Even the mighty Oxford University has a fully-funded MSc. program in African studies + stipend. This is just one of many. Many smaller universities across the EU are begging citizens of developing countries to come and study.

Clearly, the op has invested a lot of time and money in this venture and he is already determined to travel. My only worry is that the height of winter is approaching and this is the worst time for experimentation. @op, can you go have a look-around and come back. Yes, illegal migrants survive, particularly those who can do something with their hands, but it is very very hard. Having to learn another language is even harder.

I know of a fellow who went to Greece, crossed into Italy and finally made it to the UK where he was able to learn plumbing and certification (with a 'borrowed' passport. Today, he is doing good. All these happened after serial setbacks and even a stint in jail.
My cousin and his wife hustled from Greece to Austria and now they have legal stay in Dublin, but this happened a long time ago. So, it happens
Maybe you consider what claremont said about the French Foreign Legion. That seems pretty dope.

But the best way to leave Nigeria with the best outcome is education. Do you have a degree? There are several universities in Europe (e.g Holland) and the UK that are willing to pay you to come and study some ridiculously vague post-graduate course like 'International Policy' or 'African Development'. Japan has a program like this if you are willing to study anything they give you. cheesy

You may meet a nice Japanese girl and birth lovely biracial children. They will pay for your ticket, tuition and even give you a living stipend. That way, you will have time to look around and consider what your next move should be.

You only live once. Live wisely.

Agriculture is a winner but it requires time (you or someone needs to check up on the investment), got my fingers burnt this year cos I couldn't keep visiting the farm, planning to try processing instead of producing in 2016(one a small scale though)

This entertainment that you're saying has k-leg if you ask me, it's too much of an art to be predicted.

Agriculture is a definite winner and, yes, processing is more lucrative but capital intensive. The market for properly processed cassava or palm oil is huge. That will probably be my focus in the long term.
The k-leg in entertainment is for the artistes trying to break in. From the business point, I don't think the risk is that great. It just requires time and concentration in any area you choose. Even the small record labels seem to be breaking even. Entertainers are always looking for people to package them. It is rarely about talent but presentation

Nobody controls anybody, but you can't work independently. If the nurse refuses to bring out the equipment, what are you going to do? Beat her up? Start looking for her senior nurse when the patient's minutes are wasting away? We have a bad system and even the brightest stars will underperform in a bad environment.

Since the HO prooved his incompetence by calling the MO first, the MO would have been on the phone instructing the the HO on steps to stabilize the patients.

1. The HO wasn't not incompetent by calling his senior. That is the first thing to do as a junior officer. You call the senior person once you have an emergency.

2. Nobody is going to sack the MO for instructing the HO to refer all those patients. It has happened severally with me. If you can't treat, you refer.

3. Let us even assume that the HO disobeys the senior and starts treating . . .and then one of the patients dies . . .That is now a case of hospital mortality. . .When the hospital ethics/disciplinary panel gets information that a house-officer was trying to play superhero, I assure you, they will not be merciful

I have worked as a HO in a govt hospital. Have you?

The worst that could happen to a disobedient house officer?

Option A - Nothing -if the senior colleague is not pissed.

Option B - You could be sacked for insubordination, reported to the MDCN, made to face a disciplinary panel who could strip you of your temporary license and render you unable to safely practice medicine

For how long will you pay? Accident victims come into government hospitals on weekly basis. For how long will you pay for food, drugs, surgery e.t.c What about other patients? They were over 10 victims dumped there. Will you also pay for them or are they unworthy of help?
Those patients needed referral to another center. Will you bring your car or pay for a taxi cab?

@op, don't let anybody make you feel guilty for heeding the instruction of your senior. I have been a house officer and I understand a bit of the dynamics of government practice. The fact that we deal with human life makes everything so sentimental so people will call you all sorts of names and ask you to lose your job. I have seen where the doctor is ready to work, but the nurses refuse to bring out the instruments because they are on strike. You can't disobey your senior. It is just like a military service system.

Besides, can you guarantee that you would have been able to save the woman's life? No law stops you from giving first-aid but can you continue to give the required care? You were not negligent in your duty.

It is a pity that we live in a country with a messed-up health system and you have to pay out of pocket for the most basic kind of healthcare. There is no social fund for accident victims in hospitals so anybody who is mad at you can go down to the nearest hospital and make a donation.

Many of the people criticizing you for not spending your money have never donated a single vial of normal saline (150 naira) or iv cannula (200 naira) to any government hospital. Just continue to do your best within your limits. Nigeria will be better soon

In this life, an excellent educational background can be of help if you don't have connections. I know a family friend who did undergrad in the UK. She already had two job offers from Nigerian banks before graduation - not contract staff o! Yet many 2(1) and first class are loitering.
The elite keep it in the family, that is why they inter-marry across tribe. The Delta governor's daughter just married to a Yoruba dude.
In the North that is so low on female education, a governor has two unmarried daughters who are qualified doctors. Yet, almajiri girls are sent into marriage once they start menstruating.

It is a class war.

The truth is that only a vibrant PDP can keep the APC on their toes and ensure they deliver on their promise of chance. For all of the shenanigans of Fayose and FFK, they represent what the opposition should do but in a refined version. In the UK, Labour Party keeps the Tories focused. same with the Democrats and the Republicans.

Criticism doesn't mean condemnation. An opposition party must critique everything the ruling party does? If they cough, why didn't they sneeze? If they dance to Wizkid, would dancing to Davido have been better for the people?
Buhari's budget has a lot of flaws that can be exposed and debated in a constructive fashion e.g. the bloated nature of the budget can be discussed. How are we going to borrow all that money? Are we condemning our children to a future of debt?

I guess Mr. Adeyanju has a point. We need an active opposition.

Honestly, I think the op's wife has an undiagnosed mental health condition and it looks like one of the subsets of schizophrenia. All her crazy attitude may require professional help to solve. Not every mentally ill person is eating dust on the street, some of them have jobs and homes and families. It is possible that past drug use has damaged her sanity

You already have a daughter with her, so you can't just pack up and leave. If it is clear to her family members that something is wrong with her, then you should consider get a psychiatric evaluation.
If she is still violent to you, then you shouldn't be in that environment for your own sanity and safety.

Of course, they will not win the case. But it is the symbolism that is important. Getting guys to carry IPOB flags into football matches was also good symbolism. A lawsuit is a good but weak first step. I hope they have good lawyers to drag the case on some merit.

What IPOB lacks is proper guidance on how to get the FG to listen to them. Clearly, Buhari will not listen to protests so they need to try some other stuff.

Maybe, next time Bubu visits any country, they can have our embassy there pelted with over-ripe tomatoes. That would be a good symbol. grin

You can get a lawyer to write to the Police Complaint Response Unit with back-up data of all the information you have. Also copy the Police Station. Don't do this by yourself. Get a lawyer.
Police in Lagos have become extortionists, dealing with motorists, okada riders and keke drivers.
Personally, i have come to loathe the police.Yes, there are decent ones, I know. But I can't even stop to give a policeman a ride because of the bad stories I heard. I can't verify this but I hear that you should never agree to go to the station in cases like this. It is akin to going into the Lion's den. Make somebody can give us tips how to escape these annoying people
