thatigboman:Roads should not be the priority now. Rail links to the suburbs and satellite towns should be the priority. It will decongest the city center by enabling citizens live further away. And it will remove a lot of vehicles from the roads increasing their lifespan. More and more roads only leads to more and more congestion. |
A rapid transit line to Gwagwalada due South, a line to Kubwa+ due North, a line to Karu+ due East and Abuja will be decongested and sanitized in a go. Such projects are worth a million times more than all the roads and bridges they have been trying to do in the city centre for years now. |
Once more I am rather disappointed that Labour like other key political parties are not in the duty of political opposition and little to no voice is lent to the way Nigeria is governed presently. I expected somethig different from the way the PDP mismanaged it's mandate throughout the Buhari regime in failing to provide an alternative position on all things pertaining to governance. And this failure to have brakes and steering which is what political opposition is has resulted in where we find ourselves today, in the bush. And from all indications this is what is going to present in this regime for the next 4 years. The Tinubu/APC government will be left without control and guess what an abundance of power alone will result in. Democracy in Nigeria appears to be power for power sake, not the function of nationhood or development. Just disappointing. |
Nothing is confirmed so far as to what happened or who is behind this or who the casualties are. |
Just watching CNN. |
tungamaje:It is children that are played around and given false promises of treats. Real citizens I sane societies work out their salvation from challenging situations. For the role of government cannot exceed that of an organiser of agreements within society. And a referee's role in the outcome of any game cannot be the same in terms of risk, skill or effort as the players who intend to win trophies. If Nigerians want to get out of poverty they better start getting creative, informed, resilient and hardworking. If they intend to wait on government then it simply will not happen. |
greatiyk4u:And how do you arrive at these figures because the little engineering I know will factor cost, function and environment to determine lifespan. So, infrastructure has no fixed lifespan just like the cars, trucks, boats, aircraft, people, animals, and substances that use them. |
Kaiser20:Just leave them to wallow in their misery. There is nothing to seperate a man or woman whose mind is chained to the vice of feudalism. There is nothing they are not prepared to endure. Even when their prison doors are opened they will still retreat into the darkness. Just to satisfy their sentiment. That is why I started this topic with the fact that there is nothing to say. The little I have offered contrary to that has been met with derision by those who think they are in heaven. Once again whom am I to force any contrary opinion. |
gbolswag:Then that is confirmed slavery. They should then 'pray'. Imagine what a bonafide citizen is saying about a government he elected. 'What if they did not get anything....' SMH |
TheGift:For the duration of the 20 percent plus inflation per annum..... many, many years to go. |
gbolswag:Language of desperation, of slavery, not of a people in charge of their country. Feudal talk. Whereas those in charge only need 'prayers' to receive 2 million. |
enemyofprogress:Oga, they saw all that but insisted this is what they want. Can a servant be given a menu.? Does your help decide what he/she wants to eat.? |
Risingblue008:Exactly. No talk here. |
No talk here. For some this is the definition of good governance. And their expectations have been met. |
adenigga:Just as we predicted..But on the effects in the manufacturing sector an increasing and diverse taxation regime is a double edged sword because many will go under as a result especially those that cannot successfully pass on costs to customers/consumers. So the government has to adopt different tax rates (tailor made) for different sizes of manufacturers in different manufacturing sectors. On the effects of increased interest rates which is an inevitable tool to fighting inflation, what government should do is to investigate what these lendings goes towards and help manufacturers de-monetize these particularly if these go towards onshore expenditure. For example, if company a is taking a facility to procure raw materials within Nigeria the government can step in to issue bonds on its behalf. It is time government does the hard work of economic integration around a planned, deliberate framework |
crossfm:This is often the mistake. People believing that contrary expressions are inimical to progress, that opposition automatically means chaos, that even checks and balances in governance is equal to wrestling, and the kind of war that must be avoided at all costs. Meanwhile they live on a planet where the opposing magnetic forces protect the atmosphere from subatomic particle destruction. They build automobiles with big engines commanded by throttles but with sophisticated brakes as well to guarantee the 'peace' of returning home safely. And they take comfort in the fact that the higher power they worship is prepared to 'war' against the dark forces of Satan on their behalf to bring peace and order in their lives. Yet ironically they feel that it is a sin, a grave error to argue, debate, oppose or be opposed in any way, shape or form in the challenging path to building a viable and prosperous society. How can this be possible. How? How can you unite a society without hearing the other side, feeling their pulse, allowing them to vent their emotions and lending a hand of understanding to their views. How? Nigerians are just not ready to develop. That is just my submission. We are just not knowledgeable enough to craft this nation. |
Stop banning people from civil expression. Bottled up stuff shaken vigorously is dangerous. Never a good idea. Government should learn to do the hard work of organising the game of democracy with the utmost regard for all the freedoms the Constitution guarantees. That is the only way democracy can be made to work for the good of the country and the prosperity of the citizens of Nigeria. When are we going to grow into democracy as a nation. When are our institutions going to grow into their roles of custodians of the Constitution. When will the security agencies learn the hard work of protecting the nation while permitting their freedoms. Ban this, ban that is just a knee jerk, lazy reaction to the issues of governance. Kicking the can down the road is not a strategy, but a stunting of the growth of the nation. |
The question is not the arithmetic of distribution (as Mr. Osibanjo used to say that the problem of Nigeria was/is the distribution of resources). Rather the problem of Nigeria is structural. As to how democracy works. How the nation/Nigeria is governed. Who decides what is the question for today. I asked the other day. * Who decided that a 'palliative' was what Nigerians needed at this time. * Who decided the palliative in the sum of 500 billion. * Who decided what portion of it to be monetised. * Who decided bags of maize and rice was the best course of action.... And on and on. Because I have not seen or heard anywhere where these things were considered, debated or where the people agreed to what is happening. Where? Is this how democracy works anywhere it works well in the world? How can things be operated this way and be transparent and without rancour and suspicion. Pls Nigerians. Know this. As long as you are not in charge of your governance, nothing is bound to work the way you think or expect, or for your good ultimately. As long as the citizen is viewed as a child, the access to his inheritance remains suspended until he comes of age. That is, grows in knowledge and will and is prepared to act responsibly to direct HIS OWN AFFAIRS. The office of the citizen is a critical one in the success of any democracy. Nigeria's remains a kindergarten. |
I am sure that Mr. Falana will be thoroughly embarrassed that just a few decades after fighting the military junta for the soul of the nation the self acclaimed pro democracy activists now democratically elected leaders are no better in the sense of the rule of law. Mr. Gani of blessed memory will be turning in his grave, away from the stalled civil progress of Nigeria to rather look on to South Africa where a Mandela did not end up settung up labour camps or promoting killer squads against the whites. Democracy in it's purest form is still a mirage in Nigeria. There remains a long, long way to go. |
Just here to.watch the match, the Haalands' versus the Van Dyke's.... |
Karemarealty288:The fact that he has to sing about his non partisanship shows there is a problem. For actions speak louder than pointless defences. Public servants are yet to understand their proper roles in the sustenance of a virile democracy. That is why they will always be victims of the positions they take and the actions they undertake on behalf of those who are in office for no more than a season. The Nigerian at every opportunity repeatedly shows he is not a man of vision. Tomorrow this same man will return to the press to wail that Nigeria doesn't work when he is at the butt end of administrative malaise. |
Every AGF serving in any government under this structure will end in ignomy. That is as sure as the sun rising everyday. And if the 'Chief Lawyer to the Government' in more advanced and tested democracies often struggle with the other legs of government and the Constitution, one just imagines how an AGF can keep his conscience and act with fidelity in the present structure of a Nigeria that by and large does not lend itself to the rule of law. It is an appointment no moral man will take. Shame certainly awaits in the end and worse if any resistance is put up 'to the fingers that feed...' |
In other climes when the Reserve Bank coughs the economy goes down in a pandemic. Here their talk is just like chloroquine to modern day malaria. Ineffective due to abuse. And it will take decades of ethical behaviour for it to take control of the economy, decades of trust. Today it is involved in sharing bags of rice in the so called palliative program. So shameful. Tomorrow it may open a franchise of Taco Bell. The love of money has destroyed Nigeria completely. |
Good start Caicedo.. Love you Boy......
Hahahaha..... 'Caciedo's been in the counting house, counting all his money.... The Blues' been in the parlour, dreaming of the trophy.... Their fans have been left out hanging, hanging out to dry... And then came Westham and pecked off their hopes.... By the way. The jury remains out on Poch. If he misses it here then his career is shot. |
Palliatives are what the people asked for not a reduction of inflation, not the creation of jobs, not a means to production, so whom am I to comment. If you ask for a lion you get a lion, if you ask for a goat, you get a goat. You can't expect your lion to eat grass or your goat to roar. Nigerians do not understand what makes for a better life so they cannot make the necessary demands. It is a vicious cycle. |
If Poch doesn't succeed with this club... And in the short term for that matter, his stock will drop significantly. The jury is out on his competence. His career seems to be tailing the path of a certain Brendan Rogers as to the question? Is he a great coach or not. |
This is what we constantly say. The CBN through its unethical and corrupt practices over time has eroded it's trust amongst Nigerians and increasingly made itself a minority player in the economy. The stark proof of this is the CBN's inability to reign in inflation like it's counterparts around the world are doing presently and a further proof was it's failure to change the face of the currency in the run up to the last elections. When institutions of governance pander to the will of individuals and by so doing put the interests of the generality at bay there are serious negative implications and when it involves banking that lives and dies on trust then the situation is dire. A similar thing is happening with the Judiciary, an institution that is struggling to keep its head above the waters of law and order simply because it's administration is often dodgy in pandering to strong political and economic interests and not always operating above board. So just as you have self help, vigilantism, anarchy due to a weak judiciary, so you have self help in the foreign exchange market aka black market due to a weak and corrupt Reserve Bank. |
NwaNimo1:Hahahaha.... dis guy eh. |
jacobs2015:Kai see ignorance. Abeg study things before being overwhelmed with inaccurate ideas. |
Meanwhile somewhere else Osimen just banged in two for Napoli. Guess United didn't get the memo. |
The summary of the game is the midfield. Spurs' was mobile, purposeful and offered good forward and reverse gears. For United, once again the pairing of Casemiro and Mount will be the undoing of United this season. There is no chemistry whatsoever between them. The transition between defence and attack is like an engine that has not been serviced for years. |
United. Comprehensibly outplayed today. Is Spurs the real deal? |
