By the way if you really want to change what Google shows, then include more content/metadata in every image you want to show up on Google. So for instance you could include Anambra/ the correct spelling of Onitsha in every image of Anambra or Onitsha. You could also include Osha as well any more specific terms.

Why are you posting 10 year old pictures on this thread? Google Images will take whatever it finds; the most prominent pictures for any keyword search term will either be the oldest or most linked images in the search engine listings.

P.S. Can you delete that image you posted, because it doesn’t serve any real purpose outside of a faintly veiled attempt to disparage Anambra State?

As an Igbo man born and raised in London, England, I don’t see anything wrong with those buildings, in fact, they look almost identical to many of the housing estates here, with probably a little more flair, because the homes can be a little stale in London.

The only major difference I see is the streets, the roads don’t have any markings, nor are there any pavements. Road signs seem to be used sparingly also, but these are easy things to fix, which I’m sure doesn’t cost too much money.

The states governments in Nigeria appear to be too fixated on building as much road as possible that they cut corners on the things, they deem are not priorities. In England, we have the complete opposite mindset, in that governments would rather spend as much money as possible building 1 mile of road, rather than spending the least amount of money so that they can build 10 miles of road.

So Nigerians don’t clean their homes? I think that’s just an illustration of failed governance. It’s not the responsibility of the average citizen to maintain the state, it’s the governments. That’s how it’s done all over the world.

Things are different today, Nigeria actually has a government now, so I don’t think having a nuclear power plant would be much of an issue; maintenance is part and parcel of running a nuclear plant. It’s not as if you just build it and then leave it. No, it’s built, run and maintained by engineers throughout its operational use.

With buildings, you have building regulations and regulators that go out and ensure that all buildings are built in the appropriate locations and are maintained. Obviously Nigeria’s building regulators have been sleeping on the job. Abuja appears to be the only city in Nigeria, where these laws are properly enforced.

To be honest, the conduct of some Nigerians, especially from the SE, has been shocking and disgraceful. They have shown they are guided only by their hatred of others and do not mean well for Nigeria. I was an unrelenting critic of GEJ before the 2011 election. Yet I wished him well as soon as he won and pledged support for his government if he justifies his mandate by leading Nigeria well. I did not do this because I loved or believed in GEJ. I did it because I love and believe in Nigeria and understood that my interest in the progress of Nigeria compels me to back GEJ.

We have not seen such gracious and pro-Nigerian behaviour from our SE and SS brothers. Just bitter and hateful diatribe all over the place, to include wishing the SW evil, that makes it appear these folks are very petty people interested more in satisfying their primitive hatred and lust for vengeance against others above getting behind the effort to usher in a better Nigeria to the glory of us all. Do some of these bigots understand that many worldwide have had stable electricity for over 50 years while we remain in the stone ages? Rather than face such pivotal issues of unacceptable underdevelopment it is the ethnocentric fight against the SW and North some carry on their head as if this is the most important thing in the world. Pathetic. Yet it could be a good thing as objective and progress-minded Nigerians can now see the hate-driven and saboteur mentality drivjng some of our "brothers" . This will enable those who mean well for Nigeria to see they must protect themselves better .

This is what democracy is all about; politicians win and lose all over the world. Many people do not like Buhari and they still do not, they have a right, under a democratic government to voice their opinions about him, as long as they don’t take to the streets and start killing people indiscriminately; which is all too common in Northern Nigeria.

Everybody knows that if Buhari had lost, a civil war would have broke out, between the illiterate savages in Northern Nigeria, and the Nigerian government.

Jonathan had a lot of critics from the SW and North, including me, going into the 2011 election. I don’t need to Google anything; the Nigerian Government doesn’t receive aid money, never has in its entire history and never will. However, Nigeria has NGOs working within its borders and many of them receive grants from the respective nations that setup these NGOs, such as Great Britain and USA.

The Nigerian Government refused, because they know the Nigerian people would go insane if foreign troops were allowed to operate on Nigerian soil. Nigeria already has a large and competent army that has fought in many wars all across Africa, and has soldiers stationed in many nations right now.

Nigeria doesn’t need the incompetent USA army to come in and blow stuff up; because USA’s track record shows that their army is completely incapable of fighting and stopping insurgencies. That’s why many USA military advisors were thinking the Nigerian army wouldn’t be capable of beating Boko Haram.

World leaders were probably gathered in France because these are countries that work TOGETHER and not AGAINST each other. In America, we have our own issues and politicians don't mind dabbling in other countries issues from time to time. But why must America be the entire planet's savior
? I only assumed this since you didn't point out any other country. Let me ask this. If there was a major crisis occurring here, would the Nigerian government send troops to help us? I truly doubt that. The United States used to send BILLIONS of dollars to Nigeria EVERY year in order to "better" the country. But what happens to the money? The corrupt government takes it all. It's public record. Google it. The U.S. will not support a president that promotes Sharia law or one that does a poor job of protecting its citizens and military personnel.

No one is asking USA to come to Nigeria. USA has offered on many occasions to station troops in Nigeria, but the Nigerian government has refused. The problem is USA policy prohibits American soldiers from working with militaries that have been accused of human rights abuses, that’s why their involvement in the Boko Haram issue has been minimal.

And for why USA should be concerned with what goes on in Nigeria. Well Nigeria has the number one economy in Africa, with the largest population and the biggest potential.

Throughout the past two decades, we’ve had an insurgency in the far south involving the Niger Detlans, and we’ve had an insurgency in the North, involving Northerners as a whole. Both conflicts have resulted in the loss of thousands of lives; none of these conflicts have involved Igbo people.

All this Igbo bashing is just a natural reflex, Igbo people didn’t vote for Buhari, because he is a former dictator, Islamist and instigator of violence, it has nothing to do with him being from the North.

I saw a recent listing by World Bank of countries by GDP-PPP for 2013 released last month (September). I instinctively went down the page to go look for Nigeria at 40s position, where I expected her to be, but to my surprise , she's up there 20th!

Now, the figure is another thing. It's almost a billion (international) dollar! I'm quite confused right now. Can someone with better knowledge explain to me what I'm looking at?... please!

That's PPP, Nigeria is the 19th largest economy by PPP. But nominally, it's the 23rd largest.

I'm just as furious as you with what has gone on in this country since independence, and like you also believe the likes of Zik and Awo didn't really realize the enormity of the task before them.....a task not just of growing the new nations economy, but more importantly, one of managing the competing heterogeneous interests of the hundreds of ethnic groups and the two main religions in the country! They had a myopic view of what independence meant and felt our one and only problem was how to get rid of the British.....and that once we got rid of them it would be uhuru and celebratory drinks all round for everybody!

My answer to the question posed by the OP would be a mixture of what the two respondents said. Yes, we should have some form of quasi-recolonization; one in which Nigerians hold the national political positions (more of a ceremonial affair or else they would want to dabble into and influence the actual running things), while we outsource the management of critical sectors of the economy to reputable international consultants for a defined period of say 10 to 15 years! These consultants should be responsible for areas such as finance, works and housing, tourism, health, petroleum/solid minerals, education, justice, and -most important of all- RECRUITMENT OF NIGERIANS TO FILL SENSITIVE POSITIONS THAT IMPACT ON THE ECONOMY! The recruitment of Nigerians should be done strictly on merit, with quota-system and stupi/d federal character stopped within 5 years! If after 5 years the best can only be found in one region or ethnicity -say North West or Hausa/Fulani for instance- then so be it; it will now make others to sit up and put in their best or else they'll be left behind......no more free lunch and sitting on your arsse in the knowledge that whether you try or not, you'll still have the same chances as the other person that put in the effort and burned the midnight candle studying!

And when the consultants eventually leave, our polity would have been sufficiently sanitized and our national psyche changed from that of having a sense of entitlement, greed, tribalism and primitive accumulation of wealth; to that of hardwork, healthy competition and national pride! Also, the structure of the polity would have to change to that of a true federation or con-federation, either this happens or else i can guarantee you we'd be back to our old ways in no time!

How can you have a sense of national pride, after having someone else govern your country for you?

If you think Nigeria should out source its management, then you are essentially saying YOU are inferior.

Removing federal character would NEVER work, because Nigeria is a unification of several kingdoms, like the UK. So having one ethnic group dominate a specific sector or most of the nations sectors throughout the entire country would only lead to animosity.

While on visit to the USA, when Americans asked me the difference between Nigeria and America infrastructure wise, they are surprised when i say NONE!
Because everything in America was in Nigeria at some time, but had collapsed. America builds her infrastructure just once, then continues to maintain and upgrade it. Nigeria will build her infrastructure, then allow it to collapse and then starts re-building the same thing from the scratch again! Imagine the billions of dollars used to rehabilitate roads as Enugu-PH roads because they were neglected to completely collapse and then had to be re-done from the scratch.So we are stuck in rebuilding roads which were already built in the 1960s and 1970s without aggressively adding new ones or massively upgrading the roads with more lanes and flyovers to make commute easier.In comparison, the roads the Americans built in 1960 is still being used and maintained,while many of such roads have already been upgraded into expressways with flyovers to make connection with other roads easier.

Thus, I am glad that maintenance culture is top notch in Enugu. The road gutters, roadmarks and street signs,the street lights and traffic lights are constantly being maintained to serve their functions. True to God, Enugu Akwulogo!!!

We need to do something about planting aesthetic trees and flowers in our road medians or simply cover the median with concrete if we don't have time for flowers or we think flowers may not thrive on such roads. Leaving them unsightly with over grown bush does not speak well of the new functional world class city Enugu is fast becoming.

Maintenance requires continuity and political stability, something Nigeria has NEVER had, up until the year 1999.

Nigeria is more stable today than it has ever been, this increases the chance of the new administration (in 2015) coming in and continuing on from where the previous administration left off.

Many Nigerians have a knack for being myopic, because they choose to look at the country from one perspective, without considering the facts.

Such as, that the country was ruled by dictators for almost 40 years, these dictators were undereducated, none of these dictators continued on from where the previous administrations left off, none of these dictators were Nigerian in the true sense, as they were all ethnic bigots, and none of these dictators built any real lasting infrastructure in the country during their tenure.

That’s why Nigeria today is so far behind where it should be.

Lastly, why do African people have this myopic yet incredibly ignorant attitude to development? It took more than 200 years of consistent growth to get South Africa to where it is today? To develop a country, it requires years of sustained growth, it’s not something that can be done in 5 years, like so many ignorant Africans believe.

The Western World took centuries to get where it is today, Nigeria on the other hand, has only had sustained growth for 14 years, it’ll need at least another 30 years of consistent growth before it will be anywhere near the West. This is the reality, there’s no quick fix; developing a nation requires infrastructure development, implementation of policies, private sector investments, cultural enlightenment, and various other things.

This report is a load of rubbish, because the government doesn’t quarantine all second and third hand contacts with the index case. What they do is place them under surveillance, then tell them to contact them once they become symptomatic.

Individuals that are symptomatic are quarantined and treated, until their body either fights the virus off, or it gives up.

Ebola has continued to kill people in those respective nations because of ignorance. The average citizen in those countries has very little understanding of how the illness is spread.

Spreading fear and panic will have the opposite effect of what you’re trying to do, because as we all know, when people are highly stressed, their natural inclination is to take flight.

21 people DO NOT have Ebola in Enugu, 21 people have simply been put under surveillance for precautionary reasons because she came into contact with them. Do you understand how Ebola is spread? An individual MUST BE SICK, before they can spread it, such as vomiting, stomach pains, bleeding from the ears and eyes.

If she was healthy enough to travel to Enugu and back again, it’s very unlikely she infected anyone.

This is a sensationalist report as well, because they have NOT been quarantined. As I said before, it’s precautionary, since a healthy individual cannot spread the illness. The only time someone with Ebola becomes contagious is when they fall sick.

If she was well enough to travel to Enugu and back to Lagos again, it’s extremely unlikely that she infected anyone there with Ebola, since it can only be transferred when an individual becomes sick. That’s why, up until this day, the only confirmed cases are those who had direct contact with Mr Sawyer; WHILE HE WAS SICK.

With that said, the person most at risk, would have been her husband, if in the unlikelihood she did infect anyone.
