidate being the President of Nigeria.. If the candidate like let him even come from my State (Edo State) there's no way I'd support that person.. Imagine SAns creating twitter spaces, making videos of why that candidate must be President. It will be so suspicious and I'll feel like I'm being manipulated..
I supported voted BAT in the Presidential election but if foreigners in and out of Nigeria were so particular about BAT winning, he would have lost my support. You're argument doesn't even make sense. Igbo people are NOT foreigners. Get that into your head. There's nothing suspicious about anything. The people rally behind the candidate they think is best, the one that will push the state forward and better the life of the masses, that's it. Nigeria is ONE, is it not? |

Orient petroleum refinery was built by Ibo with board of directors all Ibo as well as all the workers. The refinary was even located in Anambra as far back as 2003 you tell me if that refinery was located in Lagos since all these days will the fortune Of The Ibo owners not turned around?. Let me tell you we have tribal Ibo's like you investing in anambra and other eastern states but honestly ask them how far compared to their fellow Ibo brothers that invested in southwest!. Like I said Ibo's will not be missed if they go back to east including all their entertainers. Development is not magic, if Igbo people leave, NO ONE will come in and fill the void. If what you say were true, then every country in Africa would already be first world. You really, have no idea what you're talking about. You honestly want to believe the lie that Igbo people need Lagos more than Lagos needs Igbo people, as if Lagos is some first world city. Lagos, like everywhere else in Nigeria is still underdeveloped. Lagos needs an incredible amount of investments, to fix the glaring problems plaguing the city. Like access to treated water, electricity, gas etc. As far as riches go, Igbo wealth is in Igboland. Where do you think Igbo people learned business from? In Lagos? LMAO. It's good that Onitsha River Port is now active, and with the Ports in South-South eventually becoming active, there will be no reason for Yoruba and Igbo people to interact with one another. You can be happy, Igbo can be happy, everyone can be happy. |

JOemmy: Waste of time even the great ojukwu himself once came to lagos and also gave the same advised but my igbo brothers who are the most stubborn ethnic group in nigeria refused to take the advice. Go to the core north where igbos where massacred in their thausands just few years ago they are still going there in their millions for business and investing massively there.
The only solution I see is autonomy for the south east and massive infrastructural development in the region which will make the region attractive to igbo youths to live in and invest if this is not done the daring igbos I know will rather prefer to continue to die hustling and making it big in the regions of their sworn enemies than remain in igboland where there are no much opportunities to make it big in life. Igbo people are not big in the North anymore, why do you think there hasn't been any pogroms for years? Igbo people have already started moving back home, Enugu has one of the fast developing property markets, outside of Lagos. This current predicament will only accelerate that growth. Igbo people no longer exist in the north, in substantial numbers, and that's soon to be the case in the South-West. |

Sleekcode: Unfortunately for them they can't do a single thing about the Igbos in their land. Nigeria is a mess
If we feel Lagos is the place in Nigeria that business can thrive easily
Any igboman with all his family members can migrate their and do his business there
They can only wail
But can't do a single thing except increase taxes As I said before, it's not necessarily Igbo people moving to Lagos that's the issue. It's poverty that's the problem. In a climate like Nigeria's, anyone perceived to be doing well, is going to attract attention and Igbo people just have that stereotype, whether real or imagined. If everyone has everything they need, a home, regular meals, children in school etc, then no one will care what Igbo people are doing. |

Sleekcode: Yorubas have clearly stated they don't want us in their state.
Same with Hausa.
Many many years ago we've said ok.
Allow us form our own country as we ourselves are perfectly fine being in our own land you also said No!
Now allow us contest for presidency in the same Nigeria you forcefully want us to be part of.
You say an Igbo man can't near Aso Rock chair.
Now you're already making us feel excluded from anything that concerns the government of Nigeria and we speak out and say we feel excluded and we'd love to have a country of ours.
You then call us Terrorist.
What exactly do you want from us?
Remember this is the only time in so many years a notable Igbo man has come out to campaign for presidency with even the lowest rated almost unknown political party.
YET!
They are so pained, scared, uncomfortable, worried!
Why are u bringing up threads each day to discredit a man you have said is inconsequential and have no chance? Why not allow him fail since you believe he has already failed
All this hatred and nonsense you're doing only shows that.
If peter Obi was the Flag bearer of either APC OR PDP
No one in the opposite side would have stood a chance at all!!! The issue is poverty, Nigeria has a lot of it, and in that kind of setting it can breed resentment, especially towards those who are at least, perceived to be doing well. The only way to fix it, is to make Nigeria better. You say, "they don't want you on their land", well, you being on their land, isn't the issue, it's your success that rubs them the wrong way. Then you say, "they won't let you form your own country". Well of course not, especially if they think you would thrive in this new country. It all plays into the resentment, envy and jealousy. They'll never be in support of anything they feel will benefit you. That's why they are so vehemently against Peter Obi. I'm speaking generally here. |

benardtotti: Unfortunately you are preaching to the choir, Nigerians don't believe in hard way or work to success , they want instant success and solutions to their problems ,that's why we are where we are even after over 20 years of democracy since 99, even this Peter Obi I pity him cos if he by a stroke of luck wins next elections he can't solve nigerias problems in 4 years ,same folks shouting his praises will turn on him ,just watch ,his first poisoned chalice will be subsidy removal . Nigeria has never had a good leader; no one in the calibre of Peter Obi, that's for sure. So I disagree, I don't think people will turn on him. As long as he's working for the betterment of the country, people will back him. That's more than we can say for Buhari, who spends most of his time abroad, and when he is in the country, it's like he's in hiding. He's been in office for nearly 8 years, but hasn't implemented any new policies or programs to stimulate economic growth. The country has barely grown in the year's he's been in office. Poverty has increased, with more than 20+ million more people living below the poverty line. Nigeria now has more extreme poor than any other country on earth, that includes both India and China, two nations with a billion plus populations. Pulling people out of poverty isn't rocket science, China did it in no time. The difference is, they had actual seasoned politicians in power to do it. Nigeria on the other hand, has never had anyone in office that had the preparation, education and mental capacity to lift the nation forward....if Peter Obi comes to power, he'll be the first. |

GeneralPula: These francophone country sha.. Its unfortunate that France is still ontop on these people till date..
Burkina Faso does not know the kind of problem they’re into. It will take them more than 50years to get back to normal. Coup is never a good thing. Not because the military can’t rule well, but because Military’s rule is dictative. Nothing really concern them about the nations law..
Nigeria should be thankful it was British that colonized us..
Libya has been reduced to nothing today because they didn’t use their head, which lead to the death of gadaffi. Nigeria is still suffering from the 1966 coup till date one way or the other.. The military cannot rule, because they're not trained to rule nations. They don't know how to govern, how to implement policies, how to cater to the masses. All they know how to do is direct regiments, prepare and prosecute conflicts...that's it. The military are their own problem. The last leader was disposed due to incompetence, which was predictable, given he was a former solider. And now you have another solider in office, who, in no time, will be disposed for the same reason. This problem will go on and on until one of two situations occurs, a civilian ruler comes in that is able to stabilise the country, or, like in the case of Nigeria, the country reaches the brink of total economic collapse. |
Politics › Re: Peter Obi, How Can We Develop Without Infrastructure? by rdokoye: 6:43am On Sep 10, 2022 |
Quintopia: Peter Obi, How Can We Develop Without Infrastructure?
I've heard this man say on a number of occasions that infrastructural development will not be a priority in his administration, if elected..
HOW CAN WE DEVELOP WITHOUT INFRASTRUCTURE?
He said 'human development' was more important.
But how is infrastructure not part of that 'human development'?
By building a road connecting a village to a city, are you not building their human capital and improving their living standards, by allowing their farmers to travel easily to sell their produce without stress?
Or where a village is cut off by a lake, will a bridge not solve their economic isolation and boost commerce and hence, living standards in the village?
Are you not engaging in human development when you build a railway line connecting Lagos and Onitsha, when it will greatly reduce the cost of doing business, while facilitating smooth transportation of goods and people, hence driving down prices for the common man?
Do you know that bad roads contribute to poor human development by hampering commercial activities, and by leading to inflation caused by high cost of movement of goods?
When you build or revamp an airport, are you not making the location attractive to investors, who will come in and establish businesses to employ citizens, thus raising their living standards?
SO WHY DO YOU FROWN ON INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT, MR PETER OBI? You're question implies that both Human Development and Infrastructure Development are mutually exclusive. Human Development is a term that denotes a group of indicators used to measure the general living standards of a populace. Human Development is IMPOSSIBLE without infrastructure development. How can you improve the educational attainment of a populace without building schools? How can you improve the life expectancy of a population without building hospitals? How can you improve the wealth of a populace without funding businesses and improving transportation? When Peter Obi says he'll focus on Human Development, he simply means that his mode of governance will be PEOPLE-FOCUSED. Everything he does, will be focused on the wellbeing of the average Nigerian man/woman. He won't waste money on projects that aren't inline with his ultimate desire of improving the livelihood of the population. For example, he wouldn't waste money building a railway line to Niger. He'd also pool a significantly larger portion of Nigeria's annual budget into the most integral areas of Human Development, which are EDUCATION, SECURITY, AND HEALTH. That means, increasing Nigeria's educational budget, freeing up institutions, so that they can generate funding independently of the state. Allocating more money to security, increasing the national police force, legalising state police etc. And spending more money on health services: building hospitals, establishing funding sources (for use of services, by average citizens) etc. |

I was marvelled that the ever busy, dirty and always rowdy EkeAwka roundabout has now received the attention of the govt. The uncouth roadside traders who majorly contribute a greater percentage of dirt around the EkeAwka axis weren’t in sight. Security men were also seen hanging around to ward off urchins. Nice one Soludo
Whatever Soludo is doing now...needs to be intensified. Demolish dirty looking structures around EkeAwka and give Zik avenue a face lift. Wish commercial banks or cooperate establishments buy that axis of EkeAwka and construct buildings of fresh air there.
While attention is being given to EkeAwka..Our hardworking gov mustn’t forget to work on upper iweka, one of the most dangerous area in Onitsha. The sort of tales u get to hear from that place isn’t pleasing to the ears...it’s one which evokes fear.
