I'm not happy that Funke Akindele was robbed cry cry Funke remains my favourite Nigerian actress and her story from grass to grace inspires me. I am on a sabbatical from Nairaland but I had to drop in when I noticed this thread about Funke Akindele. I really admire her. I hope she gets over the incident and move on with her life. Cheers.

I wonder how some people were chosen as moderators on Nairaland cry cry Anyway, I'm not saying Ibinabo was innocent. Someone has even stated on the thread that Ibinabo has apologised to Dr Giwa's mother. He who has not done anything wrong should cast the first stone lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed For SpikedCylinder to descend so low to say that I want to lick Ibinabo's anus for favours shows her horrible sense of reasoning. It is such a shame that Nairaland has her type as a moderator. Well, I'm out of this thread. Cheers.
CelebritiesRe: Ibinabo Is Born Again by Redman44(m): 7:02am On Sep 27, 2010
@Spikedcylinder,

You are very ignorant. Gumtree has a forum and it is much more than a buying and selling and accommodation site. I don't have anything to say again. I just want you to know that there are many Nairaland members that know a lot more than you moderators. Be careful when you attack people on this site because you don't know who they really are due to the fact that they have hidden identities. We just believe in Seun Osewa and that is why we are blogging on his platform. Just heed my advice and change your approach to moderating. It is clear you have issues with some regular members of Nairaland. I am not advocating for Ibinabo because I have her in mind for some projects. Cheers.

@Oyb,

Good reasoning, mate. Luv ya!!!
CelebritiesRe: Ibinabo Is Born Again by Redman44(m): 10:25pm On Sep 26, 2010
@spikedcylinder,

Why don't you answer the salient points made in my post? You tend to underline a sentence and use it to attack someone who has has dared to stand up to your ignorance of how things really are. I did not say Ibinabo should be spared jail. Go back and read my posts carefully. Other people have been stating their own opinions on the issue without attacking the personality of other posters. I need to stop arguing with you. It is not worth it with someone of your character and uncouth way of addressing issues. If you can visit gumtree.com'S FORUMS, you will be able to learn a thing or two about moderating and managing thread discussions. You need to get some education, please.

@tunnytox

Tony Tonero was knocked down by a cab driver at Dopemu in Lagos some months ago. What was done to the driver? How about the trailer driver that hit Muyideen Aromire [Alade ] on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway? These men were popular entertainers in Nigeria and they were killed by commoners who were too poor to even pay any fine or represent themselves in court. Nigerian Judges are not stupid or corrupt as we think, tox. My uncle is a Judge in the Nigerian Legal System and I know what he goes through sometimes in deciding cases. The drivers that killed Alade [ Yoruba Actor and Film Producer ] and Tony Tonero [ Singer/artiste ] were either jailed for short periods or set free after paying fines or after some heavy pleading and out of court settlements with the family of their victims. Check the Nigerian Law Reports and you'll get my drift. Cheers.
CelebritiesRe: Ibinabo Is Born Again by Redman44(m): 7:19pm On Sep 26, 2010
We are all going to die one way or the other anyway. It is just painful that Dr Suraj Giwa had to go that way. I'm not defending Ibinabo in anyway though. She committed a grievous offence and deserves to be punished. However, Nigeria is not Saudi Arabia where justice is instantly meted out. The rule of law still obtains in Nigeria. Ibinabo was charged with manslaughter not murder. If she had been charged with murder, she would be in a maximum prison by now. She has been to court and she has managed to escape jail so far. She was ordered to pay a fine and she has complied with that directive. When it looked as if she would be set free, the Lagos State Government stepped up the battle to get her locked up in Kirikiri Maximum Prison. Does this not tell us something? And what has the Nigerian Guild of Actors done to help Ibinabo Fiberesima out of this problem? The NGA could have organised a face to face meeting between Ibinabo and Dr Giwa's family with Ibinabo apologising for all that has happened. That is how true healing of wounds start. And for all those who are saying Ibinabo has not shown any remorse, were you at the court? Did you see the hostile reception Dr Giwa's family gave her? People should learn to look at issues from all sides. Cheers.
CelebritiesRe: Ibinabo Is Born Again by Redman44(m): 4:23pm On Sep 26, 2010
@Spikedcylinder,

I'm not spewing rubbish. If it was a normal Nigerian citizen that killed Dr Giwa, the accused would have been let off after paying a heavy fine [ Many Nigerians do not even have enough disposable income so to speak ] or jailed immediately. There have been many cases like Ibinabo's due to driving under the influence of alchohol but these cases have not dragged on in court for so long. People get killed weekly in Nigeria by careless drivers and it is either the careless drivers are made to pay a big fine after so much passionate begging and all that sad sad or they are jailed and later released. Ibinabo Fiberesima's case is different because she is a well known face. Stop behaving as if you don't know how things play out in Nigeria. Even after paying a huge fine and being spared jail, the Lagos State Government is still trying to hang her cry cry What about the person that hit and killed Tony Tonero [ Paul IK Dairo's bandmate and freind ]? What was done to him?

And you say I've got brain disease? Who knows you? You're just a local champion on Nairaland lipsrsealed lipsrsealed How many respected Nigerians have you dined and wined with? It is people like you that are turning Seun's website into a den of egomaniacs. Just go and sit down if you have nothing meaningful to contribute to this thread. Cheers.
CelebritiesRe: Ibinabo Is Born Again by Redman44(m): 1:12pm On Sep 26, 2010
@Nairalanders,

Ibinabo made a mistake and she has been through hell in recent years due to the legal battles she has had to fight. Yeah, she killed Dr Suraj Giwa accidentally. Yeah, she was under the influence of alcohol and all that. I bet if Dr Giwa's killer was not a celebrity, the case would have been buried a long time ago. It is just that Fiberesima is a celebrity and well known face and that is why the case has dragged on for so long. We know of Government officials that have hit people on the road and have gotten away with it. I believe Ibinabo has learnt her lessons and she will be a better woman in future. She has a lot to offer the Nigerian Entertainment Industry and I can't wait to meet her for some projects I have in Mind. Cheers.
EducationRe: Reinvent Fraternities In Nigerian Universities? by Redman44(m): 2:06pm On Sep 23, 2010
I believe the Fraternities in Nigerian Universities can be reinvented for the good of the society. It will be a difficult task but it can be achieved. I know fraternities in the US and Nigeria are different due to economic factors, but Rome was not built in a day. In North American schools, Fraternities are open organizations that have well known and intelligent members. The Fraternities over there also have drinking clubs and guest rooms on the campuses in America. Some are even sponsored by Blue Chip companies etc. In Nigeria, there is no strong will on the part of the Federal Government to reform the cult groups and turn them to social and academic fraternities. In Nigeria, most things have been tied to religion and people do not see the value of being members of social organizations that have noble intentions. With groups like the Sigma Organisation, Rotary Club and the Democratic Socialist Movement [ DSM ] still surviving on our campuses, deadly campus cults can be reformed in Nigeria. Cheers.
PoliticsRe: Buhari Visits Adeboye To Seek For Electoral Support by Redman44(m): 1:50pm On Sep 23, 2010
I don't know what Pastor Enoch Adeboye tells these politicians and schemers when they visit him. I thought fundamentalist Muslims like Buhari do not respect christians cry cry Seeking electoral support from Pastor Adeboye does not guarantee Buhari victory at the 2011 elections. Nigeria is a very funny country. We keep seeing politicians who have achieved nothing concrete during their past spells in government consulting with our religious leaders when elections are close by. Sometimes, I wonder if the leaders we produce in Nigeria are a reflection of our mental abilities as a people. How many of the politicians that are gunning to occupy Aso Rock and State Government Houses have antecedents and the required experience to lead? I was reading the profile of Britain's Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, the other day and I was impressed with his experience and achievements as a leader of the Liberal Democrat Party. Our politicians suck big time lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed Bunch of failures. Shior!!

The greatest thing that has happened to me so far is being told my dad to start looking after myself after I completed my youth service.  As soon as I got a job paying me 15,000 Naira [ I was not really paid by my employer until I left the shores of Nigeria ], my dad started asking me if I was making plans to secure my own accomodation cool cool cool. Then I found my way out of Nigeria to Western Europe. Family turned their backs on me after a while. I'm stronger now and my future is bright doing things on my own. May Ellen Ezekiel [ MEE ] is one of the greatest women in Nigerian history. She was Richard Mofe Damijo's ex-wife and she died in 1996. Ezekiel was the publisher of the highly respected Classique Magazine [ No celebrity Magazine has matched the quality of Classique Magazine ] and she was also a solid novelist. She also had her TV show and was very popular and pretty. She remains the most accomplished Female Journalist and Publisher in Nigeria. Read up on her. Cheers.

PoliticsRe: Gay Nigerian Asylum Seeker Faces Deportation by Redman44(m): 2:29pm On Sep 18, 2010
Mr Hope Nwachukwu should thank his stars that he is living in the UK though he is in detention. Some other countries would have removed him immediately without regards for the Rule of Law.  I have no reason to doubt Nwachukwu's claim that he is gay. Believe me, I've come across Homosexuals in Nigeria while I was a secondary school student. My school was for boys only and some of my seniors were gay. I know a number of them that did all kinds of things with their school sons shocked shocked. Some of my mates while I was in JSS 1 were feminine in nature [ One of them was really girlish and handsome that he was harassed by other boys ]  and I saw them being fondled by some seniors. One senior tried it with me but I was not really moved or interested.  I know a lot of the homosexuals back in my secondary school days would have grown out of it by now and are probably married cool cool. The same scenario obtains in Girls only schools in Nigeria. What I'm trying to say is that there are homosexuals and lesbians in Nigeria and this Asylum Seeker should be given a chance to prove himself. I hope he wins the case and is allowed to stay in Britain.  Though I don't like gays, I believe they have a right to life. Cheers.

RomanceRe: How To Impress On First Date by Redman44(m): 2:12pm On Sep 17, 2010
I am not an authority on Dating and romantic matters smiley smiley  However, I agree that being financially stable and having a good job helps a lot when you're trying to impress women these days. The poster gave a lot of tips when you're out on a date with a woman for the first time. The tips are okay and I've learnt a thing or two from the posts.  However, we don't have a specific set of rules that we must follow on a first date or in relationships generally. Women look for different things in a man and some relationships kick off no matter how successful the man was in impressing the lady on the first date.  Dating differs in different countries due to economic, cultural and and social differences. In Nigeria, many women will date you if you look comfortable to an extent. Due to the high level of poverty in Nigeria, many women are attracted to men that can take care of them. You don't even have to take them on a date. Just strike up a conversation with the average Nigerian lady and you can both take it from there. You don't have to follow dating rules or techniques to woo a woman in Nigeria shocked shocked shocked

In the Western world, it is a different ball game all together.  I've come across women in Britain who are not interested in whether you have a deep wallet or nice ride. The more you're trying to impress them, the more they get pissed off.  These set of ladies are just looking for love. They just want a man they can call a friend and move on to better things with. Some ladies are just out to have intimacy. If you can satisfy them in bed consistently, they will stay with you. Dating in Europe and America however entails the etiquettes the poster mentioned- Being Nice, Not bragging, Being well dressed, having your own place,  having a job [ not necessarily being a banker and all that ] and being honest.  Women in the Western world have different reasons for dating. Some of them are after rich men and you have to be loaded to date them. Others are weird and are sex maniacs. I'm not much into African women abroad for reasons personal to me.  I'll leave that area for those who know better.  My advice is this: JUST BE SINCERE TO ANY WOMAN YOU WANT TO DATE OR MARRY. Cheers.

PoliticsRe: Show Your Nigeria To The World By Cnn Ireport by Redman44(m): 1:14am On Sep 16, 2010
Hmn, this na serious matter o shocked shocked shocked   CNN has finally decided to create citizen journalists out of Nigerians. It will be easy for some people to take pictures of some renovated areas of Lagos and Benin City and send to the CNN in order to show that things are working in Nigeria.  Yeah, some Governors are trying to improve the living standards of their people and they've constructed new roads and refurbished new schools. The truth is that their efforts are tiny drops into a ocean of hopelessness and mismanagement.  We have very short-sighted leaders in Nigeria. They have refused to package and sell the country as a place to invest and settle in despite her numerous problems. South Africa has a high level of crime and many black townships are just a little better than Ibadan and Akure in infrastructural terms. Yet investors are sinking vaults of hard currency into South Africa's economy. I'm not saying there are no investors in Nigeria, but we should have had more of them coming in if the Federal Government knows out to woo investors by putting basic amenities in place.

I feel pictures and videos of Nigerian Entrepreneurs who are doing well despite the harsh business environment they operate in should be sent to CNN. We need to post videos of the Dundun and Akara seller who has sent 7 children to school through the proceeds of her roadside business. Stories like these will touch the world. Cheers.

I was shocked when I read the story of the racist behaviour of Locomotiv Moscow fans towards Osaze Odemwingie. The fact that he has a Ukrainian mother did not even help matters. I hope FIFA and UEFA took the matter up seriously. Osaze has always been a dedicated player for club and country. He is going to do well in the English Premiership as he has the pace and clinical finishing that top strikers are made of. I just hope he keeps his focus and is not easily distracted by the organised social life in England. He should learn from the likes of Didier Drogba and Michael Essien who respect their wives and are not extreme clubbers. I wish you the best, Osaze cool cool cool

Everyone and Every Nation has a day of redemption. Yeah, Nigerians are seen as being dishonest and fraudulent, but we should start thinking of reinventing ourselves. We need to start fielding very young players in FIFA cadet tournaments so that we can do well at the Senior Female competitions. Many of our current U-17 and U-19 players will soon run out of steam because of their real ages. Female football should be encouraged in our secondary schools right from JSS1. Then we can start picking gifted players for our female youth teams from the big pool of female soccer players in our schools. Cheers.

CareerRe: What Is The Salary For Social Workers In Nigeria. Please Advice by Redman44(m): 12:40pm On Sep 15, 2010
I'm really impressed with this thread. The problem with Nigeria and Nigerians is that we do not take the time to look for information before we comment on issues. I've always known that there are social workers in Nigeria since age 6. It is just that the government has not promoted the idea of asking people to be social workers. Unlike Nigeria, Social Workers and Social Care professionals are highly cherished in the western world. I don't know of any Nigerian University that offers Social Work as a degree. However, I know a proper research through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board [JAMB] might reveal one or two Higher Institutions offering the course under a different name.  A lot of NGO's in Nigeria failed because the people behind them did not really know what they had got themselves into and were not equipped with the patience and skills that sustains such projects. I hope more publicity will be given to Social Care work in Nigeria and that a bill will be passed by our senators to make Social Work a noble profession in the country.

@Aisha2, keep up the good work. I admire people who follow their dreams with a passion. Cheers.

PoliticsRe: Olubadan Rejects Akala’s Car Gift by Redman44(m): 1:25pm On Sep 14, 2010
Alao Akala is really funny. It should be clear to him that his second term as Governor of Oyo State is not guaranteed. There is too much bitterness among politicians in the state. Oyo State has not had a progressive Governor for a long time. Even Lam Adesina and Rasheed Ladoja have not done much to really raise the living standards of people in the state. Alao Akala should not be blamed for the infrastructural rot in Oyo State.  Ibadan's decadence as a great city in Nigeria and Africa started a long time ago. Akala became the Governor of the state through the back door and a flawed process. He should have concentrated on reinventing himself when he got into office by taking governance seriously. We've seen cases where politicians came into office through rigging but turned out to be the hero of the people they govern.  Oyo State needs a neutral, young and dynamic Governor to take the state to greater heights. It is really a shame that Oyo State is stuck in a state of underdevelopment with all the potentials around it.

I can't wait to see Oyo State being led by a dynamic and innovative leader. The state needs redemption as quick as possible from the corrupt cartels running it.  The Labour Party and Action Congress of Nigeria need to win back Oyo State from the PDP. Cheers.

FamilyRe: Men How Do You Feel When You Hear "it's A Girl"? by Redman44(m): 12:33am On Sep 14, 2010
As much as I don't want to be seen as someone that does not like girls as children, It is very clear that Africans, Asians and Arabs desire to have male children as their offspring. I've got an Arab guy as a friend and he dotes so much on his son whom he had with a White British lady. They are divorced now and this Algerian guy is presently married to a woman from his country. They have a daughter but my friend is fond of his son who looks just like him. He takes him out and proudly shows him off to his friends at events. His Algerian wife keeps complaining that my friend does not care for her and his daughter as much as he dotes on his only son from another woman smiley smiley smiley

One of my uncles had 4 girls as children and he kept looking for a son. When his wife could not give him a male child, he went out to look for a young girl in order to get what he desired. The girl he married was younger than his first daughter. Anyway, the girl also delivered a baby girl for my uncle. I've not seen my uncle for some time now and I feel he is still looking for a Son.  I don't mind having daughters but I must have a son I will be proud of cool cool cool.  Cheers.

The students that demonstrated at the IBB campaign in Abeokuta should have come early enough. They should get right the next time. I'm expecting the National Association of Nigerian Students [ N.A.N.S ] to issue a press release distancing itself as an ally of the evil genius towards the 2011 elections. There is no currency that cannot be forged these days. With the coming of sophisticated computers, printers and colour separation machines, it is only a matter of time before any document is forged. The good thing is that with the extra features being put on official documents and bank notes all over the world, it is actually easy to detect forged, fake or counterfeit documents. As long as there is a demand for official documents and money for global applications and transactions, there will be a black market of forgers. It is just a fact of life. Cheers.

PoliticsRe: Facebook Generation Gears Up To Monitor Nigeria Poll by Redman44(m): 10:56pm On Sep 08, 2010
This seems to be a very good antidote to the widespread rigging and thuggish behaviour that we witness during elections in Nigeria. I believe the game is up for selfish politicians who will do anything to get to power. I have always believed the future of Nigeria lies with the youths. If we channel all the anger we vent on Nairaland, Facebook and Bebo into ensuring that credible polls are held in the country next year, we will achieve something together. Change will come to Nigeria if we believe in ourselves that we can be the change we want to see. I have noticed that a lot of socio-economic organisations in Nigeria are interested in the 2011 elections. The youths are also planning and testing out a lot of strategies to stop corrupt rulers from holding on to power in the country. Videos of electoral rigging and violence [ Snatching of ballot boxes, beating up agents of rival parties, harassing voters etc ] can be uploaded on Facebook immediately with international news organizations picking them up for their news stories.

We've already seen the Judiciary restoring stolen mandates to their rightful owners [ Oshiomhole in Edo State and Mimiko in Ondo State ] and I believe things will get better if the youths stand up against corrupt leaders at all levels. For once, let all the bad boys on our campuses take the 2011 elections seriously. If the Gangs on our campuses stand up to the thugs of the politicians [ Both sides will be evenly matched. Political thugs will be afraid to cause trouble when they see young men who can stand up to them ], ballot boxes will not be snatched cheesy cheesy. I just believe we are not a wasted generation. God bless Nigeria.
